Worked for 2 weeks, then the lightning end stopped working. When connected to the iPhone, no access to files through app & no charge when connected to USB. Just an expensive USB stick now. Out of Best Buy’s return window also

I wanted to use this to put the photos, audiobooks and other media from my iphone on a device where I could still access them from the iphone, especially for traveling. It turns out you can only access the 128 GB storage from the EMTEC Connect application that you are prompted to download when you plug it into your phone. This app has 1-2 starts in the iPhone store (wish I'd read this before purchase).
PHOTOS (possible to transfer, poor viewing): I first tried to transfer my pictures using the copy function and it started asking me to approve each (of the 2000) photos one-by-one (to accept to copy? ok or cancel) and then would freeze or crash. The "Back-up" function transfers the photos more efficiently without crashing. However, when I looked at the number of photos using my computer (USB connection), it was missing about 10% of the photos (and I am not sure which). Viewing the photos on the device using the iphone can only be done on the app, which has a very inferior viewer compared to the Photos app. There is a delay between each photo waiting to load, totally takes the fun out of flipping through 2000 baby photos. It has a camera function, but the pictures it takes are vastly inferior to the iPhone app (also with a delay).
MUSIC (works for listening, but lose information, sorting features): This works okay for music which I transferred from the iphone to the storage device within the app. It doesn't move any of the information so you lose the picture of the album, artistic name, etc unless you go in manually (using your computer) and change the file names.
Audibles and iTunes (difficult to transfer, doesn't play on iPhone from storage device even with additional 3rd party app): As for audiobooks and iTunes movies or music, you can't play these in the native iphone appls. Instead, you can only use DRM free file types that the EMTEC Connect application uses. I have not found any way to use this listen to my Audibles books or iTunes TV shows. I used my computer to transfer my iTunes TV shows to this device (since it crashed everytime I tried to transfer the file to this device from my iphone (had to hard restart program). It wouldn't play them in the app so I downloaded VLC media player but it wouldn't allow me to watch them because of the DRM (even though it is same iphone as the itunes account). Thus, I decided to transfer some old DRM-free filetypes of movies to watch. I have not figured out how to get this device to work for the iphone files I was interested in.
CLEARING CACHE and PRIVACY: It is also very unclear from the EMTEC Connect device whether they are collecting information about your activity and sending it back to their company via the internet as it gives me a warning message when my wi-fi is off (why does it need wi-fi when my files are on the little device, not the cloud?). I couldn't find anywhere to turn this off. It is possible to clear the internal cache (which can be over 500 MB) by going to the setup icon and then clicking on "Cache" which clears it to 0. Need to do this after any transfer since it likes to save it on the app first apparently.
