Great scanner for home use for photo and document
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this scanner because my old multipurpose one died. I wanted something that would perform well for scanning prints, slides, and negatives as well as documents. Haven't done a whole lot with it yet, but setup was a breeze and some test scans came out great.

No complaints.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The scanner more or less exceeded my expectations. Can't believe how well it turns negatives into positives. The film/slide scanner bed holders work, but make handling film negatives and positive slides awkward at best. Scanning software waits for a mouse/pad move before moving to the next picture. This should be an easy fix for Epson and they need to do it.

Nice Upgrade Over Previous Versions
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Compared to the Perfection 4490 I had this V550 is a welcome upgrade. From the fast/no warm up to the overall construction this is a much nicer scanner. If you had a previous model you'll notice right away that the power button has changed to a push button vs. the old toggle switch. The biggest difference for me is the lid of the scanner, my previous model you would lift it up and it would almost snap into place to hold it up, this would jar the whole scanner moving whatever you were scanning sometimes causing it to be miss aligned. Also be sure not to press too hard when cleaning the glass surface, on my previous model the clips holding the glass in place eventually broke off and the adhesive gradually became loose enough to where the scanner unit was getting stuck on the glass.

The reason you buy a separate scanner!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a kick-butt scanner, well worth the price, able to handle a big load of pictures and negatives in a reasonable period of time. Pictures -- easy. Negatives -- the only 'negative' is the tray -- which is totally excellent for orientation and position of negatives within AND position in the scanner AND orientation reminder -- but it is just a little clunky getting them secured with the plastic retention piece. If you are scanning massive numbers, buy another tray so you can flip them in and out without wasting time exchanging negatives serially. Software -- excellent to have fully functional software for mac without compromises! Color correction on old pictures : AMAZING!!! Preserve and restore your family history! I love my V550. CHEERS to EPSON for a fine product.

Great Scanner
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Moving to Windows 10 on a Surface Pro forced me to give up my old Epson Scanner. This new unit has worked great. There were no compatibility problems with the newer OS and hardware and the updated EpsonScan software was easy to transition to (very few changes from the original EpsonScan). This unit definitely is better in handling documents that are placed at the edges of the scanner bed. I love the increased resolution. Scanning speed is a little better but it is still limited to a USB 2.0 interface. Unless you need a sheet-feeder, this is a solid, hi-res unit at a VERY reasonable price.

Nice Scanner to go digital w/boxes of family fotos
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We purchased this scanner because it has high enough resolution to capture old family photos, and digitize them for ease of future viewing. Right now, my wife is diligently converting boxes of photos and making albums- The best part, we can throw out the originals - The scanner sets up instantly and is easy to use - Images are great - We do need a back up portable hard drive (or a cloud back up) to protect our work - checking on those options now.

No competition
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Don,t know of any other photo scanners of this quality in this price range. Easy set up with Windows 8.1, lots of control over the scan process and excellent scan results. I am using it to scan old prints. Have not scanned transparencies.

Makes old pics young again
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Needed to scan in thousands of old family and vacation pics, negs, and slides. What a surprise when the scanned picture is better than the original. It worked so well my neighbor ran home and brought me some of her ancient B&W's to scan. Sure it's another piece of hardware on the desk, but what a joy to see my photo history both rejuvenated and shareable!

Prefect scanner at the prefect price.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall great scanner. All scans are clear, most look better than the original. Scans full photos, negative's, and old projector slides with ease. You will not be disappointed. Software was very easy to install and operate.

Excellent photo scanning quality.
||Posted . Owned for 8 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Another Epson hit. Got this scanner to replace a very old Epson scanner that was 15+ years old. It would leave various lines across my scans. If I reseated the ribbon cable going to the scan head it would be okay for a while but would always come back with light use. I was considering replacing the cable but had a large photo scan project that came up suddenly. Decided to just get a newer scanner since it would have better resolution with new technology. The photo scanning quality and color is excellent. I wish that I had upgraded much sooner. I still edit my photo scans in Photoshop but it is minimal compared to using my old Epson scanner. I have not used the film, negative or 35mm slide features yet even though I have a box of old negatives I wanted to archive. The Epson scan software that comes with it is great for scanning physical photos and for text documents. I've found that the software you use can make a big difference in your final scans. I've compared various 'scan to pdf' documents in Abby (various versions) and Acrobat Pro (various versions) and they produce very difference quality results. I like the Acrobat pdf a little better but not enough to justify the increased file size. I also found scanning to a pdf on a multi-function copier produces the smallest file size with the sharpest text image and much better gray scale reproduction. But I expect that out of a $20K+ machine. Unfortunately the copier cannot OCR so I must manually do that in Abby or Acrobat.

Works well as a 35mm scanner
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the scanner to scan old 35mm slides. it does this well in addition to scanning pictures and documents. It's reasonably priced for what it does. It's not terribly fast, but does a good job producing high quality images.

Scans slides beautifully
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this scanner for the primary purpose of scanning color slides for digitization. The scanner is extremely easy to use, and relatively fast. I highly recommend it. It also does negatives and pictures (both color and B&W). The only downside is, that you cannot load slides into an extra sleeve while current ones are scanning, as they sit directly on the glass. Excellent choice, and I'm a happy customer.

Great scanner for home use
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this scanner for home use. I found that it is well made and easier to use than I thought it would be. I did not consider before my purchase that I could e-mail documents, but I did e-mail a document with ease.

Great scanner
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have used this scanner now for a few weeks and am very happy with it. Installation of software and documentation was easy. I have scanned documents, photos and slides. I have found it to be easy to use, and I am happy with the results. I would recommend this scanner over a multifunction printer that requires ink even when only wanting a scanner.

Great scanner for converting slides
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this to replace an older Epson model. So far I have been quite impressed with its ability to scan old slides. No "warm-up" time is great! I haven't had problems with slow scanning as some have, but I might be scanning at a lower resolution. Does an okay job at color correction tho some of our older stuff needs to be worked on in our photo-editing program (which doesn't come with the scanner package). Only "not so great" is the loading of the scanner. If the tray for the slides is just a tad "off", it's a problem. But I chalk that up to user error rather than scanner error. All-in-all a great scanner for the price. Got it on sale, so it definitely was a great buy!
