Needed to scan 20 of mom's old photo albums, 2,000+ photos in all and this was completed in 21 hours. Took this long because pictures were glued on to the pages and had to be removed first. Epson V550 made this task possible due to its updated features and scanning was a breeze!

This scanner is everything I had hoped it would be. It scans slides with a quality that is what I was looking for. Colors and resolution are perfect. It even seems to hide the dust or other marks. It took a few minutes to learn how to use the templates with the different scanning options but after that i was able move through scanning photos and slides rapidly. I saw questions about wireless scanning. This is NOT wireless. It uses a standard USB printer cable which is included.

I got this scanner to save old photos to digital files and also to scan negatives and slides. So far I have only done some old photos. It has been easy to do, and scans quickly. Using Windows 7 Pro on a Thinkpad T410. I chose this scanner because I thought it was the model my scrapbooking buddy had done all her work on, years of old prints. She actually has the V330, which is thinner. I will say that this V550 is a challenge to put back in the box and take on the road for a weekend workshop.

It can scan a lot of photo format including slides and negatives. It doesn't take a lot of time to learn how to use the scanner.

Have scanned a number of 35 mm slides. Scan quality is remarkable. Love how it scans and recognizes multiple objects on the platen and creates separate files for each. Would definitely purchase again.

Versatile, reliable scanner for negatives, prints and slides. I wish it would hold more slides, but it does a good job digitizing everything. The dust removal and repair functions add significant time to the scan process, but are generally very good - some loss of sharpness. Not quite as amazing in removing dust and scratches as advertised, but good enough.

GREAT IMPROVEMENT

I bought an Epson Photo Scanner a few years ago, and was pleased with it. but as computers improved, I decided to upgrade the scanner to this one, hoping for faster scanning speeds. I was not disappointed. And it even has a few nice improvements to the software. One big improvement involves issues where the scanner is unable to differentiate between negatives (I have several from Antarctica and McMurdo; lots of white). So when viewing thumbs, they are fragmented. Two negatives (medium format) becomes 3 or 4. But if I select 'full', I see the strip as it was scanned. I can then use the mouse to select the borders of each slide, then hit scan. I now end up with the full negative/image. Also, in this mode, you can still use the image enhancers. So, needless to say, I am very happy with the speed of the scanner, as well as the software.

I'm compiling our family photos and so far I've scanned both prints and negatives using this scanner. The scans are nearly the same quality as the original photos. The scanner is a little slow (especially with negatives), but to speed up the process I scan multiple pictures at once according to theme/event. I plane to use the snipping tool if I ever need to print or use them individually. I've scanned both35mm negatives and from some old 110 cameras. The 110 negatives take some maneuvering. The one problem I'm having, is figuring out the correct way to seat the negatives for the proper orientation. The "shiny side" isn't always apparent to me, but I guess that's more of a user issue. I haven't used any of the advanced features yet, but there are some older photos that need correction, so I imagine that I will soon.

As someone involved in a years-long project of converting slides (several sizes) into digital files, I need a high quality scanner that is versatile and yet easy to use. This Epson fits the bill perfectly. It replaces a 14-year-old Epson with similar features but is much faster and more flexible in use. Highly recommended.

I bought this scanner to digitize about 1000 photographic slides that my father and grandfather took from the 1930's through the 1960's. It scans 4 at a time in a special frame (included with the scanner). The software that comes with the scanner has various capabilities to correct for faded colors, backlighting, under- and over-exposure, and scratches/dust on the slides. You can also set the parameters for the pixels of the digital scan to get very high quality, or lower quality if that's all you need. It's exactly what I was looking for. I'm about halfway through the 1000 slides and everything is going well with good results. I've also scanned a few dozen photos and am very happy with the results of those too. I wish the frame for the slides held more than 4 slides and that the scanner worked more quickly, but I have no issues with the resulting digital scans.

Easy to set up and use. Love all the features and that I can scan 4 photos at once. I also used it to scan some old negatives (the small square ones you viewed on a projector- can’t remember what they’re called) great results. I love having my photos on my computer to not only look at but to solve arguments about who, when, where with just a few clicks. Also love to send old pictures in my emails to friend s and family.

Scanner has great resolution, but is slightly big and heavy. Software could use some updating.
