Projector just went out and have to get serviced right at the 2-year point and warranty expiration. For the price ($3K) should have purchased an 85" HD TV instead.

Within 6 months the unit failed to work. It won't power on and Epson sent a "refurbished" unit as a replacement. It did arrive swiftly. However, after installation of the refurbished replacement unit, i immediately noticed a substantial scratch on the lens (which was supposed to be a new lens) and that its was dirty. Obviously not a new lens in this unit. Additionally, the picture is UPSIDE DOWN. I requested a NEW unit as a remedy but they will only send another refurbished unit. This will undoubtedly be my last Epson purchase.

Wowzers! This projector blows my previous BenQ W1070 away! I was a bit skeptical with this whole faux-K e-shift thing. But it's the real deal. 4K blu rays and 4K streaming on YouTube and Netflix look phenomenal. No, it may not be as drastic as SD to HD, but it is definitely noticeable, and that's what I wanted... a noticeable difference. And yes, even the regular HD images look better. My Directv picture is even impressive and the e-shifting of regular 1080p blu rays look gorgeous. This Epson is also very quiet despite its size. I am pleasantly surprised. (Nice rhyme eh?) Anyway, the bottom line is that I would definitely recommend this to my own mother. Yes, it's expensive, but worth it in my opinion. Oh, another benefit of this Epson over my old BenQ is that it's way brighter. I can actually turn on lights and let some sunlight in while maintaining a very watchable picture. Well, if you have about $3000 to spend, I think this is way better than getting a top of the line TV.

Hello. I recently purchased this projector after owning an epson 2150 for almost a year used with a first generation x box one. After installing this epson 5040ub along with a new x box one x console. I cannot say there is a huge difference in viewing performance. Considering the price difference of over $1500. I would have just stayed with what I originally had. The x box one x upgrade didn't make a noticeable difference either. The epson 2150 is the best bang for your buck.

I bought this projector to replace my Mitsubishi I also bought at Best Buy a number of years ago. I read the reviews, talked to the Magnolia people about it and then waited for a sale that was more in my price range. Glad I bit the bullet finally and got it. Took it out of the box with no problems, just using the quick setup manual was able to adjust it to the screen in my home in a matter of minutes and then had to sit down when the picture came on. Outstanding, I tried, 4k shows through Netflix, regular movies through Netflix, Vudu digital copies I had purchased , blu rays and even DVD's. With the 4k up scaling the pictures were bright and colorful and I was absolutely pleased with my purchase. Even the DVD's look much better although not as outstanding as any of the 1080p items I tried. I even tried a couple of 1960's Disney movies I had purchased on Vudu and they look like they shot them last week they were so clear and colorful. You cannot go wrong with this projector in any way. The only drawback is when my brother bought an Epson 1080 p projector it came with two sets of 3D glasses and this came with none. So far this is the best projector I have ever owned and I have not even bought a player for 4k movies yet. Just be advised that this is 4k up scaling and not true 4k but since I cant afford an $8000.00 or more projector this will do just fine and you would never know the difference if I didnt tell you.

I own Epson's 2030 3d projector (1080p), and I do not see that big of a difference in picture quality when watching blu rays on this thing. The 4k might be stunning (when using 4k ultra disks and 4k player), but I have a TON of blurays in comparison to the 4 titles I own of the 4k ultra disks. This projector is HUGE btw. It is almost half the size of my coffee table! That is no lie. The motion is also a negative for this projector. When watching the "soap opera effect", things tend to blur a little when moving fast. Not impressed with this projector at all. It has been returned.

Purchased this unit 5 years ago. Picture remains outstanding. Still on original bulb. The 5050 model now being sold is said to have a better picture but I am not upgrading. I wanted a beautiful theater level image for movies and this unit exceeded my expectations. Not used for gaming so the 5050 may be a better option in that regard. Projecting on a 150 inch screen. Always wanted a home theater, this unit has made this possible.

This projector is an amazing upgrade from my previous Epson 1080UB, which I thought was just a great projector for the longest time. I had the 1080 for 10 years, and with all the new tech I wanted to see if this would be worth the price of admission. The short answer is, yes and then some! I wanted to compare what the difference in brightness and sharpness would be, but it would be like comparing TUBE TVs to Plasmas, LCDs, etc. I can have my windows wide open, and this looks perfect on a 110" screen, where with the other one I had to close all windows and curtains in order to get a nice bright picture. The settings were the other component that just blew me away. The 1080 has a manual lever, which for the time was fantastic. Well, the shifting lens is simply outstanding. I didn't have to fiddle around with the mount, just left it in place and voila, perfectly sized image for the screen. I am so happy to have made this change, and I hope this one can also last me another 10 years! :)

I have never written a review before, I’ve always read them. The only projectors I owned were epson’s. But after I bought the 5040UB which started out great, but after 1 and a half years and not playing it everyday that the power went out. Thank God that I purchased the 2yr Warenty from Bestbuy, that I’m able to have it replaced with the 5040UBE. But reading more about the same issues. I’m going to play it everyday, keep track of the hours and see what happens. It will really be a shame if what I read about the power issues are true. I will update this review once I get it and see.

Upgraded from the 5030. Couldn't be happier. Big upgrade in picture quality.
