I was blown away on how fast and simple this scanner is to use. I needed to scan my brief which was 10 pages double-sided to my boss right away; our meeting was in two hours and he needed to review it first. I had forgotten to send this to him yesterday so I was on a time limit. In less then 1 min I had scanned and emailed my brief “unbelievable” best scanning experience ever

Fast and portable, I liked these features and you can use to power it with its own rechargeable battery, USB or ac plug. The problem is WiFi connectivity. If you don't have WPS on your router don't buy this. You can't be able to connect it to your network . You can connect it to your computer directly or with its own direct wifi for wireless connection with no internet of course. Overall it's ok but quite pricey.

A Very Good Portable Scanner for Mobile Workflow

Bottom Line: The Epson WorkForce ES-300WR delivers near-desktop quality scanning in a compact, portable format. Pros: Fast ADF duplex document scanning, easy card and receipt scanning, convenient physical switches and buttons, cloud service integration Cons: Doesn’t quite deliver a “post-PC” experience, scans are often off-center, concerns about long-term durability Review: I still receive a lot of paper (work documents, mail, receipts, etc.) during the day, but I’ve found that neither desktop scanning or mobile app scanning (i.e., taking pictures) are particularly convenient. In short, desktop scanning doesn’t match my modern, mobile workflow (I do a good amount of work on an iPad Pro) and app scanning is too slow/cumbersome for more than a page or two. As a result, I tend to end up with a big pile of documents that need to scanned sitting on my desk, so I was very excited to integrate portable scanning into my regular workflow. Mobile setup was pretty simple. There’s a connection switch on the side of the unit, which allows you to set the scanner to wired (USB), WiFi, or AP mode (AP created a WiFi hotspot to directly connect you device to the scanner). The SSID/PW are printed on a sticker on the unit, so directly connecting my iPad Pro was a breeze. Once the app was installed, I was able to select my scanner and begin my scanning session. The mobile app is pretty basic. You can scan documents or review your files that are saved in the app, which can then be easily exported to storage, email, etc. via the share tab. The scan menu gives your basic options such as changing the dpi, single or duplex scanning, and the ability to ignore blank pages. Duplex scanning was fast from the ADF, which is one of the flagship features of this device. It’s definitely on par with the speed of desktop scanners, which is fantastic in a mobile unit. The scanner is fairly compact, weighing in at just under 3 pounds. You can charge the unit’s battery with the the included AC adapter or USB cable, which the instructions say should take around 3 hours for a full charge over AC or USB 3.0. The scanner also has a series of handy buttons and indicator lights for its various settings, which I strongly prefer to software managed controls. For instance, switching to plastic card scanning mode allows to feed the card directly into the scanner rollers rather than trying to pull it through the ADF, which folds up nicely over the front of the unit. You can, of course, unlock the full potential of features if you connect the scanner to a computer and use Epson’s scanning software, which enables OCR, Excel and accounting exports, etc. Anyone in the market for a good desktop AND portable scanner will really like this unit, although I should note that the maximum paper width is just a hair over 8.5”. Additionally, the scanner is still very much a connected device, relying on either a computer or mobile device to work. It would have been great if the scanner had some onboard memory, so you could scan and save documents to the unit and download them to your device later. I do, however, have two minor issues. First, my scans are often - ever so slightly - off center. This can be corrected by being very careful with paper loading, but if you’re just casually placing a stack in the scanner, my scans tend to be a little crooked. It’s not a huge deal, but it is annoying. Second, the latch that holds the ADF in place when the unit is closed is held by a flimsy piece of gray plastic. Whenever I pick the unit up (I tend to place my hand around the center of the unit), I feel like the ADF is going to break loose, which makes me nervous about its long term durability. Still, I’m very pleased with the scanner and intend to start bringing it to meetings so I can scan documents as I get them rather than collect them for a scanning session back at the office.

Nice little scanner! We have several high-end sheetfeed scanners in in our office and this one seems just as good. Plus, when it’s not in use it hardly takes any space. We need TWAIN drivers for the software we use, so we probably won’t use the wireless functionality. The only minor negative is that it’s hard to open the unit on occasion; the slider seems to stick a little.

The Epson Color Receipt Scanner is portable and easy to use. Simple design and compact for sure. The scanner scans a page very quickly but the clarity is not 100% crisp. Serves its purpose so I am fine with it. I did have trouble making the "wireless" feature work so I just use it as a plug in - into my laptop.

Bought this to use as a business scanner to be able to create readable PDF documents and put them on the Google drive for a future searching. The scanner took a bit to get set up and onto Wi-Fi, but it scans really well. Next step is to connect it to our Google Drive account and make sure it works appropriately. So far so good.

Pro: Fast, accurate scanning. Compact form factor Con: No way to assign a default scanning profile. Doesn't handle thin/wrinkled receipts well +/-: Accounting 'extras' only valuable if you're using particular s/w pkgs I was trying to replace an aged Fujitsu ScanSnap whose rollers are stuck and not serviceable. The Epson was quite a bit faster than what it was supposed to replace, but every scan had to be managed through the software. I'm accustomed to being able to scan multiple jobs without having to go back to the computer to confirm where and how to save the file. Also the links to accounting software are only useful if you use 'think client' old-school accounting software like QuickBooks. Doesn't really help much if you use Xero or something else like it to manage your accounting.

There are two distant topics to discuss when reviewing this scanner. First is the scanner itself, and second is the software bundled with it. I preface my review with this because the ES-300WR appears to be physically identical to the less expensive ES-300W version. The difference and the reason you pay an additional $100-150 for the WR version is the software bundle. THE SCANNER. It’s very compact and folds up into a package that’s 2 ½” tall, 3 ½” deep and 11” long. It can be powered by its internal battery, by USB from a computer (I suggest USB 3 since it charges at a higher rate), or by an included wall charger. Since it can connect wirelessly to your computer, it’s nice not to have any wires dangling and use the battery. When unfolded, it nicely handles letter size documents in its 20 sheet feeder. However, I haven’t had enough use to know how long it can run between charges. The build quality seems good, but there are some parts that appear delicate when it’s open and the paper supports and guides are up. Even folded, I think you better keep a firm grip and not drop or throw this guy around. It’s blazing fast at 25 pages per minute and can scan both sides of a document in one pass. That’s how Epson rates it at 50 images a minute … 25 pages front and back per minute. This speed is at a resolution of 200 dpi, and like any scanner, it is slower if you want higher resolution. Please realize this is a “document” scanner and not intended for high quality photo scans. In fact, it’s not intended to scan photos at all. There’s a long list of paper types not to scan. It prefers plain bond paper, bills, receipts and business cards that aren’t worn or bent. The scan quality is very good, and it does scan in color. The scanning can be started via software or the button on the unit. I’ve read some complaints about the WIFI setup, but I didn’t experience any significant issue. Both computers I connected were running up to date versions of Windows 10. I does appear to only bond with one computer at a time, so consider this a personal device not a general network scanner. When using WIFI the images transmit quickly. You can connect through your WIFI network, or through essentially its hot spot mode. It does have a fixed SSID and password printed on the bottom label. I haven’t tried it, but a road warrior would most likely want to use that method to maintain a secure connection. You can also use the included USB 3 cable, and there is a switch on the side that controls whether it’s using USB, direct, or network WIFI. THE SOFTWARE. All software is download, and no disks are include. I like that system since you get the latest versions without needing immediate updates. Epson Scan is included which will feel familiar to anyone who has used an Epson scanner. After scanning you are given a lot of choices … print, save as a file (image, PDF, or searchable PDF), email, send to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, save to DropBox, Google Drive, Evernote. There’s also a choice that’s unique to the WR scanner … “Open in Receipt Manager”. There’s a second program called SmartScan Accounting Edition. It has three quick choices … Scan single side, Scan double side, or open Receipt Manager. An additional program exclusive to the WR edition is a full version of Nuance Power PDF Standard, Version 2.1. There’s a license included that will activate it on one computer. Version 3 is out, so 2.1 is available at a significant discount. If you have Adobe Acrobat, you won’t need this. If not, it’s a pretty powerful PDF creator and editor which has Nuance’s OCR ability baked in. Now to Receipt Manager which seems to be the main reason to buy the WR (Accounting Edition). This program will scan bills and receipts and pick out the necessary data for accounting as follows … Date added, Date Issued, Vendor Name, Total, Taxes, and Tip. It will also allow you to setup and remember categories such as … Personal/Business, Deductible/Non-deductible, Classification, Sub-Class, Payment method, Card Number, and comments can be added. This data can be exported to QuickBooks, saved as CSV (spreadsheet), or saved as an image. If you process a lot of paper bills and receipts, and if you use QuickBooks for your accounting, this might be a very valuable program. This could be invaluable for an accountant with multiple clients or an auditor who needs to verify records. In this age of electronic billing and phone apps that perform similar scanning functions, I’m not certain who else it will appeal to. CONCLUSIONS: Pros … Compact and portable. Very fast. Wireless or wired. Battery or charger. High quality scans. Cons … Document scanning only. Pricey. If you don’t need the very specific accounting features or the Power PDF software, buy the less expensive ES-300W.

Small footprint, wireless scanner works great

I have lived with this Epson ES-300 WR scanner for about a week and have had a chance to put it through its paces. Overall, it works very well, is very easy to use, and is perfect for certain kinds of scanning. Initial set-up was mostly trouble-free. The scanner has a battery so it can be used without a nearby electrical connection once charged up, which takes about an hour initially. It can be charged through a USB 2 or 3 port, but the whole beauty of this thing is that it connects to your wireless network so that it can be located anywhere within range of the network and doesn’t need to be sitting near your computer. So you don’t really want to use a USB connection unless you don’t have a wireless network. But then I’d use the A/C adapter to charge it which, as I said, takes much less time. As I said, initial set-up was mostly trouble-free. Things went pretty much as the included instruction sheet and setup software said it would except for one thing. When it came time to do a test scan after setup, the first thing it wants you to do is scan by loading a document and pressing the scan button on the scanner. That didn’t work for me even after a couple of tries. Epson apparently assumed this could happen as it had an alternate option in the set-up software to try an initial scan by using the Epson scanning software installed as part of the inital set-up. So I started that software and clicked the SCAN button. This worked fine, and, after I did this once, initiating a scan by pressing the scan button on the scanner also began to work fine. Since then, and through multiple turn-on and turn-offs of the machine, there have been no problems scanning by using the scan button on the machine. When you do a scan from the scanner, the scanned document is immediately saved to your computer. The scan software is not loaded automatically. This is fine if you need a quick scan of a document or receipt or something and just need a quick pdf or jpg file. (The default file type can be changed in the software.) The default location for the scanned document is the Documents folder, but it can be changed to anything you want. When you scan from the software, like most all scanning software, you can do a Preview scan prior to doing a scan that you want to save. The control software is very versatile, giving you control over every aspect of the scan, from page type to one- or two-sided to file type to resolution to lots of other aspects. You can scan not only normal, letter-sized paper, but smaller documents like receipts as well as plastic sheets like ID cards or insurance cards. It can scan multiple-sheet documents. I see these kinds of scanners at doctor’s offices all the time where they scan your ID and insurance card when you check in. But what do I like best about this scanner? In addition to being wireless, I like its SIZE. It’s very small, measuring only 14.25 by 3.5 by 2.5 inches. It’s very light as well, weighing less than 3 lbs. You could almost fit it in the pocket of a large overcoat. Finding a convenient location for this in your office or den or wherever is easy. The top unfolds easily for paper loading, and it has guides to hold the paper and direct it into the machine. When not in use, everything folds back up, and the device is very unobtrusive. You don’t need to dedicate a shelf or stand for it like you do for a flatbed scanner or printer. My wife works from home and has always had me scan documents (mostly invoices, receipts, and vendor quotes) on the large, flat-bed scanner attached to my computer. With this Epson ES-300WR, she will have a scanner in her office where she can scan directly from her computer and that will be perfect for the types of scanning she needs to do. The scanner comes with a free download of Nuance PDF software and a license for full activation. The software is very nice for working with and creating pdf files. But like the installation of the software for the scanner itself, I did run into a hiccup when installing the Nuance software. The installation process cruised along just fine until it popped up a “Windows preparing to install” window, and then it just hung there with no more activity. After waiting a while, I gave up, opened Task Manager, and closed the installation program. But it turned out that the program was installed before the problem arose because I was able to load and use the Nuance software without a problem. So I don’t know what to make of it. The bottom line is that, after two what turned out to be minor glitches in the install process of the Epson software and then the Nuance software, everything is installed and works just fine. Obviously, you cannot scan things like book or magazine pages or documents that exceed 8.5 inches in width and that you would lay flat on a flatbed scanner and scan portions of. It can only scan items that can slide through the sheet feeder. But you know this going in. For what it CAN scan, and it can scan several common document types, it works great, and its small footprint and wireless capability are just added bonuses. Highly recommended.

The Epson ES-300WR wireless portable scanner is a powerful scanner in a small package. As with most of my reviews, I am not going to go too much into the specifications of the product - you can see all those details in the BestBuy specifications. However, key points are : - Small and lightweight less than 3 lbs. and smaller than 2 bricks side by side. - Super fast scanning at over 25 color pages. - Scans both sides of a document at one time. - 20 pages scan via an automatic document feeder. - Connects to both PC’s and mobile devices. Installation- Setting up the ES-300WR is easy, once you get through about 5 to 10 minutes of software installation and updates. You have 3 options to install – Wi-Fi network, direct Wi-Fi and USB. I tried both Wi-Fi for my MacBook and Wi-Fi direct for my Pixel XL 2. Everything connected with no problems. Build quality – The main body of the unit is built well and you can see it is top notch. The top cover/ auto document feeder is a bit on the flimsy side and I can see that getting damaged if you are too rough on it. Performance and software – I was impressed on how fast this scanned documents. It is rated at 25 pages per minute (although the document feed holds 20.) I tested it on 5 pages and it was literally about 10 seconds. There are a lot of variables when it comes to scan speed but I think this unit’s performance is even faster than the specifications. Once something is scanned, it appears almost right away in the Epson software and you can upload directly to Dropbox, Google Drive and more. It comes with Nuance OCR software and it seemed perfectly capable. You can also export to Excel (which I tested) and Quickbooks (for receipts and more – I did not test.) Overall, the software provided is generous and top notch. Issues – As mentioned, I installed this on both my MacBook Pro and Pixel XL2 phone. The mobile app worked as advertised – , open the software, connect the scanner to your phone, insert images and press the scan button. Very nice. The MacBook had an issue, the scan button on the scanner would never initialize a scan. I had to do it directly from the software. When I would press the scan button, I would get a flashing error exclamation point and nothing would happen. It is a minor issue since it worked fine from the software but there is definitely something not working as advertised It is not something that should stop you from purchasing and many people would not even notice because they are starting the scan from the software. Conclusion – The million dollar question is should you buy? Maybe. There are two versions of this scanner that are identical except some software difference ( as far as I can tell. ) You have the Epson ES-300WR ( this model , also known as the Accounting Edition) and the ES-300W ( the original model.) The ES-300WR has the ability to import receipts directly into Quick Books. I cannot see any other differences. With that in mind, the list price is $100 more than the model without that ability. So there is the maybe, if you do not care about the Quickbooks and receipt optin, pick the ES-300W. If you are a Quickbooks user and need to scan a lot of receipts and info directly into Quickbooks than you choose this model. With either model, you cannot go wrong. I have never seen a portable scanner this fast , particularly with such a small footprint. I’ve used a Canon portable scanner that was supposed to be the best and there is no comparison. The Epson ES-300WR is amazing fast and comes with great software. Overall , I recommend the scanner if you need something portable or even if you just do not want to take up too much desk space.
