Bought this projector a month ago to replace a 10 year old Epson HD projector. Really great to watch 4K movies now on my home theater with superb black levels. Satisfied with its performance so far.

This model projector has an incredible image and significant adjustability. Focusing, keystone adjustment, and shifting the lens is precise. The projector is quite bulky but it seems to have better heat control than previous models.

Please note the following context of this review...
1) Big noticeable visual upgrade coming from Sanyo PLV 1080 to Epson 3020
2) From 3020 to 5030UBe, another noticeable difference
3) From 5030UBe to 5040UB, the 4k and increased lumens were pretty amazing -- worth every penny spent.
4) From 5040UB to 5050UB --> Keep the 5040UB and save the money. (Dare I say it, maybe even entertain getting the Epson 3800 over the 5050?? ) Although the contrast ratio doesn't match the 5050's, that 3000 lumens, Pixel Shift Gen 2 and Lens shift is tough to beat at $1700. As an owner of 5050 (and 5040), I think you won't miss anything unless you happen to be in an extremely dark room and performing a head-to-head comparo.

Replaced my old Epson 8350 with this unit. Great upgrade. I’m really happy with the color, depth and clarity of this projector right out of the box. Running it through the Denon av receiver. All components are 4K compatible so the quality of the picture I’m getting is much better than 1080

I am in awe of this projector, easy to set up, the range of the lens shift is no joke... it allowed an amateur like me to replace an older projector and not have to worry that the projector was going to be in a poor position or need a lot of adjustment

Had an Epson 5030ub. Moved up to the 5050ub and it's great especially with the use of motorized lens adjustment can't beat the eaze use. The black levels are great, and with the 4k pixel shifting you can not tell it's a native 4k projector.

Amazing how great this projector performs right out of the box, without any picture adjustments. Most home owners won't need to spend a penny to hire a professional to calibrate because it's just not necessary, unless you're a true videophile. Even then I don't expect the difference to be very noticeable. And it's incredibly quiet. Our couch is directly beneath it and I can't hear a thing even with the audio off. Remote is easy to use and buttons are backlit. Overall a great value even for the most advanced home theater owners.

Have only used it upon delivery for inspection against a beige painted wall. I was impressed by the image quality without using a projector screen. A wide availability of image adjustments make for an awesome time if you’re into those things like me. I can’t wait for final install once theatre room is complete and will update accordingly.

As an OLED owner is was reluctant to get a projector because I expected poor black levels and contrast. I was also concerned about perceived sharpness with pixel shift 4k.
This projector far exceeds my expectations. Black levels and shadow details are really good. Not OLED level, but are on par with my local theater. I have a 120" screen and sit 10ft away, and I have no issues with sharpness on 4K bluray movies.
Highly recommended for mid range projector customers looking to get into 4k projectors without breaking the bank.

This thing is a beast. 4k and HDR images are stunning and it runs extremely quiet when in eco or medium power settings. With High you start to hear the fans more, but is still surprisingly quiet. So far, I love it!

I was really hesitant about buying a projector since you cant see the quality picture anywhere local! I was unsure if the picture quality was going to be close to my 65” Sony. I finally found someone I know that had one and was able to see the picture. Still wasn’t perfect since they were just shooting g the picture on a white wall. I splurged and bought the epson and I love it!! I will say that I have an actual media room, no windows! I would not care for it if I had windows where light could shine in! Light really distorts the picture!! I’ve used the projector now for a couple months and it’s everything I wanted!

Fantastic projector for the price. Picture rivals native 4K projectors. Bright and could be used in rooms with less than optimal light control.
