    A Simply Fantastic Device

The Epson ES-300W just happens to be the first portable scanner that I have owned, and am amazed by the results. The quality of this portable scanner is simply fantastic. The first thing that I scanned, zoomed through the scanner so fast, I blinked and almost missed it. I have not seen anything scan that fast besides the equipment at the copy & print stores. Upon viewing the file on my laptop, I was very impressed with the scan quality. It surely beat the scan quality of my All-In-One printer. Once I started playing with the settings, I saw that I didn’t even have the resolution set at the best quality either. I thought that this thing would have been seriously bulky due to having a battery backup, but it is very compact for having so many features. It has an adjustable paper feed, as well as a pop-up full sized page support. The adjustable paper feed allowed me to scan a stack of receipts for a expense report in no time. The scanner also has a business card slot that pulls the card in and back out at the same spot. This leaves the card un-bent, that way I can put it back in my card stack. My work requires me to travel often for days, weeks, or even over a month at a time, and this will allow me to easily scan my expenses & reports without the need of relying on a hotel business center. This Epson ES-300W scanner will defiantly be staying in my laptop bag for now on! Don’t judge it by its size; its small but powerful

Don’t judge it by its size; its small but powerful! This is one small and fantastic scanner! This is the first portable scanner I’ve ever had. I’ve had several ScanSnap and Fujitsu scanners before, but never a portable scanner. This works amazingly well and has very good battery life. I brought this with me on a recent trip to Minnesota for work and was able to scan documents I picked up as well as all of my receipts for expense reports in the hotel room. It slipped easily into my backpack and seems like it will be sturdy enough to travel around with. Scanning Speed: I found that about 200dpi for text seemed to provide the best mix of speed and quality. At 200dpi it was basically spitting out documents way faster than I anticipated. It should be plenty fast to use on the road! At 600dpi, it was still quick but I’ll admit, noticeably slower. Duplex (2-sided) scanning was very quick as well which is an added bonus! Scanning Quality: There are several options in the scanning software to cleanup and deskew the document as well and those seemed to do a very good job. Hardware: The scanner has a pop-up set of arms that come out to support full-page documents and that seemed to support my papers just fine. It folds neatly back into the device when not in use. Installation: I would suggest that you go to the Epson website and pull the latest software for the scanner and install it before connecting the scanner. Once you do that, its very simple to setup and use, basically just plug it in and go. The wireless setup was pretty easy to set up as well and seems to be working fine while I’m at home. For me though, I’ll probably stick to the wired connection because its just easier to plug it in and its zero-config. Disclaimer: This is a review for the ES-300W Wireless Portable Duplex Document Scanner that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review.

    Great addition for me

One of the first things that I really liked about this scanner was its size and compact nature. As something I will use on the go, it’s important to me not to take up more room than is necessary. It collapses down, latches shut securely and is ready to provide me with hours of scanning without being the size of a bus. One thing I did find challenging was the initial setup of the wireless connection to my laptop. It would not connect to my wireless network initially, even after several attempts, so instead I had to restart the scanner setup and the second time it connected flawlessly on the first try. Once I did, my phone, laptop and PC had no issues at all. The software setup and updates were very simple, it was just that issue of wireless connectivity. Something else that I noticed right away after scanning a few pictures, was that there was a nice precise white border around all the photo’s that were scanned in. Cosmetically, I found that to be a very nice touch as it made the photos stand out and look more crisp. Documents scanned are also of great quality and I have to say, I’m going to get a ton of use out of this little thing as I have records that I have to keep on a daily basis for my job. To know that I will be able to scan something in right there in the parking lot of whatever location I am in and send it right to my Boss will be a tremendous benefit. No more doing it at home when I just want to relax. If you want a good quality scanner that you can be completely mobile with, this is the way to go. This is a review for the ES-300W Wireless Portable Duplex Document Scanner that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review. When first receiving the product, I was surprised on how small it actually was. The set up instructions are easy to follow and finding the drivers for it was simple and easy to download. Though the only complaint I had when setting it up was some of the instructions the driver came with were a little confusing at one point but besides that it was an easy process. Once I had everything downloaded and ready to use, it took me a second to understand how the scanner worked, your documents need to be facing down so that the scanner actually scans the page you are trying to scan. The quality of the scan is actually really high quality, captures a lot of the fine details. Though I had a hard time getting the card scanner option to read my cards, but one of the main problems was the program you download to use the scanner, the auto detect feature didn’t work so it was hard to get it to scan when using that, had to set it to letter. But overall the scanner its self is good, portable, and the battery actually last a long time, if you constantly are scanning letter size papers it’s a good small scanner that can fit on almost any desk.

I was skeptical when I read the specs as it looked similar to a mobile printer I had several years ago. I was very happily surprised when I open the box to see that this was nothing like that! What I found was a very well made, solid piece of technology that I had to try right away! My initial testing was on a W10 laptop via USB. The speed was very surprising and it was able to handle multiple pages with ease. Next, I setup the scanner on my home WiFi network and tested from the same W10 laptop - not a change in performance! I then connected my Samsung Note5 over the same WiFi and my mind was starting to blow! Finally, I setup the AP contained within the scanner so I could test directly from the scanner to my devices. As a 30+ year IT professional I was very skeptical, but very happily surprised to see the same type of results over the internal AP. My final test was at work via USB to a Wyse 5030 Zero Client. Again, it worked as advertised - amazing! It's slightly heavier than I expected, but it fit easily into my backpack along with my laptop or mobile zero client (NCS Technologies). The internal battery means you can use the device anywhere so long as you have a change. Very convenient! My opinion is my word, so I don't provide positive review to just any technology. This is one that I gladly attach my name to! Well done Epson! This is a review for the ES-300W Wireless Portable Duplex Document Scanner that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review.

This is a review for the ES-300W Wireless Portable Duplex Document Scanner that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review. Setup was initially a bit of a struggle. The wireless equipment that I have at home is business class and does not utilize WPS. I looked over the documentation and it seemed straight forward. There was something I was missing, because the wireless network that the scanner puts out is secured with a password. It wasn’t until I attempted to use my smart phone and the picture indicated the SSID and PASSWORD were on the bottom (boy did I feel dumb). After that, it was smooth sailing. What impresses me most about the scanner so far is the speed and high resolution quality scans. Prior to receiving the scanner to test and write a review (this review), I had been using an app on my iPhone. It works great for on the go (receipts, single pieces of paper and one offs). However, I had been reluctant to use it for covering the paperwork around my office. Now that I have the ES-300W, I should make quick work of digitizing my pile of papers. I can’t say honestly that I would have run out to buy one of these (because I wasn’t in the market), but for such a compact and light-weight device, it is truly fantastic. I can see this for a small home office, or if you are a person on the go and travels a lot, but needs access to a device that provides high-res scans, this would fit nicely in your bag.

For being very compact and having so many features. It has an adjustable paper feed, as well as a pop-up full sized page support, duplex scanning at once, and the business card scanner slot. The first thing that I scanned was a hand written note that i had. I put it in and it was out of the scanner fast. The next thing i tried was an old ID card. Upon viewing the file on my laptop, I was very impressed with the scan quality. Then i noticed the it was not even on the highest quality. The adjustable paper feed allowed me to scan a stack of receipts for business expenses, or to keep track of expenses that I have though the year. Next I connected the scanner to my Cell Phone. I then ran some scans of documents through it and was amazed how quickly it scanned them. It let me choose all of the settings before I scanned the document. It also asked me where i wanted to store the file. I am amazed at the weight of it for having a battery it is not to heavy so I can put it in my laptop bag and take it with me were every I go. “This is a review for the ES-300W Wireless Portable Duplex Document Scanner that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review.”

    Amazing Scanner

I've worked with a lot of different brands of hardware and it seems that epson has out done themselves with this gem. I was super impressed with the speed of scanning, quality of the scan, and simplicity of the unit. It's definitely compact and makes life easy for anyone who is traveling or limited on space. Anyone who travels and has to scan and send in papers on the road this is perfect. The battery life is exceptional. I charged it when I received the unit and have put more than a couple 100 sheets through the unit. Truth be told, I expected another run of the mill scanners that were just going to be "okay". This by far exceeds my expectations between the mobility and other features. I used it with both my android phone and my windows 10 laptop over wifi and was impress with the connectivity over wireless since it's commonly an issue with other devices. Without a shadow of a doubt, hands down, this has been the best scanner I have ever owned. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who needs portability, simplicity, and/or a compact scanner. Power packed in a small package

This is a review for the ES-300W Wireless Portable Duplex Document Scanner that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review Power packed in a small package – I have never used a portable scanner and was not really sure what to expect when the small package arrived at my doorstep. The scanner is well designed and compact. A really small footprint - 11 inches wide (same as the width of a US letter sized paper), 2.5 inches tall and about 4 inches deep. Weighs about 2.5 - 3 pounds. As I said, a small and compact foot print. The scanner then just grows (sort of like the Transformers movie). The front opens up, a couple of blades/wings flip out to hold documents that need to be scanned. Not sure how much weight the feeder can hold. Plug in the charger which is similar to the little brick and cord use get with the typical laptop. That’s about what it takes to get it physically setup. To get the scanner connected and ready for use, you will need to download software from the Epson website (URL provided in the setup document is not quite right but it was easy to locate the right software on the Epson website). Would have been nice if the software was provided on a mini CD or a USB stick. There are quite a few applications that need to be downloaded and if you have a slow internet connection, it could take a few minutes. I chose to set it up on the home network via the Wifi option. Not quite the easiest setup process. For once, I had to crack open the user manual to figure out the process. After a few attempts at setting it up via a device on my wireless network, I ended up connecting it using the WPS option on my router. The WPS option worked out well and was quick. In hindsight, I would suggest that this is the best option and should be default option for everyone. Once the software is installed, I was prompted to do a firmware upgrade which I accepted. The firmware upgrade process appeared to have hung up after the update was completed. I waited about 5 – 10 minutes before I manually shut down the printer and restarted it. I was worried that I would end up with a dead scanner since the firmware did not exit gracefully. But it worked out. Now for the actual usage. I started the Epson app and selected the defaults to perform my first scan – black and white scan of a US Letter sized document. The scanner spit it out at such a high speed that I thought something was wrong. But that was not the case. Indeed, the speed of scanning is impressive. As the scan resolution is increased, the scanning speed is reduced but well within acceptable time of a few seconds per page. It certainly takes a few seconds to get the data to show up on the computer (note that I am on a Wifi connection). I think the delay is due to the wifi transfer of data from the scanner to the computer. Have to wonder Scan speed did not change much between a one side scan vs a duplex scan. Note that duplex scan is a single pass and does not require the document to be flipped over and scanned again. Good work on this design. Black and White scans took about the same time as color Scans – just a few seconds if that. I was able to scan up to 10 documents on a single pass. I just did not need to scan larger stacks and so cannot really speak to the upper limit of the document feeder. I did run into something that I need to sort out. A black and white scan came through fine for the most part except where I had a bar code in one part of the document. The scanned image of the bar code came out a bit smudged. The same document in color mode reproduced the bar code well without any issues. I played around with the resolution but the B&W image of the bar code did not come out right regardless of the resolution. I will need to play a bit more and see what I am doing wrong. After a few minutes of non-use, the device goes to sleep even when connected to power. Good green credentials, I say. Paper jams did happen once or twice and they were easily resolved. No complicated machines and elements to mess with. Just a latch to open the scanner and take out the original. The software however could not handle paper jams elegantly. Anytime I opened the device to clear a paper jam, I had to restart the app and I think this may be by design as the device disconnects the wireless connection and the application does not have a good way to pick up when reconnected. Hopefully, this part of the design can get improved in a future update. I did not scan any business cards – do folks still use business cards? A few documents I scanned seemed to get the bottom edges cut off. Repositioning and scanning them worked out well but cannot figure why the bottom edge seems to get cut off. I would certainly confirm the scanned output before scanning the next document. On a related note, the design of the scanner enables easy scanning of long documents. As regards the physical characteristics, I would suggest a gentle touch given the small footprint. I would worry about breaking the document guides and the paper holder flaps if I was not careful with them. What I would be curious to know is if this scanner can be used to scan large volume of documents/photographs/originals, etc.? Or if the design and specification is intended for low volume and infrequent use. I like it too much to burn it out by overuse! As regards pricing, I think it is a bit higher than what I would pay. Something around the range of $150 would seem to be optimal, IMO.

This scanner is pure quality, and very mobile. Setting up the scanner is simply and fast! The Epson ES-300W has a rechargeable battery, which makes it portable and easy to take on the go. The scanner holds a charge very well, and can also be plugged when in use. The scanner is easy to take to different places which make it very useful! Another great thing about this scanner is that it can scan various sizes, multiple pages, as well as 2-sided paper. The quality of the items scanned by the Epson ES-300W beats out my HP Officejet Pro 8600. Epson has made a good quality product that offers incredible results. The software is very user-friendly and easy to use! The Epson ES-300W is quick to scan your documents as well as provide high-quality resolution quality scans. This is a compact and hand scanner. It comes with power adapter, USB cable and instructions manual. Software's are easy to install and works flawless. It also works off the car USB charger if needed to use. IT has its own long lasting battery which makes it portable and easy to use. It has Wifi, Wifi direct (for phone) and USB switch which you can change between. The speed of scanning varies, on wifi the highest resolution(1200 dpi) will take a couple minutes. The general/default (600dpi) is instant. It also have a card slot which scans both sides of ID in seconds. This is a pass through scanner meaning individual documents will be scanned. It is not able to pass the passport, books through it. It does say it is document scanner and does the job perfectly. This is a review for the ES-300W Wireless Portable Duplex Document Scanner that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review. I received the scanner on Monday 1/23/17. It came in packed in a very impressive box, a lot smaller than I expected. The unit was packed very well. After unpacking this, it took just a very small space and being wireless I could place it anywhere I wanted. I had a little trouble finding the download on the website, so it took me awhile to get this up and running. Once connected, I chose the wireless version, I was impressed with the way it operated. The scanner is fast, with crystal clear page scans, and extremely easy to use. I own another well known brand and Epson leaves a smaller footprint, and is much nicer to use.

I've been using this scanner for about a week now for both business and personal use. I love how long the battery last and how portable it is to bring with me to work. I've never had a portable scanner so I didn't know what to expect. I am more than happy with the results. I was able to scan business cards easily which I was not able to do well on my previous scanner and I can also scan to my cell phone. That has to be the best option available in my eyes. I have been looking into the Fujitsu Scansnap ix500, but it is fairly large and heavy, so I was interested in buying a more compact and portable document scanner for my needs. I scan a lot of receipts, cards, and mail, and I live in a 1 bedroom apartment, so space is a premium. This scanner is a bit less than 3 pounds, and when it arrived in the mail I was impressed with how small the box was. I downloaded the drivers/software at https://epson.com/Support/Scanners/ES-Series/Epson-WorkForce-ES-300W/s/SPT_B11B242201#drivers. It took a while to download due to the large file size. With installation and setup, it took about half an hour to get everything set up, but it was all very straightforward to figure out. Using the device is simple and I really value the wireless part. It can operate off a battery, so it's completely wireless. It can also operate off USB power or from a traditional AC adapter. I scan straight to Dropbox, but it can also scan to other online storage accounts. It handles multiple pages (up to 20 pages ADF) easily and can scan both sides (duplex) with great quality. It scans very fast too (specs say 25 pages per minute). Scan quality is very impressive with automated processing, and the OCR is pretty good. I normally use Adobe PDF OCR, but it comes with ABBYY which is also an industry leader. The only thing is that I don't feel like it handles plastic cards like gift cards and credit cards as efficiently as it could. It doesn't handle multiple cards loaded at the same time very well, and sometimes cards get stuck. Any sticky residue on the cards also affect the scan feeding and quality. I think this is a common complaint with document scanners in general with people who are scanning a lot of cards. It's definitely not a dealbreaker by any means, and I still really like this scanner and would highly recommend it.

Now this is what you call a scanner!!! Have testing this scanner out I have confirmed this is the best scanner I have ever used!!!!! This scanner can scan about everything you task it to scan. As long the item is within the 12 inches wide it should scan it. This scanner can scan business cards, receipts, photos, paperwork (as long its is 12 inches wide or less), notes and more. On top of this you don't even have to attach any wires to the scanner to connect it to the computer to use the scanner. Which is nice as you don't have to untangle any cables to use the scanner. Another thing I like about this device is it size which is compact but a little heavy due to being a completely portable device. What I mean by portable is that this device has an built-in battery that does charge within an hour and so far has last me well over 2 days on one charge with about 5 hours of use so far. For being a portable device that doesn't require you to connect it to anything (power and USB connection to PC) is a huge plus to me as I can use the device any where I like.  Defiantly comes in handy with my laptop when I am out and about. Another thing to touch on if you do forget to turn the device off it will auto shutoff when not in use. Now lets go into setting this device straight from the box. Just like previous Epson products (mainly printers) it is very, very simple to install. Once you have opened the box you will see an instructions guide. Within that guide you have step by step instructions on how to install the device. Even if you only follow the first few steps you can get through the remaining steps without even looking at it. Once you have the software downloaded the installation program will direct you on what needs to be done to successfully install the device which is very simple to follow. Overall my rating on this device is 5 out of 5 and the reason why I give this is because of it being a portable device with a very long lasting battery, hard to create jams and if you do it is very easy to unjam the printer. Another reason why I give this rating is because of how easy it is to install the printer. All in all this is a wonderful device and very impressed what Epson has provided us with. For the current price tag to the product now is defiantly worth every penny.

The scanner comes with a power adapter, a USB cable and instruction materials. I downloaded the software from the url provided onto my windows 10 machine. There are two choices for installing the software - using the USB cable provided or through wireless. I chose the later. After installing the software, I was prompted to upgrade my firmware. This took a few minutes to complete. The software package comes with the Epson Scan 2 Utility (Used to provide statistics and key settings), Epson Scan 2 (Application used to perform scanning with advanced settings), Document Capture Pro (USed to perform advanced scanning with features to save the image to your computer, email, ftp, sharepoint, evernote, google drive or SugarSync. This also comes with multiple file formats and different type of page detections). There is also a mobile application available for iOS and Andriod devices. This allows you to scan to your mobile device. I primary used the Epson Scan 2 application. I used it to scan a stack of old photos. The part I was impressed about the most was the quality and speed of the scan. I chose to save all the photos in PNG format on my drive. I really like the scanner due to how compact it is and how great all the photos turned out. The only thing I wish it were able to do is scan things that do not bend - right now everything has to be passed through the feeder. This means I would not be able to scan my passport for example. If this is indeed possible, please let me know. I also used the android mobile application to scan a few photos after installing it from the play store. It was able to easily find the already setup scanner on my wifi network and prompted me through the options to scan documents. I see room for improvement in the instruction manual. I wish the instruction manual had a separate sheet for each language rather than combining them together. It makes it easier to read. I also would like to see more details in the documentation about the different type of download options. The documentation simply has a url to go to but the site had multiple downloads. This will be confusing to the average user. This is a review for the ES-300W Wireless Portable Duplex Document Scanner that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review.

I’m pretty impressed with this tiny scanner. It feels solidly built. I’ve used a lot of scanners over the years, and must say there is no comparison to a good device when you need to scan volumes. The scans are very fast, with an almost immediate warm up time. This would be ideal for an auditor for example, that needs to scan documents while on-site. It can scan to a companion app on your smartphone wirelessly thru wifi. The setup didn’t work the first time I launched the app, but as soon as I restarted the wifi network on the scanner, it took. I’d call it a success since the whole setup was under a minute. You can scan loose leafs of various sizes, and heavy business cards/ID’s are scanned thru a special feeder. Scans can be double or single sided, with an awesome feature to skip blank pages when scanning double sided. It can’t scan anything that can’t be fed thru the machine, so no books or objects. But what it is intended for, it does very well. This Epson ES-300W would be very good in a pharmacy environment. It takes up very little room, is very fast, and is considerably quieter than the Fujitsu's I’ve had to use. The Fujitsu’s can sometimes jam when scanning smaller prescriptions, and I can’t see that being an issue with this scanner. I’ve experimented with flatbed scanners, and it’s just not realistic to use in a pharmacy setting as they take up too much valuable space and time aligning everything. Archival camera systems are good for fragile books, but not much else, as you have no way of flattening a sheet of paper to get a good scan. The ES-300W has TWAIN drivers so it shouldn’t be a problem to add the scanner within proprietary software (pharmacy, or other program) The price point on this unit is a bit steep but you’re getting a professional grade scanner and a powerful suite of software for your phone and computer. This is a review for the ES-300W Wireless Portable Duplex Document Scanner that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review.

This is a review for the ES-300W Wireless Portable Duplex Document Scanner that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review. I recently received this portable scanner and I have to say, I think this is a great device for those that are on constantly on the go. I am constantly traveling for business purposes and I think that this device will come with me on most of my trips from now on. I think that besides the compact size of the device the stand out feature of it is the fact that it can run solely on battery power (As long as you charge it)...I don't think I have ever seen that on any scanner before. Starting with the Epson Scan software, it's just so simple to use. I was up and running within five minutes and had zero issues getting this scanner to scan a bunch of documents. I installed the software on my Mac, followed the prompts and was scanning like a pro. Something I was not expecting is the fact that this scanner can do double sided scanning. Great feature! I also don't have a lot of desk space at home, so I think I will keep this scanner folded up and in a drawer...it's SO small when its folded up. I also get a lot of business cards for work, and I don't like having to carry them with me. This scanner has a dedicated business card scanner on one side of the roller specifically for scanning in business cards! One thing I do wish it had is a case/sleeve that I could put it in with the power cable/usb cable. Besides that minor issue, I think this scanner will work for all of those with limited space, and those travel or work from multiple buildings and need the ability to scan documents and business cards. This has quickly become my favorite scanner and will be what I use in the future.

This is a review for the ES-300W Wireless Portable Duplex Document Scanner that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review. The unit unboxing was pretty simple. All the necessary cables and leads were included. Setup was mostly simple and self explanatory with the aid of the instruction booklet, with one exception. If you are setting up with WI-FI then more instruction than is provided will be necessary. Connecting to my Ipad first required downloading the Epson Document Scan app. This was not enough though to get the scanner to connect, further instructions needed to be located from the Epson support site. Only then do you have the necessary information to know what each of the buttons on the scanner do and which position to put the connection switch to, in order to connect correctly. As for using the scanner, that is by far a simpler affair. It is a very fast scanner, both for single sheet and for multiple sheet documents. The Epson software from the App Store is very useful. Multi page documents can be rearranged easily, documents can be rotated easily to. Then it is a simple matter of saving the document before you can export it to another app like I-Books or print it. The scanner is very compact in size and closes up nicely for storage or portability. Scanner quality is good. Overall it would be recommended for someone who only needs to do scanning or has to do so on a portable basis.
