I am very happy with my purchase. The scanner is fast, great quality, and easy to use. The reason I picked this scanner was because of its size and how lightweight it is. I'm very pleased.

This portable flatbed scanner is perfect for my purpose. It is lightweight, scans relatively quickly. Allows for previews and some photo correction. So far I only have used for photos but I am sure a document would be as good if not better. It is good quality for the price.

I did a great deal of research before choosing this scanner and I was not disappointed. Epson has a solid reputation for its quality and performance and they proved it to me after doing my first test scan. The scan actually looked better than the print I had!
If I was going to say something negative I would say that I don't like all the plastic and would question its durability in the long haul, but, after all, it is an relatively inexpensive scanner.
If you are looking for an inexpensive scanner and are on a budget than this scanner would be a solid choice.

I bought this flatbed scanner for the sole purpose of scanning old family photos. Initially I started scanning pictures one at a time, and then I got tired of that so I put three or four in thinking I would just crop and separate them later... the scanner automatically recognized there were multiple pictures and separated them as it went. There have been a few times that the scanner would cut off half a picture, and a few times it has had an issue connecting with my computer, but all in all it is a good scanner. I'm not crazy about the software behind it in that you have to keep opening up the program instead of just telling it to scan the next item, but it automatically saves the file in the format you have preset.

The V39 is a basic scanner. It appears to be the same as the V19 with some extra software included. It will probably suit the occasional user, but it is clear that Epson cut some corners to save a few cents. The USB-to-micro USB cable that comes with it is about 4 feet long - not nearly long enough to reach from the desk to the back of a tower computer on the floor with enough room to move the computer to plug it in. Plan to buy your own cable. This scanner doesn't have a power button. It gets its power from the USB connection (no separate power supply), so if you care about products that use energy when they aren't needed, or if you care that it will drain your laptop battery even when you don't need the scanner, this is a bad design. (Epson says you can unplug the USB cable when it isn't needed. Really?) The top and sides of the scan are cropped by about 1/8 inch, and this can't be changed. Would it have hurt to design it with another 1/8 inch of travel so the scan shows the entire document on the glass? I guess that's just another penny-pinching design choice. Scans from this scanner are more washed-out than scans from my old Microtek scanner, but keeping the Microtek wasn't an option because there wasn't a Win7 driver for it. Maybe I can adjust the settings to get better scans, but that precludes using the basic Auto settings. Scan time is 10 seconds (300 dpi) or 30 seconds (600 dpi), but that is a published spec, so I knew that before buying it. If you do lots of scanning, you may want something faster. In summary, if you need a scanner infrequently, and you are primarily scanning documents, then this should be fine, but if you will use it more often or will primarily use it for photo scanning, I suggest spending a bit more for a different model.

This scanner is very easy to set-up and use. We were scanning old pictures within minutes of getting it out of the box. Don't expect it to do a lot of fancy corrections, it's not designed for that.
I like how it can recognize the boarder on images, and separate multiple pictures on the glass into individual images. if they fit without touching, you can move quickly through 3-4 images at a time.
The build is almost entirely plastic, which not unexpected, does give it a slightly cheaper feel. This keeps the cost down, but it does feel like it's more fragile than other scanners. No issues with build quality so far.

Bought this to supplement the all-in-one printer scanner we already own. The scanner works great and is easy to set up and use. It's a little slow but for $99, I have no complaints (that's the reason for the 4 star rating).
Positives - Super affordable, good quality scans, simple to set up and use
Downsides - a little slow especially at resolutions higher than 600 dpi, it can't scan 8 1/2 x 14 sheets or other larger format documents.
Overall, for a simple, basic, affordable scanner I would recommend this device.

Was collecting photos of a family member to put together a slide show of her life for her 75th birthday. The scanner worked very well and relatively quickly, especially in the automatic mode. Just place the photo on the screen and push a single button. It is also very convenient to be able to stand the unit up when using it as it makes changing photos easy. Did 165 photos quickly and easily. Would recommend this scanner based on price and functionality.

I bought the color scanner to start the huge process of scanning old family photos 1920s through 1940s all in black and white. I have scanned 100 so far--8x10 to small photo booth photos. Also some are faded or torn. I have used other scanners before but wasn't sure if this was up to the task of scanning so many. I am glad I purchased it. I have used some scanners that freeze up and you have to shut down and restart. That has only happened a few times out of 100. I think it has more to do with user error! I highly recommend this scanner. It is a great value.

This is a good basic scanner.
The resolution is fine for my purposes, mainly text. The scan is a bit slower and noisier than my Epson V700, but it's not objectionable. The option buttons allow scanning to email, pdf, etc., which will be convenient for many, but require the installation of optional, supplied, software. I opted to use my Mac's Image Capture to do these tasks and did not use the extra software.
The scanner is powered by a standard USB port, which conveniently eliminates an external power supply. The USB cable is supplied with the scanner. (But newer Macs with only Thunderbolt/USB C ports will require a cable adapter.)
My main use for this scanner is to scan text documents to PDF and then FAX them using my US Robotics 5637 USB Fax Modem. Note to Mac users: You can't use a USB FAX modem on MacOS Sierra, but you can on El Capitan and earlier. (Ask Apple)
In summary, this is a very good scanner and a good value.

This was recommended by a Best Buy associate. It was easy to connect and start using. I did check the online instructions to find out you can take the lid off to place large documents on it to scan. Haven't used the editing tools yet but if they are as easy to understand as the rest, shouldn't be a problem.
It is large if you need to carry it around. But I wanted it to copy old family documents and pictures and they would not have fit in the standard portable scanners. Although large, it is light weight.

This is my 1st scanner I have bought, as I used to use one at my office...now that I retired from there, I needed one for myself. I was just wanting one for occasional document scanning & maybe photos also. Obviously for this price, you're not getting one loaded with features...but you ARE getting one that's easy for non-techie's to use, as well as great scan quality, which were my 2 main objectives. Also takes up little space & only requires a USB connection to computer. (yes, no power switch, but I'm using it on a desktop, so not an issue for me) I'll echo what others said re: cutting off of edges; I learned to compensate when I place docs on the glass. While it doesn't have to "warm-up" per se, it does take a tad longer than other scanners; again, not a biggie for occasional use. I've only had it a couple weeks & have only used it on docs; I haven't tried pics yet, so I can't comment on that.
Very pleased with it overall.

I highly recommend this scanner. It is easy to use, the resolution produces great copies of photos. I have been scanning old photos for genealogy as they are great. The scanner is easy to set up. You can fill the screen with photos and the scanner recognizes each photo so you can scan several photos at one time. It is wireless so you just plug it into a USB port on your computer and start scanning. I feel very confident you will not be sorry when you make this purchase.

Pro: you can put a lot of pictures on the scanner and the scanner will scan them indvidually. Con: if you wanted to scan a scrapbook page, you have to play with the setting options (I chose magazine) to prevent the scanner from breaking up all the pieces.
Other people have commented that it is loud, it definitely is.
Also, others have commented about the need to reload the program. It happens consistently. I may be able to scan 4ish pages before it stops recognizing a new page, so I have to close and reopen the program. Since I have time during the covid, I put up with it.
Overall, a good product priced right
Nice and light

It's been a long time since I've had to use a flatbed scanner, so I didn't have very high expectations when I purchased this one. However, I was pleasantly surprised with the ease of use, and the software on this thing. Particularly that it is smart enough to let you put multiple pictures on the scan bed, and create separate image files for each one. This works surprising well. Also, it's very thin and light, so it fits in my laptop backpack no problem. Great value here.

Purchased to replace an older model that does not work with Windows 10; this one does. Scanner works well, very small footprint and easy to stow away. Works off of the USB power so it does not require an AC power adapter. Scan quality is good. I still prefer the older models than these new LED models but it was fully compatible with Windows 10.

A lightweight basically portable scanning unit that scans and transfers to computer at a good speed and allowing review of scanned items. Purchased mainly for scanning and archiving older photographs. Ideal for intended application. Not as fancy as more expensive units but still durable and the cost is very reasonable.
