Amazing Home Theater On A Budget
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm an avid movie watcher and gamer. After tiring of LED/OLED TVs I decided to put together a home theater gaming system on a budget. After a ton of research and reading through a copious amount of reviews I decided to buy the Epson 1060. Setup was a breeze and the amazing picture quality blew me away. Components: Xbox One S HDMI to J-Tech Digital 1080P HDMI to HDMI + Audio Extractor Convertor to EPSON 1060 with Optical audio out to Vizio SB3651-E6 surround sound. Setup: My projector is setup on top of my Xbox on a stand above and behind my couch projecting onto a dark brown wall at a distance of 11ft. The smallest image size from that distance is 5'x9' and the max image size is 6'x10'. While watching movies it's set to bright cinema due to the dark brown wall and while gaming set to dynamic because I like the vivid colors. It would be ideal to paint the wall with Bear Ultra Pure White 1050 which can be found at Home Depot. Picture: The 1080p 3100 lumens 15,000:1 contrast ratio picture quality is amazing! It's a projector, it wont be as bright during the day, but it'll blow your socks off at night. Whites are super bright, blacks are black, colors are vivid. The image quality of the picture I uploaded below has been degraded by the upload, but you'll get the idea. Internal Audio: The projectors internal speaker is loud, but sounds tinny. External Audio: There are no HDMI audio or Optical audio out ports. Easy fix with a J-Tech Digital 1080P HDMI to HDMI + Audio Extractor Convertor to 25ft. Optical cable (buying an expensive receiver is not necessary) out to Vizio SB3651-E6 surround sound. Fan Noise: It's a projector, you're going to hear it, but you forget about it while watching movies or gaming. Bulb Life: Normal mode up to 4500 hours. That's 24 hours a day for 187.5 days. Who watches movies or games that much? $60-$100 replacement through Epson. Product Issues: Buy the extended 2 year warranty for $99, Best Buy will replace it. Final Thoughts: The Epson 1060 is an amazing projector and easily exceeded my expectations. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. Even my girlfriend who doesn't really care about these things loves it. It's also portable and can easily be moved outside or to friends and families houses for movie, game, sports, or fight nights. If you're looking for higher contrast or deeper richer colors, then spend more money and buy the higher end more expensive projector or a crazy expensive and bulky LED/OLED TV that meets your needs. If you're on a budget at $549 the Epson 1060 is hands down the best projector on the market.

Big Bright Colorful Game or Movie Night Experience
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.EPSON - PowerLite Home Cinema 1060 1080p 3LCD Projector The Home Theater experience is not beyond reach. Take one of these Epson projectors home. My impressions of the EPSON will follow a bit further along, but first, I’ll describe my setup. Set the EPSON 1060 projector up on any flat surface, approx 10’ feet away from a flat, white wall. (Zoom and Manual Focus provide flexibility; but, there are max/min limits.) Get a longer than typical HDMI cable and run it to your Blu-Ray or gaming player or computer. I used my DirecTv Satellite box. Setup took mere minutes. Ready. But, I didn’t stop here. Connecting my source player to an AVR (audio/video receiver) and then to the projector and to a set of home theater speakers, especially with a subwoofer, and I’m now in serious competition with the mall theater. How big can you get your image? Shockingly big if your room and wall provide enough space. This EPSON is bright and fills a BIG screen if desired. But, keep in mind, you want to control light levels (dark is best). Science tells us projector light falls off as it gets further away from the screen. For the later part of my review, I eventually aimed onto a 10’ wide (16x9 ratio) projection screen. My comparison projector costs 7X the price of the Epson and is considered top tier in its price range. The EPSON is going to be tested. The EPSON 1060 uses 3LCD, 3-chip technology. This is a HD (1080p, or 1920 x 1080 native panel). I saw NO pixel grid from my close seating position. This was a smooth and sharp image. Connections are via 2, HDMI ports (1x MHL) to connect your cable/satellite box, Blu-ray Disc player, gaming console or streaming device; it supports MHL-enabled smartphones and streaming sticks for mirroring and charging. Projection can be via Front / rear / ceiling mount. (Yes, the projector has the ability to flip and/or reverse the projected image.) It has a Built-in speaker. Nice for a board room or classroom. See first paragraph. Lamp Life: I used the ECO mode for my setup which should yield up to 7500 hours Normal mode should be good for up to 4500 hours; Lens features: Optical and manual zoom and manual focus; variable focal length 18.2-29.2mm; Zoom 1.1-1.2. WHAT DID I SEE: I’ve lived with projectors in my home theater and in professional settings for decades. So, I know what to expect in various price ranges. I still get some surprises. I found myself “WOWing” while I watched the EPSON because of the quality I was seeing at this $649 price. I also found myself wanting more, because there are limitations at the price. My first image on the EPSON 1060 was a live baseball game. Wow . . . bright and crisp! And motion artifacts were not to be seen. I felt a need to switch to cinema to get a more natural color, and I lowered the BRIGHTNESS (which actually modifies the black level) to get more realistic shadows. This setting proved to be the best adjustment for just about everything, but an hour spent with a calibration disk like Disney’s WOW goes a long way. I was so impressed with this baseball game, I thought I’d switch over to a hockey match. These can prove difficult, with the wicked contrast between the bright white ice and the darker, colorful uniforms or arena. No problem. I’m not sure I saw any motion ghosting, but the EPSON provides controls to manage display speed and motion issues. These should help gamers, also. Great projector for sports. Oh, and if you want to set this up in a room where controlling light is going to be difficult, not to worry. This bright image won’t compete against sun streaming into the room, but it will do nicely with the lights dimmed. Let’s try a movie. Revenant, with it’s natural scenery, brightly lit day and challenging nighttime scenes, human faces, fine details, and frequent camera pans all provide good examples of how the EPSON processes images. I thought the bright lit scenes were handled well. Without any extended calibration, skin tones were decent and colors were fine. Colors pop rather nicely in brightly lit scenes. Night scenes, however, are where the EPSON struggles. No surprise. And not really fair to expect at $649. If you’re into Sci-Fi and are looking for stars twinkling against a deep black sky, you’re going to be disappointed. And, as long as we’re being unreasonable, I should note that the image on the EPSON isn’t as “calm” as on my comparison projector, the colors aren’t quite as pure or as rich looking. In most of the other image settings, the EPSON can wash out color and blacks a bit more. Use a calibration disk to get the best performance for which the projector is capable. Generally lowering BRIGHTNESS gives a more cinematic image. Let’s pop in an animated film. WOW, again. Like I said. You need reasonable expectations. This is a wonderful image. Sharp. Bright. Colorful. Artifact free. And really a great value. How to rate this EPSON 1060? Is it a disappointment because it can’t outperform a $3000+ projector? If I’m a teacher/professor/professional looking for a projector that can serve as a lecture hall film/photo projector and I can take it home for the kids or a weekend sporting event, I’m blown away. If I’m a gamer who’d love to bring the friends over for a genuine gaming experience up on a wall or for sharing a movie, we’re all blown away. And, although I described a nice home theater setup earlier, this projector is up and ready to go in a few minutes. If you’re thinking about a dedicated theater experience with a steady diet of Sci-Fi, you probably want to spend more . . . 2 to 3X more. This projector, when used for purposes where it excels, is remarkable.

Great option for home movie nights
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Epson Home cinema 1060 is a great projector. I have been teaching my 3 year old how to play Mario via the SNES mini that is hooked up to one of the two HDMI inputs on this projector. The picture quality is fantastic! 3,100 lumens is great for my living room that has three big windows that get pretty close to direct sunlight. This thing is plenty bright and you can see the picture very well. At night its even better. Rich vibrant colors and dark blacks make your experience all that much better. It's advertised to have a 15,000:1 contrast ratio and I believe it. A built in speaker is a nice feature and it performs pretty well. You can easily hook up your whole entertainment system to it with HDMI/MHL as well. Setup was a breeze and I was easily able to get it onto my home network. You can get the iProjection app for your phone and stream content from there to the screen. I was able to do PDF's, webpages, photos, but I wasn't able to find a way to do videos without using the screen mirroring function (youtube, netflix, ect) works that way, but you don't get sound from the projection with that. Lamp life is rated at 4,500 hours in normal mode and add 3,000 hours life in ECO mode. I found that ECO mode was just fine. Fan noise was drastically reduced that way as well...but even in normal mode, Fan noise was not that bad at all. I did look up the replacement bulb and they are very reasonable at $49.00. Which really surprised me. I had always thought that projector bulbs were in the hundreds to replace. Very happy about that! You really can't go wrong with this projector. I am looking forward to having movie nights in my back yard this Summer with family and friends.

Exceeded My Expectations
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 1060 1080p 3LCD Projector was even better than I expected. It has a brilliantl 1080p HD picture on a massive scale. I have it set up in a room about 13 feet away from the wall it is projecting upon. The setup gives me a screen size of roughly 15 feet wide by 5 feet tall. According to my calculations, that is a screen size of around 190 inches. Yes, one hundred ninety inches! That blows away my 55-inch tv. The picture is every bit as bright and clear too. It can be made bigger or smaller depending on where you put it too. It has the incredible ability to straighten the picture and make it perfectly rectangular, even if the projector is slightly turned. It hooks up to many different streaming machines to show your favorite pictures/movies/shows in gigantic scale. Mine is hooked up to my Xbox One with a simple HDMI connection. It is portable so I plan on taking it onto the back patio for some nighttime outdoor movie fun with the kids and we’re also going to take it camping. It has a speaker built in so you don’t need anything else to play your shows, but the speaker isn’t the greatest so I would recommend using an external speaker to really make it an incredible theater-like experience. I am in love with this product and everyone that's seen it is completely impressed by it.

Bright, crisp picture
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Epson 1060 1080p projector is the first projector I've owned, so the only comparisons I have are projectors I've used at work. Compared to those, the picture from this projector is much brighter and the colors are much more vivid. The cooling fan on this projector also seems to be a bit quieter than the one we use at work, although that one is mounted from the ceiling which might allow the fan noise to be heard more easily. I had the projector out of the box and hooked to my cable box via HDMI in about 5 minutes. I think I will eventually mount this projector to the ceiling, but since that hardware isn't included, for now it's on a small table in the middle of the room. The settings on the projector are fairly well organized and easy to navigate, so after a quick read through the guide, I had a very nice, crisp picture displayed on a 65" screen; focusing and adjusting the image to fit the screen was quiet simple. I was really surprised at the quality and brightness of the picture since the room doesn't have blackout curtains, and at the time, the sun was fairly bright. Even with a fair amount of ambient light in the room, the picture was bright and clear, and the colors were excellent... at night, both were even better. The onboard speaker does a decent job for what it is, but if you're watching movies or anything 'sound intensive' you'll need another source for the sound. Another surprising thing was that even I after watched about an hour or so of various shows, when I turned the unit off, it didn't even seem like it was hot. All in all, I think this is a great projector. The installation is simple, the resulting picture is excellent, and the projector is small enough to make it portable, if that's what you're looking for.

Awesome projector for a home theater
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We move around a lot so I got this projector to use for those in between times when we don't have a TV. This thing is definitely brighter than I thought it would be, I can use it in the day time no problem if I just close the curtains. Setup is super easy, I just use an hdmi cord and hook it up to my laptop. I project it right on to my living room wall and the picture looks great. Only had for about a month so far, so we'll see how long the bulb lasts.

Great native 1080p projector. Very Bright.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros: -One of the least expensive, native 1080p video projectors -Good keystone effects allow off-center placement -Very bright: Max brightness is too bright at night, and acceptable during a daytime, sun-lit room. Perfect in an office with more controlled ambient lightning. -Very cheap replacement bulbs (50$) and filters (7$) straight from the manufacturer. -One of the two HDMI ports supports MHL for streaming devices and phone connectivity with the right cable (not included) -Single built in speaker allows for out-of-the-box presentation ability (see Cons also) Cons: -Device fan can be loud for movies when I used it on a stand by my bed, unnoticeable when up on a shelf -Device runs pretty hot as it uses a regular bulb (non-LED), again a non-issue if up on a shelf, and these devices are built for this so not a flaw really -Speaker is very weak and you will most definitely want to plug-in external speakers for watching any media other than office presentations (see Pros) I use this with a Chromecast, Nintendo Switch, and a laptop. Zelda is really fun on a 12' screen, but faster games like Rocket League on PC you'll notice a bit of input lag and ghosting although it does have true 60hz refresh rate. Movies look amazing. I'm throwing about 10' onto a greyish-beige wall, mostly likely even better quality if you use a screen. Device fan is variable and runs faster when not in ECO-mode. I use both regular mode and ECO-mode, as well as some user-defined profiles depending on the environment as I do move it. It is not considered a 'portable' projector, but it is very easy to move and has a pretty small footprint.

This thing is amazing!
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The great: We have it wall mounted about 18' from the projection wall and it projects about 175" directly on the wall and absolutely looks 1080 and amazing. I had bought a cheap one elsewhere with what appeared to be similar specs, and side by side this one was probably three times as bright with better color. This unit is bright enough to use with some lights on. It has a split screen feature that allows you to split two video sources side by side. Other: There are internal speakers, but I wouldn't consider them adequate for home theater. What we did was buy an apple tv which supports bluetooth audio and paired it with a UEBoom2 (all available at best buy). A loud but small speaker on the mantle, projecting to a wall, means no visible wires in most of the room and also no tv mounted as a focal point. The fan can seem a little loud with no audio on, but I really do not notice it with even a low volume.

I absolutely love it
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm not new to having a projector as a main screen. I have an older Epson that I watch everyday and loved. But years went by and it got old and tired. I was on the website and noticed this one by chance. Read the reviews did some research and I am so happy that I bought this projector it is absolutely beautiful the colors are stunning it's very bright even with the lights on it's no problem to watch it!! I am very happy!! Just one thing that you may want to know there is no audio out. But I got around that by using my Xbox One and just running a long optical audio cable to the receiver.

Great projector BUT...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So this is my first home with a media room and truly trying to set up the experience. The picture quality amazed me. I don’t know a lot about projectors and expected a crappy view, but this picture was so good that we ended up deciding to forego the screen and use the wall so we could make the picture bigger. My only compliant is that there isn’t bluetooth capability to hook up a sound bar. So we tried a large speaker and there’s not an Aux port either. Be prepared to run an optical cord SOMEWHERE or R,W,Y cables for sound. Which is rather unfortunate in this day and age. So until we can figure out a solution and find a sound system in our budget, we are using the speakers in the projector...which are ok. Good enough to get through a movie, but you won’t get that movie theater feel. Other than that, we are very impressed with the projector.

100" Screen for the cost of a 65" TV, looks great!
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Fantastic picture quality, sharpness, brightness. While best in a dark room, this projector is bright enough to content with moderate light (used in my den with two sliding glass doors). The only con is if you use this in a bright room and adjust your picture settings to compensate, the projector cooling fan will get significantly louder. If you're in the market for a projector, you know that the built-in speaker is trash and will be using a better sound setup such as a home theater receiver with HDMI switching. Don't use the built-in speaker and complaint about it, that's a projector no-no. Great projector, great price, great quality, you won't regret it.

Really nice projector
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I use this projector for watching movies and tv in my backyard. Great picture for an affordable price. With full sun during the day a mounted tv limited my options. This projector let's me move the picture to wherever I want (garage, fence, house, portable screen). The dual hdmi was a huge plus for connecting the laptop and/or fire stick etc.

Not what i was expecting
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had an old EPSON projector since 2009, which was only 480p, so when I upgraded to this new EPSON projector I was expecting big things. The picture quality is really great and the lumens make it bright enough to watch with the lights on, which is exactly what I was looking for. The two HDMI slots, along with the other inputs are also a huge upgrade. The only thing I took for granted was the how the projection actually made its way onto the screen. There is no lens shift and barley any room for error when it comes to screen size. on the old projector I could put it anywhere in the room, near or far, left or right, and I could get the perfect size screen needed. this projector needs to be exactly right for you to fit it where you want it. it also shoots the screen almost straight up in the air, which makes no sense to me. I've had to put about 8 inches of coasters underneath the back of the projector just to get it to shoot the screen straight across. overall a good image but a lot of hassle for screen size. also my chromecast doesn't work in the HDMI slot made for wireless connection.

Bright
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this projector to get a big screen quickly and as cheap as possible. This projector works well in lit rooms, but definitely is fantastic in the dark. I got so many compliments of how it looks just like being in the movie theater. I watched GoT season 8's The Long Night episode on this which was shot all at night. I could see so much detail that I couldn't on my 4k TV. Under normal mode, this project is loud in my opinion. There is an ECO mode which makes this project extremely quiet. All I feel is the hot air flowing out of it. The brightness is reduced ever so slightly in ECO mode, but I think it is worth it considering it saves LCD life and keeps things quiet.

Great projector for the price
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This projector has a very crisp image, it is easy to set up and very practical to use with big classes, or simply to play movies or clips in a large area. The only downfall of the projector is that it does't have a connection for audio out. So you either have to figure it out to split the image and sound from the source, or use the speaker built in the projector (not optimal for a large area or big class). I wish the projector would have a connector to be able to take the audio out from it to a speaker.

Epson sets the bar high!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this from necessity, as I had to provide a slideshow for my daughter's rehearsal dinner. I was blown away with the sharpness, color fidelity, brightness, and overall quality of the projector. The Epson 1060 is an awesome product, especially for the money. I was not expecting such quality and fidelity, so I determined to build a home theatre, as I've always liked the idea, but was never too sold on the image quality. As a professional photographer, I'm very picky when it comes to image quality. To make a long story short, I returned this model and purchased up to an Epson Home Cinema 3700 model which supports 3-D. The image quality seems about the same as on the 1060 to me, but the 3-D was important to me, so I'm pleased with the investment.

Works great ,no phone jack
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Works great, the picture quaility is really good and bright , contrast is adjustable with picture settings. Works well in a lighted room but for optimal use in that situation , use a high gain silver or grey screen. Sound quality isn't great but it has a small single speaker. Pair it with an audio system or external speakers via av wires and it's wonderful. Bulb life should be several years in eco mode , like 5 and about 2 yrs in normal mode. Not a huge quality loss in eco mode especially if u adjust picture settings .overall, bright sharp , vibrant color . And the price is usually decent considering the other options.
