Customers admire the Home Cinema 1040 1080p 3LCD Projector's impressive picture quality, brightness, and ease of use. Many also find it easy to set up and a good value for the price. However, some customers note that the fan can be a bit loud and the projector generates noticeable heat. A few users also mention limitations with the HDMI capabilities.

Beautiful picture from 16' and easy to use. No audio out port so ALL sound is mono from the onboard speaker. After about three weeks one of the two HDMI ports just stopped working. Best Buy says to contact Epson but I have yet to get a response from them.

Purchased this projector for a large open wall space in my basement. Mainly for the upcoming football season. After hooking it up and trying it out with some movies from Amazon, we have now moved from our 70" Vizio 4k TV to watching movies in the basement. Great picture, great brightness, great projector! It is a little noisy but if you switch to ECO mode, you don't loose much brightness and the noise almost goes away.

A very bright projector and colors are quite good at that.
Note this is not a 1080p but rather 1920x1200, which is more but not necessarily better as if you input a 1080 source you have grayish bars on top and bottom . It is annoying in complete darkness. now if you have a dark screen frame this should be compensated if it is set up to project the bars on the frame but that does not work for my current setup. Again, if you are watching this with plenty of ambient light this should be less concerning as this would get washed out.
Apart from that - a great machine.
Just something to have in mind before buying.

Best projector for the money

I've owned this projector for 2 years now and i can honestly say I'm still stunned with the quality of the image to this day. I project a 135 inch screen on an off-white wall with the projector hanging from the ceiling. Everyone that comes over is always amazed at the clarity and brightness of the image, and they always think I spent way more than what I did for it.
Setup was easy and only required minimum adjustments. The auto-keystone adjustment did its job right out of the box, no manual adjusting was required. The blacks are deep, the colors are vibrant, and I've had no issues at all in the first 300 hours of use. It looks great on everything from blu-ray movies, PS4 games, HD TV, ETC. As far as negatives, my only gripe is that the fan is a little loud on 'Normal' mode. When switched to 'Eco', it can't be heard. I use ECO at night because it's plenty bright. During the day, I use Normal as it's a little brighter (by the way, my living room is NOT dark and the projector still looks great during the day). 3000 lumens of brightness helps, and the extra heat it produces for this is probably why the fan is bit louder. Some people are complaining about the speaker not being loud/sounding "tinny", and they're right. However, this is a 'Home Theater" projector and Epson probably figures you're intending to complement it with a nice sound system. The only thing I wish it had was a lens door that automatically opens and closes when turned on/off. That being said, I leave mine lens door open 24/7 and have had no issues with dust. Remember, this isn't the 'Cadillac' of projectors at a $500 price point. It's more of the Honda Accord (excellent quality and reliability, but a little less in terms of bells and whistles).
TL:DR: Buy this projector. You can't find another one with this brightness/quality at a $500 price point, and I guarantee you'll be impressed with the image.

The image quality and ease of use was much better than I could have imagined. Speaker isn't desirable, but who in their right mind has a 100"+ Screen with a 2" Speaker. Speaker would work fine in a temporary setting like outside or in a board room. Good buy for the Money!

This projector is outstanding right out of the box. 2 HDMI Ports and Digital Audio Out. I fell in love with it almost instantly.
I was able to watch a movie in 1080p immediately and play the latest Starcraft on my wall. The display was crisp, and i will enjoy this product for years to come. The price was outstanding.

Picture is twice as clear and bright as I could have imagined. Bought for myself for Christmas and still very happy! We watch games and movies on wall and garage door. Everyone that watches it can't stop talking about it. Picture is about 120" in picture below and about 17' on garage!

I was little worried when I had the projector in an open space without dark curtains around. To my surprise, the picture quality was amazing and bright when project over wall, I like the way Epson is maintaining the performance and quality. Will recommend this buy

We bought this projector to replace an Optoma HD7100. No comparison. Picture quality is similar to our flat screen Sony Bravia, Samsung and Visio HD's 42 to 60 inch. Picture looks great in a well lighted room. Great surprise. Thanks Epson. DocB
