When it works it is great but I have had many problems with it. The technical team number you call does not have the support needed. Twice when I called they could not fix the problem. I finally bought the tech support program that best buy offered.

I used it to scan my rather large collection of prints. I had 2 issues: 1. Occasionally the scanner would jam (not often). 2. Occasionally the scanned image would have a line through it which required cleaning the scan head.

This Epson FastFoto Scanner was sent to me in exchange for a review and feedback after use. I didn't know what to expect when I received it but I had a need for it and was open to give it a try. Aside from it being very compact, it's super easy to use and there's virtually no set up required. The scanner moves extremely fast with the capability to scan all size photos front and back, so if you have notes on the back, it captures those as well. What a nice feature! It also can scan your photos in any direction and the photo enhancement capability is ideal for photos needing editing. The time saving to scan all of my photos as fast as this scanner works, is what makes it worth the price. If you have boxes and boxes of old photos just sitting around that you never look at anymore, this allows you the ability to see and share them whenever you want. I'm not the most tech savvy person but I was able to use it and learn quickly how much this scanner can do. I had fun reminiscing as I scanned all my old photos from growing up, high school, college, vacations, etc. Having them saved and easy to share makes all the difference in the world. I don't have to worry about losing them or them getting damaged. They're all right at my fingertips whenever I want to share!

This is a review for the Epson FastFoto 640 that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review. The setup of the scanner is super easy and quick and in a matter of minutes I was scanning old memories. It took me a minute or two to find the desired software ans drivers online but it nothing bad. I personally chose to do use the 600pp settings which takes a little bit longer and still, I am very impressed with the speed. The first time I started the machine, I was stunned at the speed at which the photos were going through. The software takes a couple minutes to apply the corrections and optimisations. The quality of the scanned images is also quite impresive. The 600pp setting gives you amazing results. As for the restauration software, it does a very great job at bringing the faded colors back to their original state. The software gives you a couple options as to what you want to correct but could offer more options. For example i would of like an option to choose to what extent you want to change the colors, contrast and lightning. To be honest, the way I keep all my memories has changed forever. I am a big paper photo fan and always worry about time changing it. Now i have the medecine for those cases.

    Fastest Photo Scanner

The Epson FastFoto 640 is the best scanner for archiving your pictures to your hard drive. The initial installation and configuration for the scanner was as simple as downloading the software, installing the software and driver, and plugging the scanner into the computer. The computer recognized the device right away and I was able to start scanning and saving pictures and documents to my computer. Loading photographs to the scanner was a breeze, I was able to take a stack of 30 at a time, and I was able to scan roughly 120 photos from various albums and start sharing them on social media in under 10 or so minutes without any issues. This by far is the speediest scanner that I have ever used. In addition, the Epson FastFoto 640 also scans documents and saves them as PDFs. With the Epson scanner, you are able to scan both sides of your pictures, which is nice if you have descriptions, dates or other information on the back of your photos. In addition, the software allows you to fix minor problems with your photos such as redeye, brightness, color, saturation and will enhance the colors of faded pictures. You are able to have the enhancements or edits performed on the pictures and have the original saved with no edits done. The included carrier sheet is a pleasant addition to use on fragile or delicate items, just place the photo or photos within the carrier sheet and you are able to scan and save without damaging the originals. My overall experience with the Epson FastFoto 640 was positive, the scanner is speedy and accurate, and I have not experienced jams when scanning a stack of photos. The scanning software is very good for scanning and saving, but the smart photo fix is okay if you do not have any photo editing software. I would highly recommend this scanner for anyone who has lots and many non-digital photographs. Good Scanner for Family photos-Ok for photographer

    Posted .

This is a decent little scanner. It does a great job of saving/archiving family photos. Its very fast. The software prompts you to name each batch which helps keep things organized. Most importantly set up and use is very simple. It has good construction and can quickly and easily be taken apart for storage/transport in its box. The software is simple and easy to use, It does have some advanced settings if you want them. It has three different modes for different scanning. The software lets you pick which mode pops up when you press the scan button on the scanner. 1st mode is Fastfoto which is for quicly scanning batches of photos. Its simple but limited to 300 or 600 dpi JPGs saved at ~60% quality. 2nd mode is Epson Scan which will scan batches but gives you a bit more control with more DPI settings, JPG/TIFF/PDF settings, and grey-scale/color settings. The 3rd mode is document scanning and will build you PDFs of scanned documents. This thing can scan a page in less then a second. As a photographer the quality is good for family photos and will meet the needs of most people. The colors are accurate and contrast is good. For professional photography purposes the scan quality is decent. At 100% on a 1200/600/300 dpi tiffs there is noticeable blocking. Each 8x8 section of pixels is slightly different so there is a bit of a checker pattern in certain areas of contrast. Most scanners do this. My Nikon film scanner does this but its about 70% less noticeable at 100%. For most people this will be a non issue. For professional photographers they will notice it but they are in the business of making prints not scanning them. If they do make a scan its of film which this does not scan. So its probably a non issue for them unless they are restoring client photos. Still would like to see this minimized. You can finally digitize all those old photos

This scanner packs a lot into a tiny package. The scanner is very compact--smaller than a desktop printer. It scans very quickly but more importantly it scans at high quality. I was able to scan 30 4x6 photos at 1200 dpi in less than 2 minutes. Some of the photos were a bit bent before I scanned them, but the scanner never got jammed and produced a nice image with no visible artifacts. This produced scans as nice as a flatbed scanner in a fraction of the time. Setup was easy. There is no assembly aside from snapping in the document tray and plugging it in. There is a basic photo scanning option which includes the option to have a second copy made with some basic corrections (red-eye and color correction). With this version, you can scan at either 300 or 600 dpi and even scan the back of the photo if you want to capture any notes written on the back of the photo. There is also the ability to automatically upload scanned photos to dropbox or google drive, which is a nice time-saver. Then there is an advanced scan option which opens up an older-looking UI that allows you to scan up to 1200 dpi and set some more fine-grained adjustments. It would be nice to integrate the advanced settings into the rest of the UI so you don't accidentally miss options. There is also a document scanning option which says it can make searchable pdfs (up to legal size) but I couldn't figure out how to make the scan searchable. Luckily Acrobat can do that. Overall this product is extremely easy to setup and use. It can make great scans of a large stack of photos in minutes. If you're looking to digitize your old photos, this scanner can handle the job and do a decent job at color correcting your photos. The scanner produces probably the highest-quality files you're going to get scanning prints. The only thing that would make this scanner better is if you could also feed strips of negatives. Disclaimer: This is a review for the Epson FastFoto 640 that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review. This did not affect the rating that I gave this product.

This is a review for the Epson Fast Foto 640 that I received free of charge to do a beta test review. This scanner was amazing ! It scanned my photos in seconds. Very easy set-up and easy to use features. I also liked the sleeve that was included, that protects old and delicate photos. It also automatically corrects and restores old photos, saving countless hours of manually photo shopping each one individually. It also scans both sides of photos at the same time, saving precious handwritten notes and dates on photos. I also liked the convenient size of the scanner, it was small enough for storing anywhere. This scanner is also able to scan 30 photos (same size) at one time. It also organizes and scans documents quickly. I think this product is a bit pricey, but well worth the investment, to save precious photos and valuable time. This is a great item to have for someone with lots of photos.

    Super Fast Photo Scanner!

I had the opportunity to beta test this unit before it was available to the public. This is an amazing super-fast scanner! I have / had a typical flatbed scanner that I have been using for the past 10 years. This scanner has now replaced the old flatbed scanner. I have 1,000’s of old family photos from the days before the digital camera era. It was very easy to setup and the space it takes up on my desk is a fraction of the old flatbed. The best part is the speed and quality of the photos. You no longer need to feed and align each photo. Just load up a stack of the photos press the start button and watch it scan. During my beta test it would take about 1 – 2 seconds to scan each photo. I was concerned that with this speed the scanning process that the photos would end up miss-aligned. They came out perfectly aligned. You can also have the scanner scan both sides of the photo if there is writing on the back side. The included software allowed you to easily place them in the folders you create and even gives you the option to rename the scans so it will be easy to find them in the future. The software allows you to save to the cloud or to Facebook. This is a great option if you have become the default family photo historian. My parents had 1,000’s of old family photos that need to be shared between my family members. The software will also restore and correct the color of these old photos. Another use I found helpful with this scanner is that I can quickly scan in my important paper work and my bills that I save on a monthly basis. My desk is now clutter / paper free. My wife thanks you for this! I can’t say enough about this scanner. I highly recommend purchasing this scanner. Pros: Easy to use Fast! I mean super-fast! Great quality of the final scans Cons: The price – however in the end it is going to save you so much time, storage space, and peace of mind knowing your photo have been saved to the cloud. Great scanner, not for polaroids

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

My experience with this photo scanner has been pretty positive. Not only does it scan really quickly, and enhance old pictures, but it’s smaller than the average printer/scanner. It won’t take up much desk space which is really great for a specific use product like this. I can flip the guide and output back in so it won’t get broken if I opt to store it. Even though this is a review for the Epson FastFoto 640 that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review, I can say I really liked the product for its speed, image quality, and size. Note that it doesn’t scan polaroids, so if you have a box full of them, this is not the scanner for you. After opening the box and finding the instructions, I was set-up and ready to scan in a few minutes. The instructions were easy to follow, and everything worked as explained. Make sure you read the instructions though; I tried to scan polaroids and they jammed right away. I looked back at the instructions to see it plainly says not to scan polaroids as it could damage them. Mine weren’t damaged thankfully, and the jam was easy to clear. The software wasn’t bad, but you have to click ‘keep scanning’ or it resets, and assumes you wanted to save new pictures back into the top-level folder, or a new folder. It was easy for me to re-arrange my folders through Windows Explorer. It also offers easy editing too. I had to rotate several pictures all at once since I put them in upside down by accident. The scanner also offers photo retouching automatically, so it will save two versions of each picture, the original and one that’s got brighter colours. I thought the retouched ones looked pretty good compared to the originals so I kept both versions. It’s a nice feature that you can opt to save both versions. The quality of this scanner is really great.

Right off the bat, I can tell you that I'm super impressed with this product. I have thousands of family photos that we've collected over the years. I have tried to scan these in previously, but it just takes so long that I always wind up putting the project on the back burner. This scanner has changed that completely. It's the fastest and most efficent photo scanner I have ever had the pleasure of using. I haven't ran into a single problem that I wasn't able to resolve myself very quickly. The quality is amazing. The software is clean and easy to use. Setup was a breeze. The price this sells for is very high. It would be prohibitive for a lot of folks. You’d have to be the judge but I can say it cruises through stacks of photos unbelievably fast. For someone with boxes of photos the speed is what sells. The quality is also fantastic. There is a reason for the price, it's the best photo scanner available and totally worth the money. First off let me state that I am a Mac user so Windows users mileage may vary. I wanted to love this machine, in fact I fought hard to love it but ultimately had to let it go. I think the issues with this machine are software related. Machine worked beautifully when it worked, but that was few and far between. It would often say that the scanner wasn't connected so I would unplug and reboot the scanner, nothing. Next I would reboot the computer and that would sometimes work. It just became too much work to get it to scan consistently.

This review is for a unique, one of a kind, must have item for anyone that has hundreds of photos. First, I must let you know that this is a review for the Epson FastFoto that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review. I was surprised at the size of the unit. For something that can do that many photos, in that short of time, I expected a beast of a unit - on the order of microwave oven size. It's not. Very compact in size. I would even say I'd call it portable. The size is inviting in that you could bring it to a family gathering and scan everyone else's photo's, while you visit. Scanning - Very fast! I could average 40 prints per minute when all were the same size. A quick fan of the stack made sure none stuck together. The ability to scan both sides, for archiving inscriptions was clever. You do need to clean the unit after a few hundred photos but it was easy. My test unit did exhibit a little rhythmic clicking as the test went on but it was not overly disconcerting. The unit ran cool. I would like a flatbed option, even if it folds out. There is a sleeve for fragile items but a flatbed would be better. Software - The included FastFoto software was very powerful and lets you do mass scanning and apply the same processing to all. Not much of a learning curve but still many options. All in all, this is a great unit. Yes it is coming in at a high price point but commercial scanners that do what this does are often four times that.

    This Scanner Rocks!

The Epson FastFoto is the best scanner I have ever owned. It looks modern, and can be compacted easily, so it will fit in many places. The software, downloaded from Epson's website, is very clean and has a simple UI. I was able to complete the scanner setup in less than 5 minutes. To test the claim that it it the fastest scanner under $1000, I decided to scan 100 5×7 pictures. It was done in less than 2 minutes without a single jam. It was perfect. After I scanned them, I looked at them on my computer, and the enhancements made them look great. They easily uploaded to Google Drive. To use the OCR, download the package, and it will let you edit files as if they were already digital. Nothing is perfect, and this scanner is no exception. My only problems were with the smaller photos. Some of them didn't go through, and were jammed in the scanner. It is easy to clear jams. I also had an issue scanning some papers, because even after following the manuals instructions on how to load papers, they still stuck together. I recommend this scanner for anybody that has many photos or photo albums, and wants them digitizing, or simply a small business owner who wants to scan old invoices. ******************************************************* This is a review for the Epson FastFoto that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review.

I can't say enough about this photo scanner, it is awesome easy to use, incredibly accurate and amazingly FAST !!! I am still amazed at how fast this scanner is. I was able to scan (actually had my kids do much of it it is so easy ) literally hundreds of photos just by stacking them and feeding the scanner. New photos, old phots even black and white and folded/ripped ! Old documents, my dad's draft card, marriage license etc... Priceless stuff now digitized !!! It is so awesome to have so many memories now "in the cloud" and not just lost in a shoebox or album. Size doesnt matter, small or large this machine takes them. Even those notes we write on the back of photos - It does BOTH SIDES or JUST ONE SIDE your choice and you can even set the photo's date !!!! I love the event option also - "Our Wedding xxxx" then feed 200 photos !!! The resolution is amazing and easy to do. Had the kids do much of it they loved it!!! This also does documents another priceless feature. I have been scanning EVERY PIECE OF MAIL that I get, Bills, documents, school stuff and then you can toss it. Links directly to major cloud services or just save to hard drive and upload from there - very flexible This is a review for the Epson FastFoto 640 that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review

THE DEVICE IS WAY BETTER THAN ANTICIPATED! IVE ALWAY ENJOYED EPSON PRODUCTS AND THE Fastfoto Ff-640 High-speed Photo Scanning System WAS NO DIFFERENT. I CAN NO LONGER IMAGING HAVING MY HOME OFFICE WITHOUT IT. THE OUTWARD PACKING WAS IN PERFECT CONDITION WHEN I RECIEVED IT. IT LOOKED LIKE I HAD JUST PULLED IT RIGHT OFF OF THE TRUCK FROM A MANUFACTURER. IT WAS A VERY APPEALING PACKAGE AND HAD ALL MAJOR FEATURES LISTED ON THE BOX. THE DEVICE WAS PACKED WELL IN STRYOPHPAM AS TO PREVENT DAMAGE. OUT OF THE BOX IT WAS OVERLY SIMPLE TO SET UP. ITS AS EASY AS PPLUGGING IT IN TO MY COMPUTER AND FOLLOWING SIMPLE INSTRUCTIONS. ONE THING I DID NOTICE THAT I FOUND EFFICENT IS THAT THERE WAS NO SOFTWARE DISK. IT IS ALL WEB BASED WHICH PREVENTED ME FROM HAVING TO PLUG IN MY DISC READER! THIS CREATED A MUCH QUICKER AND STRESS FREE SET UP. THIS SCANNER LITERALLY SAVED ME HOURS COMPARED TO MY OLDER SCANNER. I GOT THROUGH AT LEAST 6 PHOTO BOXES MY FIRST DAY. I CANT WAIT TO CONTINUE TO USE THIS PRODUCT IN THE FUTURE. This is a review for the Epson FastFoto that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review.

First of all, I received this scanner as a sample to review and let me tell you this thing is AMAZING! I fully expected to have a book to read in order to get this scanner set up. But alas, it was so easy! There was very little assembly required, just a quick snap to attach the photo feeding tray. Then you download the software, attach the scanner to your computer with included cable and you are ready to go! My favorite feature is the ability to save the images and include the month, year, and description. This will be a wonderful way to go back to find the images I'm looking for. The photos scan so quickly (one per second) and I'm looking forward to scanning more of my tens of thousands of photos! I love to take photos and this scanner is the best thing to have for anyone who has a lot of photos that the want to scan and preserve. And better yet, you can enhance those old photos as well! This Epson FastFoto Scanner isn't the cheapest one out there, but I highly recommend it. It is worth every penny and you won't regret it!!

I received this EPSON Fastfoto 640 free as part of study, in exchange for a review of the product. I must honesty say, this is a great product! I am not a tech geek, and I had no issues setting up this to my laptop...it basically installs itself. The program is easy to use and the ease of use is amazing. I was able to scan approx 40 photos in under a minute...it automatically enhances old photos and cleans them up nicely. If you have a ton of photos that you never scanned and want to prserve, this is the product to use. I would imagine it would take a long weekend to do a whole library compared to months on a project. Will be going through my shoe boxes filled with photos and putting this scanner to work

When I first received this product I was expecting the quality to be poor because it promises one photo a second. I never imagined it would actually be as fast as it stated but I was wrong. It does do one photo a second. I first grabbed all my photos I have wanted to scan over the past couple years but never had to time and got started. The set up was simple and the instructions to download the software are easy to follow. In no time the scanner was set up and ready to go. I went to my attic and pulled out all the photos I needed to scan over the past 10 years. Out of 1500 photos, I was done with them all in less than 45 minutes and most that time was spent sorting and cleaning up the photos. The quality was good and the software's auto cleanup tools made it possible for me to not worry of having to do any editing on my own. There was one issue where I had a line across a few hundred photos but then I read the instructions again and realized I had to clean the unit every once in a while to for continued quality. I was even able to scan important documents and convert them to PDFs which was a great option. Even better the scanner scanned both sides at the same time! It loses one star because the dpi could be higher; I would like to have the option slow the scan down and scan at over 1000dpi for more important projects. Overall I love this product and expect to use it often in the future. This is a review for the Epson FastFoto 640 that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review.

It is that fast - but go for the 600 dpi anyway

This is a review for the Epson FastFoto 640 that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review Pros: • Crazy fast scans at 300 DPI. • Even the 600 DPI scans are really fast. • Great size for your desk that already has a computer and a printer on it. It’s really small. It’s about the size of a sheet of paper, and weighs about 9 pounds. • Build quality seems solid. It’s not going to withstand the next hundred years, but I imagine it’ll work for many years. • Ability to upload directly to Google Drive or Dropbox. • Ability to automatically import to Photos on OS X. I assume there’s equivalent feature in Windows. • I’m running the newest version of OS X (now called macOS) and there’s no support glitches. • Supports Windows 7-10. • Really long power cord and fairly long USB cable. Cons: • Image enhancement might help older photos, but in many cases made mine look worse. • The 300 DPI doesn’t really do photos justice in my opinion and you really need the 600 DPI. • No negative or slide scanning ability. It’s not claimed to do this, but it would have been neat to have that ability somehow since it can do double sided scanning, especially at $650. • Only outputs as JPEG. • No native Linux support. • For $650, it would have been nice to see some kind of wireless implementation instead of USB or at least USB 3.0. • Seemingly no ABBYY OCR software support for Mac. • Only seems to support direct to Dropbox or Google Drive, though you could point the save destination at any service that acts like a folder (OneDrive, iCloud Drive, etc.) The FastFoto is incredibly fast at scanning photos, if you’re willing to accept what it puts out at 300 dpi. I found the 300 dpi scans to not be quite good enough for what I wanted. At 300 dpi, the 4x6s scanned at around 1742 × 1188 pixels, or about 2 megapixels. The 600 dpi 4x6 came in at 3496 × 2376 (8.3 megapixels), on the other hand. I found that these scans were very close to the original picture as I looked at it in my hand. As a librarian, I like that it allows me to specify some parameters for file naming before importing, and that it works in batches. When it finishes scanning photos, it asks if you want to scan more as part of the batch or it you’re done. Additionally, it waits to do any processing on the photos you’ve asked it to do until after the batch is scanned, which helps to increase the scan time as you can walk away from the process while it does red-eye reduction and the like. As for the color correction tools available, I found that in with color photos it shifted the images towards the reds, and with black and white it shifted them towards the blues. Faces became a little too red in color photos, and things became just a little too cool in black and white prints. Th first batch of prints I tested this with were generally new photos from an iPhone 6S and a Sony DSLR that I had tweaked before having them printed. I don’t have any old photos that need work to make them look good, so I suppose this might work for those. I would recommend paying attention to the shift in color I noticed. Color shifts red, black and white shifts blue. If you think that kind of shift would help your photo, turn it on! One last word on the enhancing functions: you can set the software to make a copy and apply the enhancements to that one so you end up with the basic, unaltered scan and the enhanced scan. That way you can choose which one you think is best. I tested the document scanning on a few documents, and found that it did a nice job of rendering the images. I’m not sure if it’s a Mac thing or lack of ABBYY or I just did something wrong but the OCR it produced seemed unreliable. I appreciate OCR, but I usually find that uploading PDFs to Google Drive or Evernote produces reliable enough OCR for me as that’s where the scans are going to live anyway. I would not recommend this solely for document+OCR scanning. The document scanning is kind of a bonus on this model, I think. Bottom line: disregarding the price, this is a great photo scanner. It’s blazing fast at 300 dpi (it really is about 1 second per photo), it can help resurrect old photos that might need some work, can organize your photos as you scan and upload to the cloud, and it really doesn’t take up much space at all on your desk. The document scanning is a bonus, but really not it’s forte. If you need a lot of document scanning, you might need something else. Since I don’t have a lot of old photos personally, I would not buy this particular model but I would recommend it due to its speed to someone who does have a ton of photos and wants to make sure they live on. I would also recommend scanning at 600 dpi to really preserve your photos. Even at the 600 DPI speed it’s still blazing fast compared to the last time I scanned photos on a flatbed.

I would recommend this to a friend
