I have no reason to go into great detail about the picture quality. It is best. This projector far exceeded my expectations and they were VERY high. The most important things to me were deep blacks, sharp 4k resolution, vibrant colors and 3D bluray quality. The blacks are comparable to OLED.The picture just floats with the wall. It's an amazing experience. 4k looks INCREDIBLE on this projector. There is no need to go to the theaters anymore if you own the 5050UB, you have it at home. This is an expensive projector but easily pays for itself when you stop going to the movie theaters and just buy the blurays to watch on your own theater. Epson could not have made a better projector. If your thinking about buying this and can afford it, do it - you will not regret it.

This is a fabulous projector. I have it in my family room and use it for my day to day tv. Projector is not a short throw so light management is needed, but it does a good job even with windows near by. Contrast and colors are spectacular.

I am not one to just take people’s opinions. I have tried nearly all the projector’s released in the last 4 years. I presently own the Epson 5040ub and the Epson 5030ube, and the 5050ub blows them all away. However it works best with an apple tv4k. The only other projector that comes close in my opinion is the “ nexigo aurora pro” . But the problem with that projector is that it doesn’t have the history to stand on as a lasting product like Epson does. The only comparable projector with history that fights with the 5050ub is the Epson ls1200. It blows my mind that a 7 year old projector is still beating out most current projector models.

I've been mulling over whether to get a projector or large LED TV for years. I finally decided on a projector. Initially I planned to do the installation myself after looking at several YouTube videos, but after a consultation with a very knowledgeable and honest Magnolia representative, I decided to trust him with the install.
YouTube videos don't do the picture quality justice. After the initial installation, we played a few demo videos, and I was stunned! This is exactly what I wanted...a cinematic experience..a beautiful picture that was worth the investment. I played the opening scene of The Lion King (remake) and felt chills and goosebumps...literally. i felt like I was sitting in a movie theater.
Full disclosure: 1. For the best results, you need very dark conditions. 2. Invest in a good projector screen (I'm using a $600 silver screen by Elite Screens; other salesmen in the past try to tell me I need to invest $1,000+ screen...that's not true...at least not with this excellent projector). 3. If you like the Smooth Motion (soap opera) look, this option is not for you. 4. You need an audio system. You don't have to spend thousands of dollars for a sound system, but keep in mind this projector has no built in speakers.
I'm very satisfied with this projector and have no qualms about recommending it to anyone considering a home theater. I absolutely love my purchase.

What can I say except WOW! The picture is absolutely amazing. The set up is so easy. I am using it with a 120 inch Screen Innovations white screen. My theater is totally dark or dimly lit. I recommend having help if you are hanging from the ceiling. It is pretty cumbersome and awkward. It also interfaces with both my Denon and Onkyo receiver without any issues. I expected problems but had zero. After it was installed on the ceiling I was watching movies in less than 10 minutes. Highly recommended.

Replaced an older 1080P I had for 10+ years. Did my research on the laser projectors and opted to go with this due to the convenience of replacing the bulb anytime I need to. We are blown away at the picture quality out of the box. I have not changed any settings. Mounted, plugged in, set picture dimension and finished. The picture is better than the 2 LED tvs on each side of the screen that we use for football watching. It looks like I have a 135" LED tv. If you are trying to decide between this and the laser versions, save the money and buy the 5050UB. You can thank me later.

Worth every penny if you are willing to pay the extra 1k when compared to 4010. Its bright and watching movies is fun on this projector. Lens shift from the remote is of big help. Over all i am extremely satisfied with this purchase. Contract ratio makes blacks looks real and enhances image depth. You can enjoy this much better if you block out any light. I would certainly recommend this projector, you wont regret it.
Picture Quality is amazing after a few adjustments

I bought this projector Last year at Christmas 2019. After 11 months I've decided to finally review it. I don't think there is another projector in it's price range that can perform as well as it does. I have a 150" pro white screen in my den. I've played with the different picture modes and have settled on the Dynamic mode. I'm impressed with the adjustments in the image menu. Under the advanced option there is a gamma option. Select custom and you will see a graph chart. If you spend a bit of time in there lowering the first 5 columns a little at a time you will begin to see amazing results in dynamic range. The blacks will become black instead of greys. The picture quality I'm getting is amazing. My den has wood blinds and is a bit bright during the day. At night it's nice and dark. This projector cuts through the bright of day and is very watchable. It's is absolutely great at night. Of course the best image quality is obtained by streaming 4k and or viewing 4k blu rays. 1080 Blu rays look really good also. I hope this helps if you have this projector or are thinking of purchasing one. I have seen many home theaters with very high priced projectors, The 5050UB is as good and better than some of them.

The projector is really good at contrast and brightness as like with other reviews . However some guidelines. You should try setting contrast with a sample video which has deep blue water or deep green colors . There is some adjustment required for getting the right color . For reference I used my existing 4K tv right beside the projector screen and played the Same content simultaneously. There is a difference in the deep blue or green colors. The color is inclined towards bluer shade in most cases. Does it matter a lot, probably not as you would be blown away with the overall contrast.
Another thing I had a high performance perforated screen so if you are using that with this projector you need at least 8 feet of viewing distance. Otherwise you would see a bit of moire effect or pixelated image
I believe something to note if you are using any of the above setup.
Other than that the setup is a breeze with infinite projection options and zoom options which makes it a smooth setup

Upgraded my project or this, from a 1080P Sony. Wow... what a difference! Picture is completely different than the Sony, amazing blacks and very detailed images. Start up time to image is very fast compared to my old projector also. Love the electronic lens shift too, makes it easy to get the image just where you want it. Wish I upgraded sooner... I can’t say enough great things about this projector!

Absolutely amazing....quiet with full color. It is better than my 6000 series. It was easy to install on the same bracket. It is even easier to set up and follow directions.

Hard to find a better, crisper picture than we have with the Epson 5050UB...and bright so that even in a room that is not very dark, you see everything clearly. Very pleased with this!

This project is hands down the best I have used. The clarity, digital lens shift both vertical and horizontal, UHD clarity, HDR10 support, HLG support, ease of operation make it a must have choice. I am using this in my home theater with a 110" acoustic mesh screen and the image produced is quite incredible. I highly recommend this product for any home theater enthusiast.

Very sharp picture quality. Excellent brightness and contrast ratio. Cannot beat the quality at the 3k price point. 4k upscaling truly looks 4k. I liked the brightness on this model more than sony’s entry level 4k projectors. Would highly recommend! Wish it came in black for the same price, but sill happy!

Be advised that there are a lot of additional items needed to make this work: Epson specific kit to to enable wifi, external speakers, cords to convert the available outlets on the projector to the external speakers (you can't just plug them in). It's a true home theater projector set-up. We bought it for a ceiling mounted basement projector, which it is not. The projector requires far too many additional items. We returned and purchased an all-in-one projector: wifi, bluetooth, speakers, movie theater picture quality.

Please note the following context of this review...
1) Big noticeable visual upgrade coming from Sanyo PLV 1080 to Epson 3020
2) From 3020 to 5030UBe, another noticeable difference
3) From 5030UBe to 5040UB, the 4k and increased lumens were pretty amazing -- worth every penny spent.
4) From 5040UB to 5050UB --> Keep the 5040UB and save the money. (Dare I say it, maybe even entertain getting the Epson 3800 over the 5050?? ) Although the contrast ratio doesn't match the 5050's, that 3000 lumens, Pixel Shift Gen 2 and Lens shift is tough to beat at $1700. As an owner of 5050 (and 5040), I think you won't miss anything unless you happen to be in an extremely dark room and performing a head-to-head comparo.
