This is an excellent printer and fits my needs perfectly. The print quality is great; and I like being able to see the ink levels. I would have preferred a larger touch screen but overall I very pleased with my purchase.

Replaced an 8-9 year old Epson WorkForce all-in-one. Not the fastest printer but for home use it is perfect. And the ecotank makes very easy to maintain.

    Saving on Ink

Was hesitant about buying the Epson EcoTank as I have never bought a printer with ink like this (used to buying ink cartridges). However, the sales person at Best Buy (sorry I forgot his name) explained how it works to me and convinced me to buy this over the traditional printer with cartridges. So far I have been very pleased with the printer and happy that it does not appear to use as much ink as a cartridge printer does. The ink level is going down so much slower. Only wish the model I bought was available in black.

So far so good. We’ve only had it a short time and we haven’t used it too much yet but when we did use it we were very pleased with the quality of the print. Our old printer stopped working and we needed a replacement quickly so we decided to upgrade to this one per reviews and what it offered. The ink is vivid and seems like it’s going to last much longer than our old one and the print is clear and sharp.

    Upgraded from an Epson WF-3640

I used the Epson WF-3640 for several years with a self-installed CISS system (ink reservoir to bypass the expensive ink cartridges). It was wonderful, but occasionally it was cumbersome. With this ET-3850, I have almost all the features I loved with that printer AND the advantage of a built-in ink reservoir. It operates so very smoothly, I'm loving it. The only feature that I miss is the full duplex ADF of the WF-3640 -- now, for two-sided copies, I have to make two copy passes. But that's not critical, and this machine is wonderful.

    How is this the best?

Iv had nothing but a headache with this thing. The concept is great, it prints great on paper, but if you are constantly using it for index cards OR 8x11 sheets of stickers on a template its a nightmare. I have had to take off the back at least 30 times to dig a sticker out because the U-turn it has the paper make to go from in and then out sometimes peels the sticker off the paper and then gets stuck on the roller. on the flip side, doing edge to edge printing on cards is awful even with manipulating the settings its never what you really want, and ive probably wasted 100 or more index cards trying to get it to print how I want to just say screw it good enough.

Epson Printer saves cost on ink

I like the refillable ink tanks as this is a great saving over purchasing so many small cartridges as in the past. It does not print as fast as we were led to believe at the time of purchase but the copies are sharp. Works well for a home office that does not require large quantities of copies. Also scans documents, which I use frequently.

I use this printer for fliers, general copies, art prints, and more. It prints a good quality image and I don’t have to buy expensive ink refills all the time. I go through a LOT of printed pages and in a year’s time have only had to refill twice.

    Not impressed

Bought this is mid-February and it's now mid-April. So far I'm not impressed. I originally thought the reviews complaining about the lack of a touch screen were silly, but there are so many clicks required to do everything that I now appreciate what a dumb design this is. Seriously, it takes 3 clicks just to turn it off. Also I'm not sure these ink tanks will really last three years. I've already used 1/4 of the ink in just two months! Finally, the printer worked fine for 2 months and then just stopped with an error message nowhere to be found on the Epson support website. After doing every single type of connection check and reboot possible, I called Epson only to be told my problem was "too advanced" for the representative and someone would have to call me back within 24 hours. I FINALLY found steps to fix the problem elsewhere on the internet myself which required completely uninstalling and re-installing the software. The "advanced rep" didn't call me for FOUR days (not 24 hours) and when he did, there was no caller id so the call looked like spam and I didn't know to pick up the phone call. The printer seems to be working again, but I am not confident in its performance and would not buy this same model. Not sure I would buy an Epson printer at all again.
