This Epson Ds 500 W II scanner is perfect for my small office. It's very compact allowing me to place it on my desk without it getting in the way. Setup was very easy, and I love that it is wireless allowing me to use it from any area. My favorite thing about this scanner is that I can load all of my documents in it at one time and it scans them all super fast saving me so much time and energy from scanning individually and waiting. The color quality is amazing and nothing comes out distorted when scanning. This scanner allows me to keep everything organize and scanned in as my documents come in. I am all over the place when it comes to hard paper copies of things because I can never keep track of them but this allows me stay organized and save everything important that I need for later use. It can scan up to 50 documents fast in its auto feeder. I can scan to my cloud storage and have them all organized.
I have had no misfeed issues with this scanner. Everything has worked properly, speedy and effectively. If you are scanning tons of papers, receipts, documents on a daily basis this is the scanner I recommend. Pirtable, easy to use, speedy and great quality. I am loving my new wireless color scanner. It was super easy to unbox and set up, it didn't take long at all, and I'm not a computer genius. It scans pretty fast from the auto feeder that can hold up to 50 sheets. Doing 2 sided documents is also super easy with this scanner. It has so many options...I can scan to dropxbox, google drive, evernote, etc. If I want to get fancy I can create searchable PDF files. The fact that it is wireless is great because I can un-clutter my desk and keep it nearby without a ton of cords going around. I also finally got organized by scanning my small size collections of things like business cards I've accumulated as well as receipts up to larger documents. It is literally just load and scan. Family photos will be my next project since the color is vibrant.
I highly recommend this small but mighty scanner for business or personal use, it will simplify your life and your paperwork. I know Epson has great customer service and they stand behind their products when needed. Many scanners come and go in our office but this one is here for good. The ES-500W II is the best scanner our office has seen to date. Super easy to set up and begin use. Plug in, download the software and connect and the scanning begins. My favorite features of this scanner are the front/back page scan, super fast scan with crisp, clean pages and truly wireless technology that does not lose connection or effect the quality. We rely heavily on a quality scanner to create electronic documents for archiving. We have used the scanner with various sizes of paper, receipts, photo's and other documents and never have had a jam. We love that this item can be easily taken to different offices and used with the app to control the functions of the scanner. A truly quality product that provides the best scan. The Epson ES-500W II scanner is my newest office buddy. It's quick and easy to set up. It set up so quickly I didn't think it was actually set up. It's connected to my computer and also to my phone.
I constantly scan to email and load things to my computer. This scanner scans so quick and easily that before you know it, it's done. It also scans both sides of the paper! Talking about a great feature! Instead of scanning on side flip over the scan again, you just put it on the diel setting and you have both sides.
The Epson ES-500W II is compact sized. It doesn't take up much space at all. It sits in the corner of the desk next to the printer. It doesn't get in the way at all. This scanner has been a lifesaver and will be great for any office or home.

I'm very impressed with this scanner. It was really easy to set up and it didnt take very long. It's lightweight and compact, so it was easy to find a space for it. It's also wireless, so it doesn't need to be set up right next to my computer.
It scans the all of my documents quickly and efficiently. I'm able to get all of my paperwork organized, making my life so much easier. I use it for scanning all my business paperwork, receipts ect. As well as all my personal paperwork. Everything it scans is high quality and you can view it and adjust as needed. It conveniently scans both sides and scans in color. Everything I have scanned looks great.
I would definitely recommend this scanner. It's super easy, convenient and works great!

This machine is a workhorse--perfect for jobs small and large. It can scan piles of documents with ease and speed! The scanning settings give you tremendous control over the image scanned -- including the level of background removal, text enhancement, color enhancement, edge fill, descreening, removal of punch holes, brightness, contrast, gamma, threshold, skew correction, etc. (Some of these nifty features require the 600dpi resolution or lower, but it scans up to 1200dpi). I tinkered with it for a few minutes until my document scans were perfectly to my liking. (I'd tinker again if scanning photographs.) This scanner has some convenient/thoughtful options I haven't seen before, including a slow mode button to slow down scanning speed for papers that tend to jam up (for example, thin receipts) and a button to skip double feed detection for when you are scanning a business card or thicker document. You can set it to scan duplex and remove blank pages as a default setting and, once scanned, it has an easy button to let you toggle for one-sided scanning if you don't need the back pages (useful with some bills). You can scan to a number of formats (pdf, jpeg, tiff, etc.), and can choose to have the documents OCR'ed by choosing the "searchable pdf" as the file format upon saving (took me a while to figure that out!). It offers a number of options for saving the filing, including saving it locally, attaching it to an email, uploading it to Google Drive, Dropbox, etc. It offers both wired and wireless connections, which is nice for a multi-computer home. This will definitely be my go-to scanner going forward (and I had been loyal to a competitor's scanners). Once you wrap your head around all the options (took me about a half hour), the ability to customize the options is incredible! Purchase one you'll love it!

Awesome Hardware, Software and Wireless Setup, Meh

First impressions: The unboxing of the scanner was straightforward and simple. The product along with accessories were easy to remove from the box, and everything was out and plugged into the wall within minutes. The scanner is a nice modern, black color design that does not take up much footprint when in the closed position. Even with the rear feed tray and front trays extended, it does not take up an absurdly large amount of space.
Setup & Usage: The device is supports both USB 3.0 and WiFi capabilities. The Epson ScanSmart utility can be downloaded from the product support page. Software installation itself was simple, however, configuring the WiFi settings on the scanner was much more involved and not easy at all for the average user. The software did not automatically detect the scanner in order to connect to it to apply the AP settings of my own network. Multiple attempts were made, but the ScanSmart setup utility refused to discover the printer. I had to connect the scanner with a USB 3.0 cable, install Epson NetConfig utility, and push my wireless settings to the scanner that way in order for it to connect to my home network. This is definitely not what an average home user would think of to do, and most likely will be calling up support very quickly. The ScanSmart installer boats about WPS as an option to connect with WiFi-Direct, but WPS is a dated authentication technology with security vulnerabilities and should not be included on the device in the first place.
Scanning documents itself is fast and straightforward - just make sure you orient your documents correctly in the rear feed tray; documents go in with the front side and top being facing down. The scanner processes multi-page documents very quickly, with double sided capture working like a charm. ScanSmart was able to sense the sizes of my documents and receipts with ease, ranging from standard 8.5 x 11 letter size paper to long store receipts resembling the ones you get at CVS. The scanning software also allows you to choose a variety of document format outputs other than PDF after scanning, which is very convenient if you are scanning a picture vs. scanning text only documents.
I would like to highlight the duplex functionality of the printer, which saves so much time compared to non-duplex scanners. The speed at which the scanner processes double sided documents is quite quick, with the limitation being how fast your computer and the Epson software can process the scans. As mentioned previously, make sure you insert the front side of your double sided page face down, otherwise, the page order will be scanned and processed in reverse. This is not an issue for a single page of double sided content as it can be easily corrected in a PDF editor like Adobe Acrobat, but if you are scanning stack of documents, it is less than ideal to have everything the wrong direction.
Scan Quality: Being primarily a document scanner, the quality has been flawless on all my receipts and standard documents, with clear text that was easily processed by OCR and made editable in Adobe Acrobat. For color image scans, the color resolution and tones are slightly lacking, but for the most part, get the job done. Granted, this was not designed for scanning and digitizing photographs and artwork so if you are looking for a scanner that preserves image coloring with minimal tweaks to the software, I suggest looking elsewhere for something better suited for the job. See pictures for examples of quality.
For the time that I have used the machine for its intended designed purpose, it has outperformed the previous scanners that I have owned. I hope that the device continues to perform well into its service life, producing speedy, quality scans. I have not needed to contact customer service for any reason other than looking at the support website for troubleshooting the Wireless Setup process. I give this product an unbiased, 4/5 stars so far based off these experiences.

Great scanner. This is my first sheet fed scanner though I've had a couple of flatbed scanners. I always wanted to try a sheet feed scanner so I tried this one out. Epson makes good stuff and have been around for a long time.
I really like that it's wireless since I mostly use a laptop at various locations around the house. Also can connect via usb if you prefer. Easy connection (at least for me) to my home network. Fast and quiet, handles up to 50 sheets with dual side scanning. Good software plus mobile app.
One thing to note is you can't really use a sheet fed scanner for scanning bulky items like a book or magazine (or your butt) unless you tear out the pages but for most items like receipts, bills, or tax documents it works great. Really makes you more organized since you don't have to dig through a bunch of file folders to find some document. Still may want to hang on to the originals though since sometimes they may be needed.
Really a nice scanner that you'll likely wonder how you got by without it.

I always have documents laying around in our home office. I received the Workforce ES-500W II Wireless Duplex Desktop Document Scanner and have been gathering all my documents to scan them digitally on my computer.
The scanner was so easy to set up, it comes with everything you need. It comes with the user guide where you just need to go and download the software and once you connect it to your Wifi you just need to load the documents face down and it will capture both sides of the documents. You will be able to preview the image on your computer, where it will ask you if you want to make adjustments and where you want to save the image at. I love how fast this scanner is and how you can add up to 50 sheets to scan at once. What I also really do like is that it scans the documents in color and you can scan from your phone too. It looks amazing on my desk and it does not take up much space.
I really do recommend it to anyone who needs to scan documents to their computer, its easy to set up and use.

There is scanners and then there is a amazing scanners. This scanner is definitely the latter. At about 8 pounds this scanner packs an awesome punch. Through Covid I am needing to work a lot more from home and lack scanning capabilities so had to make a trip to the library or UPS anytime I need scanning. Needless to say this isn’t the most convenient of situations, but better then being in the office. So when this came about I was super excited to give it a try. The size is great for my little makeshift desk area. Scanning is super quick at 35 pages per minute (holding 50 pages), and great quality scans (for an affordable scanner option of its size) and it is wireless.
Setup was super simple and easily was compatible it took me about 5 min to fully setup. The duplex scanning capabilities was also a nice extra bonus. This is well worth the amount and perfect for any at home office.

The WorkForce ES-500W II has simplified my home office scanning. The Intuitive Epson ScanSmart Software allows me to preview, email and upload my documents to my cloud account effortlessly. I am not an organizer and this feature along with ability to create searchable PDFs saves me a lot of frustration. The best feature is the Duplex Scan feature. It saves me time by scanning both sides of the documents in one scan. No more re-scanning the same pages. This scanner also has a 50 sheet auto document feeder which frees me from having to sort & load as with my old scanner. I love how quickly this scanner works. Time is money. The size of the scanner is perfect for a home office or small business office. It occupies very little space and has a modern design. For the simplicity of software, the scanner features and the design, I rate it an A+. A multi-utility scanner that does the boring & tiring scanning jobs quickly and easily. It fits perfectly on one corner of my desk and looks great sitting there. The best part is its 50 pages auto document feeder that really scans through stacks of paper and that too from both sides. This saves time and effort immensely. It can scan from 35 pages to 70 pages/minute, which is incredible. The color and image adjustment features are handy to make the scanning pretty. This also gives me the ability to easily preview, email & upload the scanned documents easily. No more scanning one paper at a time, it neither misfeeds nor double feeds the paper and ensures that no page is skipped while doing a stack scan. Overall this is a great scanner for any small business or people like me working from home who has to scan a lot of papers. At first glance it looks so compact, setup was such a breeze. My system recognized and installed the driver right away, I did however had to go to the Epson website to download some software. which also was quite easy to install, once installed completely, I had to try it first I scanned id cards.it scanned both sides I think it took about 2 seconds to scan 4 cards. yes, it was that fast, I then really put it to a test and scan 13 standard-size papers also full-duplex it's amazingly fast. by the way, it was able to scan id cards and my printer's scanner couldn't because the guides were able to close to form fit the ids. it will be an amazing addition to any office! First of all, this is a speedy little scanner, and once you use one of these, you may never go back to the old, painfully slow snail-scan. With the simultaneous front and back scanning, it cuts even that down to half the time.
Unboxing and setup was easy peasy. At least until I got to the install. Long story short (see longer version below*), I ended up having to call Epson support. The tech I spoke with had the solution. He was very good - albeit a bit testy, I didn't need him to be warm and fuzzy and thank me every 15 seconds (as is often the case), but he seemed a little angry at me for disturbing his day. However, after less than a 10 minute call, I had both computers recognizing the device, as well as my android phone. He got the job done, and I was off and running.
Next, I began by scanning a pile of randomly-sized documents. Lots of 8.5x11 medical receipts, insurance docs, half-page recipes, etc. Even though the pile was not all the same size, the scanner processed them all just fine. Options for saving format were bmp, jpg, png, pdf, tiff or multi-tiff. Basically, anything you would need, and lots of settings for each option. The sheet feeder is very forgiving, and handled it all gracefully.
I then moved on to photos, again a variety of shapes and sizes and styles. Even the vintage prints from the 60s that had the frilly edges. The scanning options list resolution from 75 up to 1200 dpi, however 600 dpi seemed sufficient for regular sized photos, and it did an excellent job. There is an option under "image type" for "auto" which makes it possible to choose between color/grayscale, or color/black and white. Brilliant! I'm very impressed with the results, too. I have always assumed that flatbed scanners were superior for photos, but now I doubt that, and will probably be doing some side-by-side tests. I have thousands of photos and this little puppy will be a great time-saver for getting them all stored and backed up. There are settings galore for everything from image settings to remove punch holes, OCR for receipt scanning, etc, even removing background, for making transparent png files.
** Long(er) story: I have 2 different (Windows) computers - neither of which recognized the scanner when I plugged it into the usb 3.0 port. The software was very glitchy and even connecting it via wi-fi was a chore. When I finally called Epson tech support for some help, there were 2 problems: 1) because I already have a number of Epson products on my network, the new scanner did not play well with others and I had to manually remove them before it would connect to the 500W II (and will have to re-install them manually - fingers crossed), and 2) there was something that was supposed to be installed with the software that didn't get put into the correct folder during the install. The tech had me install a tool that I downloaded from the Epson website, which apparently did not work as expected - even the second time around. For others that have the same problem, do not give up. The app you want is es2launcher.exe (Epson Scan 2), that's where the magic is. I do love Epson products, but I have to say their software is often not up to par with the hardware. Other than these one-time issues, I DO recommend the scanner and feel it is a very good value.

Just received and works well.
It works well for different sizes of paper as I tried a few different sizes and it automatically figured out page size, so that was nice to not have to change any settings for different sizes. This scanner thus far is fast, accurate, and doesn't skip pages. I like making and or choosing a folder and file name that I want the document scanned to before starting the scan. It ran almost 40 pages quite quickly and no jams. I tried it to scan documents, business cards, receipts, and much more so it’s pretty versatile with different types of papers and sizes.
I also saw I can check a setting to do double-sided and then tell it to auto skip blank pages so that worked well too. It also detected auto color and black and white or greyscale. It also finds the dates printed on the documents and names the file accordingly. That was great for naming structure.
The software is fairly easy to use, still learning all the settings but wasn’t too tough to figure out of the box. I have a small business with some invoices and paperwork so was good to file them and not have them on my desk any more. I might try to scan some of my artwork and drawings as well. I used to use a flatbed scanner but only negative is not being able to scan cardboard or thicker photos as I could with a flatbed.

A+++ Outperforms a full size office copier

The compact size of the box that the 500W comes in belies its capabilities. This is quite the little workhorse. As a preamble to my review I would first note that in my heated garage sits a full size Sharp office copier that was transferred from my wife's office, the purpose of which was to scan & digitize a veritable truckload of documents from her title insurance business.
As I prepared to setup the 500W, my previous experience in setting up scanners with Twain drivers had me expecting to give up a minimum of an hour or two getting the PC to recognize the unit. After unboxing, turning the unit on and connecting to wifi, I see that it was looking for an firmware update and I said "here we go." I was pleasantly surprised that it completed the update, and after downloading the install package from the Epson site it was up & ready to run in about 20 minutes.
The wireless capability of the 500W allows you to place the unit remotely, I can retain my standard color/photo printer adjacent to my PC; the Epson on a separate table where it can stretch out its input/output trays. When not in use, it folds up quite compactly & can be stored unobtrusively in a cubby hole or under a desk. (Another great feature of wireless operation.)
The speed at which the 500W operates is a bit mind blowing. I'd grown use to the sound of the full sized copier rollers & belts with its steady ka-chunk, ka-chunk you could hear across the house. That's been reduced to a pleasant whoosh-whoosh at a greatly reduced sound level. And the Epson does it at better than twice the speed. Bonus - full size copier maintenance is not cheap - the cost of one service call can easily exceed the cost of the Epson.
There was also one unexpected advantage that we found in testing out the Epson. It is not recommended as a photo scanner, but we tried it out. If you're not looking for perfection, it's not bad at all. We have shoeboxes and photo albums of family history going back 50+ years which we were able to quickly digitize and make collages of. In less than a couple of minutes we were able to take mom's wedding album & load it onto her Ipad where she can page through it. Attempting that with a flatbed scanner would take considerably longer; the Epson just whips through it. Mind you, I would not use this for a modern high resolution image, but for converting a pile of photos, it makes for great convenience.
Overall, extremely pleased with the performance of the 500W, at the current price point it's an excellent tool to digitize & recycle a pile of paper quickly & easily.

I really can't say enough good things about this scanner. EPSON really has a winner here if you need documents, receipts, checks or other items scanned in a quick and efficient manner. I am a real estate agent and constantly out in the field signing contracts and documents and the EPSON ES-500W makes converting these into digital form a chore of the past.
Setup was probably one of the easiest for a product in recent memory. Usually you laboriously have to connect the device manually with a cable and then connect through the wifi and that requires typing in on a small screen and then disconnecting the device, but the setup for this took less than 2 minutes through an install on my computer. The program automatically synced my wifi without asking for the password and before I knew it the scanner was ready to go. After that the Scanner worked exactly as advertised. One button scans wirelessly tells my mac to load the scanning software and the Scanner works through document like its on overdrive. Stacks of documents are done in mere seconds and are perfectly scanned into my computer. Receipts are perfectly scanned front and back and checks are even scanned in color with all the ink lines in perfect pristine condition. Like I said earlier being a realtor I need to scan everything for tax and compliance purposes. Before I would either have to use camscan on my phone or scan them in one by one with my older scanner. This literally will save me hours upon hours of time over the course of ownership. I couldn't recommend this scanner more if I tried. If you're thinking about buying a scanner for this is by far the best scanner I've ever used and highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.

I wish I went for a stand-alone scanner like this a long time ago. Full duplex scanning where it scans both sides simultaneously is wonderful! It flies through large documents fast! I also love how easily it can scan business cards. The first time I scanned a card, it came out so fast that I didn’t notice. The image quality was excellent.
So far, I have only noticed two small negatives. Barcodes require a high resolution to come through accurately. I think with the speed of the scan, it seems to struggle specifically with barcodes unless the DPI is pretty high. The other small issue is that the one touch scan button on the scanner itself does not work over WiFi. Since the scanner has such a small form factor, it sits on my desk, next to my computer, so this is not an issue for me. I simply click once in the software, and the beautiful image is instantly created.
The included software is extremely easy to use. It can save multiple file types either locally or to many of the popular cloud services. Even better with that is I can hide the services I don’t want, so the software is not cluttered.
One other slight negative is that the receipt software / integration into Quickbooks is not free. Some people may really care about that. I don’t use Quickbooks, so it is not important to me.
Last but not least, the small form factor is even smaller when the scanner is not in use. The top folds down and acts as a dust cover. I think that is an excellent design. Dusty scanners are extremely annoying.
Overall, I am really happy. It does everything I need a scanner to do.
