I have been using Epson scanners for over 10 years and have been impressed with their products. I have an Epson Perfection V30 however needed a more portable scanner on the go. Luckily I ran into this gem and have been presently happy with the results. The documents scanned are quick easy and legible. The pictures that are scanned are nice however would recommend to use it more for documents. Pros: Portable / Durable Powered by USB plug Standby Mode to Conserve Power Ease of Use 1200 DPI Resolution Customization of Scan Settings Length of USB Cable Cons: No Linux / Chrome Support Picture Scans Unable to connect to tablets / phones Legacy USB Connection / Not USB Type C ::Setup:: I installed this on my windows machine as found it does not have support for my HP Chromebook at this time of review. I am hoping they extend support to other operating systems as more laptops/portables are running Linux / Chrome OS. The drivers / software is located on their website and needs to be download / installed to use the device. They provide a key to install the convert PDF which is nice. Overall setup was very easy and quick however wish it would include the software instead of having to go to the internet to download it. Also wish they were using the USB Type C connection for the higher data transfer rates and optimized power throughput. ::Scanning:: Scanning with the device is extremely easy. It detects when you insert a document or picture and lightly grabs it ready to scan. It is then a simple one button click on the device itself to start the scan. Once scan has completed the software pulls up to preview the document and save. It can scan normal documents and pictures without problems. Even when using thicker material it was able to feed without problems. I even tried moving / nudging during the scan and it still comes out nicely scanned. Pictures are scanned however you can tell the quality difference even on 1200 DPI. More then likely its based on limitations of power being pulled by USB. I wonder if they had a separate power source or battery option if they could have pushed the DPI resolution more then 1200. ::Software:: The software is very basic and provides easy navigation when needing to save / preview the scan quickly. It is really nice when needing to be quick on a scan to provide the original document back to the customer. They do offer more in-depth settings for scanning and saving however not needed for average user. Overall I am really impressed with this and find myself using this portable scanner all the time while traveling. On a side note I love how it goes to standby mode when not being used to save on my laptop battery drain. I would recommend this product for anyone who is needing to scan a document while out in the field. As for pictures, it does the job however understandably if needing a more detailed picture scan would recommend a normal home office scanner.

The Epson ES-55R portable USB scanner has become very useful to me. It’s very portable (just requires a USB type A connection), lightweight, easy to use, and scans a normal sheet of paper in just under 6 seconds. It comes with Nuance Power PDF software and other software that you can use to organize your receipts and create searchable PDF files. The Epson SmartScan software to organize your receipts will automatically pull information out of the receipt such as the vendor, date, price, how you paid, etc. and is a time saver if you want to organize you receipts for tax purposes and such. You can easily export them as quicken files or .csv files as well. The Nuance Power PDF software works well and when you create your PDF file you are given the option to make it searchable, a regular PDF, or a .jpeg file. There are many options for creating files and I am very impressed with that. I did find that when you are scanning items, that they could easily get skewed a bit. I haven’t had any jamming issues, but it does pull the paper in and if you don’t have it lined up perfectly, it will be off a little. Not a big deal, but something to note. I look forward to scanning my upcoming receipts this year and being more organized with those and this scanner and software combo will help with that.

I have ten-year-old Epson printer that works perfectly. Epson makes quality products that last a long time, and this WorkForce ES-55R portable document scanner is no exception. It is excellent for digitizing documents and receipts on-the-go. I work managing accounting books for many companies, and I am frequently on the field. This portable document scanner is lightweight, compact (about the size of a ruler) and scans very fast. It saves me time by scanning documents on the spot. The software included is very powerful in that it gives you a ton of options to help you save time storing and finding critical data and documents. Having the opportunity to get digital documents is better because it saves money from having file cabinets, and it is easier and faster to access and to share. What I like the most about this product is the included software. It has a premium accounting feature that automatically extracts data from receipts/invoices (even tiny receipts), and it exports it into different formats (Quickbooks, Excel, and PDF). It is easy, the scanner scans the receipts and invoices, the softwares extracts data, and it then it exports it to another software or saves it to a location. The scan quality is impressive with the resolution ranging from low 75 dpi to high 1,200 dpi. The software is smart enough to get data from each scanned receipt with high accuracy. The data still needs to be review by someone for possible errors. The data extracted are the: date issue, vendor, total, tax, tip, and card used. The file name format options allow for three fields to choose from: vendor, date issued, total, tax category, card type, payment method, classification, and sub-classification. The software provides different actions when scanning other types of documents. It has the basic options like printing, saving to the computer, attach to an Email, and save to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. The software also offers additional options like sending the file to Google Drive, Dropbox, Evernote, and OneDrive. The only feature that I have not used is the Nuance Power PDF, which creates, converts and assembles searchable PDFs (also annotate, highlight and redact). The software saves the documents to PDF formats that can be searchable and editable. Overall, I am highly satisfied with my new portable document scanner. It is lightweight, compact, portable and it does a great job at scanning documents. The included software is powerful and very useful.

The Epson WorkForce ES-55R Portable Sheet-fed Document Scanner Receipt Edition for PC and Mac is a must-have for any small or on-the-go office. Scanning documents and receipts no longer need a desktop/flatbed scanner as Epson has perfected the process with one of the smallest scanners available. I found the scanner unit to be extremely minimal which honestly concerned me, but was very happily surprised to find the speed, quality, and usability rivaled anything I have used or tested on the market today. PROS - Tiny footprint make setting up and using this scanner possible nearly anywhere and in any space - Epson brand and quality - Lightweight - it is not a paperweight or doorstop - making this unit easy to bring anywhere you need it - USB connectivity makes it nearly universal - Software is easy to install and use CONS - Software must be downloaded to use - Only usable with PC or MAC - Chromebooks are a no-go Overall, this is a must-have for any office or home where scanning documents is a must and space is limited!

Photos cannot be scanner directly(you will need a carrier sheet for scanning pictures The Review —————- SUMMARY I wanted a scanner to be able to remove clutter from my kitchen drawer since me and my wife constant had fights over saving all the receipts and mails in the kitchen drawer. So I got this scanner to be able to scan receipts and trash them. It’s a very useful and convenient device for saving documents electronically. SETUP Very simple. Download the Epson Scansmart software from the epson website, install it and then connect your scanner to the USB port of the computer and you are good to go. USAGE Once you have installed the software, you can start feeding the documents into the scanner and it will automatically open the smart scan app. the app will then provide you options on what to do with the documents you scanned. You can save the documents to your computer, attach to email, upload to cloud, print it or save as a Microsoft document and also rotate the documents. The scanner allows you to save the documents as as PDF, searchable PDF, JPG or Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Powerpoint (only in Windows) Default folder for saving is Epson Docs Labs but you can change it. The documents can be uploaded to google drive or dropbox cloud services once you authenticate. You can start scanning the document by feeding the document starting with the left corner. You can scan visiting cards, receipts , paper of sizes upto 8.5x72 The documents actually scan pretty fast for such a tiny feeder scanner. It can scan a document in less than 6 seconds!! Which I think is phenomenal! All of the defaults can be changed by going to setting and you can chose the file format, location and how you want the documents to be named. Now, this module ES-55R also includes a receipt manager which can create files to be loaded to quickbooks. Since I am not in the business of managing inventory, I did not have the need to use this module. But I think it's a very good feature for maintaining accounts. Once you scan the documents you can open the receipts in the receipt manager and you have options to do several things. - export to quickbooks, csv or as image files. The receipt manager has options to also configure which columns you want to get displayed on your quickbooks export or csv files. You can deselect the columns in the settings. You can also chose the currency and language in the settings. If you are in US like me, I would just leave it alone! CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE Did not have to do this yet, but looking at the Manual, it looks fairly straightforward by scanning a cleaning sheet. The manual says clean several times a year depending on usage VERDICT If you want to clean the clutter from your drawers and be more organized in your business accounting, get this and shred the clutter! I don’t think there is any thing equivalent to this thing in the market today!

The ES-55R Epson WorkForce truly is portable. Measuring 1.3x10.7x1.8 inches and weighing in at only 0.6 pounds. The size makes transporting this scanner from office to home, or while traveling a breeze. Setup could not have been easier. Simply plug the usb cord into your computer or laptop, download the Driver and Utilities Combo package from the Epson website and this scanner is ready to use. Included with this scanner is Scan Smart Accounting Software. This is a great added feature. It gives you the ability to control what you do with each scan. You have the option to save, send to an email, google drive, Dropbox, Evernote, Word, Excel, Power Point, or OneDrive. With this software, you can review your receipts and classify them by tax category, making tax time go much more smoothly. The Epson ES-55R is a perfect fit for running our small construction company. Being able to classify and categorize several boxes of receipts will not only clear the clutter from my home office, but overall, keep me more organized and make tax time less of a headache. This is a great little scanner! Setup was easy with the included USB cable, no need for electrical outlets or batteries. After a quick download of drivers from Epson’s website I was up and running. Also included is Epson’s intuitive ScanSmart Accounting Edition Software, that allows for saving to Google drive, or as a word document, PowerPoint, excel, and many more. Scanning is quick and easy with one button operation. Documents look sharp with an impressive scan time as fast as five seconds per page. Combining speed and impressive image quality, with the ability to go from office to anywhere, Epson delivers big results in a small package. This scanner offers flexibility without sacrificing efficiency and makes getting organized at home, in the office and in the field a breeze.

Well this was a pleasant surprise! The Epson WorkForce ES-55R Portable Document Scanner is quite the little work horse. It's completely USB powered, so there's no battery charging to worry about. Super light and portable - this thing is less than 2 inches wide (10.5 inches long) - it really does feel like I could take it anywhere. Setup was super easy, driver and software downloads happen quickly and efficiently, and navigation is very user-friendly. The actual scanning is very fast (see video). My favorite feature is by far the Receipt Manager. Scan a receipt, and all of the information is imported to the receipt management portion of the software. You can then export this information to one of several programs, including QuickBooks, Excel, and PowerPoint. I can see this being very handy for household budgeting! Overall I'm quite impressed with this scanner. When i receive this product i am surprised of how small it is, i am super excited to used it, I open the box right away and installed the scanner on my computer, this is very useful scanner because i had alot of document to scan and save to my computer, i am amaze how easy to use this kind of epson scanner, very reliable work fast,it is really good for our small business and work related documents that needed to store it, this epson ES-55R small scanner but can handle every single document i really like it how this scanner works well.

I've very impressed with the Epson ES-55R scanner. It's small, but allows you to take high quality scans of documents, receipts, pictures and cards. Since I've received it, I've taken numerous scans without problems and the scans are all high resolution. It was extremely easy to set up; I simply followed the instruction sheet and within minutes I had the software up and running. I really like that scanning software comes included with the scanner so there is no need to buy it separately; this includes PDF software, which is pretty expensive on it's own. The scanner works via a plug and play method so I simply connected it to my USB port on my computer and it automatically turns on. Once you feed a page into the opening of the scanner, it keeps it secure and with one press of a button, it scans within a matter of seconds. This is a huge improvement to my previous scanner/printer combo that would take at least a minute to scan each page. I can get through 10 pages with the Epson scanner within the time it took my old scanner to scan 1 page. I also love that I can take it with me anywhere. It's about a foot long and lightweight so carrying it in a backpack is easy to do. No need to lug a huge scanner with you to work/home etc. Thus, the pros of the printer include speed, quality, ease of setup/use and portability. The only thing I would like to see improved with this scanner would be increasing the thickness of document feeding. At this moment, the scanner takes a page at a time, which for the most part is great. However, scanning thicker documents like a passport is out of the question. It simply will not fit into the opening. Perhaps having an adjustable frame that would allow for this might be something to look into in the future. That being said, the scanner does accommodate slightly thicker documents like ID cards or business cards so most documents will fit. Overall, I'm pleased with how well the Epson scanner works. The size, portability, ease of use and speed make this scanner superior to other scanners I've used. Scanning documents could not be any easier than using the Epson Workforce ES-55R scanner! As an elementary teacher, I need to hold onto receipts throughout the year for my purchases I make for my classroom materials I buy out of pocket, and scanning my receipts in through this helps me store them without fear of losing them! Once you insert your item for scan, it is an easy one button touch on device to start scan. When scan is finished, the software shows a preview and you save it. Easy peasy! I have scanned a bit thicker papers too, with no problems. This will be perfect for me wanting to save classroom projects for future use, including student work to share with family. There is software included with this that gives me options of saving my scans to Word, Excel, PP, as well as email (which I often use). It also gives me opportunity to send the file to Google Drive, Dropbox, etc..I use the Google Drive option to share documents with student families. This was great at the end of the year for me, because it was easy to share classroom end of the school year notes. There is nothing I could find wrong with this amazing little scanner! Only negative thing might be that it did not come into my life sooner! This is going to save me so much time and energy and as an elementary teacher, it will be used often! Other teachers have asked me where to get one, they are intrigued! The things I love, love, love about this are: it is compact and I can literally take it ANYWHERE, even sat in lunchroom scanning. I can use color or black and white, which is very helpful! I can scan whole page documents, or tiny receipts with ease. Scanning is fast and easy. This little document scanner from Epson is very lightweight and portable. It's small enough to fit in your purse or briefcase. It was very easy to use and the instructions were very clear. I have to keep up with receipts for business purposes and this made it a lot easier than wading them up in my purse or throwing them in a basket at the house. I was able to just plug it into my laptop and scan the receipts immediately. The software was easy to download from Epson and I was scanning within 15 minutes.I also like the fact that I can upload the receipts at the end of the year for tax purposes to TurboTax. I found that the USB cord is a little short but it's not a deal-breaker as this type of cord can be purchased in longer lengths at any retailer. When scanning receipts I noticed that they come out very clear, even the ones that were wrinkled and wadded up. if you're looking for a very lightweight portable easy-to-use document scanner I would highly recommend this

First of all, this scanner makes my life so much easier! I am very impressed by how well it scans. I love that I can take the scanner with me and easily scan papers, receipts etc. Instructions were very clear and easy to read. I usually have a hard time downloading software, but I was able to follow the instructions and download everything on my own. It scans receipts easily, you can even scan more than one, as long as you put them side by side in the scanner. I had a hard time getting the receipts to go through at first, but once I figured it out, it worked great. I sent the receipts to my boss, and ask her to clarify how they came through. She responded saying the image was GREAT, very clear! It is very portable and very easy to carry it with you. As you can see in the pictures. I am enjoying the outdoors while scanning to my laptop. The setup is easy and very self explanatory, there is a step by step install booklet which walks you through every step of setup. After setup is complete, you can go ahead and start either scanning receipts, business cards and any documents. Love this because it helps declutter your home office of all the paper clutter!!! You can also use this with quick books, turbo tax dropbox, Google drive etc. Makes searching for those uploads a breeze because you keep them organized in files you customize. Along with the scanner they also included an accounting edition software for the programs mentioned above (turbo tax). This scanner is so amazing and can not wait to finish scanning all our important documents and have them organized and safe. Fantastic, Easy to Use and Lifesaving I am completely in love with this scanner. This scanner is a lifesaver, It is easy to use, and it keeps me from having to pile up papers constantly. I can just print what I have scanned if I need to from my computer. The scanner is Lightweight, and Super portable. This scanner will even fit into most handbags or laptop bags as well. If your a woman on the go like me. I love that this scanner is just so easy to use. Just simply press the button to scan, run your document through and Wa-La you are done! After you download the software they included with it! The Epson 55-R Portable Document Scanner keeps me from having to store my tax receipts in a shoe box. It fits anywhere on my desk. I can even keep it in a drawer if i need more space. I can also scan and email images from the scanner to my mobile device. The scanner is well worth the money. It also comes with PDF Converter software which is also very valuable.Especially if you are not knowledgeable in Adobe or any software like that. Scanning documents and receipts has never been easier.Scanning is very easy. We scanned a few receipts and some documents and it went quite smooth.Works great and portable too. My husband is a small-business owner, and I'm lucky enough to be the administrator/ secretary/ record keeper/ treasurer/ accountant/ etc etc :) I was previously just using our printer-scanner duo to scan in all receipts and documents. That was time-consuming and cumbersome. This little device is fantastic. It seems too small and simple to be as amazing as it is, but it has saved me so much time and headache. Though we bought it primarily for receipts, we now use it for all documents. It scans in receipts up to SIX FEET long (try doing that with a regular scanner), in color, high quality, and the storage software that comes with the Epson is easy to use with all the features we need. You can export the data into a number of different software programs, too. All in all, 100% worth the money. Stop using the scanner you have that is an afterthought to a printer body. This little guy is so much better.

It's surprisingly small and fairly light, only about half a pound in weight, but this is a quality device meant to easily take along for working on the go, or in your home office, yet it proves extremely useful. Even though it's clearly meant for business use, a college student might also want to try out this scanner, even if they don't need all of the accounting features. It comes with all the software you need get the most out of your documents once scanned. The software from Nuance helps with versatility in editing and searching through your files. I've used Nuance before, and found this version also easy to use. The included accounting software allows for the transfer of info from receipts to other programs like Excel. I was surprised by two other things with this device- its speed in scanning and the lack of a power cord. It seems long, although not much wider than the page you're scanning, and rather narrow. The other good thing is that it doesn't require a power source or recharging. Just connect it to your computer with a USB cable, make sure you have an internet connection, and you can get started installing software and scanning. This increases the portability, since all you need is the device and a cable to take with you. You could even tuck it into a laptop bag, and add little in weight or bulk. The only thing it's missing is compatibility with mobile devices, although it does work with both Windows and Mac operating systems. Epson has made another reliable product, and I recommend this.

Small, portable, and produces a clean scan. It has been great. The drawback is that it does try to sneak in some bloatware when installing drivers to your computer. But just unclick the checkboxes or uninstall the extra software after. No big deal.
