PROs: - About the size of a large stapler--easily packs away in a trade show bag, briefcase or backpack and doesn't need much room on a desk, shelf, or table when not in use - Rechargeable--leave your cables behind for that long trip; auto-off also saves battery capacity while the LCD readout makes it easy to tell how much juice is left - Works with your tablet/PC via USB, wirelessly over your existing WiFi network, or scan from it via WiFi direct using its own SSID (there is also an Epson Android and iOS app for even more wireless scanning options) - ScanSmart Accounting Edition provides its own fairly user-friendly receipt manager application that saves a scan/image by creation date w/ a series of even more editable fields (retrieved reasonably successfully via OCR from the receipt/document itself) that give additional data for transaction date, vendor, currency, bill amount, tip, tax, totals, tax categorization, totally customizable classifiers and sub-classifiers (e.g. "Business" - Meals" or "Business - Travel"), and pay method--along with filters for whether the receipt has been reviewed or exported to your finance program of choice (QuickBooks, TurboTax, or Quicken)…WHEW! - ScanSmart interface also has wide array of scan actions that include simple image/file save, e-mail attachment, save to Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, or Evernote, image printing, and OCR’d editable exports to MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint - There is a key included for Nuance Power PDF to add additional scanning/workflow options (though my own copy of Acrobat Pro instantly recognized the scanner for PDF capture/creation) - Yes, you can simply “scan and go,” but there are multiple setting options for auto-configs, or manual for B&W, color, DPI settings from 75 all the way up to 1200, automatic feeding mode, document size, and corrections for paper rotation, feeding skew, and a host of advanced options for removing the background images, text enhancement, brightness, contrast, gamma, various image filters, and more adjustments for filling in ragged/blank scan edges and even removing signs of hole punches - Scanning is brisk—4-5 seconds per sheet whether in B&W or color—and results were clear and appeared free of smudges, digital noise, or scan lines CONS: - The recessed mini USB port has small teeth protruding out of the walls to help achieve an ultra-secure grip on the cable. While this makes desktop use via USB far less prone to accidental cord removal as you wave the scanner around, the side tolerances with the included cable are so tight that it took me more than 5 minutes of nearly plastic-cracking force to finally get the cable seated...hopefully things will get easier down the road, but for the moment, it makes hookup for charging or WiFi configuration on different networks far more difficult than it needs to be - Not really Epson’s fault given that the unit has no keyboard or large display, but be aware that this scanner can operate remotely on another WiFi network (i.e. scanning your receipts at the kitchen table to a PC that’s in the office on the other side of the house) only if the network is completely unprotected or needs just an SSID and key/passphrase. If your work, guest, or home network also has a login page, there is no way to authenticate to the page itself so you can only use the scanner via USB or wireless direct when you’re within range - Obviously you benefit from Epson’s included license for Nuance Power PDF if you need a way to create or OCR editable PDFs using the scanner; but with so many other “scan actions” available (see PROs above), it would have been nice for that large screen of options to also include a simple “Save to Acrobat,” especially given Adobe's prominence when it comes to all things PDFs (but that could just be me) - It’s a nice, reasonably solid feeling unit--but it also has a relatively easy-to-activate push-button for scanning and wide-open slits (RE: dirt and dust accumulation) on both sides for the document feeders/rollers—would it have been THAT hard to include a simple vinyl cover just to provide a little protection when packed or on the go? - The document feeder rollers were sometimes a bit hit or miss in how well they grabbed/held the paper prior to hitting the scan button. What was maddening is that I could hear them reassuringly engage and seemingly “grab” the paper at the point of resistance, but at least 30%-40% of the time I would still need to give the paper a little extra push to get it started through the feeder mechanism because the paper would just sit there after the rollers were endlessly spinning - Don’t let its small size fool you…you still need enough clearance to both feed the papers in at the front and let them settle/feed out the back-end one at a time; I actually had to clear off a substantial amount of desk space to actually operate the thing (see my review image)! - Sadly, there are still a few specialized items in the box (a specially cut/printed optical calibration card and what looks like a thin strip of Tyvek material for cleaning) you will have to figure out where to store and then remember WAY later where you put them because you're going to need them again at some point Summary review: The thing about a non-photo scanner like this is that it’s usually just as much, if often not more, about the software than it is the hardware given that the intended use case is relatively specialized—document and receipt scanning and management. So does the hardware pass muster? I can say that it definitely delivers on what Epson purports it to: ultra-portable, reasonably quick, high quality color and black-and-white scans for papers and receipts. On the software side, you also get a pretty powerful alternative to Adobe’s pro version of Acrobat, and the included scanning utilities provide integration with many popular cloud- and client-based productivity and file-management applications and a healthy dose of scanning/image quality options to suit your needs. No, I wouldn’t use this scanner to digitize boxes and boxes of cherished family photos (though at 600 DPI optical, you can get some pretty detailed/massively large files onto your computer to work with, if that’s what you’re after). But that’s not what this unit is for either—heck, you can’t even scan a book open-faced as it’s limited to single, sheet-feed scanning only. But what you do get fills its specific niche quite well, especially if you have scanning needs while you travel, have limited desk/shelf space, or simply find yourself wanting to scan papers and receipts without needing being tethered to a PC to do it. For those of you who care, the interface is limited to USB 2.0 or wireless b/g/n (no ac)…however, in practice, I did not notice any significant lag in rendering a color or black-and-white scan back at my client PC, even with larger paper sizes. USB, WiFi, and WiFi direct connect options definitely increase flexibility of usage scenarios. Nevertheless, Bluetooth would have been a welcome connectivity alternative if only because using WiFi direct means you have to temporarily change WiFi network access points on your client (and therefore lose all other network/Internet access) while you’re using the scanner…but those are otherwise small nits to pick on an otherwise very solid unit. Seems to be a good buy for the money—at least out of the gate!

I was very excited to get this scanner this thing is awesome! I have never owned an actual scanner and I really need one For one, it is portable! I don't have to sit in one place and scan. I can take it with me! And since I’m a mom in on the go all the time It is really compact, as you can see in the photo, the whole packaging is no wider than my laptop and when you do unpackage it - it is so small! Don't let that throw you off though because this thing can scan super quick and looks really good! I really wanted this to be able to scan all of the recipes I have collected over the years and finally put them in one place but I hate sitting at my scanner to do it. This comes with the USB charger cable, connects to my WiFi and can scan into a variety of places like Google Drive, Evernote, OneNote, etc. This is EXACTLY what I wanted! It also has an app so buy any mean if you got get your laptop as long as you down loaded the app your good to go and you can scan anywhere Now I can scan in what I want, from where I want and get rid of all the shoe boxes of recipes - or actually use them! Being so compact, it is easy to store and easy to take with me Now that I have told you all the wounderful things I love i love about this I will also say that I did have to figure a few things out. The set-up and installation of the drivers was a little long hard for me because my wi-Fi was being super slow and the program took a little longer to load that I expect it. But I’m glad it come in with the whole program and the cable and all the instructions What Took me but suprise was it scans through pretty quick. The software allows you to see the images and remove pages and re-scan though, so after a couple tries, I was moving right along! It does scan full color and it even has software to help with separating receipts and stuff, which I did play around with and it’s very easy you just need to get the hang of once your done it put your data in a speed sheet like what more could you want I actually even showed my mom and family members and they were so excited they are willing to buy it but I do feel like this scanner is more for like small business or your house hold if you are looking to buy one and you have like a we’ll expand business I feel like you will probably need the bigger once that Espon have but buy all mean I’m very pleased with how great this scanner it’s and how it going to change my whole life from all of my documents. Light, portable, fast at a cost

The Epson WorkForce ES-65WR Wireless Portable Document Scanner is certainly fast, small and light. It is fully mobile with a built in battery and the ability to connect via USB or wireless to a PC or Mac or to an iOS or Android device. On a computer the Epson Scansmart Accounting Edition software makes it easy to scan anything up to 8.5” wide and 72” long and save in various formats such as JPG, PDF or Microsoft Office formats like .docx and .pptx. You can also send them directly to online services like Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive and Evernote. There is also a built in receipt manager that uses optical character recognition (OCR) to identify key aspects so that the data can be exported to other applications like Quickbooks, Quicken, Turbotax and a basic CSV file. This is convenient if you have a lot of receipts to file for taxes or business. For the mobile app it is basic scan in PDF or JPG and it saves the files to the device. It also gives some settings options such as cleaning, calibration and power off timers. Nuance Power PDF Standard is also included and provides a decent alternative to Adobe. It has pretty much all the same functions as Adobe, such as OCR, editing, signatures and forms. The application has a very similar layout as most Office applications so it is easy to use. With all that said though, I found this little scanner a little frustrating at times. It is quick, but at a cost. The default setting for scan is 200 dpi which is good to clear black/white text. However, if the characters are complex or you want image clarity, you have to increase the dpi settings. If you change only the resolution, it will give a “Reduce the resolution” error till you realize that the default Document size of “Auto Detect (Long Page)” has to be changed to get the better resolution. This of course then makes the scanner slower, but still reasonable. With it at the lower resolution and being fast I also found the majority of my scans would come out crooked. No matter how much I tried to get them in there straight, one edge always seemed to be off. I think a simple pop-out edge piece would have helped that a lot. When inserting a document, there is a sensor that detects you have inserted a document which turns the page feeder ever so slightly to grab the document. However, if you aren’t moving at the speed it wants you to, it will not grab it, taking a couple tries, especially if you realized it grabbed one corner before the other. With small flimsy paper receipts this became a game of “is it grabbing it now.” As for the software, the OCR was fair, but really makes you question what it was trying to make out, especially if images are involved, like the logo on many receipts. The receipt manager attempts to find the name of the company, but logos and websites throw it off everytime. It does manage to grab the total, tax and payment method fairly well. However, the rest is manually entered or if you wanted to itemize the receipt, you have to use a different format. Bottom line, if you need something that is easily packed in a briefcase and doesn’t need to be connected to a PC for simple scanning, this is a decent option. However, if you want straighter scans I’d look for something with at least a folding document guide.

    Small Yet Powerful

I received the Epson WorkForce ES-65 WR Receipt & Document Scanner. It was packaged well and easy to open, unlike some other brands that make it difficult. The scanner is lightweight and small enough to fit in my purse for on-the-go use. The instructions to set-up and use are clear and easy to understand. There was only one download that included all drivers and utilities for the scanner. This is a huge bonus for me. Once installed, set-up was a breeze. There were no software or hardware issues. Charging the battery did not take long at all, either. For me, there have been no cons so far. I am very pleased with this product. It is super easy to use on both the desktop and my mobile phone. Both devices had the document scanned and ready to view in a matter of seconds. If you are the type of person who travels for work and does a lot of scanning or you just want a powerful, compact, and quick machine to do the job, this is the product to use! I do not have an accounting software set-up at the moment, but I look forward to it in the near future! For now, I will enjoy it for all of my scanning needs. I have a large scanner, so I know what you can do with scanners but this thing is awesome! For one, it is portable! I don't have to sit in one place and scan. I can take it with me! This comes with the USB charger cable, connects to my WiFi and can scan into a variety of places like Google Drive, Evernote, OneNote, etc. This is EXACTLY what I wanted! Now I can scan in what I want, from where I want and maybe get rid of this box of recipes - or actually use them! Being so compact, it is easy to store and easy to take with me with my laptop. Win-win! Now that I have boasted how much I love it, I will also say that I did have to figure a few things out. The set-up and installation of the drivers was super easy. What got me was the different paper types and how they scan. As this is more compact, it does need room to let the paper go through and it scans through pretty quick so if you try to straighten a glossy type page - well you just smeared the writing on the image. The software allows you to see the images and remove pages and re-scan though, so after a couple tries, I was moving right along! It does scan full color and it even has software to help with separating receipts and stuff, which I have not tried - but I am kind of interested in! Maybe that will be my next project! So my review is easy to sum up the device because I just purchased a new home which requires tracking lots of paperwork and receipts! I was in awe to find out it scanned wireless! I have literally sat in my car, scanned a receipt in the parking lot and sorted it to a home folder so that I could not have to worry about my receipt. The scanner can be wired to a computer or wireless and the computer and phone are detected on the scanner. The Epson software is dated but I anticipate that Epson will step their game up. This scanner is about the size of candy bar and the length of a ruler. I know it is passed the holidays but for the person on the go or students this is a cool gift that no one would expect would be so useful! Last night I was able to watch tv on the couch while sorting paperwork on my lap and using my phone to scan them! I feel super excited about a tool like this but I am excited about what people dream up to make life so easy.

    Very Portable

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Its light weight and small size (see pictures) make the ES-65WR extremely portable. It is useful to be able to bring it to another room and scan whatever you need to. The scanning quality is decent, but limited to 300 dpi in the mobile app. For me, this is enough for documents and receipts, but don't expect super high quality from such a small device. Setup was fairly straightforward using the app, but make sure to use a 2.4ghz wifi network when setting up AP mode; when I tried to choose my 5ghz network, it couldn't connect but didn't give me any errors. In the Android app, you can choose all the settings which will be saved for the next time. I recommend using the "auto" size because if the feeder doesn't catch at first, you'll have black sections at the top. As mentioned, the quality is acceptable for its intended use, and you can choose between PDF and JPEG (see attached picture of my daughter's drawing) scanning in the app. I am really only interested in using this with the Android app, but I did try it on a PC, and setup was fairly straightfoward once I found the right file to install online. FYI, during setup, it will ask you if you want to download the Nuance PDF app for the OCR feature. Once you use Nuance the first time, it will ask you for the serial number included in the box. I tried it on one receipt and was somewhat impressed, but it did miss the leading number in the amount. Overall I deducted 1 star because I think the price is a little too high, and I would like additional features such as duplex scanning, and scanning to a network folder without the use of an app or PC. One other thing I disliked is the microusb cable needs to have a very small head or it won't fit in the scanner; the one that comes with it is fine, but none of my existing ones fit. Great Small Scanner for on the Go

Epson Workforce ES-65WR Wireless Receipt & Document Scanner The Epson Workforce ES-65WR Wireless Portable Color Receipt & Document is an excellent product for capturing documents for a person on the go and in small spaces. The scanner is small enough to fit in most briefcases or tote bags along with your tablet or laptop. The scanners is wireless scan, rechargeable, scan multiple sheets, searchable PDF’s, editable files and exportability are some of the great features. It’s small but it packs a punch of conveniences. I have a few of small businesses that I run out of my home. With these businesses I have documents that I need to scan immediately. It is nice have a scanner that I can move around and carry along to scan as I go. This makes organizing and planning a lot more convenient and less cumbersome. The small size, wireless ability and chargeable battery makes this a hit for my needs. Pros: • Portability and Rechargeable – less than 1 pound • LCD Status Screen • Battery Powered and MicroUSB Chargeable • Great scan speed • Scan via Wi-Fi or wired • Scan quality – 300dpi mobile and up to 1200dpi desktop • Scan Size – 8.5” x 72” • Scan - Color or Black & White • Optical Character Recognition (OCR) via the Computer application (unavailable for Mobile) to convert scans into searchable text (PDF, Word, Excel) • Multiple users can use the scanner • Export – Quickbooks, Turbotax, Quicken, Excel, Dropbox, Google Drive, Tablets, Smartphones and more Cons: • No automatic document feed • Limited capabilities in the mobile application. Most document manipulation has to be completed in the desktop application. • Mobile scan resolution limited to 300dpi • OCR (scan to searchable text) not available; Can save to searchable PDF • Some difficulty connecting to Wi-Fi The convenience the Epson Workforce ES-65WR Wireless Portable Color Receipt & Document, small scanner, provide far outweigh any of the cons. Great little invention

My first impression of the ES-65WR Wireless Portable Document Scanner was great. It was packaged good and neatly placed in the box along with the USB cord, instructions, serial number card, calibration and cleaning pieces. You need to plug the USB power cord into your computer and allow it to charge before setting it up. After charging I followed the instructions for setting up which were fairly easy. It did take some time for loading the software and just waiting for next steps but was overall pretty easy to do. If you've set up printers or other similar products before, it's similar to that. However the problem I came across first was the network setup. You must use a 2.4GHz, not 5GHz connection. Once I fixed that the only other problem I had was with the registration of the product. The card with the paperwork that has a serial number on it is NOT for the product. It is for the Nuance software that you must update after. To find your product model and SN of the product you need to look on the bottom side of it and all the info you need is there. It took me some time to figure out why the serial number I was entered kept saying it was incorrect. It functions great and scans documents quickly. I have not had any get jammed yet. I installed the app on my phone and it was very easy to scan documents to that. Be aware that it does take a minute or two to scan documents to your computer because when you press the scan button, a screen will come up and you'll need to choose your options and then save your file once the scan is complete. I scanned over 30 documents so far to my phone and computer and I must say I am happier than I expected. Other than the few bumps I had with setup it's a very easy product to use and it's been so helpful to be able to throw out some unneeded documents that I can now store on my computer instead. You can also unplug the USB cord (only when it's charged) and use it wherever you'd like with the wireless feature. I did find that the battery does not last very long though if your continuously scanning documents so keep in mind it will need to be plugged back in. I had a small problem with the quality of the writing I scanned so I used the calibration sheet. It was simple to do, just look up the user manual program that was installed on your computer and go to cleaning and there will be a link for calibrating it if any problems seem to arise. It did fix the problem and the calibration sheet can be reused so don't throw it out. Since this is not the type of scanner that can just continuously keep scanning, I would not recommend it for huge piles of endless documents, but I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to scan documents at home in a casual manner. I would say my overall experience was amazing. This scanner is so small and does not take up alot of space. It is very easy to hook up and connect to my laptop. It is also amazing, because I tend to do work at home and my office, so I can pack up this thing and take it anywhere! Very durable and the picture is crispy clean when I scan it onto my laptop. I scanned my ids to paper documents, no problem went through with a breeze. Also, was able to connect my phone to it and my children's tablets. Unable to get WiFi Scan Working

The Epson 65WR has a lot of promise. Wireless, battery powered, light, and portable. It's truly a portable scanner in size (see photo). I am only give it 1/5 stars because there are too many issues and the Epson 65WR doesn't deliver on the promise of wireless scanning. Unfortunately it doesn't work as described. Over 2 hours trying to do it myself. I even called Epson's US technical support line. Epson's technical support for scanners isn't very good or helpful. Over 1 hour on the phone to them and they seemed to know nothing about the product or tech support (explaining to me that the printer won't connect to an iPad via USB... well yes, true, but I am using an iPhone and trying to connect a scanner via direct WiFi) iPHONE - SCANNING (DOES NOT WORK) On iOS you connect (in theory) via the Epson Document Scan app, by connecting your phone direct to the Epson 65WR SSID and entering the password. I had no problem with that step, but the Epson Document Scan software refused to ever find the scanner until I stopped following the instructions and tech support advice. I have not been able to scan from my phone. Here's how to connect it to your phone. 1. Install Epson Document Scan. 2. Open the software, accept all the terms and conditions. Click Cancel when it asks you to setup. Close the app. 3. Disconnect/Forget your existing WiFi network. (next steps do fast, as the scanner will auto time-out/turn off WiFi if you are slow) 4. Turn on Epson ES65WR, Turn on Epson ES65WR WiFi 5. Connect to the SSID of the scanner. 6. Open the Document Scan App a. Click on the little picture of the scanner (bottom left) b. Click search for scanners. c. With luck the scanner will appear and become "registered" (If step 6 fails, check that your phone is still connected to the ES65WR SSID and the scanner WiFi is still on) 7. This is where everything just fails for me. The phone would never scan anything. The Epson Document Scan crashes and you have to force close the app. Hopefully you have more luck and the above steps get you closer to being able to scan from your iPhone. For me, the app just times out. FYI. There's no reference to the ES65WR in the app. Which could be "part" of the problem. But the Epson Document Scan average rating of 2/5 on iTunes with complaints of "buggy" and "someone update this app" tell a fair story. Worst.Software.Ever. WINDOWS 10 SCANNING - VIA USB Side note. If you're running Windows 10 S, you won't be able to use this scanner on your computer. As the Epson software is not available on the Microsoft Store. On normal Windows 10, it's easy. Installing the software from Epson's website is straight forward and it's nice the scanner charges via USB. The first time I connected it to my PC there was a scanner firmware update. It installed without an issue (but didn't solve my mobile issue). If you use the "scan" button on the scanner, Windows prompts you with "which software should I use" box. You can't seem to pick a default (possibly Microsoft's fault, not Epsons). Scan quality is OK for a portable scanner. 1 sheet at a time, Scanner front loads. Scan side face up. If the paper isn't perfectly flat, like if it has a fold, it can catch or go askew when scanning. This is a trade off on a portable scanner. As a portable USB scanner the ES65WR works as described, but I really think if you were taking this on the road you'd want to just use this with your phone or tablet. WOULD I RECOMMEND The Epson ES 65WR doesn't deliver on the promise. I would not recommend it purely because it just does not work as a portable wireless scanner. Does it work as a scanner, yes. But if you're going to scan via USB connected to your computer there are better options out there.

After installing the driver software and included PDF/OCR/File manager software, (video here: https://youtu.be/JYJ2N-V8pqE ) the EPSON lightweight portable scanner worked quickly and effortlessly. I scanned a stack of business cards that piled up on my desk in a matter of minutes. Features I like: Rechargeable via included USB cable Transfers either through USB cable, WiFI network or direct WiFi to cell phone or tablet FULL 8.5" wide page scanning up to 27" long Selectable color, BW, greyscale and different DPI Exports to PDFs, WORD, and other common file types with built in OCR capabilities OCR software worked very well with scanner Especially great for my expense report, receipt scanning Easy to understand and reach ON/OFF switch, push to scan button I am a big fan of the included PaperPort software for file storage and viewing. FITS easily in my PC case. If you are looking for an to-go scanner this one is great! Included a special cleaning sheet and calibration sheet. The included quick guide made first use simple too.

I've been very impressed with this Epson scanner. I love that it's so small and easy to move out of the way or store in my drawer. I mainly use it to scan receipts for our taxes. It does the job just fine. From tiny receipts to those super long ones it scans fairly clear and very quick.

This scanner is very small and light. Although I expected it to be small, I was still surprised by exactly how small and lightweight it is. This is perfect for commuting because it very easily slips into a bag, briefcase or even a large purse. The scanner has a bright vivid backlit LCD display that shows wireless status as well as the battery meter. The scanner can connect to a computer via a WiFi network or a direct WiFi connection. It can also connect via the included micro-USB cable which also charges the battery via a USB port. It completely charges from a fully drained state in about an hour. Infrastructure WiFi setup has to be completed during software installation. If not, the only way to configure infrastructure WiFi is completing the software setup again. WiFi also only works on a 2.4GHz band. This initially posed a problem for me because the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands weren’t separate in my router. The scanner could not initially see the SSID at all. I had to separate the two bands before it could see the 2.4GHz frequency and I could complete setup. Scanning is fast and scan quality is good whether scanning over USB or wireless. documents feed through the slot pretty quickly, taking mere seconds to scan a letter-sized document. Documents are automatically fed through the front slot and ejected out the rear, so sufficient clearance is necessary in the front and back during scanning. Larger documents scan more reliably through the feeder than smaller documents like receipts. When scanning receipts, I have to feed them very carefully because they can very easily travel out of alignment and jam or mess up the scan job. Scanning can be invoked via the scan button on top of the scanner or through the software. The software bundle includes Epson Scan, Epson Receipt Manager and Nuance PDF Converter. Receipt Manager and Nuance PDF Converter are by far the best of the bunch. Receipt Manager is great for business or home use. It allows me to scan receipts, catalog them and add notes. The data can be exported to Quickbooks, Quicken, Turbotax, CSV or an image file. Receipts remain in the catalog after scanning and are available for export until deleted from the receipt manager. Nuance PDF Converter is a nice full-featured PDF creation and editing program. Although not as robust as programs like Adobe Acrobat, it has more than enough features to satisfy most users. This little scanner is very convenient, especially for mobile users. It’s small, light and has very fast and good scanning performance. The built-in battery allows full wireless use which is good if scanning on the go. The software bundle is pretty good and actually quite useful. My only complaints are that the scanner isn't the most reliable at scanning smaller documents and doesn't appear to be compatible with the Epson Scan iOS/Android app. It would also be nice if some type of case were included for transporting the device because the form factor doesn't make it the easiest item to find a case for. Aside from these few cons, it does a fantastic job for such a tiny device.

Use it for a commercial truck on the road to send invoices using mobile phone. Works excellent. What they don't tell you is in order to scan on your phone is that you must turn off your mobile data but other than that it works great and scans turn out flawless.
