It;s a great printer. It's smart, can scan through the WIFI, in addition to printing. I find it quiet. I recommend it.

I'm happy that I should be saving plenty of money on ink. I'm not happy with the resolution of the print-outs. Documents often have lines and are not the best quality. The rear paper feeder often results in misaligned documents.

I chose this printer because it has refillable toner cartridges rather than purchasing new cartridges when toner runs low. Have not had to refill as yet, but anticipate this will be more cost effective in the long run.

Great printer and worth the extra money

Let me start by saying that this is a real review of the Epson ET-4500 as I actually purchased the printer myself back around Black Friday 2015 from Best Buy ($350 + tax) when they were running a promotion to get $50 off an Epson printer when you recycled your old one. I’m an engineer, and I researched this printer for a couple of months before buying it. I was considering getting a color laser printer at the time because I was tired of buying HP ink cartridges every other month. Then I saw the Epson Eco Tank printers and was very interested in trying one, but the price tag made me nervous. Let’s just say it’s worth the price!
I have now had this printer for about four months, have printed a couple of hundred pages in both black & white and full color, and my ink levels are all still nearly at full. The setup was extremely easy, and unless you’re a complete klutz, you shouldn’t make a mess when filling up the ink tanks (just take your time and read the directions). I have put my printer through some of my own tests, and it has done extremely well. I found a printer test image online (search for Datacolor Printer Test Image) and all 16 of the pictures looked fantastic on Kodak photo paper. We also printed two 50+ page Disney autograph books in full color using this printer and they looked great (plus the ink levels barely moved). The only downside that I have seen with the color is that the red ink is a little muted / pale (not as bright as I would like) but I didn’t buy this to be a photo printer.
The scanner works really well and I think saving $100 to not have duplex printing and scanning was a good choice as I don’t need duplexing very often, and flipping the page and putting it back through with the rear feed on this model is extremely easy.
Overall, this printer is a 4.5/5.0, well worth the extra money as you’ll save money within six months, and the only drawback I have seen is the vibrancy of the reds in printing. From someone that over-researches things before buying, I highly recommend you take the plunge on an Epson Eco Tank, and stop wasting money on cartridges.

After only 4 months, the savings in ink cartridges has already covered the additional cost of the printer and I have a long way to go before a refill will be needed.

Epson has hit a home run with this printer and it's longer lasting bottle ink system. It eliminates endless runs to buy ink cartridges.

First off, I am not seeing 6500 copies on a bottle. Totally off and it depends on if your just using black, maybe 2500. This machine has the worst, most temperamental scanner I have ever used. It says its "jammed" when its not. It gets jammed continually, no matter the quality of the paper. Very time consuming to deal with. It takes a long time to scan 20 pages. If you need something speedy, go elsewhere
The company's instructions are useless and if you call customer service more than once, they try to charge you.
Ink price is better than the alternatives. Quality of print is average. I would only recommend this to someone complaining about the price of ink

Great Printer! No More Cartridges!!

I'm a small business owner and I have been in need of a new printer for quite some time. Our current printer is an Epson Workforce 840 and it has worked flawlessly, but with 10 employees it was becoming a bottleneck. It was also always in need of a cartridge change. As much as I like the 840, I can't stand how small the cartridges are. So, the Workforce ET-4550 was an amazing find! Improved features and quality, but the best feature is that there are no more cartridges! The ink reservoirs are massive and are amazingly easy to fill. I was worried about spilling ink during the initial filling process, however it was incredibly easy and I didn't spill a drop. After that, we turned on the printer and once the ink tanks charged for a minutes, the printer was ready to go. Got it on to our WiFi network in a few minutes and we were ready to go. The interface on the front panel is easier to use than I expected. Everything was well laid out and intuitive. The print speed is pretty impressive given the good quality. The prints are very sharp and images even look good which isn't always the case on all-in-one business printers. The printer loads by placing paper vertically in a wide tray at the back of the machine. This is much easier to use than the removable paper trays that I use on my 840.
The printer is fast and the quality is great, but let's face it the reason to buy this printer are the massive ink reservoirs. I hope that most other printers will adopt this idea. The capacity and price of cartridges are ridiculous. So, I'm glad to see a new option out on the market that doesn't require me to order / change ink every other day. Highly recommend!!
I received this printer in advance from Epson in exchange for my impartial review.
