I bought this printer for the cheap ink and high quality color prints based off of other reviews I read and watched online. I researched this purchase for over a month My sole use for this printer is for a home office After setting it up per the provided instructions, which were very easy to follow, I test printed some pages and was surprised at the low quality of the prints. Colors were washed out and not as sharp as I expected. Print speeds are also slow, but I was fully aware of that going in as a trade off of tank printers vs standard inkjets I am comparing the Epson my last office printer, which was a 2014 HP Officejet Pro 6810 which printed very fast in super high quality. It was perfect besides the ink cost. Never broke. Paper jammed once in a while. I don’t think the HP print quality can be improved after comparing to this I’ve attached a photo of the printer and the Best Buy receipt that I printed. The blue in this print is so much lighter than how it displays on a phone, tablet or computer screen. The black is faded as well. The text is mildly blurry. I know that sounds nit picky, but when printing up forms to show clients for work, it is substandard at best Everywhere I looked online showed how high quality the color prints are on these Epson EcoTanks are vs laser printers as well. The colors I’m getting look about the same as a color laser in my opinion, and with a laser I’d also be getting much faster speeds than the 15 b&w and 8 color ppm I get with this The cheap ink is a very nice benefit, but lasers have cheap toner too I mostly use the Epson app and my iPhone to print. I also have it connected wirelessly to my PC and it prints just fine from there It’s a nice, compact shape and very light compared to my old HP Scanning was easy. The scanner ADF feeder works great so far The paper tray is easy to load The screen is not touch sensitive, but the navigation keys are very intuitive so I don’t miss having a touch screen I’d say buy it if you want to save on ink compared to standard inkjets, but look elsewhere if you need high quality color prints and faster print speeds I give it a 1 star rating overall for how it compared in real life use vs my expectations I can see how it may be a good solution for others who don’t need super crystal clear prints or fast speeds It’s not an objectively bad printer, but it got rave reviews online. In my use with it the performance is worse than an 8 year old HP. I was only expecting this Epson ET-3850 to match that performance plus the cheap ink sounded like the perfect solution I will most likely see if I can return it and swap it for another printer

Excellent printer that reprints great photos and drawings. I bought this printer to make copies of my personal art work to send to friends and family. I have printed at least 150 photos ranging in size from 4x6 to 8 1/2x 11 in and I barely see any decrease In ink from the Eco-tank! Very please with my purchase.

Best feature is the supertank. Print quality good. Printer states it is USB port, however it does not. It has a port labeled "USB", but it is a printer connection instead. No capability to print from a jump drive. If printing from both Apple & Windows platforms, the drivers for each will need to be installed.

This is a great printer for people who don't do a lot of printing. The ink does not dry up like cartridge printers, and when you have to buy new ink it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Ink should last between a year and 2 years, depending how much you print.

The ink refill aspect was why I purchased this. HP stopped making cartridges for my otherwise perfectly functioning printer. Compared to my HP, the printer itself is very light plastic (dare I say it feels cheap), it is very loud, slow, and the interface is clumsy. It's not even a touchscreen! You have to dork around with arrows. Printing an envelope involves going in and changing two settings. Print quality is reasonable and it prints two-sided well. Sorry, I haven't tried the scanning or copying features. It does have a small footprint as another positive.

ET-3850 ADF doesn’t work, right out of the box

I bought one of these nice smart tank printers and went with this model because it had an ADF. Little did I know that the ATF simply would not work. I took the printer in and met with the geek squad and they confirm that the document feeder wasn’t working properly. They ordered another ET – 3850 and delivered it. I went through all the process of setting that up and again the ADF didn’t work. this time, there was a 3 inch long plastic shaft/gear that fell out of the ADF. Other aspects of this all in one seem to work. but it is comical that the ATF doesn’t work. My only option is to return this second defective, out of the box, Epson printer, and get a replacement. This issue is not at all to do with Best Buy, it’s all on the manufacturer, Epson.

This printer was a good upgrade from my old HP one. There was a winter cyclone when I bought this and it came to solve the printer errors I was experiencing with my old printer. I haven't had any troubles since buying this one and it connects very easily to an app for scanning unlike my old one.

I really wanted a printer that helped eliminate ink waste! So far, it's printing well. Graphics not as sharp, but pass for basic home printing. However, I already had paper getting jammed when trying to copy 2-sided, but printing 2-sided has been ok. It's still pretty new so the jury is still out.....

Don’t do it. There are other printers on the market with better qualities. I returned the Brother ink vestment printer because I didn’t want to buy ink cartridges. I regret it so much. The epson takes so long to print. Not only does it take forever to start printing but just to finish printing the sheet is excessive and it constantly gets stuck and freezes. All of the prints are grainy and not great quality. The scanner is even worse. I really wanted the auto feed scanner on the top of the printer so I opted for the more expensive model for this feature. It was not at all worth the extra $100 dollars. The scanner freezes all the time. One scan job with 3 pages has been stuck like the picture below for 3 minutes and counting. It’s only scanned one full page. I have the epson desktop single feed scanner and it works so much faster and flawlessly. I had high expectations for the auto feed scanner. Overall I am so disappointed with my purchase, I would return but I am 4 days past the 2 week return policy.

Its a good printer, ecotanks make much more affordable. Last version I replaced after two years, but i purchased the extended warranty as i find all retail printers overpriced. At the retail cost this should at least have an RADF (reversing automatic document feeder or offer a single pass option for another $100. Decent output, better for forms and pdfs than images. If you want to do images, get the best inkjet paper possible. Good luck & if you will use it for 1,000 + prints a month, get the extended warranty or upgrade.
