Works but not a great buyer experience

I bought an Epson V370 flat bed scanner from Best Buy ( in case I had to return it as some reviews stated poor QC). Setting it up has been an awful experience and as far as I'm concerned it does not work as any reasonable customer would expect. At first Win 7 recognized that a new USB device was connected to the buss but it told me it was an unrecognized device and could not be accessed. After 1/2 hour wait and talk with an Epson person I got it working. He suggested that I change the USB cable and when I did that the device was recognized properly. All I did was exchange the USB cables on the scanner and printer, which was working fine so I knew its USB cable was good. Also, the USB cable I originally used for the scanner was previously hooked up to my now defunct HP scanner and it worked fine in that application. So now by simply switching cables both scanner and printer work. One step for mankind. I can scan documents and make files by using the Epson scanner software. They have a utility called "Copy" and that works to make copies. But the "Copy" function button on the scanner does nothing. After another 1/2 hour telephone call with an Epson person I was told that that function button works ONLY WITH CERTAIN EPSON PRINTERS! Unacceptable, but I can do nothing about it. The unit seems to work fine with the software and it just means making a copy is a little bit more trouble than simply pushing a button on the scanner. I'll live with that, I guess. Also, as others have commented, the software is really lame and old fashioned and not highly transparent or functional. The manual had insufficient information for me to get anywhere without the hour's worth of telephone calls. In all not an acceptable experience.

I'm in the process of scanning old family photos to digital and trying to organize and reduce things. I previously purchased an Ion scanner that was plenty fast but not friendly with odd sized photos. The "slip a photo in the slot" thing was easy but if they weren't the right size they would drop out and jam up the system. I also noticed a background anomaly in the scanned photos due to the light intensity and background. When that unit choked on a jammed photo and the SD memory card slot broke while opening it I ordered a Canoscan 5600F from eBay. That was a total mistake!!! The Canoscan wasn't Windows 7 friendly at all and the drivers were impossible to load. I finally went back to Best Buy and found this unit. I love it!!! Yes, it's a bit slower but it's easy to use, works well, and instinctively crops the odd shaped photos perfectly saving me lots of time!!! I like it a lot......

I don't do anything fancy with my scanner - I scan documents and photos into JPG files. I don't need a lot of fancy features. While I'm not a light user, I don't push my scanner too hard. My prior scanner was an HP scanner. It was slow and clumsy, and broke down a little over a year after I purchased it. I looked a HP models for a replacement, but wasn't thrilled by what I saw. Then, I spotted this Epson scanner. I seemed to have the features I care about and I liked the price. So far, it has met, if not exceeded, my expectations. It was simple to install and simple to use. Scan quality is everything I need. I do have a complaint - and this is the reason why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 stars. I've had a couple of occasions where the scanner drivers seem to conflict with my printer drivers. I had to turn off the scanner and restart the computer, then everything worked fine. Since this seems to be a rare event, it doesn't take away my enjoyment of the scanner. I am happy with the purchase and hove no problem recommending this scanner.

I have several thousand slides from "the day" and I've tried to scan them in the past with limited success. This scanner is magnificent. Using the color restoration feature on Full Auto yields crisp sharp images with color that looks like it was taken yesterday even with slides from the 1940's which my parents took. When scanning old photos the scanner does a great job and, again, I'm very impressed with both the hardware and software that does color correction on old photos that have yellowed or faded with time. Of course nothing in this world is perfect. If you don't leave sufficient space between photos on the scanner bed in Full Auto mode it will read multiple pictures as one image. But that is the only problem of major note. The only problem of minor note is that when Full Auto mode reads a black and white image as a color image you sometimes need to be patient because it takes some extra time to finish the processing of the image.

I received a large quantity of slides from my father that need to be digitized. So far, I've scanned about 650 slides. These slides date from the early 1950's to the early 1980's. Others in the family have tried to scan these slides and the results were poor, at best; this scanner has far exceeded their efforts. While it is not a replacement for a good photo editor, the scanner does a great job of removing "dust" and correcting the color. My only complaint is the limited options for slide sizes. Some of the early slides are very large. I had to scan them 4 times (once each corner) and then "stitch" them together (with supplied software) to make a complete picture. While it was a tedious process, I was able to digitize them. I have not scanned any pictures yet, so I can't comment on that.

Got this to convert all of my mothers photo albums and old photographs to digital format So that they will be preserved. I have an all-in-one printer/fax/scanner but it is not flat and would possibly damage the photos as they were run through. This one wasn't the cheapest one available, but I am very happy with the performance and quality for the price.... The higher the resolution the slower it goes which is to be expected. And the highest setting shows flaws in the originals but if you try different resolutions you can see what works best for your desired outcome..

I've been planning to scan in the many old slides I have to pass along to the kids and gain some storage space. I finally got moving and bought the Epson V370 scanner. So far I've done over 650 slides with no problems. I've been able to get rid of 12 slide carousels and am enjoying my trip down memory lane. The unit is very easy to use and scans four slides at a time. That tends to be slow but I'm retired so this is more hobby than task. Next up is running these through PhotoShop then to thumb drives for me and the kids. Good product and I definitely would recommend it to others. !

I have only spent a handful of hours using this scanner so far, so I'll probably have to update this review later. However, my initial thoughts are that it's not as easy and magical as I hoped. The software was pretty easy to install. Basic scanning is easy. If the picture is great already, simple. The problems I'm having are in fixing old photos. The auto fixing settings do not look good. I can go in and tweak each photo, but that is taking a lot of time, and I have boxes of family photos to scan. So, I'm hoping that with more practice and messing with settings I will find a better, faster, easier way to make my old pics look great.

The V370 is a nice scanner. Installation on an iMac with OSX Mavericks was pretty straight forward and we were scanning in minutes. The scanner seems slower than others I have used and the initial start up time seems to take forever. When you start a scan it usually tells you it will take 3 Minutes (luckily it usually only takes about a minute). Scanning slides and negatives is nice, but I could not find an easy way to scan large format negatives. Provided software feels outdated and not at all mac-like.

I have owned and used this scanner for a week and cannot say enough good things about it. I am using it to scan in photos from my photo albums, to preserve them and send them electronically to my children. It scans fairly quickly, especially since you can do more than 1 photo each time. The quality of scanned photos is excellent. Directions to use the scanner are very simple, clear and easy to follow. A bonus is having the slide/negative scanning capability as well. Scanning in our slides will be my next project!

I bought this scanner to scan my slide collection. The reviews were good but did not specifically address slide scanning. The area scanned does not cover the full slide and crops depending on orientation. Also it is very slow, about four minutes per set of four slides. I have not tried any other scans and it may very well work fine on them but for slides it is a bad choice. Get a dedicated slide scanner. I may update this review if I have better luck scanning other projects in the future.

The scanner is easy to install and use. One of the big features that I like is the ability to place multiple photos on the scanner bed and with the touch of a button the photos are scanned in and separated into their own pdf. You do need to be careful to maintain a space of at least 1/4 inch around the outside of each photo for this feature to work consistently. It is a little slow, especially if there are multiple objects being scanned.

I had a learning curve because I was only familiar with an old HP 3970 Scanjet. The software is quite different. I scanned a few prints with this new Epson 370 and my sister sent me some old 35mm slides to scan. I haven't tried scanning a high quality print yet, but the 35mm slides came out extremely clear. I got this Epson 370 at Best Buy for the same price that the three offices stores were charging for an Epson 37.

I purchased this scanner after returning an HP that didn't go so well. I love it. My main use is to scan in B&W Neg Film strips. For 5, it took me literally a little under 20mins & that's at a resolution of 2400. Pretty impressive. It looks nice, doesn't take up much space, & best of all works with OSx 10.9. The software it comes with is compatible up to 10.8 but you can just go to the epson website and download the driver for 10.9 from there. Great buy & most of the best buy stores have it at $99.99.

This scanner is able to scan documents, photos and 35 MM slides and film. The scanner does a decent job of scanning any of these types of media and allows you to save as a JPEG or PDF file. You can also scan to a variety of cloud services. a suite of software is provided to help work with and manage scanned images. This scanner is a good value for what it features and compares favorably with other, more expensive scanners.

Purchased this scanner to begin the massive project of digitizing all my old photos. The ease of use is a huge factor in rating it 5 stars. After playing around with it a few times, I found it to be both user friendly and with great end results. It's nice not having to sacrifice one for the other. If you're looking to digitize negatives and slides, this scanner makes it super easy. Easy to use with great results. What more could you want?

Bought unit to digitize old B&W negative, color negatives, 35 mm slides and (many) family photos (snap shots). Set up was easy, even for an old f*rt like me. Very easy to use. Resolution excellent (for my purposes). Automatically converted negative to positives and preserved fine grain photos (K25 slides). Scanned over 400 images of various sorts to date. Also scanned passport and passport photo form a friend ...excellent resolution. I am very pleased with this unit.

Great for travel. It's light, portable and easy to store. When you are visiting relatives that have stacks of old family photos, all you need is your laptop and the Epson Perfection V370. You can scan and save those precious photos of generations of old photos. Then you can correct faded colors, scratches, creases, dust, etc. without paying for professional photo restoration. This scanner will save you $$$.

I've been using an Epson printer-scanner for years. When that scanner finally wore out, I read some scanner reviews & decided to upgrade to a dedicated Epson Scanner. I'm scanning my original watercolors to prepare for digital reproduction & am thrilled with the results. Eventually, I need to start scanning 35mm slides, too.

I wanted a scanner to convert my 35mm slides to digital, but also be able to convert old photos and scan documents. The quality and detail of slide and photo to digital format is disappointing. Also, the speed is slow because the max number of slides accommodated at one time is 4 and photos and documents are one at a time at a slow pace. But the price is attractive. There are many products out there for these projects. This is not recommended.
