Wife needed a new Laptop Computer which had speed, storage and enough Ram for her to do her 3-D Renderings, so we asked one of the BestBuy associates who knew about the in's and out's of many Laptop's which BestBuy sells and decided on this HP Envy 17.3" Touch-Screen, which has 12GB Memory-NVIDIA GeForce MT150 Video Card and a 1TB Hard Drive. This HP Laptop has been working like a horse for one year now without any negative issues. It is fast and booths up very quickly. The Touch Screen works wonderful, and you can also install a wireless mouse if you like. My Wife works with her Laptop all the time and this HP Laptop serves her well. This is one wonderful HP Laptop and worth the reasonable cost at BestBuy.

This is a big laptop. I usually keep it on my desk and don't carry it around too often, but nice to have that option. Touch screen works well, startup is quick, processing is fast. I thought that I'd have a difficult time getting used to the new style, no button touch pad but had it figured out in about 15 minutes. Videos and pictures look excellent with the graphics. The one thing that I'm having difficulty with is the fingerprint scanner. I can only get it to work about 50% of the time.

Rarely do I review on design when it comes to laptops. However, in this instance, HP should have stuck to the standard formula. The intended use for this is to replace an aging but still useful ASUS Laptop that I have frakensteined along. However, my excitement for this HP was quickly stymied as soon as it booted up to the setup screen. Two biggest CONS are the screen and design in relation to accessing the ports. The screen: The 2 Star rating is for the screen alone. It is is FULL HD, however, whatever glass HP chose creates an old Tube TV effect, which is quite bad. It makes Netflix movies look really dated and is hard to see using this laptop for any kind of photo or video editing. General use of typing, like for this review, and other document editing most background is white, and it is very easily noticeable of the "graininess" the glass creates. Also, before performing some of the many updates out of the box, YouTube videos were out of sync with audio. After updates everything seems to be fine after rewatching the videos I had issue with. Windows 10 has the Night Light feature which I use on my travel laptop and an office desktop. Like it a lot. However, using it on this HP it pumps up the graininess factor even more. Ports, the amount of ports are great, but when coupled with the design, again not sure what HP's thought process was? Given the hardware configuration its possible they were thinking of gaming and thus gave it more flair in the design department, but in doing so it creates an awkward situation for using the ports. Looking at the photo is easiest, but because HP chose to bevel the sides of the casing, when using a port or event the power port, it gives the impression that the direction of insertion should be at an angle, but that is not true. Insertion is a standard right angle to the side. In doing so no input will seat fully against the top portion of the port. I didn't find any issue with using the ports, but it is awkward nonetheless. Performance department, the laptop does well. With the amount of RAM and added standalone graphics power shouldn't balk at much and for casual gaming it should be just fine. That is outside of my uses, but do plan on doing desktop publishing and limited video editing. However, considering the section about the screen, not sure it really matters. Battery life cannot say, its a desktop replacement. It is an i7-U series which is meant for laptop applications, at the expense of top performance, so I'd assume the "6 hours" claimed will be close too that. In my experience, go with 75% of manufacturers claim. With a desktop replacement go with 50% of light use and base your purchasing decision off of that; and again, not until after you see the screen for yourself. It's real downer for me. Keyboard is great. Key's have great feedback and depth, not loud. However, they all look like they are tilted in different directions ever so slightly. Some look higher than others. Maybe its just an optical illusion from the casing around the keys and extra spacing to allow the keyboard lights to come through? The keyboard lights are great and it doesn't just light up around the keys, but the letters as well, so probably just answered my own question about why the keys look to be uneven. The lights are just on/off, no different lighting level, which is unfortunate. Would like to see the ability to also change the lighting color as well. The F5 Key is the On/off button F5 is secondary and on/off is primary, so that is at least a plus. Fingerprint Reader: It is located on the right side of the laptop on the edge. And now thinking about its location, I can only assume that this is why HP designed the bevels on each side as they did. I found it awkward to try and use my index finger, but using the middle or "tall man" and ring finger on the right hand was easy enough. But the point finger could be used just have to setup the print with the finger resting at angle to the reader. It unlocked the PC quick enough from sleep. I don't have a lot of use with it only set it up for this review to comment. I typically just a PIN to unlock, but can definitely see the benefits of having a reader once I retrained myself to use it. Do it on my phone, why not on my laptop? Sound: Bang and Olufsen by name badge only. It is a laptop, but putting that name badge on the laptop gave me higher expectations for loudness. It is definitely clear and full, but it varies greatly by source. Youtube and Netflix left me wanting it louder. Streaming Music via Google Music in Chrome was just enough. Lastly, build quality seems nice. Everything is plastic painted to look like aluminum. As desktop replacement, shouldn't matter. And hookup wireless mouse and keyboard and you really won't be wearing anything out. So that is my two cents even after inflation, which means its really not worth much! I've tried to hit on the highest highs and lowest lows. The biggest question, would I recommend? No...at least not at MSRP. Cut that in half and it could be considered given the hardware configuration. And lets just say the price I paid is considerably less than what MSRP is and I'm seriously considering sending it back. I would never even consider a laptop in this price range for my intended uses, but this "deal" just fell in my lap...no pun intended.

I would have given this laptop a 4-1/2 star rating but that was not an option. I didn't want to give it a 4-star rating because it really is an exquisite laptop. It is sleek, beautifully styled, powerful and fast as can be. It has a gorgeous, clear screen with vibrant colors. I like the feel of the keyboard with a soft little bump of tactile feedback from the keys. I don't really care about the touch screen since I'd rather not get a bunch of smeary finger smudges all over it. I use a wireless mouse and that's my preferred set up. The Bang & Olufsen speakers are surprisingly powerful and rich sounding. Now to my cons: ONE - The built-in optical drive is glitchy. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I went through a fix-it procedure with the HP Support Assistant. It improved it a bit but it's still not reliable. Since I already had my software loaded onto this beauty I didn't really feel like packing it up to ship it off to HP for repair. I almost never use the built-in optical drive and I have a portable one that works just perfectly. I have this feature covered to my satisfaction. SECOND PROBLEM: There are nifty features easily accessible on the row of function keys. One I like is located on F6 to toggle the speakers off and on. There is a little indicator light on this key to let you know when you have the speakers turned off. This light stopped working this past week. Not a biggie in the grand scheme of things. It still works to toggle the speakers on or off. But after spending over a thousand dollars for a premium laptop from HP I really expect features like this to function flawlessly. Again, I don't feel it's worth packing up the laptop and shipping it back to HP, but now I'm growing anxious about what else will fail next. One last comment, this laptop has a backlit keyboard which is a nice feature if you are in a low light situation. There is no adjustability on the level of light on these keys. It's just on or off (function key 5) and not especially bright. The brushed silver-colored surface of this laptop is a big selling feature in the looks department, but it doesn't work so well with these dimly lit keys. Depending on the angle of light when the keyboard is lit up, you will find it difficult to see the letters, numbers and symbols. I find I like working with the backlighting turned OFF because the lettering, etc. is very readable that way. If having backlit keys is a major decision factor for you, consider this carefully. I don't miss it at all because of the finish on this laptop. It was not a deal-breaker for me. All-in-all, I would heartily recommend this beautiful, fast, powerful laptop. It's sturdy, heavy, and well-made. With its large, beautiful 17-inch display and impressive speed and power, what's not to love? Try one!

I've owned numerous HP computers and my last laptop finally bit the dust. I was looking for a laptop and wanted to keep with an HP if possible. I wanted a laptop with a larger screen (which is difficult to find a lot of choices) and backlit keys...thankfully I found this model. I have been very impressed by the speed and clarity of the images as my last computer would lag a lot. I absolutely LOVE the keyboard! It's very easy to see the keys at night and the keys are raised up more than most laptops making it very easy to type like you're using a keyboard for a desktop. I'm very pleased with this model and would highly recommend it!!

Love this computer. I’ve had it for 2 months so far. I use it for work. 8+ hours/day. It’s fast. Allows for multiple tabs to be open along with other programs, picture quality is great, larger keyboard that is easier to use, battery life is wonderful, thinner and lighter than my old HP. I chose this one for the screen size, larger memory, and faster processor. Absolutely no complaints and I wouldn’t change a thing. A little more pricy than other laptops but speed and productivity make up for it. I’ve only used HP computers and this one takes the cake. Spend the little extra money on this one. Worth every penny!!

This is a good Laptop, its has a few issue, but I was able to restart the PC and get working again. The I7 process has a great speed and is really good, the internet WIFI is mostly fast, sometime slow, but the processer is great, the price was ok, but since it was an update laptop it was a good value, I hope this laptop will last 10 year or more. Just received it in November of 2018. I enjoy watching the wide screen. Good for movies & games. I would run out and buy one right away.

Let me say that if a utopia exists with a windows laptop, this is as close as you'll get to utopia. It isn't cheap, nor is it perfect. But, it does a tremendous job at being a tablet and a laptop. I found the features to be not only plentiful, but all working very well. A great backlit keyboard, a trackpad that rivals a MacBook (as well as could be expected), a bright and full size screen with amazing graphics, super fast processor, and plenty of memory and hard drive space with a hybrid system to speed processing. There was only one issue I had with mine which was it shut down 2x by itself and with no explanation. I could not fathom spending the money on a Windows laptop unless it was perfect. It might have been a fluke, or maybe I was activating some hidden shutdown keystrokes, but it wasn't an organized shutdown, it was a lights out completely off instantly, and for no apparent reason. As for design, the only thing I didn't like was that the hinges kind of get in the way as you open the screen, meaning they act like a lift and push the lower part of the laptop into the air, on the hinges. And I don't know why. Very strange design concept. But since it converts to a tablet, this might have something to do with it. But, if you want/need a top notch windows laptop, I'd highly recommend this - the 17" screen is as good as it gets, and the speed is 100% amazing!

This a great laptop. It replaced a 4 year old Hp 23" All in One. It will sit mostly on my desk, but if I need it to be mobile, it's only 7 lbs. I had the Geek Squad set it up and transfer a lot from my old computer. This cost me, but I'm sure it saved me lots of frustration. Nothing for me works exactly like those instructional you tube videos. Its a very fast computer. The Geek Squad agent first thought I had an SSD drive, but it's an intel I-7 8550U 1.80GHz quad core processor 7200-rpm Sata 1-TB hard drive with a 16GB Intel Optane memory. He said the Optane memory made it seem so fast. The screen is bright, the colors are vivid. It's very pleasing to look at. I use the computer a lot to work with photos and videos, using lightroom and powerdirector. In the 3 weeks I've used the computer, I have gotten use to the 17" screen. However, I did buy a 23" monitor because I thought I would miss the larger screen. Turns out the 17" monitor works just fine for me, so the 23" monitor was not necessary, but I hooked it up anyway. Several salesmen told me I had to buy a separate speaker once I hooked up the extra monitor. I am using a HDMI cord between the laptop and the second monitor and I still get sound out of the laptop no matter what combination of screens I use. Maybe I hooked up something wrong - but it works. This laptop seems to have all the bells and whistles I could ever want. The actual model # is 17M-bw0013dx. There are models out there with similar model numbers that don't have all these features, you can probably for less. I'm rating this computer 5 stars and also the Geek Squad 5 stars for setting it up.

I was hesitant to spend so much on a laptop because I never have before. (I’ve also never had a brand new laptop either.) I am so glad that I made the purchase! As an online college student I needed something that would be fast and reliable. This laptop has been the best one I have ever owned! The only downfall is that it is kind of heavy. I rarely carry it outside of my home so it’s not that big of a deal to me.

It is a very nice computer and easy to you, though it is quite heavy for a laptop, so I'm somewhat reluctant to carry it around. I believe the computer itself weighs around 6 lbs, then add the cord, mouse, earphones and tote, it can be a workout, but, other than that, it is a really nice laptop! It works well. Nice big screen, seems to handle programs /downloads well, fast browser, etc. I really like it!

This laptop may not be as light as some models but it's light enough to carry from room to room or even during the occasional travel. I would gladly take this model over the lighter ones because this has plenty of power, RAM, storage and even has a built in CD/DVD drive. The large 17" screen is high def and perfect for streaming movies or online gaming. It has more than enough of what I need. Highly recommended.

really nice laptop. It replaced one that was very similar to it but had gotten bogged down with new software and slow. this is my third hp envy and its been a reliable big screen portable....battery life and speed are good and geek squad service excellent....touch screen is clear and responsive....if i have any complaints its that the hinge design is problematic (has "worn out" in prior models i've owned) and i would have preferred it be a 2 for 1....undoubtedly a little bulky but for travel i use a smaller hp 2 for 1....
