This little Epson is one of many new models to feature two-year ink tanks. I have a different brand 2-year ink printer and can confirm that the ink lasts as long as claimed, at least in a home environment. We’ve been using the other printer for a year now and the ink tanks are still sufficiently full. Anyone who has replaced ink cartridges every few months can appreciate this. I can’t yet confirm whether or not the Epson ink actually lasts 2 years but I have very good confidence that it will based on our other printer. Even if it doesn't quite lasts two years, the fact that we are no longer disposing of depleted inkjet cartridges every few months is much better for the environment. This ET2720 has a small footprint but not a ton of features. This particular model is the budget model of the Ecotank line. It has a tiny non-touch LCD display that is easy to navigate but hard to see. At one point, I needed a magnifying glass to see the tiny text on the screen and I still had trouble reading it. The paper is fed through the back from a 100-sheet capacity vertical paper tray. I prefer horizontal front loading paper trays but this is the type tray typically found on budget printers, which this essentially is. The printer was easy to set up. Instead of replaceable cartridges, it uses refillable tanks. You simply fill the tank using bottles of ink. It’s easy to fill the tanks because it has a safety feature that prevents the ink from flowing out of the bottle unless the bottle is seated atop the ink tank. The bottles are also designed to fit atop their respective tanks only. That means if you accidentally attempt to place the black bottle on the magenta tank it won’t work. The bottles that ship with the printer filled the tanks leaving just a tiny bit remaining in the bottles. It leaves just enough to maybe last in a pinch until new bottles are ordered. I like the fact that unlike our other large capacity tank printer, this printer has a visible ink level indicator. No more guessing or relying on the printer to accurately report ink levels. I also like that pricing for refill bottles is comparable to pricing for regular ink cartridge refills. The printer connected quickly to wifi and has maintained reliable connectivity for everyone in the household. It’s also compatible with several wireless printing protocols including Google Cloud Print, Apple AirPrint and wifi direct printing. Wifi direct is for those without a router or home LAN. It allows connecting directly to the printer from a wifi enabled device to print. Print quality is okay. It’s not great but also not bad. It’s basically middle of the road quality. It’s fine for school, household and non-professional printing. If you need laser sharp text for professional documents, you may want to step up to one of the higher models. The printer also has scan and copy functions which work well. There is no fax function. Print speed is okay but again, the higher models offer faster printing that may be more suitable in a business or professional environment. I like this little Epson Ecotank and it’s perfect for our use, which is a secondary printer for the kids. They use it for schoolwork and other printing needs. It’s not full of advanced features nor have a ton of fancy bells and whistles but we only need basic printing more than anything. It’s nice that it’s at least a multifunction, so they can scan and copy if needed. Again, the main star of this particular model is the ink. If this weren’t a two-year Ecotank printer, it would probably retail for $99 or less. That should give you an idea of what to expect as far as features. Despite being a basic model, it’s perfect for household use. The fact that we’re not printing business or SOHO quantities means the ink will last quite a while.
