Great Printer - Even Better Investment

After using the Epson EcoTank ET-3850 for about a year, I’ve found it to be an incredibly solid and reliable printer for home use. Its build quality feels professional, almost like the larger printers I use at my office, but its compact size makes it perfect for home settings. When it comes to print quality, the EcoTank delivers great results for my needs. While I haven’t tested it with photographs, for everyday documents, cards, and similar tasks, it performs flawlessly. The text is crisp and clean, and even in eco mode—which I’ve used to save on ink—the quality remains high enough for my purposes. The ink system is where this printer really shines. Despite printing around 200 pages over the past year, I’m still running on the original fill of ink. That’s the beauty of the EcoTank system: the printer may come with a higher upfront cost, but the ink usage is incredibly efficient. I’ve found it to be very cost-effective, especially when compared to cheaper printers that end up draining expensive ink cartridges. As for usability, I’d say the setup process was simple enough. I’m not a fan of the extra suite software that comes with most printers, and I’ve avoided using it. However, the basic driver package gets the job done, and both the printing and scanning functions have worked perfectly for me without any issues. In summary, I’m very satisfied with the Epson EcoTank ET-3850. I can’t think of anything to improve, except maybe wishing it were a little cheaper or could do even more. But at the end of the day, it’s done everything I’ve asked of it at a price I felt was reasonable. Just remember the general rule with printers: buy a cheap printer, and you’ll pay for expensive ink. Spend a bit more on a quality printer, and you’ll save on ink costs in the long run.

    Enhancing Efficiency with the ET-3850

As someone constantly navigating the demands of both work and personal projects, integrating the ET-3850 into my workflow has been a significant step towards enhancing efficiency and productivity. While it's not without its minor drawbacks, overall, it's proven to be a reliable and versatile tool that earns a solid four-star rating from me. Impressive Print Quality: One of the standout features of the ET-3850 is its impressive print quality. Whether I'm printing documents, presentations, or high-resolution images, the results are consistently sharp, vibrant, and professional-looking. The ability to produce borderless prints adds an extra level of versatility, allowing me to create a variety of materials for both personal and professional use. Cost-Efficient EcoTank System: The EcoTank system is a game-changer when it comes to printing cost-effectively. The large ink tanks hold a substantial amount of ink, significantly reducing the frequency of ink replacements compared to traditional cartridge-based printers. This not only saves money in the long run but also minimizes the hassle of constantly monitoring ink levels and rushing to replace cartridges. Versatile Connectivity Options: The ET-3850 offers a range of connectivity options to suit various needs and preferences. Whether I'm printing from my computer, smartphone, or tablet, I can easily connect to the printer via Wi-Fi or Ethernet. The Epson iPrint app provides convenient mobile printing capabilities, allowing me to print from virtually anywhere without being tied to my desktop. User-Friendly Interface: Navigating the printer's settings and features is a breeze thanks to its intuitive and user-friendly interface. The 2.4-inch color touchscreen display makes it easy to access and adjust settings, monitor print jobs, and troubleshoot any issues that may arise. Additionally, the setup process was relatively straightforward, requiring minimal time and effort to get the printer up and running. Minor Drawbacks: While the ET-3850 excels in many areas, there are a few minor drawbacks worth mentioning. The printer's footprint is relatively large, which may be a concern for those with limited desk space. Additionally, print speeds, while adequate for most day-to-day tasks, could be improved for larger print jobs or time-sensitive projects. In conclusion, the ET-3850 is a reliable and efficient printer that delivers impressive print quality, cost-effective operation, and versatile connectivity options. While it may have some minor drawbacks, such as its size and print speeds, its overall performance and functionality make it a valuable asset for both home and office use. If you're in the market for a versatile and reliable printer that can handle a variety of printing tasks with ease, the ET-3850 is definitely worth considering.

So many people complained online about the setup process. It took a little time and dealing with the Epsom app (I'm not an 'app' guy, either) wasn't exactly the way I'd like to do things but it went smoothly, step by step. No issue with finding and connecting our Wi-Fi. Prints quickly (enough) for our uses, made copies with the ADF, seemed to work well. Nice not having to buy cartridges, of course, and after sitting idle for about one week, didn't have to clean heads for a clear print (not yet, anyway). Complaints? Scanning an item has become burdensome. Ought to be able to lay it on the scanner bed and not have to open another app/program on a computer. Manufacture materials could be a little more stout; delivery tray and top pieces feel a little flimsy. Overall, I'll call it 'good'.

    Best Printer I've Ever Used

I've tried quite a few printers, but Epson has been my 'go-to' brand for years. This may be the best printer I've ever used. It connects in the standard way to your Mac / PC. But it's very easy to set it up via WiFi for wireless printing. There is an app (Epson Smart Panel) to download to your phone (iPhone or Android), which sets up the printer, including configuration of your home network. Using the app, you can print from Google Classroom and print photos from your phone, among other functions. Once printer setup is done, you add the ink, which the app steps you through. The system is well-designed for filling. The cartridges are well-marked, and the bottles can only be inserted one way (in one orientation). I thought filling would be messy, but the bottles have a valve on them, that only opens when inserted into the ink reservoir. There is no spillage whatsoever. The flip up lids on the ink reservoirs have gaskets that seat tightly, so you don't have to worry about ink drying up. The ink bottles, I expect, will last SO much longer, and they are so much cheaper. The days of printing everything in black and white, due to the price of ink, are definitely over!! VERY exciting! One of the best things? It's fast. Even double-sided and color prints. I use my printer wirelessly, and when I press 'Enter' to print, the job starts printing immediately, with little to no time lag. Printouts and pictures are crisp. This printer truly raises the bar. Again, it's really wonderful that I can print things in color without second-guessing if I need to, due to the price of ink. I have no negatives / 'Cons' about this product; it really is that good.

I bought this printer after a recommendation from a coworker about the ecotank line of printers. I had an Epson workforce 3650 before. No issues with it and I loved it, but preferred to try and save ink costs. My work requires a ton of printing. What a difference with this printer! I love the technology of it. Set-up was super easy with the app. I have not had any issues with the quality of the printing. It looks great. I had to print pictures earlier this week and those were nice quality as well. There is a way to set presets for the type of paper that you upload into the printer and it makes it faster than manually inputting each time. When I had the photos print on 4 x 6, glossy premium paper, it adjusted and turned out great! I’ve use the copy, scan, and print functions. My only issue has been with the ADF. Every time I try to use it it says there is a paper jam. I have a separate scanner, Epson 500W and I use that for scanning so the ADF isn’t a big deal for me but I’m definitely reaching out to Epson about it. I’ve only had it set up for about a week but so far, it’s a keeper.

I bought this printer to use in my home office. I had used a different brand which NEVER really worked the way i wanted. I use the printer for scanning bills, receipts, and other documents into my computer, rather than saving paper. This printer has functioned properly from day one, whereas other brand required multiple hours with online support. Printing and copying are excellent. Still on my first tanks of ink, will see how that really works.

Most all of what has been written has been pretty accurate. The phone app for WiFI hookup and installation was amazingly easy and well done. The unit at first is very noisy and was about to return it. Quiet mode was set on the printer. What I learned later is on the document to be printed had opened up the printer app and discovered another "quiet mode" there. Once that was set the printer did get considerably quiet. This unit replaced my 2006 Canon Pixma 870. Yes two head replacement later really struggled to buy a replacement. As you can see it has been very reliable. Now the down side. The paper tray only holds 8.5 X 11 paper and then not very well. The tray does not secure the paper on all sides just one. If legal paper is to be used the tray edge can be lowered and the paper laid in there. Guess that is how the footprint was reduced from the Pixma I had. The scanner platen cannot scan legal sized documents. Unless someone has a idea. The ADF may scan them but here is the down side. The ADF paper holder seems to fit only 8.5 X 11 paper. If a stack of legal paper is to be scanned they will fall back due to lack of support. It has a four inch overhang. When the document is scanned the paper holder again is too short. The legal paper will over hang by four inches. Over all it's an Okay unit but not for college or small business use if legal docs are also part of the owner's need for scanning and printing.

After years of buying cartridges to keep cheap printers alive, even all-in-ones, I finally took the "Tank Plunge" with this Epson, which got the best CU scores I could find for under $300. Took me maybe 5 minutes to load up the ink tanks. Didn't spill a drop. Printer configured itself afterwards, this took about 10 minutes of rattling and moving around but I didn't do a thing. So far I've printed many photos with the unit, they print quickly and I still have about 75% of the ink I started with! I'm loving the picture quality. I've also used the scanner. Epson's app is not the best and 600DPI scans of photos take longer than they should in my opinion, that's why it got 4 stars instead of 5. Overall I am well satisfied and will never go away from "tanking up" again! Print with confidence!

I love this printer! It was very easy to sync with my desktop and my phone. Its smaller than my older printer and the ink is WAY less expensive, although it came with enough that I wont need anymore any time soon. Im a Realtor scanning contracts with lots of pages so I love that it can scan multiple pages. It was also very affordable for my home office.

Average size foot print not small not big. Prints B/W and Color copies fast wireless.Fill bottles easy simple easy to fill tanks. Printed over 100 B/W office documents and 50 color invoices and ink tanks including initial charge only down 1 mark on gauge total of 4 marks on gauge window so I'm guessing 1 mark down would be still 3/4 full looks like long lasting ink supply with bottle fill tank system. Works with Chrome OS and not all printers do. Most functions commands work with keypad buttons picture screen is not really a touch pad control if your used to a touch screen controlling all functions. Wireless printing speed and response is excellent.

Only One Complaint - Slow Scanner

I bought this printer to replace a Brother B&W laser all-in-one (which was operating perfectly and was extremely economical) but was VERY large. That Brother printer replaced a Canon inkjet which was breaking the bank with the cost of the ink. I wanted the ability to print in color without paying a fortune in ink, and the Epson Ecotank seemed to be the solution. It was easy to set up, the print quality is very good, and it doesn't look like a mastodon sitting on my desk. I scan a lot of documents and some photos, and the quality of the resulting images is very good, but my only complaint is the scanner is INCREDIBLY SLOW! My Brother scanned images of similar quality, both B&W and color, in a fraction of the time. I've tried setting on different resolutions and all are SLOW! I guess this is something I'll just have to live with, but overall, this is a great printer. Although I haven't had it long enough to need to refill the ink, I think it'll be a money-saver. I also like the fact that this model prints two-sided, which is obviously a paper-saver. All the good points outweigh the one complaint I have.

This printer replaced a WorkForce printer, which had a mental breakdown. Compared to the WK, this printer is a little slower printing a page and a little louder when printing. Otherwise, the ET prints well, the colors are bright when printing in color. The small screen for selecting operations takes time to adjust to, but options are easy to read and comprehend.

Best Printer I’ve Ever Owned! Worth Every Penny

I’ve owned this Epson EcoTank for over a year now, and I can honestly say it’s hands-down the best printer I’ve ever used — and I’ve owned more than eight printers in my lifetime. As a parent, I print constantly — school letters, permission slips, forms, projects, colorful classroom materials, and countless black-and-white pages. Despite that heavy use, it took me over a year before I even needed to refill the ink for the very first time. That’s unbelievable efficiency and value. The print quality is consistently sharp and vibrant, whether it’s text documents or full-color images. It’s quick, reliable, and never clogs or gives me the “printer headaches” I used to deal with from other brands. The EcoTank system is genius — clean, easy to refill, and incredibly cost-effective. After years of trying different printers for both home and creative work, this one stands out by far. It’s powerful, quiet, and designed for real-life families and creators who print a lot. If you’re looking for a printer that will actually last, save you money on ink, and handle everything from homework to photo projects beautifully — this is the one.

Worthwhile Investment for Home Use. The printer set up was straightforward enough when following the directions. The scan print and copy functions all work as expected. The print quality of the documents is acceptable. It’s been in use for a month with no problems. The lack of a touchscreen takes a little time to be familiar but not a dealbreaker. The Epson Smartapp is very helpful.

Bought a little over 1 week ago. Setup was simple. Filling ink tanks was very easy. After downloading the printing program from Epson.com, I printed a 92 page, double-sided document (black ink only). Text was sharp and everything looked professional. Next up was an 8×10 photo. Colors were bright and quality was very good. This is not photo printer perfect, but still, very nice. Alot of reviews mention this printer is noisy, I didn't find it any noisier than your average printer. Overall, I like this printer and recommend it.

This is a pretty lightweight printer, so it is easy to handle during set-up. Very pleased with the ink management which uses bottles which easily fill the storage reservoirs; much cheaper and easier than the old ink cartridge approach. The printer works well, but it is advised to use it periodically or an ink jet might dry up and refuse to print a selected color; this is probably common across all inkjet printers though. I definitely do not like the status screen because it is not a touch screen like my old printer had, which is the reason for the 4 star rating instead of 5. The printer has a relatively small footprint so it easily fits on your desk or anywhere with limited space. I would buy this again

Setup is simple, and the Eco Tanks are a relief from annoying cartridges. The printout quality is crisper, clearer, brighter than the Canon I had for 10 years. I love that Best Buy has trade-in--super convenient and helps with my 1 in, 1 out rule. I like that it's smaller than my other all-in-one, and does not have the useless fax feature. But its construction is flimsy plastic--the paper drawer, the auto feed tray, and the cover all feel fragile. That is likely the case with all today's home printers. Three functions I don't like: 1) the off power down is more involved than it needs to be (why can't it just be 1 button?); 2) scanning is not intuitive; and 3) the auto feed does not scan TO double sided, it can double side only printing--not fully functioning, IMO. Last, it's helpful that my family can print to this from their PCs, wirelessly, after downloading the apps. Yet, why does Epson need 3 different apps? Maybe I'm used to the Canon having one menu to print and scan from. With Epson, I need to open the scan app if I want to scan, or open the print app if I want to print. And it's confusing and unnecessary that there are 2 different scan apps that seem to do the same thing. I also notice it's louder & slower than my dinosaur Canon was. And it's overpriced. However, it works, does what I need, has good printouts (I print photos & recipes so this is important), and is lightweight.
