The Epson WorkForce ES-55R portable scanner is a solid performer for it's diminutive size. I was honestly quite shocked how well this super compact device performed and how easy it was to setup. Epson went the extra mile here supplying all the necessary tools and direction to quickly configure this scanner and the Software Updater Utility is straight forward and intuitive to use. Although small, this scanner auto feeds precisely and it does it quick. Running through a series of differing document types I was amazed how clear and readable the resulting PDF's were. Speaking of PDFs, Epson includes Nuance Stanard PDF software which has all the necessary & fundamental functions more everyone will require. The EPSON Smart Scan Utility also includes the necessary integration into Quickbooks, Quicken and Turbo Tax. It was too early to give the Turbo Tax integration a test drive - being December and all - but I look forward to testing that part out in the coming New Year. Regardless, kudos to Epson for including these business/home office enhancements into the product solution. Pros: Small, quiet and precise. Excellent 600 DPI hardware resolution that keeps pace with much larger scanner products or All-in-ones. A complete set of software tools and extra 'accounting' software integration features. Easy to store in a computer bag or drawer when not in use. Simple, single-cable connectivity - as it's powered off USB. It's about as small as you can get yet feels solid and reliable in hand and in use. So in other words, it doesn't feel cheaply constructed like a toy... Cons: Absolutely none! I highly recommend the Epson WorkForce ES-55R for anyone wanting a portable scanner for home or business. Epson has a long history of providing quality scanner products over the decades and the Epson WorkForce ES-55R is no exception. It's a winner with proven pedigree.

This is one of the best portable scanners in the market. Super light and sleek. Setting up this scanner was very easy and quick, had to plug it in to the laptop and the driver and software installation kicked off immediately and the setup was completed in no time. It takes 3 seconds for a page to be scanned in a click of a button. The quality of the scan is just amazing. There aren’t both color as well as b&w options available for scans. The scanned image can be saved as jpeg or pdf and few other formats. One of the simplest and easiest scanners to use. It weighs really light, can be carried anywhere. The best part is - it does not require an external power source. Great product from Epson!

This scanner is lightweight, portable and scans a clear and complete image. I am pleased with this purchase and find it worth the 5-star rating I designated.

Works very well, and I like the small footprint it requires on my desk. Would grant 5 stars if it had a way to feed the document upwards in an upright position after scanning, as it can get caught on something behind the scanner at times. Otherwise, I would highly recommend this.

Holy smokes this little scanner is amazing! IT literally sat in a box for a year and I finally opened and started using this past weekend- it is a great little scanner and the receipt OCR function rocks! I would buy again without hesitation! Finally getting some paperwork scanned and filed that is loooong overdue :)

My first impression is so slim and small perfect for letter size doc. But I wish I would have gotten one that does multi documents.

I've used several scanners made by other brands recently including one that is portable. I must say this one beats all of the models I've used hands down. This thing is ultra-portable, lightweight and scans extremely fast. This fits in my backpack or briefcase and only needs a micro-usb cord to operate it. The other thing I really like about this scanner is the software. I used to have a Neat portable scanner and ever since they went to a subscription service for the software, I've been trying to find some software that works as well as it did. The Nuance accounting software that lets you categorize and identify the receipts. This is great for me as my wife and I have a small business and this is so much easier than saving receipts in an envelope. It is a bit expensive, but if you need something functional, portable, scans fast as had great software, this is the one to get. I would definitely recommend this.

The receipt scanner works like a charm. It organizes all my receipts so I don't have to keep looking for them all the time. I never knew a product like this existed. Makes life so much easier for accountants and small businesses.

The software so far has had very high accuracy. Filing receipts has been very easy. The only complaint I have had is that even though I checked not to automatically number receipts it still adds number count to receipt name.

I love having this printer readily available to scan all my receipts because I have a tendancy to always misplace them. I come home after shopping and scan my receipts and the printer has a feature that extracts the data and uploads it to a spreadsheet. This portable printer has the ability to recognize and extract data from receipts and uploads them to the included accounting software so you can expense your purchases. It also features the common scanning features that you find with a large scanner. You can easily scan, review and save important files. Its scans very fast and is extremely portable. I bring this with me on business trips just in case a copier or printer is not available. Its powered through USB connection. I use it to scan business cards, receipts and quick document scans. If you are looking for a portable scanner this is a must buy.

Having copies of receipts are important when running a business. Originally I had a printer but the scanner wont work without ink. Stupid I know. So purchasing this was a better option.

Elegant and compact scanner which is easy to use. This WorkForce ES-55R Portable Document Scanner is really easy to set-up. It comes in handy with someone has to travel for business purposes as this can do some great things like data extraction from the receipts for accounting purposes. The scanner software allows to scan easily and save the documents in the required format for e.g. searchable PDFs, editable Word & Excel files. It does scan the small size paper equally well as the regular size ones. The other important thing is that it neither needs power nor batteries to work, simply connect it to the computer using the USB port. It accurately recognizes text,and gives good looking results.It is fast and scans quickly in matter of seconds. Overall this elegant, extremely fast and lightweight scanner make my work easier and faster.It make it easy for me to scan the document, upload and it helps to organize receipts, financial documents and much more. The scanning quality is good and can scan in color too. This makes the on-the-go scanning very easy and comfortable. All in all I love this portable scanner and I would recommend this to everyone because of its quality, accuracy and fast scanning speed. The Epson WorkForce ES-55R Portable Color Document Scanner is just that - it's very small so it is very portable (and it's USB powered), and it's a speedy color scanner for page-sized documents and for receipts. This isn't designed to preserve photographs. It's a littler shorter and flatter than a cardboard roll from paper towels. And it operates very simply - load your document and press a button - the scanner then opens the scan in Epson's software for you to act on (save). But it also operates surprisingly fast as well - a whole page takes about 5 seconds to scan at 600 dpi. So the scanner together with Epson's software are both highly recommended. But the added bonus here is a license for Nuance Power PDF (Windows) or Nuance PDF Converter for Mac (Mac). The interface for the software is a little daunting for the uninitiated - it's a suite of PDF tools and when I saved the scan from a page of promotional information for this scanner as a MS Word file I was momentarily unimpressed because I didn't really see that anything had happened - then I realized that it had taken my scan into an impressive Word file and matched the fonts and formatting so aggressively that I wasn't immediately aware that anything had happened at all. So I think that the inclusion of this software is a huge extra selling point. The software had a much rougher time with a receipt that I scanned -but it pulled about 90% of the information (characters and fonts) off a receipt that was aged and damaged. Without the tools to extract information from your documents and receipts, I don't know why it would be desirable to have a scanner like this. And as compact as this model is and as well as it performs, it really isn't useful without the right software tools - bravo for getting that in the package here. Can't recommend highly enough!
