Great scanner, I purchased this for a blind elderly lady enrolled in a Masters class. She uses it to "read" her books.

I was still using an old HP flatbed scanner for 15 years. Wanted to try a new one and this model seem adequate. Turns out to be a very pleasant surprise in how well it performed. Easy to setup. Easy to use. And got beautiful results. Great scanner for a great price point. You will NOT be disappointed.

Best scanner that I've ever used

My previous scanners have all been HP. I currently use a Mac computer. My last HP scanner was working well but I upgraded to "Mavericks" and it was no longer compatible. I went to HP for their patch and to my surprise there was none. Epson was recommended to me and when I went to Epson's website, I found that Epson had a patch for their product.
My Epson V550 is great! It scans anything including 35mm film negatives, 35mm color slides and 2.25" film negatives. The scanner doesn't require a warm-up period. The results are terrific. Best scanner that I've ever used.
Setup was easy but I do recommend that you telephone tech support to help, if needed. My daughter is now the owner of my past HP and had it not been for my upgrade to Mavericks I never would have tried this V550. It's a win-win for us.

A replacement for my EPSON V500

My previous EPSON Perfection V500 just up and died suddenly after only a few years of light use, so I wanted a replacement photo scanner with similar features and pricing. The EPSON V550 seemed to be the go-to scanner in the marketplace for home/small office use based on reviews. Plus, Best Buy offered a sale discount of $20 and a price match discount of $14. The V550 differs from the V500 in the way you load film and photos onto the scanning glass, using a plastic frame that snaps into the lid rather than a frame that rests on the glass directly. Also, the feature to scan documents into word-searchable images seems to be part of the separate but included ABBYY software (v9.0), rather than an checkbox option within the EPSON SCAN software that used ABBYY (v6.0) during scanning. Otherwise, the software and user interface operate just like the V500. After removing the previous EPSON V500 software I installed the V550 without issue on a Windows 7 PC. I checked the EPSON support website and noticed a number of software version updates available for download, possibly to support Windows 10.

I needed to scan all the old family photos for my new growing family. It worked like a charm. The auto mode was wonderfu for new color photos. The professional mode is perfect for the old damaged photos from the past. I would recommend this easy to use scanner to anyone.

After reading previous reviews I bought this scanner and was happy that the reviews were right. It's very easy to use, and fast. The software makes it very easy to edit my old slides so they look the way they should. I highly recommend this scanner.

I bought the Epson V600 but returned it due to red lines appearing in my scans. Best Buy did not carry the V600 any longer so I purchased the V550 which is an updated version. I have to say the quality is the same but the ICE function is applied only to scans of negatives on the V550. The V600 does ICE on photos and negatives. I read the reviews on the V550 and this is a solid scanner. May features allow different level of scans. It made scans of my wife’s pictures when she was a toddler and now we have digital copies of hers and mines. For less than $150 bucks you can’t go wrong. Sending your photos out to get them scanned by someone can be risky. They can get lost in the mail or the person scanning can damage them or lose them. Better to do it yourself. Read the reviews from other web sites and you’ll see what I mean. Get one while they are still available you won’t be disappointed. BEST...!

The scanner performs pretty well in its price range and category (though I haven't tried slides or negatives yet). If I use the provided software, I have to relaunch it on my iMac for each scan. But other scanning programs don't seem to give me the control of resolution the included sw does.

I haven't had a chance to scan photos or negatives yet. The slides I scanned turned out good. The scanner is easy to use, but a little slow. My last scanner was an Epson and I loved it. Unfortunately, it would not work with my current laptop. I am expecting this one to be equally satisfactory.

I purchased this to digitize my old photo collection. Easy to set up. However found out the buttons on the scanner are not compatible with El Capitan OS after calling tech support. Still works fine from the laptop. High quality scans for an excellent price.

We have a large box of pictures from way back and wanted to also have our pictures in digital mode, so we bought this photo scanner. Now we have all our pictures backed up. It is great. Easy to use, and really good quality.
