Blazing Speed, Quiet Office Scanner

The Epson - WorkForce ES-500W II Wireless Duplex Desktop Document Scanner is my favorite appliance in my Home Office. It has a very small footprint (6.6" Wide) & blends with any office decor.
I was shocked on my first scan by the speed & resolution of the image! The paper zoomed through the scanner, producing a beautiful image of BOTH SIDES of the paper!
There are many options: Scan to Print, to Desktop, to Dropbox, to Email, just to name a few. Scan JPEG, PDF, and many other options.
Load up to 50 pages at once & work as it scans both sides simultaneously at up to 35 copies / minute (black) or slightly slower for color. I set my DPI to 300. It came default at 200 DPI & will go as high as 1200 DPI.
I elected to connect this scanner wirelessly using WIFI, rather than USB. The Wireless Networking capability is amazing! Equally simple to connect on both my Windows 10 & my MacOS 10.14.6 without using USB. I can access it from another computer in the house over 50 feet away using WIFI.
It is QUIET! You can have a Zoom Meeting while this Scanner is working without conflict. Easy to identify LED's show connectivity on the front panel. Please see 6) photos I posted that show this scanner in use on my desk.
CONCLUSION: The Epson WorkForce ES-500W II is the BEST Office Scanner I have ever owned & I have owned virtually every brand in existence. It is my favorite appliance in my office & I recommend it without reservation!

Fast multi-page 2-sided document scanner for home

If you are looking for a fast scanner for your home office to handle document scan jobs, this Epson model is for you.
I will start with the positives:
- Fast. This is the fastest scanner I have ever owned.
- It handles a lot of paper. The specs say up to 50 pages can be loaded. I loaded a 50 page document and it scanned all 50 pages without a jam in less than 2 minutes (did I say it was fast)?
- 2-sided scan. It captures both sides of a document at the same time which is great for someone like me who has been living with a flatbed scanner, having to manually turn the page over.
- It offers lot of options for managing where you save or send your scanned documents such as putting them directly into your cloud storage (Google Drive, Dropbox, Evernote and OneDrive appear as standard options). You can just as easily browse for anything on your network.
- The option for saving to a searchable PDF works well and is especially handy. This seems to be the biggest improvement over the previous model which, according to reviews, was plagued with poor OCR.
- The mobile option works well. Using the app on my phone, I was able to perform a scan and manage it from my phone including saving to any of my local or cloud locations or email.
- The compact footprint is acceptable for a home office. It is not too heavy or large.
Now I will talk about the downsides:
- This is clearly just a document scanner. It is not intended for photos. I tested a few photos on it and it does well enough with the option to scan at up to 1200 dpi (slower, but acceptable, and remember to turn off the Detect Double Feed function). But this does not solve the problem if you have a bunch of photographs lying around that you want to digitize. The same goes for small receipts. Epson sells dedicated products for both those uses.
- The set up is supposed to be easy, but the scanner can only connect to your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi band. Since it does not have a keyboard, you have to rely on your WPS to connect. If your computer is on the 5 GHz band, you will need to take your computer off the 5 GHz band and move it temporarily into the 2.4 GHz band for the connection. The process may involve a reset of your router and repeat of the software installation and scanner setup process.
- Nowhere in the literature or the website’s User Guide does it talk about potential problems with conflicts between my installed Epson 2 software and the new Epson ScanSmart software. Being a longtime Epson user, I had Epson Print and Scan/Scan 2 software installed on my computer. As I followed the ES-500W II setup instructions, my computer would not recognize the scanner. I called Epson support at 5:30 PM on a Friday afternoon and got connected to a person who attempted to assist me. I got cut off after 30 minutes of being told to do the usual (follow the instructions, unplug, plug in, turn off, turn on, uninstall driver, reinstall driver, etc.) and then called back. After another 30 minutes, she finally told me I needed to make sure the Epson 2 software was not running, but that I could not delete it because my previous Epson flatbed scanner is not backwards compatible with Epson ScanSmart software. Once I got past the two drivers fighting each other, my computer recognized the ES500W II and the set up was complete. But I did lose an hour of my time that I will never get back and which could have been avoided if Epson could provide instructions regarding the co-existence with previous versions of Epson software.
Bottom line: I am happy with my new Epson scanner because of the speed and efficiency as compared to my old Epson flatbed scanner, but It does not meet all my scanning needs and I will keep both. I would recommend the ES-500W II to any home office user who wants to get rid of as much paper as possible and have easy access to digital versions of documents with minimal effort.

Excellent Office Scanner

The Epson WorkForce ES-500W is a fantastic wireless scanner with capabilities that far exceed what you would expect from its small profile. Overall it is much smaller than your typical AIO printer so it can fit on a desk or hutch without dominating the space.
Some key things that stuck out about this Scanner:
+It is FAST. Lightning quick scanning speeds compared to some AIOs.
+It automatically scans in duplex mode so both sides of a document are scanned and uploaded.
+The software and app are very robust and allow you to send documents in a number of different formats and even to online cloud resources like OneDrive.
+50 document paper feeder allows you to tear through some stacks of documents.
+Excellent scan quality at up to 1200dpi.
+Completely wireless functionality after initial set-up. You can scan from any device that has the Epson scan software loaded on it that's on the network.
I did have some issues during set-up using WPS. After connecting to my mesh network using the Linksys App using the WPS Connect feature, the install would stall at the EpsonNet configuration. The installer kept saying no Scanner detected. I had to close out the Installer and run it again, at which point it did see the Scanner on the network and allowed me to choose it and continue with set-up.
Overall the installer walkthrough was good, the graphics are really dated so maybe they can use a UI/UX designer to clean that up but the functionality is excellent. Once you're done setting the Scanner up, it will update the firmware which went fast and smoothly overall.
Great scanner for home office use, receipts, tax documents, mortgage documents, basically anything that is really important to you that you want a backup of. It can do pictures in a pinch but the resolution isn't quite up to the level you might want to digitize photos.

It has been one week since this scanner was delivered. As one who is technically challenged, I found the set up from a main computer to be quite easy. Once the wireless functions were working, the scanner and accompanying software make the Workforce 500Wii a must have to organize documents for taxes and other home purposes.

Bought the 400 at first but that was not wireless so then ordered the 500 and this one was much better due to the connection to Wi-Fi. Both do the same job and would highly recommend both but for the little amount more the 500 is better. The scanning is quick and setup is easy.

I have used these scanners at work. Some people have had them for a long time. They’ve never had a problem with them. They are super easy to setup and use. This is comes in very useful if you need to scan a lot of appears all at once. My MFP that I have, takes too long.

This has been such a great investment. I had been using my all-in-one to scan documents. It was slow and tedious. This has been a game changer for me. I am now looking for documents I can scan! Easy to program, ease of set up. Don't hesitate like I did.
