GOOD - Very sensitive, capable of very good sound - Headphone jack - Compatible with Wave Link software - Can use 1/4", 3/8", and 5/8" threaded mounts - Included stand extension helps with better mic placement BAD - Included stand isn't very stable - Only physical control is mute - Not compatible with most ( any? ) shock mounts - Still picks up noise from behind, despite cardioid pattern TLDR This is one of the better mic options for under $100. It has great sound and is compatible with the Wave Link software, so you can use about any kind of plug-in or filter you want. Be warned that it's very sensitive and still picks up quite a bit from behind, despite the cardioid pattern. You'll need to spend a few hours tuning it right for your voice and room, but once done, it will give very good results. DETAILS The Wave Neo is a pretty small mic. It doesn't take up much room on your desk and it's very light for mounting on any kind of arm. Speaking of mounts, the single-sided arm uses standard 5/8" threads and it comes with an adapter insert for both 1/4" and 3.8" threads. About the only place you'll have trouble using it is with a shock mount. The oval cross-section doesn't work well with most generic shock mounts, nor does the front mute button, which would be covered by the mount. If you're not using the Neo with a mount arm, you can use the included base, and extension, to just keep it on your desk. However, the stand, and especially the extension, is pretty bad. While the extension does an ok job of elevating the mic closer to your mouth to improve voice capture quality, it attaches to the mount arm with a rather loose friction fit. So it can wobble around a little and pulls apart very easily when moving it around. The white paint on my stand even chipped off a little the very first time I put the thing together. I suppose Elgato put most of the manufacturing costs into the mic, rather than the stand they knew many people wouldn't use, so I guess that's somewhat understandable. The mic itself is quite sensitive, so even though it's plug-n-play, it's not plug-n-go. Without taking time to properly set input gain and noise gates, this thing will pick up almost everything in your house ( again, using it on the included stand isn't a good idea if you plan to touch your desk at all ). Though it says it has a cardioid pickup pattern, it seemed to perform more like a super cardioid in my limited testing as it still picks up clear audio from behind. Pick-up from the sides and back were about 12 dB less than the front for me. As an Elgato mic, it's fully compatible with their Wave Link mixing software and filters, so you can easily tune this to your liking. The included headphone jack on the back is nice. The included USB cable has a molded shoe over the connection end, which matches the body shape of the mic, but also serves as a reinforcement around the connection to prevent it getting broken if you over rotate the mic on the mount against the cable. And though the USB port on the mic is recessed, you can still use most other generic USB cables to connect it. For under $100, you might be hard pressed to find a better USB mic. The main complaints are the janky included stand and difficulty in using a shock mount, but those aren't huge problems.

I've been using this microphone in VOIP voice chats, primarily Discord, and the audio quality has been great. Sound goes through crisp and clear. I have not had any problem with it picking up my voice seated comfortably in my chair. It's sleek and looks nice. The Wave Link application is easy to use and works wonders for the microphone quality. The setup for the Wave Neo is very easy and, while the stand isn't very adjustable, it seems sturdy. The included USB cable is long enough for my medium sized desk and attaches to the microphone nice and snug, so there's no worries about it coming out during use thanks to the custom connector that seats with the Wave Neo's USB-C port. The touch activation for the mute button is responsive and easy to hit, and the little change of color on the button's LED is a nice visual indicator to show whether I'm muted or not. Overall, I think the Elgato Wave Neo is very good for its price range, and a MASSIVE step up from any built-in headset microphone, so it's a great first step into professional quality microphones.

As a content creator ive had my fair share of experience with microphones over the years and experience using dynamic variants vs condenser, from various polar patterns to trying to maximize quality voicing over my YouTube videos. I can say without a doubt that this hits the sweet spot directly where you want it to be for value and extremely good sound quality. Know that with a condenser mic like this you dont need a lot of “gain” to pick you up well so if your one of those new to having an external mic from say your gaming headset just be aware that this maxed out on gain will be able to hear your neighbor through the wall banging pots and pans lol. That said this is perfect for someone sitting at a desk and not needing to have the mic in the shot with you or “eating it” per se to still get really good audio unlike youll find with dynamic mics. (Though the closer you are the more “radio style” full sound you get just realize its not needed) That said this comes with a base, riser (optional), the mic which has an included pop filter that is actually functional, a just under 5ft usb C to A cable for connection and works with almost everything. Ive personally tried it on my PC, Mac, iPad, iPhone (on the apple devices your stock camera app will use this mic for audio if you plug it in before opening the camera app), PS4, and PS5 and it was the exact same plug and play no problem perfection on all of them. (Note the cable included is USB A at the connection end so you can use an adapter or different cable all together if you need C to C). If your using this on PC or Mac there is a software thats optional called Wave Link that allows you to fine tune adjustments outside of just gain and even have some effects if you choose, but again its totally optional. You have the option to mount this mic to any boom arm or stand if you prefer not to use the one that comes with as its compatible with any 5/8 3/8 or 1/4 mounting. It has a headphone jack on the back side for hearing your system audio for those that like to use headphones or ear buds wired in making it more convenient to not have to plug them in far away. Not this does not have a side tone function and cannot monitor your voice this way unless it’s built in to your system itself. There is also a really nice physical mute button on the front that shows your current status. White means your mic is on and live, red is of course muted leaving no question there which is always nice. I think if your in the market for a good sounding mic, just starting out or even doing professional work than this is a great option as its extremely versatile in everything you can do and fairly easy to get professional results while not needing some insane setup. The fact that it’s in the budget price range is really just a huge bonus to something already very good. Id get this over anything else in this price range easily.

Elgato is the industry leader when it comes to streaming products and their microphone are known as some of the best in the industry. I also have used their streaming equipment and liked my initial investment so much that I bought a superior 4K streamer device. This was a device that I wanted to get to facilitate a more casual conversation with people online, as opposed to my official streaming mic, which is mounted on a flexible arm that you have no doubt seen if you have ever been on Twitch before. This uses a simple, white, slightly glossy, but mostly matte, type finish which looks amazing, yet simple, almost like an Apple product. To setup the microphone is quite simple and in just a few minutes you will be ready to go. Props to Elgato for making the bottom mount tool free by using a small coin type screw with a recessive "ear" that you can flip out to use to screw it in, then flip back into the unit when you are done. Anything that saves time going to the utility drawer and finding a screwdriver is alright by me. Once you get it together it's very easy to get it running. There is no special software or installs with this microphone, unlike more expensive, more complex microphones, which can sometimes take a good bit of time to get going in Windows. This one is the true plug and play experience. You simply plug it into a USB port and then in Windows make it your microphone and that's it, you are done. Using it is a bit different than my boom arm microphone. You really do need to keep it fairly close to your mouth, nothing too extreme but you cannot have it 3 feet away or such, like much more expensive mics, and expect it to pick you up. You also should speak into the top of the microphone, not the side, like I was doing like a dummy at first. By speaking into the top you are actually speaking into the microphone, instead of just half of it by speaking into the side. Once I realized this then the people that I was speaking to were able to hear me very clearly they said. I will still use my boom-mic Blue Yeti as my primary microphone, but this microphone is also going to be in use when I feel I want to talk to people in a more direct, personal type of conversation. This microphone is absolutely perfect for that. A stylish look, simplicity in motion and a great price makes this microphone a fantastic value and I would certainly recommend it for anyone looking for a different way to communicate online.

the good: - build quality - Design and build quality feel good, though not quite great, which is understanable at this price point. The base and stand are metal and the mic housing itself is plastic, but does blend nicely with the metallic components. I wouldn't say it looks premium, but it doesn't look cheap either. - ease of use - Super easy to set up and use. I literally just plugged the usb into my Mac and it was immediately recognized and usable. No further setup required. - mic quality - I use mine mainly as a daily driver for Zoom and Teams meetings. Others have commented that the vocal quality was good, though they didn't necessarily recognize that I was using something different than my normal earbuds. Still, super convenient to just use the mic instead of grabbing my earbuds for every call (and sometimes dealing with them not actually having been charged for whatever reason.) - large red capacitive button for muting - Giant red light on the front of the mic, some will love but others maybe not so much. For me I'm in the former camp, using it for work meetings. No question whether I'm muted or not. - app functionality - Stream Deck support for those who need it. Though this was not my use case still very nice to see here. the bad: - directionality/ambient noise suppression - The only real knock I have was that I could still hear some ambient noise picked up by the mic, when I'd like to see it more focused on what it's pointed at. A minor issue for me which most may not care about. The Elgato Wave Neo is a solid choice for anyone wanting a separate mic for either streaming or work calls. Very good sound performance and user friendly features, with just a little bit of a minus for me with ambient noise pickup. 4/5 stars.

    Solid Mic for Everyday Use

The Wave Neo is Elgato’s entry level USB mic for everyday users who want excellent mic sound without any fuss. Elgato delivers on this promise with one exception – see comments below about the excessively bright LED. PROs • The default sound is quite good. The mic is plug and play and requires no fine tuning for decent sound. The mic will be recognized as an input source without installing any additional software. • It’s lightweight, low profile, and made of sturdy finished aluminum. The base is thin enough that I can slide my desktop computer’s keyboard over its base a couple of inches to bring the mic just a little closer to my mouth, which helps sound quality. • You can mount the the microphone directly on the base, or use the extender to raise it a bit higher and closer to your mouth. The screw that comes up from underneath the base has a D-ring so you don’t even need a screwdriver. • There’s an LED strip that’s white when the mic is on. A gentle touch of the strip mutes the mic and the strip turns red. It’s a great visual indicator, especially since the strip is a decent size. • Elgato allows you to customize the sound coming out of the mic with their free optional Wave Link software. This software allows customizations by downloading plug-ins from Elgato’s marketplace. While there are only a handful of plug-ins, Elgato has their own free ones for EQ settings, noise reduction, and even making your voice sound like a post-apocalyptic broadcast a-la Fallout. CONs • The optional Wave Link software once installed on a Mac shows up as Corsair Memory, Inc. on the Login items of System Preferences. I’ll never remember that that’s for my Wave Neo. They should really register with a more obvious name. The software is a little buggy. When first installed on my Mac, it kept crashing when I launched it. But a computer reboot stabilized it. Then, when trying to use my headphones to monitor the output, I couldn’t hear anything from my monitor headphones. Finally, I toggled the monitor output just a bit and I could hear. • Similarly, the website for the Wave Link plug-ins is just as buggy. Once I download a Mac compatible plug-in, it recommends other plug-ins that are the Windows compatible ones, even though there are Mac versions. It’s very confusing. • And lastly, Wave Link software when running with Elgato’s plug-ins uses 35% or more of my CPU! Unless you need sound effects, you may want to avoid using Wave Link. • The LED light on the mic is annoyingly bright. I suspect many people will want to dim it. But to do that, you will need the Wave Link software which has a setting for it. Otherwise you will have a permanent key light for your chin. The good news is once the LED has been dimmed, you do not need Wave Link running, or even installed to keep the light dimmed. • The mic does not fit snuggly into the extension pole. There’s a little bit of wiggle that can introduce noise when touched and just feels cheap versus the rest of the build. • There’s no option to set the mic’s input pattern. It only picks up sound from the front side, i.e., a cardioid pattern. That means you can’t use it, for example, to record a face to face interview. • Despite a fixed cardioid input, the mic picks up a faint amount of sound from the back side of the mic. My other mic does not pick up backside sound at all, albeit, it’s more expensive. You might have to be careful of volumes causing echoes. • The cable that comes in the box has a USB-C plug for the mic’s port, but the other end of the cable is USB-A. That’s a very odd choice given that USB-A is no longer the standard. You can, of course, use your own cable, but the included cable has an nice form fitting plug for the mic side. This is a very solid entry level mic that works great out of the box. If you need a simple mic for video conferencing, streaming and recording, it’s a solid value for its price. With the optional Wave Link software, you can boost its functionality. And though it’s optional to use Wave Link, I think it’s unfortunate it’s needed to turn down the LED brightness. For that and the overall experience of the Wave Link software, I deduct one star, but still recommend the mic.

I've been trying out the Elgato Wave Neo and I think it's pretty good. I’m coming from the Wave 3 that I purchased from Best Buy two years ago and it's like the little sibling of the Wave 3, that said, it’s NOT the Wave 3, it’s the up and coming younger bro. The sound quality is good for a budget mic. It's warm and clear, picking up my voice without too much background noise. Is it as clean and crisp as the Wave 3? Really, no. The Wave 3 is a much much finer mic, but it’s $150 more! The Wave 3 definitely has a bit more clarity and depth, but at about 2/5 the price, the Neo will do just fine for a vast majority of people. The design is sleek and minimal, which I like much better than the Wave 3. It's all white and looks pretty clean on my desk. The Wave 3 has a more premium feel with its metal construction, but the Neo doesn't look cheap, nor does it feel cheap, but it does when compared to the Wave 3. Now, here's where the Neo falls short of its big bro: controls. The Wave 3 has a multifunctional dial for adjusting gain, headphone volume, and mic/PC mix. The Neo? Just a tap-to-mute button. If this is all you need, and you control your levels from a board, then that’s all you will need! Another difference is the max sample rate. The Neo tops out at 96kHz, while the Wave 3 can hit 192kHz. For most folks, this won't matter, but if you're doing serious audio work, it might be a factor. One thing I really like about both mics is the Elgato Wave Link software. It's pretty easy to mix and control your audio sources, and it works great with both models. If you need a solid mic for calls and content creation, the Neo is a great choice. But if you want top audio quality and want more control, the extra cash for the Wave 3 might be worth it. Now the awesome thing is that this mic is part of the new Neo set from Elgato and it’s HOT. The design of these together will really make your setup look really modern and fresh and cool. The series looks and feels meant to be together and they look really good on camera! That’s why I gave this mic a 5. When you consider getting a Facecam and a Stream Deck and a key light all in Neo flavoring, wow... it’s a hot hot hot setup for a reasonable cost; Definitely a recommend on its own.

The Elgato Wave Neo Mic has been a great addition to my home office and gaming set up. It has brought great consistent sound with taking up little space on the desk. The setup for the Elgato Wave was very simple and straight forward. When it says that it's plug and play, it truly is. You can mount the microphone directly to the stand, or use a extension that gives you a little bit more height. The sound quality of the Elgato Wave is very good and very consistent. I've used other mics in the past and they sound relatively good comparing them to build in mics on headsets, but the consistency of the quality varied. Not with this Elgato, it is crystal clear all the time. I've used this microphone for video calls for work, and for gaming and have had no issues what so ever. The position of the mic helps reduce the sound of the keyboard when i am gaming or typing for work while on a video call. Very pleased with the versatility this microphone offers. Overall the Elgato Neo Wired Microphone is a great consistent microphone. It wont wow you with the flashiness or features, but it gives a very simple useful user experience! If you're looking for a microphone that has a lot of features i would look elsewhere, but if you want something simple but effective, that won't break the bank, this is the microphone for you!

    ELGATO WAVE NEO

Ok so I just received my new Elgato Wave Neo few days ago and have been putting it through its paces. I have used other Elgato branded products in the past and have come to love the brand in recent years.
This microphone came along just at the perfect time as I've been looking for a decent microphone I can use while at work for my Zoom/Teams meetings and staff trainings. When you open up the box, immediately you're greeted with the white Wave Neo (not a dealbreaker, though I wish it was black). Further unpacking and you will find an extension pole, desktop stand, USB-A to USB-C cable, extension pole screw, as well as the base screw and user documentation. Setting up the microphone is fairly simple, and I love that Elgato includes and extension pole for those that want to make their microphone a little taller. My only problem was when connecting the screw to the extension pole the inner hardware became somewhat loose and I had to tighten that back in place. Also once I got the extension pole connected to the microphone, everything still felt a bit wobbly to me and not as secure as it is without using the extension pole. That's the beauty of it, you can switch it up however you see fit. On the front of the Wave Neo is a white illuminated touch-senstive strip. When lit white, that means the Wave Neo is operational and its picking up sound; when you touch it, it turns red and the Wave Neo is now in mute mode. On the back of the Wave Neo is the connecting port for the cable and also a headphone jack port. Over the last week, I've had to participate in a couple of conference meetings from my desk and the Wave Neo came in hand over my old webcam mic. During my participation, everyone stated that I sounded a lot more clearer than I normally do with my webcam mic. I even had a couple of them stop by my office inquiring about the Wave Neo. Now I've only used this with my Windows-based PC, however, it is compatible with macOS and I'm assuming probably ChromeOS as well. All in all I really like this microphone. My only qualm which isn't a dealbreaker was the extension pole not sitting flush or when I go to grab it and move it around my desk it came apart. Something wasn't tight, but at the same time the inner hardware appeared to have come loose somehow. For a standard basic mic, you can't go wrong with the Wave Neo.

    Perfect starter Mic for Streaming/gaming

This is a great sounding overall Microphone for streaming/gaming with friends, even *gasp* video conferences for work. ****SETUP**** It comes in a simple box with a fixed stand, and a USB C cable. The only downside is they made their cable a custom shape to fit in the back, so if you damage your cable and use just a normal USB-c the back of the microphone won't have clean lines, but it's in the back. However, on Windows 10, I plugged the cable in, and it was detected instantly and ready to, though only downside since it has a 3.5 mm jack for headphones it took over my headphones and I had to go into settings and switch back to my headphones, so be aware when you plug in for the first time you'll have to switch your sound output back to where you want it. ***Usage*** Without any other software though I was able to add it to my current setup and OBS without issues. However I recommend downloading the Wave software from Elgato as it gives you functionality and tuning of the microphone as well adding VST plugins to change and tune your sound. Also it has a nice LED on the front that is white when the microphone is recording and red without, using the wave software you change the intensity, and its large enough that you can't miss your mic being muted or open, so less of a chance of chat yelling at you that your muted. The only major downside is the Mic stand itself is fixed height and I would have liked the ability to raise or lower based on my setup. But its a minor bug for good voice sound. Overall I'm happy with this mic, and the wave software from elgato and easy intregration with my Stream Deck from them is a great plus and am very happy with this Mic.
