Customers admire the EpiqVision™ Ultra LS500's impressive picture quality and brightness, frequently praising its exceptional clarity even in well-lit rooms. However, some users noted that the projector's required distance from the screen might be a drawback for certain setups, and that the device produces significant heat. The ease of setup was also a positive aspect highlighted by several customers.

We recently completed our basement and looking for a Short through projector, after reading tons of youtube videos and reviews finally decided to take this EPSON LS500 model, I was very happy that I made right decision also got this from Best Buy, I agree it is a bit pricey hence had to grab the 24 months no interest option but definitely worth the money. The setup was very easy, all we have to do is decide the length of projection you need and adjust the distance from the wall, 110” was sufficient for me, next adjust the image to have a perfect rectangle, last but not least had to adjust the sharpness of the image, i was really amazed of its brightness and clarity even in the afternoon, phenomenal!! We are projecting directly on the wall, there was no need of any special screen for this projector. We painted bright white on the wall which was more than enough to get a great clear picture. Also I connected my Samsung Q990C SoundBar(also bought from Best Buy) to Arc connection of this projector and it connected without any hiccups. I’m very satisfied with this projector and definitely recommend!!

4k Short-throw Excellence

Design:
The Epson EH-LS500W is a straightforward classic short throw projector that draws its inspiration from straighter functional think tank ideas. The device color I have is the white version which is clean and sleek looking. The Placement of the lens is centered in the rectangle shaped box that serves purely to function with out being a center showpiece in your home entertainment setup which can be distracting when looking at it once you place it on your stand or entertainment center. The lens is big and looks massive popping out of the box, which can really detract from the overall elegance and flow of the piece if its being showcased in the entertainment center.
Features:
The connections are placed in front of the projector as to minimize the distance needed for cords due to it being a short throw. You will find two HDMI 2.0 connections, one with ARC, a USB connection for the optional Wi-Fi adapter, a stereo mini jack audio output, a network connection, and RS-232C for control. On the back side you have panel that hides access for USB to add a streaming stick or something to project media wirelessly on also houses an extra HDMI port in the small recess. I used it to add a chrome cast stick to project different pictures and VR from the Oculus.
The biggest selling point of this projector is its short throw capabilities. The laser lighting is claimed to deliver a maximum light output of 4000 lumens. This is insanely bright lighting compared to other home entertainment devices which set it apart from the rest of the pack when measuring peak brightness. I tested and used this in a completely blacked out room. The brightness also lends well to rooms that are lit with lots of light sources and would still be capable of producing vivid and clear pictures. The 4000 lumens brightness is accompanied by an even bigger contrast ratio claim of 2,500,000:1. This means your picture will be extra clear, bright, and vivid in all aspects. Though these numbers will be reducing your overall lifespan of the bulb which has a lifespan around 20,000 hours, which can be extended if you use the eco-mode but will impact overall performance.
Quality:
The LS500W offers Pro-UHD 4K Enhanced Pixel Shifting’ technology, which isn’t true native 4K technology, rather its is boosting the pixel count to deliver 4K quality it relies on a trio of 1080p LCD imagers to which Epson applies its 4K PRO-UHD pixel-shifting and image processing. This doubles the number of on-screen pixels per frame to about half of what a full-4K projector can do. The LS500’s menus offer you the ability to change and alter the various picture adjustments. Picture presets include Cinema, Bright Cinema, Dynamic and Game modes, with the game mode reducing input lag without impacting picture quality at a drastic cost. The other two Cinema modes offer some flexibility for altering the projector’s pictures to accompany your different viewing environments in lighted or dark. The good aspect in one of the Cinema modes its reduces the laser light output to just around 50% of its maximum, by just delivering 1200 lumens versus the 4000-lumen max promise which will help in dark rooms but also increase the bulb life saving you money in the long run-on bulb replacements. You can even pump the laser output in 5% increments. But it also increases the operating noise level very much that can be distracting when viewing movies. You can also have 3D viewing with the LS500W but they do not include any glasses to view the content so that would be an additional cost and trying to find movies in 3D would be another barrier, but having the feature is good for those who invest in the 3D area.
The sound speakers included are your run of the mill 2x 10watt speakers. If you are buying this device, you most likely have a home theater system or soundbar to accompany it. The speakers included are weak and offer very subpar performance and sound like speakers stuck in a well that really do not reflect the high-quality product producing the sound. But they are adequate at low volumes but lack the bass and high-quality movie theater sounds you will crave.
Picture Quality:
This is the meat and potatoes of the device and what I was most excited for about this product. The promise of 4K UHD with HDR10 had me excited especially from a short throw projector. The 4K does not disappoint, this is the true star of the projector. At first glimpse its sharp and crisp with details rich and vivid on the wall. When you are up close you can see a little hint of the pixel shift technology blurring the sharpness and crispness at times, but not enough to detract from the overall picture. The Black levels is always concerning with projectors. When it comes to dark movie scenes, they tend to look grey where they should look black when its brighter rooms. The colors lose some of their pop as well I noticed, but this is when I was approaching the max 130” image screen size. When I brought eh screen size down to around 100” things fell back in normal ranges of color and brightness and the vivid color scheme. This leads me to believe that the device short throw capabilities are being strained in its upper screen sizes which could cause uneven viewing enjoyment at larger sizes.
Over the course of viewing movies and testing to see how the color representation translated, I never saw the green or yellowish hues on skin tones, they presented in uniform natural realistic skin tones which was refreshing to see such realistic vibrant colors coming through. You do not get the washed-out whited gloss over picture in the bright rooms thanks to the laser driven picture always delivering bright clear and crisp picture quality.
Testing:
I paired my LS500W with the Bose Soundbar 700 and Wireless subwoofer and wireless rear speakers. The test Environment was a blacked-out Room with Zero light at set the test screen size at 100”. This proved to be optimal settings and placed roughly 1.5 feet from the wall due to my layout. I used a PS5 and Xbox Series X as my gaming devices to test 4k gaming.
First up was the Movie Avatar due to its bright and vivid colors that it uses. The first 10 minutes of the film were jaw dropping on the clarity and colors it produced. The blues and green foliage of the scenes just popped on the wall as the scenes projected. There was not any distinct coloring issues or motion blurring with the picture that was being produced. Pausing the screen, it was not distinguishable that the pixel shifting was causing any ill effects on the picture. The sharpness and clarity were very uniform throughout as well as the deep blacks. The blacks did not produce any greyness or washed-out aspects in darker nights scenes. The scene where they are walking at night and its lit up buy fire and tree sprits you could see every detail in the Cinema mode for dark rooms.
Secondly, I tested Call of Duty Cold War, it registered 4k at 60hz through the Xbox and PS5. The systems allow for 120hz option, but the projector is limited to the HDMI 2.0 ports and do not have the bandwidth to produce 120hz. That was a shame to see as other traditional TV sets are offering this feature of HDMI 2.1 and beyond.
Starting the Multiplayer matches it was quickly evident that the lag input was minimal thanks to the Game mode option on the LS500W. The picture and response were smooth and had noticeable transition issues projecting any visual fidelity issues. Gaming on 100” screen took some time to get used to as every detail is exceptionally large but offered clear visuals of players on other teams in often hard to see places on traditional tv sets that are usually less than an inch, were now almost 2-3 inches bigger and extremely easy to spot and take out. I did remove the motion blur effect in game to see how it would reproduce on the projector and safe to say it was crystal clear.
The downside I did notice is during darker scenes in the game on campaign, you would get glimmers of some unbalanced whiteness. To offset this, going into the menu and altering the lumens to the 1200-4000 range fixed the issue and put back the colors and vibrant visuals you saw in movies.
The HDR looks like HDR in the gaming and movies, the way it processes it gives the pictures a more realistic feel and look. Seeing the way lighting is impacted by the HDR was very welcoming and had a natural but high-quality look throughout the other movies tested. Gaming was hit or miss but I believe that was due more so in part thanks to the consoles needed patches to correct the way those systems process HDR in gaming. On the Xbox it did show up as HDR10 working and did not check off the HDR10 box. The projector is both HDR10 and HLG compatible and comes with Epson's excellent tone-mapping and 16-step HDR Setting brightness control. So, this really helps with all HDR content that is being displayed so no worries about HDR content!
Normally you would see the 16 step HDR settings in very high-end devices which was a welcome treat for myself being a techie, the only draw back here is the color gamut. The full 10-bit HDR processing is on board to minimize banding, but the limitation here is in color gamut, which is only rated for Rec.709 and not the full DCI-P3 wide gamut. This was a little disappointing to find during my testing, but the full DCI-P3 matches the range of colors available in most 4K content we have available today on the market. The tradeoff is understandable with the 4000 lumens and the insane contrast level you are getting all in one package.
Overall: I highly recommend this product! As you can see by my photos I was able to get some fantastic dark colors in a dark room setting on a fixed screen!

This projector is super bright, and I can watch using a wall or a UST screen. The UST Screen makes it super nice, even in daylight. The projector just has nothing else going for it. It doesn’t have Bluetooth, no coaxial cord if you want to stream local channels without cable, no optical input, it's huge and has to sit 30" away from your wall/screen to project a 100" screen. (Measuring from the wall to the back of the projector @ 21" H.) It appears that the 3d only works for hdmi 1 or 2 devices, not the HDMI3 (the 3rd HDMI port is for the Android TV. I don’t have the choice turn on 3d serring unless I use HDMI 1 or 2. It would make a great home theater projector, but not very practical for a tv replacement, unless you only stream or play video games. My gut is telling me to return it, but I'm sitting here trying to make it work. I'm thinking of going back to bulbs with a 3d ready as they have many more hookup options.

Outstanding Laser projector! Stunning quality!

I have been looking for a laser short throw project for a while and got Epson EH-LS500W. The Epson EH-LS500W is a laser short throw projector. It came with excellent packing with projector, power cable, remote, android TV dongle, and android TV remote. The lens is perfectly placed on the center and came with a plastic box to cover during non-usage. There are various ports on one side with consist of a LAN port, two HDMI 2.2 ports (HDMI 2 with ARC), USB – A port, a stereo mini-jack audio output, and an RS-232C port. On the other side inside the panel, there is one HDMI and USB port to connect the Android TV dongle.
Setup is easy and I have placed the projector on the wood TV stand. I have connected the power and HDMI cable and powered on the projector. The instructions were very clear and configured the android TV dongle as per the instruction manual. After the initial setup, I have turned on the projector and configured basic settings with provided remote. Please note that settings can be done in the projector panel as well. I have used the focus lever to adjust picture sharpness and a movie from Netflix. I was blown away by the picture quality and brightness. The 4000 lumens color and white brightness with 2000000:1 contract ratio delivered a crisp and clear picture. The provided remotes were very small and easy to use. There is no need for an Android TV remote as most of the functions can be done with the Epson remote itself.
Epson LS500W provides 4K PRO-UHD2 Projection Technology advanced processing for resolution enhancement, color, and image processing, resulting in an exceptionally sharp picture. It is pixel-shifting technology and not a true native 4K. However, the picture quality is equally good as native 4K. There are 4 presets Cinema, Bright Cinema, Dynamic, and Game modes available in the projector. While using Bright cinema and Dynamic modes, the noise is relatively high. With Cinema mode, the projector is whisper quiet and laser light output is only 50%. I have adjusted the light output setting to 60% to increase the brightness and keep the noise low. The bulb lifespan will be around 20,000 hours. This projector is 3D capable. However, no glasses provided with a projector. It has integrated speakers with 10 watts per channel. I am running with a 9.2 speaker setup with the receiver and not using integrated speakers. The picture quality is outstanding with 4K UHD and HDR10.
We have been using LS500 regularly now due to its crisp and bright picture quality. The picture quality is equally good as my Samsung 82” OLED TV. I have tried 4K movies, XBOX, Nintendo, and picture quality exceeded my expectation. I am looking to replace my existing screen with an Epson projector TV system when it is offered as a separate item for sale and I am sure that Epson LS500 will provide exceptional quality with Epson projector TV system. We played few movies on weekends with friends and they were blown away by the picture quality from this projector and everyone is looking to upgrade to LS500. I am not using provided Android TV dongle as I am using NVIDIA android TV pro to watch movies from Netflix, Prime, and KODI / Plex to watch family 4K videos from NAS drive.
It is advertised as an ultra-short throw projector and it requires a minimum of 1.28 feet from the wall for a 120” screen. I have to move the furniture from the wall to use the projector to maximize 120” output. This projector can deliver up to 130” stunning Picture Quality with an immersive, bright viewing experience for TV shows, sporting events, gaming, and movies by accepting content up to 4K. It has 3LCD and delivers a Maximum Resolution of 4096 x 2160 (4K) with 4000 lumens of color and white brightness. It has a digital keystone correction and a manual focus lever. It is energy-star certified and comes with a 2-year warranty.
We have been watching movies, sports on a 120-inch screen for more than 7 years now in the living room and it is definitely a huge upgrade from Epson 4030UB. LS500 exceeded our expectations with picture quality. Epson EH-LS500W is one of the best Ultra Short Throw projectors in the market and highly recommend to everyone.

Fantastic Projector

Before I get into the review, I just want to give some context on my perspective. I have never owned a projector in any form before. The largest TV I have ever owned is my current 55” LED LCD. That being said, let’s get on with the review.
This is an absolutely fantastic projector which is relatively easy to set up, the only issue being the distance you need to have it from the wall. Unboxing is a simple process, and you really can go from box to watching TV in under 10 minutes, or less. Of course, if you really want to get everything dialed in perfectly, it’ll take a bit longer. One thing I found a bit odd right off the bat was that they give you a ChromeCast-like dongle to plug into the unit, instead of just building it right in. I guess this was a cost cutting measure, but at this price point, it just seemed like an odd choice. They even made a little compartment to hide the thing away. And they provide you with two remotes, which I’m not even sure why. I’ve been using the “main” epson branded one and it seems to control everything, including the google dongle, just fine. You can even do voice searches with it, which is pretty handy. Picture quality is pretty amazing. Having never owned anything bigger than 55”, the sheer size of the image just blew me away. Also having never owned a projector, I was prepared to be disappointed with the brightness and image quality, but I guess projectors have come a long way over the years. This thing looks better than any TV I have ever owned, and I don’t even have it on a high quality screen yet. I can only imagine how good it will look when I invest in a proper screen. Navigating the menus seems to be pretty straightforward, and even for someone who has never owned a projector, the settings don’t seem overly complicated. It seems to give you all the adjustments you need to really get your picture dialed in and aligned with your screen. I should mention, that the default brightness is turned almost all the way up, and at this level of brightness, the fan was a little too noisy for me. When my movie or show would get quiet, I’d be able to clearly hear the fan, and it was a bit distracting. Luckily, turning the brightness down a bit, or just choosing the “Cinema” picture mode instead of “Cinema Bright” solved the problem. With the fan at the lowest speed it is hardly noticeable, and the picture is still plenty bright for me. The biggest issue I have run into with this projector so far, is the distance you have to have it away from the wall. For 100” screen, it needs to be about 17 inches away from the wall, even further for 120”. And the unit itself is about 13” deep, so the front of it will sit almost 30 inches away from the wall. After doing lots and lots of searching, I have found that they just don’t make TV stands this deep. About the deepest you will find is 24”, which means at best, you still have to have your TV stand 6” off the wall. It doesn’t sound like a lot, but when you actually move the furniture that far, it just doesn’t look right to me. I’m used to having it almost flush with the wall, so this is definitely going to take some getting used to. Last thing I’ll mention is the included speakers. They are garbage. But one can assume that if you are purchasing a projector such as this, you are most likely going to provide your own sound system. If not, please do. I have the system temporarily set up in a small empty room for the purposes of this evaluation, and I have to have the volume turned up pretty high just to hear it. And once I can, it just sounds so flat and empty.
In conclusion, the EpiqVision Ultra LS500 is a great projector that has a stunning picture and is simple to set up and use. The built in speakers are borderline unusable, but you’ll probably provide your own anyway. My biggest issue is how far it has to be from the wall. For some, it may not bother them, but for me, it will take a lot of getting used to. Overall, it’s a great product that I’m sure I will love for years to come.

Review of the Epson EpiqVision™ Ultra S500 Laser Projector
Overview:
The Epson EpiqVision Ultra LS500 is an “Ultra Short Throw” (UST), laser, video projector. Simply, this means this device takes a video signal (HDMI, Streaming YouTube, Netflix, etc.) and projects it onto a flat surface, either a screen or wall. Unlike other most currently available projectors, this product can be extremely close to the projection screen/wall. This feature, in combination with advanced color/contrast reproduction, sets a high standard for viewing pleasure and accuracy.
• Epson EpiqVisionTMUltra LS500 Laser Projector - Model: V11H956520
• Immersive 130" Display
• New Ultra-Short Throw Laser-Array Technology
• 4K PRO-UHD Projection Technology
• Incredibly Bright Picture
• 10-bit HDR Color Processing
• Lamp life ~20000 hours
• Built-in Audio: Front firing, 10w Speakers
• 3D compatible (Active RF 3D glasses not included)
When I was asked to review the new Epson EpiqVision Ultra LS500, I thought it would be easy. I’ve used many of these projectors in my years as technical sales and marketing consultant. They were all pretty much the same requiring significant distance from the screen to project a usable size image. They also usually radiated enough heat to melt any nearby plastic. It didn’t take long to determine that this Epson was in a different league.
Unboxing:
The product arrived boxed with all the components easy to identify and well protected from potential shipping damage. Like most techie guys, I paid minimal attention to the instruction manual and jumped into setting it up. While it’s not advisable, the device is well annotated and intuitive to setup without much reference to the documentation. When I went back to the manual to see how some features worked, I found it concise and easy to understand.
What’s In the box:
• Epson EpiqVision Ultra LS500 4000-Lumen Pixel-Shift 4K UHD Ultra-Short Throw 3LCD Laser Projector
• Projector remote + batteries (IR)
• Android TV adapter
• Android TV remote + batteries (IR)
• Android TV USB power cable adapter
• Android TV HDMI cable
• Projector power cable
• Quickstart manual
Setup:
Getting the unit setup was pretty easy. I did have some questions about integrating the included Android TV dongle. The information for the dongle was projected on the Epson’s screen and after a simple pairing, worked flawlessly.
My first mistake was to place the projector about 8 feet from the wall as I’m used to doing. The projection was enormous. The Epson LS500 is an Ultra Short Throw but in truth, I didn’t believe it. I then moved the projector to about 16 inches from my white painted wall. The LS500 threw an amazing image approximately 7.5’ x 3.75’.
For keystone configuration the unit offers both Vertical (± 3 degrees) and Horizontal ± 3 degrees). There is a manual focus lever that allows you to adjust image sharpness.
Ports:
• Ethernet/RJ45 (Network addressable, RJ45) for remote management
• HDMI 2.0 x 3 (2 on the panel and 1 in a docking section for the Android TV dongle)
• USB-A (for power only)
• RS-232 (Serial) for remote management
• Service port (service and firmware updates)
• Audio out (Stereo mini plug)
Usage:
For my testing I used a PC with an NVIDA GeForce GTX 1660 Super GPU via HDMI and various 4k media samples. I also used the built in Android TV adapter, streaming YouTube and Netflix.
The colors were radiant with superb definition. A sampling of 4K media were impressive even on my orange-peel textured wall. I tried a few test patterns looking for distortion or compromised focus in the extreme corners but was unable to find any. Not surprising, the audio of the built-in speakers did not match the quality of the video. I would suggest an auxiliary sound bar for home use.
Unlike most of its predecessors, this projector uses laser technology rather that halogen lamps. I always thought heat from the halogen bulbs was a safety hazard especially if children were around. The Epson did not get hot thus making it more practical for home usage. This also allows for its “Instant Off” feature.
I also wanted to see how the projector fared with media files (e.g. .mkv, .mp4, .avi, etc). This process is managed via the Android TV dongle. I was able to easily share files from my Windows 10 pc to the Android TV adapter and then project them. The results were more than satisfying. Videos and images of family during vacations take on a new life when they’re life-size (or larger!).
Conclusion/Recommendations:
I was lucky enough to have some guests over on one of my testing sessions. The guests have backgrounds from extremely tech savvy to “not a clue”. All of them were impressed by the clarity and vividness of the images.
One recommendation I think most folks would like is a better audio experience. The 10w, embedded, speakers are “ok” for presentations but lack depth for movies. A sound bar or something with a good sub-woofer would really up the game.
While this unit does not fall into an “inexpensive” category, in this case you get what you pay for…and what you get is a well-built, high-end media device that will meet or exceed most user’s needs, both for home and corporate environments.
One minor issue: On the HDMI self-adaptation screen there’s spelling error. “totle mode” should be “total mode’, I believe.
Would I recommend this unit? Yes, for those that want to create a superior home theater experience or for corporate sales, marketing, or training situations.
Note:
This review is for the Epson EpiqVision Ultra LS500 Short Throw Laser projector that I received free of charge to do a test and evaluation. I am not an employee of Epson. I evaluated this projector in an unbiased manner.

Wow what an amazing projector.
This projector is not a native 4k but uses pixel shift technology. From my research means that it has a native lower resolution that scales up to 4k. I have a Native 4k tv 77 oled that I used to compared to. Using the same app on both devices to compare native to pixel shift is not really that noticeable. You need to be up close to see a difference. Color depth and black levels are different than pixel shift so I will not talk about that.
Set up was not easy and took a bit to get right. I have it setup for the 100inch display for now.
With all lights off and dark room. Wow very hard to beat the image outside of oled and physical screen size. The sound from the projector is about what you should expect from most displays not much depth but loud enough.
Loading time is pretty good average of 30 to 40 seconds. Including android dongle was the best choice and allows many more apps usage. I was able to stream other services with this android tv dongle that is included. Setup was a breezy since I have android mobile phone. All I need to do was use my phone to setup and install any apps.
Wow the image is bright and vibrant color just on the wall was well above most LED lcd tv’s that could be compared but also the screen size is much larger at 100inches.
Watching a regular blu-ray movie was a real joy. Watched Mortal engines and it did upscale the image and had no screen tearing and moved smoothly. The 4k uhd movie was also amazing!
Now all these pros I do have a major con. The heat this thing displaces. The room I placed the projector in after running for a few hours while enjoying movies got much warmer than the rest of the house. I cant wait to fully test with the screen that Epson is slated to sell soon. Highly recommend a ALR screen either 100 inch or 120 inch To get the best results.

Epson - EpiqVision™ Ultra LS500 Short Throw Laser Projection TV
I just received this product yesterday and my technical knowledge on A/V equipment is limited but I thrilled to share what I do know about this product.
A short throw projector (2 feet or so)
The video image is larger than HD TV's in the store (130 inches)
The image is sharp and clear. (4K Hi Def)
It has Android TV, YouTube and Netflix built in the unit . Other apps are available.
It has ports for Computers, DVRs and external sound.
It does sync with Android phones.
It connects with the internet with an Ethernet port and wirelessly
It has internal speakers (10W)
It is portable. Almost any would be able to lift and carry. That can't be done with a large flat screen TV.
I would recommend downloading the user guide from the internet to get the full use from this unit. Here is the link to the user guide:
https://files.support.epson.com/docid/cpd5/cpd57962.pdf
This product has a lot of positive reasons for considering the purchase of it. I have included pictures of the output from this projector. I have used the projector to connect with the built in Android app, YouTube and Netflix. I have connected my laptop PC to the HDMI port, as well. I would think that anyone who would be looking at a video product might consider this projector. I recommend it highly even though I have only used it for a couple of days.

I am new to projectors and currently have 3 flat screens that are anywhere from 2 to 14 years old. I have been happy with them all but, nothing has totally blown me away… Until Now! Not only did I just basically double my screen size, but I also improved the picture and couldn’t be more pleased!
Once I received the box, I set it on the floor and began to unbox it. I was pleasantly surprised at the simplicity of it all. The box, some styrofoam, and a couple of pieces of cardboard were all that separated me from awesomeness!
Okay, enough. I’ll be more serious now.
Included in the box are the projector, power cord, the android adapter, and HDMI dongle to plug into, two remote controls, one for the device and one for the android adapter, and the quick start guide. I will say that a more inclusive guide or instruction booklet would be more applicable for this type of device so I don’t have to grab my laptop while trying to work on the setup and configuration.
I set the projector on top of my entertainment stand and it made such a difference from the plasma that was there. It immediately made the whole room feel so much bigger without the TV on the stand and only a small white box sitting there. Huge improvement!
For my setup, the connections were simple because of my existing entertainment and sound setup. One cable plugged into the HDMI2 (ARC) port and the other into the power outlet. As the device powered up for the first time, I was a bit surprised that there wasn’t a setup screen that it defaulted to but rather I saw the Xbox welcome screen. I manually entered all of the setup screens and navigated very easily. From there, I had to adjust the position on the wall so that it all fit my area. This will be different for everyone depending on what you are projecting to but, I was able to get about 85 inches which greatly exceeds all of my other televisions. Once I invest in the screen, I anticipate this being at least 100 but upwards of 120 inches in total.
The projector will default to a 16:9 which I have no need or desire to change so it worked for me. One of the things I have been playing with is the focus; for some reason depending on the show or game, I do need to make some slight adjustments. It could be that I’m being extremely picky about what I’m seeing. A couple of letters on the top of the screen were just barely blurry while the bottom of the screen was absolutely perfect. Even the slightest adjustment reversed that result. I’m continuing to investigate.
I did try the unit without the surround sound to test out the speakers. My opinion was that they were sufficient but not especially impressive. For the price of the unit, I would have expected just a touch higher quality and something that could at least feel a little like surround sound similar to a soundbar. That said, this is not a knock on the device overall, it is not what it is made for.
During my first two weeks of using the projector, I made sure we watched a couple of movies, played games on the Xbox, and captured people’s thoughts during a UFC pay-per-view event. I have to say that I am extremely happy with it and plan on using it as my main viewing method once I can figure out a good way to modify my family room. Who knows maybe I’ll need to get a second one! Yes, I highly recommend this to anyone in the market for a projector and/or high-quality movie/video display. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have!

Paid over 3k for this bad boy. It is a short throw, so I thought I could put it within a foot of the wall for a large screen. However, I had to move the table its on away from the wall leaving a big gap between them...looks weird. Also, this unit has a very loud fan. You get used to it. I only notice it now when I turn it off. Unit gets very hot as well. It also blanks out the screen if something comes in in the room. I guess it doesn't like to share electricity. Pretty strange. That said, it's extremely portal and has an excellent picture

Initial notes: Setup is a bit of a bear, but once you have everything in place this trounces any other projector I have used. With the additional benefit of being able to house it near the screen, this makes it the ultimate projector for multiple locations and it has such a high picture quality in addition to the stellar usability.
Main things to remember before you setup:
1. Due to the somewhat exacting nature of the distances between the projector and the screen, you definitely want to put your screen up AFTER you decide where the projector is going to sit. I was using a projector screen that was hung previously and I definitely had to move it to make it work. My alternative would have been to build a shelf for the specific height I needed for the screen’s height, but most people buying a new screen won’t have to deal with this as you’ll just set it correctly on the wall first thing.
2. Go ahead and check out the online guide. While there is a quick start guide, I definitely needed the actual online guide.
3. There is an installation guide inside of menu -> settings. This puts a blue screen up with corner squares that really helps you line up the screen.
Initial impressions: This projector doesn’t have a lot as you open the box. There’s a good foam surrounding with a small box for remotes and cords and a bag with the quick start guides in it in several languages. I was honestly surprised that there wasn’t a dust cover or such included on such a high-dollar projector but it does include a lens cap to keep things safe when not in use. Unpacking was simple and all of the contents were straight-forward minus the two controllers but that’s explained well enough in the guide.
Setup: As mentioned above I started with a pre-hung screen so there was a quick realization after reading the guide that I needed to adhere to some specific measurements in terms of distance from the “back” of the projector to the wall and from the surface the project sits on the bottom of the screen’s viewing material. Since I was using a 100” screen to test first, that meant I needed to be 15.4” away from the screen and 13.4” from the surface where the projector is placed to the bottom of the screen’s material. This could mean creating a projector stand for your surface if you want you screen to be higher than required to raise the projector to match the specifications. I experimented with this positioning and if I had needed my screen to stay where it was, I would have made a wooden box with the exact measurements I needed to achieve the height necessary. Alternatively I ended up taking the screen down and re-aligning it for my needs. Other than that the actual projector setup was fairly straightforward and finding the “installation guide” screen was the most helpful for adjusting my the picture by physical moving the projector until it was centered. In addition I made use of the small feet on the back of the projector to adjust the tilt of my projector slightly. After that, I used the keystone adjustments to really dial in the picture for the screen. The biggest mention is that at full zoom (which is the only resolution recommended for a 100” screen), there’s not really any vertical or horizontal adjustment aka image shift. If you have a larger screen, you can use the zoom-tele setting to adjust the size and when you’re not a full zoom the image shift controls are allowed to provide better maneuverability. An additional interesting thing with this projector is that there’s an Android dongle included in the box and so the projector actually has a housing behind the magnetic front screen that allows this to stay connected and hidden away for use anytime.
Actual use: Once the system is dialed in, the more robust remote comes into play as it controls both the Android TV and the projector. Without the Android TV (if you decide not to plug it in) the less busy remote is very simplistic and allows just enough functionality to get you through setting up the projector and switching inputs. There’s a small focusing lever behind the magnetic mesh front and that helps make sure your focus is perfect for the distance. I appreciated the magnetic setup as it kept things clean but as often as I was opening and closing it, it made it very accessible also. HDMI arc functionality is available and I tied into my stereo receiver. My first test was with the built-in Android TV dongle and it operated passably well. Play Google videos performed alright and the Netflix app seemed snappy enough. Your other normal streaming systems are available on the Android TV. This projector really started to shine when I switched to my input from my arc receiver and had an Apple TV behind the receiver for content. Considering the 4k nature of the projector, you want to make sure your receiver has 4k passthrough but assuming it does the picture is phenomenal from my tests with 4k Vudu content. Colors are sharp and motion blur is at a minimum unless you’re trying to take a picture with your camera phone. Testing this projector with video game systems I was pleasantly surprised by how responsive games were and I did not find any noticeable ghosting even as I was playing FPS games along with other more frantically paced options.
Overall: This is obviously a quality projector. The 4000 lumens is stellar in terms of providing a bright scene in almost all situations. I will say having experienced the bundled Epson screen (the SilverFlex Ultra ALR screen which my system did not come with) at another person’s house that it is well worth the investment with this projector especially if you’re using this in a room that has windows. That being said it will still perform very well on standard screens and the quality appears head’s above anything I’ve used before including my current Epson over-head projector. This was a great addition to my setup and I’ve since taken down the over-head setup and am now using this as its replacement.

Key description. HUGE and amazing picture.
I was skeptical about this front throw projector because back when projectors first came out they were not that great. They would get whited out from ambient light. The picture on older projectors were hard to focus. The old back throw projector TVs had those grooved screens that did not allow for viewing from the side. Oh my how technology has evolved!!!
I bought a 120" screen to make sure I could maximize my screen size environment. Holy Cow!!! It is almost like an Imax theatre in my family room. I am running Onkyo 9.2 Atmos avr with Klipsch speaker setup. My sound setup coupled with the picture just completely immerses you in a surreal experience.
I could not believe that a projector from such a short distance away from the screen can do such a spectacular job. I am so used to having to place a projector far away from the screen to maximize the size this only needed about 2 ft. Just amazing!
Setup was a snap. Plugged in HDMI from my 9.2 receiver with ARC. User controls with the remote was easy. On board menu was straightforward. Adjusting keystone was simple. Focus was easy to adjust. Adding the supplied Epson Streamin stick was easy. It comes with the ability to hide it inside the unit for a discrete use. It has both HDMI and USB power so that was a thoughtful design. This unit with Google TV as its streaming service. I had pretty much all of the streaming services that I needed, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, Disney +, etc. Which is fine, so it is pretty isolated from having bugs with proprietary software updates and all that because it only has to worry about Google and all of the apps on the app store automatically updates when they push out updates..
Size and look are very appealing. Think of it as a carry on roller back with a bump on the side. For the picture size this is worth the form factor size. I got the color white. It looks clean and sleek and modern. Like I said the fact that you can hide a streaming stick within its body is a good feature. The front cover panel is easy to remove. It has magnets that hold it in place and goes on and off quickly. The rear connectors for power and HDMI are straightforward and easy. HDMI in has ARC so it will synchronize with an amp that has ARC as well. Really nice.
Operation noise is not too noticeable. Typical projectors can be super loud during start up and cool down to make sure the bulb does not tank on you. This unit was not too bad and ambient fan was decent in being suppressed.
Specific picture quality comments are as follows. Besides the stunning use of a 120" which is already a jaw dropping size to me. It literally took up my entire family room's wall. The laser precision of the picture is spectacular. Colors are vibrant and distinct. I currently run an LG OLED 4K and I thought the picture quality on that was spectacular this is par to an OLED 4K. Side viewing is fine. No distortion that I could see. But I think this is related to the quality of screen that you have so if you fork over the cash for a better screen this will pay in spades. Operating and running this off of my Onkyo receiver while using other devices to stream through my Onkyo there was no noticeable lag. I did not have to do any sound to picture corrections for latency.
Overall the unit is great. It has a sleek look. It puts out a HUGE picture. Picture quality is stellar. Easy setup. Pretty small form factor for such a big picture with quality. Since this is a projector you can pick any wall that you want and just buy a screen that you can even hide if you want to be a minimalist if you want. So the options are absolutely endless. This means less cords. No need to run wires inside of walls to try and hide power, communications (if you are running network LAN - I do so I don't bog down my wifi), HDMI Cables, etc. Since this is a projector, you can literally take this outside and do movie night with the kids or play sports games with your friends and have an outdoor event during daylight and be fine.
3 small cons. Even though it is a short throw which requires a min of 2 ft. clearance from the screen to maximize the size. You need to make sure you have the room for that and plan accordingly with your room setup and furniture setup. The only other con is that even though it spits out the lumens for daytime watching, for best viewing I had to turn off the lights in my family room to really see everything that wanted. The last little awkward thing was the 2 remotes that it came with. 1 was for the streaming stick (Google TV) and the other was the projector. I ended up not needing the streaming remote and only needed the projector remote as it ended up synchronizing automatically with the projector remote and I was down to just 1 remote.
I would HIGHLY recommend this product. I am now seriously thinking of swapping my LG OLED out to just use this projector instead and patch up my wall to have a nice clean look to my family room again. Or I can just cover up the existing holes with a more permanent screen so I can swap it out in the future if I want. This way I can still have the flexibility there to go back to a flat screen later on. MMMMmmmm.. Lots of choices.

WOW! WOW! WOW! I have been looking for a short throw projector for a while and I so excited that Epson released this little gem. The device has 3 HDMI inputs, one of them you will use for the included adapter that allows you to stream andorid TV apps when connected to a wifi network.
Initially I set it up at home for gaming, so I c connected an xbox to one of the open HDMI connections in the back. BAM! What a picture. the unit is 9" away from my wall and I am getting a crystal clear 75" image that is fantastic for gaming even in bright light situations.
I then took the unit to a local gym for a volleyball workout and we showed a video to the teams. It was only a few feet away from the wall and it covered the entire wall, Check out the pictures. The image was crystal clear. OMG!
Adjusting the settings is a breeze, it comes with 2 remotes, and there are settings on the front of the unit as well if needed. The front mesh grill comes off easily as it is attached using magnets. So you can access the manual settings as well as the focus setting. This is where the internal speakers are located too. If you want an even more immersive experience I would suggest connecting a soundbar via the HDMI ARC connection.

“This is a review for the Epson EpiqVision Ultra LS500 Short Throw Laser projector that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review.”
This is a lot more than what I expected in a projector. I knew it was likely to replace my current home theater set-up and was prepared for that but the quality of the picture and once I understood everything it could do, it blew me away. Connections for every possible
Unpacking and set up is pretty easy. I didn’t hook it up to our cable system yet but it’s ready to stream Netflix, Chrome, etc. right out of the box. And yes, my husband helped me with all of this this. It’s not small (not overall huge either - about the size of an old VCR). But it’s light.
You will need to dedicated theater area and cabinet for the best experience. The fact it’s short throw makes it very easy for set up. But, we will need to make an investment in a better screen than who we have (basically on older screen that probably my Dad used for slides). They aren’t cheap but reasonable. We’re doing some research and it will make the 4K experience completely unreal. Part of what we realized - this is a LOT more than a projector.
Once we have the theater set up with the screen and a new surround sound system (the unit’s sound it very good) I will post another video.

Great picture for 4K content, although room needs to be slightly darkened for the best effect (I don't recommend putting it near a window). I'm rating it 4 stars because it can be a little buggy at times and I had to return the first one because the sound simply stopped working. But, I would recommend it.

Easy set-up. New look in our living room!

We are using this projector on top of our fireplace mantel. We were tired of having our living room be dominated by a big TV screen. We like how our living room now looks.
Unfortunately, our mantel is not deep enough to allow the picture from the projector to be much larger than 70"m(its capable of displaying up to ~120"). For a maximized picture the front edge of the projector must be around 20" from the wall. You would then need the surface to be at least 35" deep to take into account the body of the projector (15" deep). A standard fireplace mantel is not typically that deep (ours is 20" deep).
The set-up was very quick and easy. My husband and I unplugged the HDMI and power from our old TV, took it off the mantel, and plugged in the projector. We hit the power button on the remote and the full menu popped up on our wall. There are 2 remotes which cater more to Google products than Apple products.
The projector is louder than we expected. It emits a fan noise when turned on. The fan is not loud enough to interfere with the sound of what we are watching.
Picture Quality is awesome. But we live in a 100 year old craftsman house, and the walls in our house are far from smooth and perfect. The imperfections of the walls are visible when using the projector. Therefore, the picture quality is limited by our walls. This can be fixed by buying a screen, but would defeat the purpose of changing the look of our living room. We are considering buying a pull down projector screen.

My LS500 projector is paired with the Epson 120" Silverflex screen, Apple TV for streaming, and a Yamaha AV receiver. Awesome! The Best Buy sale price on the equipment made my choice a no brainer. The system was roughly the same price as the 85" Sony & Samsung TVs, but this covers just about the entire wall. Picture quality is outstanding and the sound coming out of 4 large Pioneer speakers with 16" woofers makes a subwoofer a little redundant. I may add a center speaker just to cap the system off, but for now it is just fine. No wires, no drilling, no dry wall repairs, easy set up.
