Outstanding scanner!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a review for the Epson FastFoto 640 that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review. Simply put, I love this scanner! We have boxes and envelopes of photos, some of which are from our grandparents and are somewhat damaged, that I have been intending on scanning to create digital copies. I have a flatbed scanner that I have scanned some, but it is a slow, tedious process. This scanner couldn’t make the job easier! The user interface has been well thought out and implemented in a clear, easy to use manner. The initial installation and setup was quick and easy – just a couple steps to follow and it was up and running. The save feature allows you to automatically create separate folders based on your naming convention, and allows the month/year, and/or season, and/or ‘title’ to be used to name the folder and each individual picture, which also has a sequential number added. I love the ‘quick fix’ feature where the software will automatically ‘fix’ the picture while it is processing and saving it, along with the original scanned version. Scans can also include both sides if there is writing on the back of a photo. During the first sitting, I quickly scanned an entire (shoe) box of photos. Because my wife had already grouped the photos into related groups, I could use her divider titles to label the scanned photos so we could quickly locate them. Scanning couldn’t be easier. Although speed is important, quality is also critical. The digital photos as displayed on my screen looked great. Even scanning wallet size originals looked good. I took a sample of three photos from different scan groups and sent them in to be printed, then compared to the originals. I was very pleased to have a tough time telling which was the original and which was the copy. I used the auto-corrected version to print, and they looked great. I did jam the scanner on a couple occasions, although it was due to small, odd shaped prints that were in the middle of the stacks. The jams were extremely easy to take care of – press one button and the front opens, remove the print and close it back up. A quick mouse click and scanning resumes. The scanner includes a clear sheet protector to facilitate feeding old or damaged photos, which works great. I did run some speed tests. I scanned a stack of 20 photos, mostly 4x6, in 50.75 seconds from the time I hit “Scan”. There was an additional minute 24 seconds for processing and saving the photos. Another stack of 24 scanned in 1 min 02 seconds plus one minute 21 seconds processing and saving. 35 photos scanned in one minute 31 seconds (plus processing and saving). Pros: Very easy and quick to set up, Very easy to use User Interface, Auto numbering and file labeling, auto feeder handled 35-40 photos at a time, double sided scanning, auto correcting (saving both versions), excellent quality scans (at 600 dpi), compact, fun to use. Cons: I no longer have an excuse why I can’t get all the photos scanned (but I’ve already done multiple boxes now!)

Great scanner
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I received this scanner and I was very impressed just after opening the box. It is very sleek. Very easy to setup and only took 5-10 minutes to install the desktop software. I was excited to get started. I have a bunch of photo albums that I wanted to go through and copy them, but just did not have a scanner to go through it. As soon as I set it up and started going through it. It went through in no time to scan all the photos I had. Had an issue with some of the pictures were slanted. That was only because I did not use the guides on the side to properly align the photos. Went through and scanned other documents. Those went through very quick. Did not really run into any issues with the scanner. It is a great device. I was sent this device through a beta testing. My only con for the device is that, I do find that the price it a little high. However the quality of the device and the quality of the scans are amazing. Definitely worth the cost.

Excellent scanner but high price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a review for the Epson FastFoto 640 that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review. If you have ever scanned in or taken pictures of old photos to digitize them then you know how time consuming the process can be scanning in each picture individually. The FastFoto scanner fixes this problem by allowing you to scan stacks of photos at a time very rapidly. The initial setup was very fast and easy such that anybody could figure it out. The only hard part here was that the website to get the FastFoto software did not come up. I had to search on the internet to find it, it would have been nice if they included a cd with the software, but many products these days don’t. To start the scanning process all you have to do is press a button and it launches the software for you and you can enter in the date the photos were taken to create a folder where it puts all of the pictures. Then all you have to do is put a stack of photos in face down and upside down then it scans them in. The program then auto corrects flays and defects in the photos getting rid of red eyes and making the photos look better than the actual prints themselves. The software alone is great, so good we decided not to use the store an original copy and the enhanced copy, but just to save the enhanced copy. So far we have scanned in 1600 old photos and it has only taken up 1.56 Gb on the default dpi. I had to clean the scanner every few stack of pictures because of dust or some debris from the pictures, this creates white streaks in some of the photos but goes away once cleaned. Overall the product works excellent and helps greatly reduce the time it takes to digitize photos. The price tag is fairly hefty though and I would not purchase this product for that price. A price range of around $200 would probably be a better price point for this product that more people could afford or see spending on a photo scanner.
