If you print paper in bulk then this is the printer for you. I print about 500-600 sheets of paper a month (mind you it isn't black-and-white text paper - I am mainly printing colorful and dense photographs onto 40/lb presentation paper).
My previous printer, the Epson 7100, had amazing print quality, but it was a complete ink-hog. I had it for a month and found myself spending over $300 solely on ink cartridges that month - double the price I paid for the printer itself. And this isn't even mentioning the fact that I was using third party ink which was about 30% of the price of Epson's official ink (and the best part is that Epson loves to automatically update the software to make third-party inks incompatible.
All this is to say that this new printer in terms of its efficiency is amazing. I buy the official ink refills because for the amount of paper you can print for their price, it is actually worth it and then some. I will likely be saving myself thousands of dollars as well as not having to deal with the messy process of using cartridges. Yes, it lacks a touch screen, but how often are you really using the screen on the thing? And it also looks and feels dirt cheap, but again who actually cares about the aesthetics of a printer?
Now, I've only had it for a month so I can not speak on its ability to hold up to my high-volume printing long-term. I am hoping my total tech insurance will be able to keep those issues at bay.
Also - the print quality is definitely not as great. It took me nearly 2 hours to calibrate my settings in AirPrint to get the colors as close as I could get to my previous printer. This printer out of the box just does not get there in terms of color accuracy. Colors are washed, completely off in the reds and blues, and just come out horrendously. But luckily spending a few hours printing out test photos until I could land on the best settings has helped for this issue.
For me, these drawbacks are barely anything when compared to the sheer amount of savings I will be able to have by just having this. The ink feels infinite when compared to my previous Epson which would require a refill thrice a week. And for that, it is worth it.
Also, the scanner is awful. If you need an ADF then look elsewhere or just get a third-party one.
If you print a lot...get this....or any ink tank printer for that matter...and do NOT look back. Do NOT get persuaded by that printer with slick black plastic, or a touch screen, or cool gimmicks.

Great Printer So Far

This printer replaced a several years old Workforce 520 that was great but was starting to give me trouble. I really like this new printer and think the EcoTank system will save money in the long run. Setup was somewhat convoluted as I needed to connect directly to my iMac (new M4) with the special Epson USB cable that I had fortunately kept from my old printer. I did try setting this up via wifi but for me this did not work (after getting it setup on the network others are able to easily "find" and connect). The print quality is very good and so far I am pleased with the purchase.

We have a couple printer in the office but this one is the best, the ink is cheaper last longer, it’s easier to use compared to other brands. It has good size.

I’ve owned it a little over a month and I’m very happy with it. I love not having to worry about ink cartridges. Last year, I replaced my 2 printers with another brand similar to this and there were so many issues with connectivity. I would constantly have to reset the printer. This one does not have any of those issues. The print quality is great and it prints very quickly. The scanning app is not as easy to use as other brands but once you get used to it, there’s no problem. Would definitely recommend.

This printer is excellent in printing, but scanning is more wonky than it used to be (and should be). Ever since Apple updated the Mac OS, I have to go into the applications folder to scan a document. While this does work, it is lengthier of a process than it should be. Hopefully, some day Epson will update the scanner software to work with the driver for this printer.

Very happy with the print quality, speed, color, etc. I replaces an Epson ink jet that used expensive cartridges.
One minor annoyance is that occasionally it will stop printing and tell you to buy more ink, when all four ink wells are almost full. Sometimes I have to turn it off and back on to clear that.

OMG, can there be a better product!! This is the absolute best printer we have ever used, and believe us when we say we have used plenty. The savings on ink products alone is outstanding, and the quality of this product is the best, not to mention the ease of its use. This product should have been available long ago, but we are happy we have it available to us now.

I bought this unit to replace a large Canon color photo printer and a very large Canon color laser printer. The photo printer died after several years of moderate use.
The color laser printer lasted about a year and a half. The 4 laser cartridges cost more than the printer to replace. I bought an off brand toner the second time around, but I could see toner particles on the paper and in the printer.
I have also had HP laser printers which also died.
Anyway I thiought I was going to get a b&w laser, but came across these Epson eco inkjet units, which got very good reviews, and sounded cheaper in the long run to keep refilled.
So far, so good. The inkjet black text is good, it could be a little darker, but is probably adjustable. The colors are OK. I haven't printed any photos, but it is there if needed.
It is very compact, even cute, compared to my Canon color laser unit.
I have a lot more space now. And I will save money on ink if the unit lasts long enough.

This is a very nice printer. Very fast, prints both sides, keeps paper safe in its own space. The scanner works nice and smooth. Im going from a cartridge ink printer to a resevoir tank printer not sure how thats going to work since its new to me, but overall im very pleased with it. Its like having a small office printer in the home. Very multifunctional. Gets the job done.

Excellent printer and easy to use. The ink last for a very long time. I bought this product almost a year ago and will have to replace the ink in about 3 months. Offers the option to print on both sides for less paper waste

Love this printer! Meets all my expectations for color, clarity and ink needs. The refillable ink tanks are so good that you truly don't go thru ink like cartridge printers do. I love that I can print photo quality pictures as well as documents. I would recommend this printer in a heartbeat!!

my family loves this printer, having a teenager going to college and using the printer for homework and school work helps me save money on ink. the second reason I really love this printer is that it has been so easy to work with, other printers would not stop working at crucial times. the Ipson-eco tank ET-3850 is a game changer, I even bought a second one. Thanks

Epson Printer Not Quite as Great as Shaq Indicated

We purchased the Epson ET-3850 in February 2023. We previously had an HP printer, but it would often print with lines on the paper, so we needed something with better quality printing. We us our printer for personal needs, but often use color printing and scanning capabilities.
Like other reviews, we found the set up to be cumbersome. My husband is an IT professional, and yet it still took him a couple hours to get it all set up. Once set up, we had lots and lots of wi-fi connectivity issues. For some reason the printer would lose wi-fi connection, and the only way to get it restarted was to restart the computer, printer and run the diagnostic - sometimes multiple times. Due to the continual wifi connection issues, we have reverted to using a direct connect cable. Note that the cable is an "older version" with one square end and one USB end - luckily we had an old one of these laying around. My husband works in a different room, so having to use the wired connection for printing each time is inefficient. And the fact the control panel isn't touchscreen is a nuisance, but not that big of a deal.
We do really like the compact size of the printer, and the ecotank for ink works very nicely. I have printed quite a bit in two months, and have only used 1/4 of the ink. The print quality is very good, and the speed is pretty good on heavy color powerpoints.
Generally, I would say print quality is better than the old HP, but the wifi issue is much worse. And our old old Brother was the best of all three, but it was very large and took a lot of room on our desk. But I think I'll go back to Brother next time.
