Very good projector but falls short in a few areas
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my 5 th projector and the best I've had. I coming out of an epson 5030 that had 24000 hours on it. (Yes that's a lot ) and a 150 in screen. I was expecting a huge difference in picture quality and technology and while the picture is better it's not a night and day difference. The image is very bright. Enough lumens to punch through a lot of ambient light. I have a totally light controlled room but my wife likes some light on while we watch. I also host football almost every week and we have the lights turned up quite a bit. This projector handles the light with no problem. Color is very good right out of the box in several of the different color modes. Contrast and dark scenes are also very good. Much better than the epson 5030 I had before. I really enjoy the motorized lens. Makes set up very easy. Now to what I think could be better. The picture is not as sharp as some other projectors I have seen. Even some that are quite a bit cheaper. At my preferd sitting distance it doesn't really matter. However on my first row a seats it doesn't look as sharp as I think it should. It has some fast motion issues that don't seem to have improved much since my last projector. The better the quality of the signal you send its way, the better. It does great with 4K signals and good quality 1080p. Dish network not so much. But it's more to do with dish's bad signal compressions than the projector. Up converting to 4K is pretty good , about as good as my LG tv. It handles HDR pretty well with easy adjustability to fine tune the levels. Bottom line is , this is great projector for the money. A very well rounded unit that does everything well but not quite perfect in many areas . A lot of flexibility and more than enough light for almost any setup. I've put about 250 hrs on it and I am still very happy with my purchase.

Amazing picture and features!
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first projector. After doing exhaustive research for about a year, I decided on going with either the Epson 5050UB or Sony 295ES. I'm a huge 3D fan so brightness played a big role in my decision. The 5050UB is plenty bright! The 3D looks incredible, very immersive, depth and pop outs are amazing and the overall image is outstanding. The other feature that made me choose the 5050UB is the lens memory, switching between 16:9 and 2:35:1 format with the touch of a button. This is a very nice feature. And, of course, price. The 5050UB was HALF the price of the Sony 295ES. Sure, the Sony is a true 4k projector and the Epson is a pixel shifter, but I primarily watch Blu rays, which are 1080p, with a few 4k movies. Both blu rays and 4k discs look amazing. I can tell you after playing around with different settings and picture modes, the Epson throws a phenomenal image. Brightness, sharpness, contrast, colors - all incredible. When viewing the 4k video examples on YouTube (i.e. Costa Rica in 4k) the image looks like I'm looking at an OLED TV, no lie. If you're considering this projector, go for it. I have no complaints. I highly recommend.

Can’t beat price for 4K, HDR, 3D, and gaming
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Set up with an elite screens cinegrey 120 sable frame in an open 20x55x8ft tall rec room; 15’7” throw. With light controlled in the 20x20 theater area, but only blinds to the rear of the room, the screen still looks great. A little about me, I’m a 40ish dad with older teenagers. I love movies, and know a little about theater setups, but I did a lot of research when setting up my space and choosing my equipment. Took a bit to save up and gather the setup piece by piece, and am very discerning when it comes to value for my money. I did a ton of research and movie watching on other projectors both above and below the price for the 5050UB. I came to the conclusion that it can’t be beat in terms of value for performance. Even 3 years after release, this projector is still punching above it’s weight, keeping up with Sony and JVC units costing $2500 more in the categories of lens quality, adjustability/features, color accuracy, contrast, and beating them in brightness, which makes it better for 3D, and ambient light; and beating them in latency, making it useable for gaming. I debated holding out for an upgraded version, such as laser light source, or native 4K, but with the chip shortage, weak market, and a shift to UST projectors (and kids growing up fast), it doesn’t seem to be coming this year, if ever. For a dedicated theater setup, I’m glad I spent the extra $1000 over the epson4010, as the gray levels are far superior on the 5050UB. The $1200 price over even the latest 4K DLP gaming projectors from Optoma and BenQ is justified due to contrast and screen adjustment and lens features. Even though you give up latency and native 4K. A quick note about that, the tech articles saying HDR is more important than 4K are TRUE. Don’t get sucked into having to have native 4K at the expense of brightness/contrast/HDR. You can see a sharper picture, but what good is it if the image is washed out? The contrast on the 5050ub is great with dark shows like Harry Potter, LoTR, and Mandalorian. Even in the evenings when the light is coming through the windows 3D looks great with Avatar, Tron Leacy, and Pacific Rim. These bright colored/high contrast shows are worth watching in 3D over 4K versions. This projector shows 3D without a big dip in brightness. Picky teenagers still appreciate the 3D movies, so hopefully the format stays alive. Do an internet search for best 3d movies. Plenty of reputable tech sites with recommendations. Gaming has worked great for COD zombies on a Xbox oneS in full and split screen. No real noticeable lag. My son and I can get just as far on the projector as we can hooked up to his TV. This isnt scientific by any means, just a testament to usability. I haven’t tried twitch games like smash bros on Switch.

Best of the Best!!!!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wow. I just bought this instead of the LS11000 and I’m glad I did. The 3D is astounding. Much better than the last projector I had. I think it’s mainly because of the contrast. This projector is soooooo good. I love everything about. It’s also $1,500 cheaper than the Epson new laser projectors too. Every disc I have thrown at it looks amazing. This may be the last Epson projector with 3D, so if that’s important to you I would get this while you can. Very minimal crosstalk (adjustable in the settings). Every 3D tv I have owned always had some crosstalk regardless. It’s about as good as I have seen it though. You won’t regret it. Even dvds look good and I’m sitting 11ft from a 120” screen. 3d is not the most important aspect of this projector, but it did push me to get it. Also, it came with the latest firmware (104). No more iris pumping (looks like flicker). It just works, all of it. Placement is a breeze. All the zoom, focus, etc is done with the remote. The lens even opens and closes when you turn it on and off. Super premium. AND…edge to edge focus for real!!! I have struggled getting many previous projectors to focus. The corners are crisp!!! I did have to do a minor panel alignment, (it’s in the settings). They say sometimes the lcds can move around in shipping. I would have never noticed it had I not been looking for it. It was easy to do, and that worked too!!! All of it just works. Overall I am very happy to get this while they still make them. The sale price is a steal. If you buy this, you will not regret it. I am sooo happy I did. Oh, and it’s a little big, but the actual feet measure 11 inches out to out, so you can set it atop any shelf that’s at least 11.75” (could be a little less too). I just had to bump out my shelf 2-3 inches from the back wall. Looks great. LOVE IT.

Great Projector
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Awesome picture! Bright and clear even with some ambient light. This item replaced a previous Epson 1080P Projector that I've had for approx 10 yrs. One thing to check on before purchase is the size. It's a fairly good sized unit. If it fits for you then this is definitely the one to get; especially if you're affected by DLP side flickering. I've used this a month now and it continues to impress. I happen to like 3D movies and this one delivers exceptionally on that score (remember though that 3D is currently only at 1080P). I was lucky enough to get it on sale which I believe was a more realistic price point for this unit but it is a new model so the price hasn't really settled into it's grove. Either way it's an amazingly great system!!!!

Great picture!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Value for money I’m just not sure you can get a better projector. On sale this costs less than half what an entry level native 4K projector, but is that projector really twice as good? I’m sure it’s a better picture, sharper, deeper blacks and all that but more than twice? I doubt. I believe the law of diminishing returns applies. The picture this projector gives is amazing. The HDR, black levels and sharpness are magnificent. If you’re looking to spend under $5K this should definitely be on your short list.

First time owner of home projectors
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As a first time buyer of home projectors, I did my diligent research for weeks. I was supposed to settle on the Epson 3800 but it was out of stock with no definite date of availability. So I went higher up on the budget and got this instead. The main factor in making me choose this was its high lumens, I live in a well lit apartment with glass windows, so I needed something to be bright and doesn't wash out easily when there is light. I was comparing this with the other projectors with the similar price range, but this had a lot of connection slots, and the contrast ratio was amazing. I also watched a few youtube reviews on how the picture looks, even when this was compared to the higher end projectors, this faired better. The picture does get washed out if its in the middle of the day or so bright outside ( my blinds are not dark enough) but only for scenes in movies that are really dark in the first place. I tend to watch the news and other documentary stuff during the daytime and the picture quality is still good even when there is a lot of bright light coming in from windows. If its dusk or nighttime, forget it, you are in a movie theater....and I am pretty much a good judge as I am a big movie buff myself. I use this like I use my TV. I connected a ROKU in which I stream movies and shows. This doesn't come with a speaker. So I hook up my ROKU with my phone, and from my phone I connect to my bluetooth sound bar. I linked my cable box to the other HDMI port (yes, unfortunately, Im still using cable....still thinking of eventually cutting that off) Very satisfied with this purchase. Set-up was very easy. My 13yo son read the instructions and took him 10 minutes to do the connections. It is quite heavy though, so you need either a ceiling mount, or a stable base to put it on. Very quiet, you don't hear it running at all.

Delivers a real Home Theater Experience
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Super easy setup and picture is fantastic, I'm using in a very dark room but the brightness would probably be fine in a lighter environment. The 4K is spot on and colors are crazy good. Pair it with a Dolby Atmos sound system and try Dr. Strange, the colors (especially towards the end with the Dark Dimension) in HDR are nuts. A 103" screen and I feel like I have a legit movie theater in my basement. Extra bulbs don't look too bad (less than 100 bucks). Super happy with this purchase.

Excellent 4k Projector w/HDR
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I haven't come across many review comparing this projector to a new 4k TV, so I'll provide some clarity. I currently own a 82" Samsung (Late 2017), that has HDR10 and 4k resolution. I can tell you, if you are expecting to have the contrast and experience of a OLED or QLED TV, this will not be for you. If you want that kind of contrast, you'll need to have this in a pitch black room, think dedicated home theater. Now, for those that want a screen bigger than 82-85" and don't want to spend $10-70k for it, this is a pretty awesome solution. If you have the screen in a bright room, the picture will look washed out, even with the full dynamic brightness turned on. If you have a moderately bright room, it's great for watching sports or other content that is typically bright to begin with (not drama movies or movies with multiple dark scenes.) IF you have a room where you can control the ambient light, then there's no reason to look anywhere else. This projector is fantastic. I personally have this projector setup with a 106" screen in a dedicated theater area. The contrast is really good (not up to par with a OLED or QLED, but that's to be expected.) The brightness blew me away, and the HDR and colors after some calibration were breathtaking (cinema mode is best, native begins to wash out the HDR color) There are plenty of articles about calibration you can find by searching on google. For a projector of this quality, for under $3k, you will not be disappointed!

Brightness is great for any time or day watching. The motorized lens makes setup sooooo easy. Also 4K @60hz is good for 4K gaming on Xbox One X.

Great projector!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought to replace an old panasonic projector. I was debating on getting an 85” tv or this projector. So glad I went with this Epson! Picture is incredible! Im projecting onto an 106” white screen in a light controlled basement. One thing that kinda supprized me was how big this thing is, make sure you have room for it. I had to buy a new ceiling mount. The one for my old Panasonic wouldnt fit. Plenty bright, and great contrast!

Excellent projector
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Terrific projector. Lens shift feature is game changer. We've used this projector daily for 2 years with zero issues. Colors are vidid. Contrast is excellent. Details are crisp. This is NOT a small projector so be prepared for that. You will most likely want to ceiling mount it or place it on a sturdy shelf.

Great Projector For The Price.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Replaced my old Panasonic projector, and all I can say is "WOW"! This Epson blows my old panny away. It is definitely bright. Bright enough to watch with ambient lights (lamps) on. Plus, the colors and black levels are tremendous for a projector in this price range. The HDR, while not as good as my OLED TV, is good enough. Especially, since my TV isn't 100" big, like my screen. As for it being a 1080p double shifting 3LCD projector, so what! I really can not see much difference in resolution between my screen and my TV, at least not at 10 feet back. I would definitely recommend this projector for anyone with a budget under $4000. It is a must for movie watching. My 65" TV is less than half as big as my projector screen, and for watching movies, the size of the screen makes the cost truly worth it. In addition, watching cable/satellite is great too. This projector even makes 1080i broadcast signals look great. Can't wait for the Super Bowl. Do yourself a favor, and check out this Epson 5050ub before improving your home theater. You won't be sorry!

Excellent quality!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First time owner of a projector and read some reviews on other projectors but ultimately chose this one because it was a newer version with some better upgrades. The quality of this projector is amazing, when you place it with quality projector paint it looks just like a 4k tv, Put this side by side with a tv and you could not tell the difference. It is a big projector and so I was worried about the noise from the fan. Not an issue, The fan is quite and the only time you could hear it is if you did not have your surround sound running. Recommend for anyone looking to improve there theater room!
