I compared the Epson 5030UB to the Sony and Panasonic projectors of the same price range. I chose the Epson because of several factors. The bulb is rated at about 4000 hours. There is not much difference in light output in the ECO mode, which also would extend the life of the bulb. I also found that the cost of the replacement bulb was less than the others. This unit also has lens shift and keystone adjustments which make it very easy to align with the screen without moving the whole unit on its mounting. The unit also has motion interpolation modes, but not at levels that create that soap opera effect. Just enough to smooth the action and reduce blur.
The menus are easy to use, and allow more changes than the average person will ever use. The picture quality was excellent right out of the box. I do recommend the picture dynamic setting for best brightness and picture. I am using a 120 in , 1.8 gain, light rejecting screen by Elite, in a light controlled room. The projector is 15 feet away from the screen at 8 ft height. Although it is not completely dark in the room, the picture is bright. I would recommend a high gain screen to help increase the brightness.
The 3d operation was smooth using the RF glasses. No drop outs like the passive glasses. Watching Avatar in 3D was almost as good as the theater, although obviously a smaller screen.
I am very impressed by this unit and would recommend it for a small home theater. The next step up in projectors is about $5000 plus, so this is a lot of bang for your buck.

I decided on this projector after I reviewed others similar. It was easy to hookup, adjust to my screen size and connect to all my sources. The image is bright and sharp. The 3D option works perfectly with my Direct TV 3D channels.

Best Super Bowl Party Ever!

This projector amazed everyone at my Super Bowl party this year! This is not a projector with funky looking colors and picture that you'll find in a conference room. I have a 70" Sharp Quattron LCD that is hard to compare but I can say the LCD certainly doesn't look better. This projector is that good! I'm using a 107" 16x9 screen. On an overcast day with two windows and a double slider wide open it's usable in its "Living Room" mode. At night the THX mode is the way to go... It looks of the same quality picture you see at a new movie theatre no joke. The black levels are as perfect as I've seen the auto Iris does a great job.
Only complaints are that the factory THX mode is set for low bulb brightness (like Eco mode). It took a couple of weeks digging around in the menus to really figure everything out and realize that I was not using it at it's full potential. Additionally, you're going to want some volume on the home theatre system when using this projector with full brightness and auto Iris. It's not the quietest in those modes. Once the movie gets going you won't notice it though. I would buy this model again no problem!
The image I posted is daytime, window shades open, 720p cable box.

We've had this projector for a little over a month now and we could not be happier. It is in a dedicated 14x18 theater room without windows projecting onto a Monoprice 106" screen. The picture is beautiful in both 2D and 3D Blu-ray and from the boys Xbox. I honestly don't know why anyone would pay more for a different projector.

After much research and going back and forth on a couple projectors, I ended up going with this one. I had several friends and two professional installers recommend Epson, and this unit in particular.
Very easy to set up, and install, which I ended up doing myself. The ability to move the picture around SO easily, up / down, left / right was a piece of cake. I haven't even had to adjust the keystone part - seems to be just fine.
I am using this projector with a 120" diagonal screen (Silver Ticket), with the projector mounted from the ceiling 16 feet back from the screen - this works great. The system is connected to the Denon AVR-X4100W receiver, and then that is tied in to the Sony BDP-S5100 3D Blu-ray Disc Player. The system works very well with either 2D or 3D movies, and did so, with very little set up or configuration by me.
The fan makes a little bit of noise when it first comes on, but then quiets right down and is very quiet during normal operations.
I was a little worried that with "only" 1080p resolution (and not 4K), that 120" screen diagonal would be too big when viewing from 12 feet. This was NOT the case - the projector creates a very nice picture. We watched Avatar in 3D the first evening, and "Wow" and "it looks like a window" were the feedback. So the resolution is outstanding and works well at these distances.
Overall I am very happy and satisfied with this purchase.

First of all, this is my first projector, so I have nothing to compare it to. However, I did my homework and this projector was constantly at the head of the list. Anytime I mentioned it to video geeks, I got thumbs up for my choice. As for my experience...out of the box it was idiot proof to set up. Anyone that tells you you need an expensive add on service to do it is pulling your leg. Had it up and running within a minute or two. Immediately blown away by the picture and resolution. I still haven't gotten to all of its features (such as the 3D glasses) yet....but haven't been disappointed with anything yet (picture, brightness, noise of machine, ease of adjusting picture, etc.). FYI - mine is ceiling mounted, projecting on a 114" fixed screen with a Bose surround system and a PS3 Blu Ray. Everyone who sees it is blown away.

This projector was recommended to me by a family member and it has done nothing short of exceeding my expectations. It is truly like being in a movie theater while watching BluRay movies and/or 3D (Avatar was amazing). The price was reasonable and even my teenagers have continuously brought friends over to "show it off" and take over my room. I highly recommend this product for anyone looking for a great movie experience at a good price... the picture is truly incredible!

Excellent image quality in both 2D and 3D. The only flaw is the noise while the movie is quiet. Comes with 2 pairs of 3D glasses and fast charging function is another plus.

If you think you don't have enough distance to get a Really BIG picture from this projector. You would be wrong. The ZOOM function MAGNIFIES the picture. Go ahead. Display it from Floor to Ceiling. Detail? Don't worry. There is so much detail, that you won't see any pixels. Awesome, awesome, awesome picture quality. Also, if you don't like the 3D glasses they include. Samsung 3D glasses are compatible. Wireless Radio frequency is used to control the 3D glasses. Sick! Epson knows projectors. 4k projectors are Still expensive. And 4K content is still a few years away. Simple... Get this projector!

We bought a house with a home theater and the projector needed to be upgraded. We watch movies and sports in the theater. Set up was easy. It mounted to our old ceiling mount without a problem. Adjusting the picture was easy. The picture quality is phenomenal. We hardly ever go to the movies anymore.

I reviewed various middle to upper end projectors. I picked the 5030UB primarily due to the review of others suggesting this model in a low light environment. The picture is vivid and crystal clear. I can't believe it's a projector. Getting ready to watch my first 3D movie. Highly recommend if you are willing to spend the extra money.

This projector is amazing. It is very customizable for screen positioning purposes (I built a cabinet instead of mounting it). I secured a 120-inch fixed frame to the opposing wall and between the adjustable feet and adjustable lens, I fit the projection perfectly within the frame. The user options are also impressive, with various settings to choose from. The 3-D quality is terrific, and the glasses work very well (although, I will be purchasing additional compatible glasses, as the Epson ones are quite expensive). The remote is easy to use. Above all the practical applications, this projector has an outstanding picture clarity. Blu Rays obviously look the best, but dvds are a close second. Cable TV looks great. VHS is an expected downgrade, but still watchable. I couldn't be more pleased and am glad I didn't break the budget on a 4K projector.

THX Certified Theatre Quality at Home

I purchased this projector as a replacement for a THX certified plasma television. The quality matches, if not, surpasses my older television, but with the ability to now watch my favorite films at 4 times the size in THX mode, the EPSON 5030 is a home viewing experience I had not knew possible. It is like being at the theatre. I am projecting on a grey screen from Silver Ticket, and the quality is great for the price. I recommend getting a 16:9 screen if you ever plan to watch 16:9 content, because 2:35:1 screens drastically reduce viewing area with black bars on the side of 16:9 content.

I got this projector to replace an older Panasonic AE-700E projector, 2D only. I thought it had a good picture at 720P, however, my new Epson 5030UB blows it away, both in 2D and 3D.

The picture is as clear as an LCD TV. I have mine at 120". The 3D is good too. I was nervous about ambient light but it's no big deal.
