    Money Saving Product

Set up took about 30 minutes - 20 minutes of which was the printer collaborating the ink tanks. I had just gotten rid of my $50 Hp printer and the only major difference between their versatility is that the Epson is wireless and more economical in printing. It honestly should not cost $300, but paying such a high price while compensating on the price of paying for ink cartridges every other month does save you money in the long run. I tried the AirPrint feature from my iPhone and it worked flawlessly. It's a great product, I rated it 4 stars because of the high price.

    Great Printer

I bought this printer to replace my HP ink drinker. The reasons I like this printer are 1. It uses ink from ink bottles that you get way more out of than the annoying cartridges. 2. The ink goes a lot farther. 3. Set-up was an absolute breeze. No problems at all. 4. The wireless wifi works great. I am able to print directly from my mobile apple devices or from my toshiba lap top. Only complaint I have was the sales rep at Best Buy was clueless. He suggested I purchase another hp because they print clearer than other printers. And when I said I had decided on the Epson that uses ink bottles he had no idea they existed.

Not a very high quality printer

This printer is fairly inexpensive and I think it shows. I bought it last year (2015) and have not used it extensively (169 pages), so it is pretty new. As soon as I first used it to make a copy off of the flatbed, I realized that the colors were not at all true to the original. I was incredibly disappointed because I specifically bought the printer to reproduce some of my artwork at home for small projects. That was never going to happen now. The display screen and the functions have been dumbed down to such a level that they are no longer intuitive. Very frustrating. The scanner does an excellent job of capturing the image (after you try every possible setting to find the best one for your project) but the quality is not captured in the PDF, JPG, TIFF, etc. That end result is of such poor quality that it has not been usable for my purposes. The latest thing is stripes running either vertically or hortizontally on my printed images. I have checked the nozzle, aligned the printhead, cleaned the printhead...everything that I could do with the limited settings. Still, the prints come out with thin white pin-stripes in one direction or the other. This printer is fine for someone who doesn't need high quality output but does make a large number of copies (especially just text documents). The large ink wells do seem to be rather economical and eco-friendly (which was another selling for me). I have not had any printing issues (white pin-stripes) on purely text documents. Also you should know that the machine is very slow, particularly in producing copies. So many people on here seem to like this printer that I wonder if I just got the bad one in a pretty good bunch. I will never know because I will not buy this model (or probably another Epson) ever again. I have always been an HP or Dell person and will return to those brands in the future.

I used to have an HP printer. It was good but it was like drinking the ink. I have this epson printer for 8 months already and I'm very satisfied with what I'm saving money with the ink. The photo quality is good. The only downside is it that you can't print on both sides. It doesn't have the duplex scan and print function. The printer cost more than the other printer, but it is worth it with the money I'm saving for the ink. 8months and the ink is just below the line. Definitely worth it!

OK for documents printing but not photos or copies

My old printer of 6 years had just died and I needed to print a lot of documents and made copies in the near future. I knew that I was fed up of buying new ink cartridges every other months because they dry up rather quick. I was seriously looking at laser printers. The ink toner would last a long time and it will satisfy a lot of my needs as a almost all of my printouts were just black and white and all the copies would still be in color digitally, unless I need to make a printout of it. But we ended up choosing the Epson EcoTank 2550 due to the small footprint and the eco tank capability. I love the setup, configuration, print speed, and also the ink capacity. These are the caveats (quite annoying) I've seen about this printer are: 1. Copies always print with a border. So an 8 1/2 x 11 copy will be resized smaller as it will print with a border, and so on, and so on. 2. Photos also print with a border. Although I have only print on 4x6 and 5x7 photo papers. 3. Scanned documents are saved with a border as well 4. The Epson iPrint app does not allow you to export scanned documents that are saved within the application Thus the two stars dock. I will absolutely recommend this printer to anyone who doesn't care much about photo printing nor scanning/copying images or documents and ending up with borders.

I own an invitation and paper company and while I outsource my large quantity invitations, I am always turning to my ET-2550 for smaller sign and card prints. I own 5 printers and this printer out does them all. The quality is better them my artisan 1430 and the ink lasts forever. Best printer purchase I have ever made!

    Ink last a long time

The printer work well and the ink last a long time. You may pay more up front but you will say money in the long run when your night buying ink all the time. My wife is a teacher and prints a lot of stuff at home. It is amazing how much longer the ink last in this printer.

    Slooooow!

I had to replace a HP 8600 which my company owned and paid for the ink that I used, so naturally, now that I'm paying, I demand cheap ink! I also have a older HP 6210 and when I priced the cartridge for just to get it to work it was over $68.00! I've had Epson printers in the past and never had any issues with them. As a matter of fact I used to refill the cartridges up when I was printing up newsletters for my wife's business. My HP would spit out page after page at over 20 per minute and do two sides at about half that speed. It also had fax capabilities, which the Epson ET 2550 doesn't. But I would have to buy cartridges at least twice a year, and the XL versions were expensive. Even with corporate discount at Office Depot, it would cost well over $100 a pop, so roughly $200 a year, and that was printing in draft mode most of the time. This printer prints at less than half the speed of a regular inkjet, and cost up to four times as much. Granted, you will receive a pay back in a little over 3 years, just on the cost of ink. It seems that if Epson really wanted to dominate the market, they could have at least matched the speed of their regular inkjet printers, even at the higher cost of the Eco tank. Print quality is acceptable, not being extremely good, nor extremely bad. The scan feature does work faster and quieter than the HP units. Not having a fax is a bummer, but in these times you can scan an e-mail just as well. With the money you save on ink, you can print at a higher resolution, so the documents look better. You will save money in the long term, but how much money is your time worth?

I was excited with the ecotank concept. The idea of refilling the toner myself seemed like a great idea for many reasons. Unfortunately, Epson put this concept into their very cheapest printer. I could not get this machine to print a color document or photo without stripes through it no matter what I tried. I returned the printer and bought a much cheaper one that I know will work up to Epson standards.

    Great, except for...

The savings on ink refills were a major plus for me...and that part was great. I was so enthused that I bought a printer for me and for my wife. Then we both started having issues. For her, it was the wifi instability. We have had a LOT of issues with this. Her laptops (two different ones) would be fine for a while and then they would stop talking to the printer. It took a LOT of wrangling to figure it all out and the fix was never permanent. BIG headache. For me, it's been print quality. Since you cannot easily access the print head, you cannot simply use a damp cloth to clear the accumulated dusk and smeared ink. The nozzle cleaning feature is a real frustration. Each time I'd print a new nozzle check, different sections of the test print grid would be missing! I LITERALLY (not figuratively) would run 5 head cleanings (which seems like it takes forever when you're waiting on it) and that would not fix the issue. If I printed on high quality every time, I'd usually get decent results. Then came tonight. Paper jam error with no paper jam. I spent 90 minutes unsuccessfully figuring out the issue. I could not get the work done that I needed to because I was messing with this stupid printer. Buying something new tomorrow. Oh, and if you need card stock printed, this printer cannot handle it, so beware. I would definitely not recommend this printer.

I read great reviews of this printer before I bought it. It was expensive but I print a lot so the savings in ink value seemed worth it. But sadly, I'm disappointed. It quite frequently prints poorly, horizontal lines through print and pictures. I constantly have go through the process of cleaning the print heads etc... The ink does seem to last a long time but for the amount of time I spend cleaning the thing and the paper wasted I am not sure it's worth it. I will likely purchase a laser printer and use this one only for color printing.

    Poor quality for $$$

No reviews were available when I purchased this printer. I liked the eco-friendly ink tanks as well as the lower ink costs. Installation was easy until it took 3 tries to establish wireless connectivity. The next morning the computer didn't recognize the printer. Software had to be reinstalled again to correct problem. The clincher was the poor quality printing and scanning. My $50 HP does a much better job. I expected much more from a $400 printer. Returned it and will avoid Epson brands in the future. Bought an HP Officejet Pro 8610 on sale for $80 and it totally out performs the Epson.

    Low dpi for photos

I bought my first Epson printer about 20 years ago (stylus) and it was 1440dpi which is great for photos. This printer is a maximum 720dpi and it takes a bit of digging in the settings to find it. A full page print from a 20 megapixel photo will throw away pixels according to the print preview.

    Don't Buy This Printer

I was able to print a whole 205 pages before the printer heads became so clogged that it became unusable. The utilities won't work either. Don't listen to the commercials where they say it comes with 18 months of ink. It only comes with 18 months of ink because the printer won't work and you eventually throw it away. So I guess there is truth in advertising, it comes with 18 months worth of ink.
