Great All-in-One Color Printer
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had other Epson printers in the past and they work great and this one has improved even better! The software setup was more efficient than the past models. It didn't take to long to setup and get online. The instructions are very clear and the bottles of ink you have to add to the tank are very easy to fill. There is actually some extra ink in the bottle after you fill the tanks. It says it should last 3 years so I am excited to see how long this ink will last. Loading paper is very easy and holds quite a bit of paper (250 sheets). Once you are connected to your wifi network printing from your devices is very easy. Making copies was also easy and quick to use as well as scanning. This printer does not take up to much room and is fairly quiet. What is very good feature is two sided printing. What I did enjoy was it came with a usb port which I had a few files on a flash drive and was able to print items off of those devices. This will be our main printer for quite some time and look forward to seeing how long the ink lasts.

Solid All-in-One With Excellent Print Resolution
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Epson ET-3950 is yet another all-in-one printer in Epson’s EcoTank line up. The EcoTank refers to the printer taking ink bottle refills, being “economical” with the ink, and coming with a claimed 3 years of ink. My personal experience with other EcoTank printers is that perhaps if this was just in a home office of an adult who doesn’t run a business that regularly prints things or have kids for whom one regularly prints things, you’d get three years. For the other cases, expect more like 6 months. Functionality wise, you have a wireless printer that can also copy and scan. There’s a feed tray to automatically feed pages for the copy or scan functionality. You can also lift up the cover to manually place documents on the scan bed. There’s just a single paper tray that holds up to 30 sheets and it supports double sided printing and collation. Ok, so, specs aside, what’s the experience actually using it? Set up is a breeze. Pretty much you’re taking off some packing material, plugging in the power cord, and configuring wifi, fill the ink, and calibrate. This particular model using touch sensitive buttons and a touchscreen for navigation. While there’s an app, it’s not needed for setup or mobile printing. There were no issues getting it to connect to my wifi network and it immediately printed from my desktop, laptop, and android phone. Print quality was good. Black and white prints were fast with color ones taking about twice as long. If you’re printing color heavy documents, you’d want to either pause between pages or grab individual pages to give them time to dry. I would not recommend double sided photo printing. That said, this is par for the course. While I didn’t glean anything special from scanning, copying a photo showed this printer has very good print resolution. Breaking out the photo paper, I was pleasantly surprised that the ET-3950 can serve as a decent photo printer when used with appropriate paper. That said, it still suffered from smudging on the edges of some prints so if you do a lot of those, be prepared for fallout. I was pretty impressed by this printer though there are some areas where it could be better. Looks wise, the printer is pretty standard though it looks a lot more boring than other mid-level home office positioned ones. It’s also a bit on the larger side. While the black and white print speed is nice and the potential long lived ink is a plus, the tray capacity of only 30 pages is laughable. And with something that has such good print resolution, it’s annoying that it doesn’t have an aux paper tray (could squeeze one in with it’s size) or aux paper feeder so I could feed in a sheet of photo paper without needing to disturb the main tray. For these reasons, I rate the printer as a solid 4 stars.

Does what it's supposed to office work-Now faster!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ET-3950 is a new model of an ET line I've been using for the past 4+ years. These printers have a singular value proposition: Simple, capable (now faster) color office printing for documents and projects with lower TCO and ink costs than comparable cartridge-based systems. This latest model delivers on all the promises from before. The printer prints beautiful color prints, with decent image fidelity for an office printer, and VERY FAST output compared to its predecessors, now boasting up to an ISO 18 pages-per-minute rating, I could see the difference in this vs my slightly older EcoTank printer I pitted it up against. This printer arrived just in time, as my long-out-of-warranty earlier model had just stopped working on WiFi networks. I was a bit disappointed that the new system didnt support newer WiFi, opting for WiFi6 instead of newer WiFi 6e or 7. I expected EPSON's latest at-bat to include the latest tech for future-proofing, especially considering the higher price this time around. Printing didn't disappoint, but it also didn't impress. While fast, I attempted to run a few photo prints through with EPSON studio gloss photo-grade paper, and this worked, but I just couldn't get skin tones or sky colors to come through with the fidelity I was looking for. I didnt downrate for this though, as the right printers for such work are the ET-8500 or ET-15000 series for creatives. There are some new design flourishes on this year's 3950 model: New LED accents over the eco tank door, and a closure of the front panel and paper tray that make this thing have an overall smaller closed/inactive footprint, and some nice changes to the button/control design on the main panel. All in all for those looking for EcoTank reliability, good office print quality, not looking to do photography prints, and looking for the lowest possible cost-per-print for ink, this is your machine.

Quuck and Frustration Free
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Epson EcoTank ET-3950 is an all-in-one (without fax) inkjet printer that uses high capacity, refillable tanks instead of cartridges. I have been using Epson refillable tank printers for about the last 4 years and I find them to be reliable and frustration free. There is a greater upfront cost compared to cartridge based printers, but that cost is more than made up in the reduced cost of ink over the life of the printer and not having to deal with the frustration of constantly ordering expensive ink cartridges. The ET-3950 comes with enough ink to print up to 6600 black or 5500 color pages and improves upon previous models with the addition of auto duplex scanning and faster print speeds. It comes with a 30 sheet auto document feeder. Connectivity includes wifi, wifi direct, ethernet and usb plus support for mobile printing via Apple AirPrint. In summary, if you are looking for an all in one device that is versatile and takes the hassle (and cost) out of ink jet printing, I recommend the ET-3950.

Great for Home Office and Kids Crafts!!!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I haven't used Epson in years but with the price of ink being a solid expense and with kids that love to print and color, I was happy to look at alternatives. We all know about the brands that rely on cartridges that auto-empty over time, whether you use them or not, and also expire plastic cartridges and force you to buy their microchipped OEM ones or face warnings etc. Until now, Epson started this trend with the EcoTank lineup, except they also bypassed the cartridges altogether. Great! Less plastic waste, less vendor lock-in! Just refill with ink from either Epson or wherever it is cheapest and pour it in. What a great idea. Now with Kids I appreciate this even more. They are always asking to print out coloring outlines to color themselves, or detailed art they can then cut out and make into arts and crafts. Now I no longer cringe and mentally calculate how much in ink that dragon head is going to cost me, or how soon I'll have to buy more ink, because I can just refill this printer with the cheaper refill ink. Also, the 3950 is a nice All-in-one which means it can also scan and is wireless. Because all the kids are in school, we can't keep all of the artwork they take home. So we scan a lot of it in! Throw it on the NAS at home and that cuts down on the clutter. We do ask of course but the kids love this too because they can just look at their creative art without fumbling through a pile of papers, or worry about damaging them or making a mess. Definitely recommend it, we put ours in the craft room so that the kids don't have to come in my home office to get their prints or to scan and the older ones can help the younger ones print and scan, its great!
