Epson knocks it out of the park again

I honestly wasn’t expecting to be impressed when I was offered to beta test the Epson WF-4740, as I already had a multi-function printer at home that I liked. I’m glad to say I was wrong! I had about two weeks to put the machine through its paces, so I haven’t done extensive testing but so far it’s been great. Here’s why: - Build quality is solid. This is a heavy printer, to the extent that, when I saw the unpacking instructions want you to pull the printer out of the box using plastic bag handles, I thought the bag would split due to the weight of the printer (fortunately it did not). It was also securely packed, and all loose or moveable components were attached with so much blue tape I could probably build a Smurf. No wussy, creaky plastic pieces here. The ink cartridges were both taped and vacuum sealed to keep them from leaking or drying out. - Set up was pretty easy. I used the quick-start guide and was able to get the test print pages going within a few minutes. Wifi setup was decent; the first time the software on my PC thought the wifi setup had failed (likely a timeout issue) but running it a second time resolved it. I was able to print from my iPhone directly as an AirPrint device within minutes of connecting the printer to my home wifi - Two thumbs up on the print quality. It’s inkjet, so don’t expect laser print quality, but it’s not far off and doesn’t scream “this will run in the rain” like a lot of older inkjet technology. Colors on plain paper are completely usable (so you can print a lot of cat pictures and stick them to your fridge) and when I used glossy photo paper, I was solidly impressed. The colors popped and the black was not greyed-out - Noise level is fairly low (the cats did not panic when the printer started) though, being inkjet, you will hear cartridge carrier and paper advance noise. Once you’re done printing, you may head a little additional noise, which I believe is the ink cartridge carrier resetting and/or self-cleaning. - Scanning worked flawlessly, even at 1200dpi (which would cause my other multi-function printer to throw errors). Speed to scan is good, and color representation is clear. The interface is nice and simple as well, asking you just the right questions (what are you scanning, where do you want to save the file, what do you want to name it, what the scan dpi is, etc). - The control panel is great! It’s honestly a relief to not have to squint at a tiny non-backlit monochrome display to determine what mode I’m in and what the printer is trying to tell me. The icons are unique enough to be fairly self-explanatory, and the fact that the console pivots means you can view it easily whether it’s at eye level or higher / lower when you’re using it. Some things to know: -Printer does not come with a USB or Ethernet cable, but you probably have a shoebox full of both at home should you decide not to use it as a wireless printer - The ink cartridges are starter ones, but the estimates are about 450-500 pages, so you’ll still be able to print a lot of cat pictures before worrying about ordering the standard or XL cartridges as a refill. - Control panel has beeps turned on by default, which is a tad annoying, but the menu option to turn off the sounds is fairly easy to locate - The second paper tray does specify “plain paper only” so if you’re printing glossy photos, use the top tray I did not have a chance to test the fax functions (no landline at home anymore), or the “print from USB” feature, though I expect to play with that over the next few weeks. Overall, if I was looking for a new color multi-function printer, this would be a very strong contender. This is a review for the Epson WorkForce Pro WF-4740 All-in-One Printer that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review.

    My Go-To Business Printer!

I’ve had the Epson 4740 for quite awhile and I definitely think that this is a keeper! I’ve owned many other laser and inkjet printers in the past for my accounting business that I run out of my home and this one has a very sweet list of features that give me the confidence I need to run my business without worrying about breakdowns and inconveniences. 4740 vs 4720 As a preface, I previously have had the Epson 4720 which I liked, but this new 4740 rounded off the rough edges. The 4740 has a 500 page paper capacity versus only 250 on the 4720, AND we finally have duplex printing on the new 4740 which is great for those who like to save paper like me. Speed From pressing the ON button to hitting print on my iPhone and/or laptop, I counted about 7 seconds for the first full color page to come out of the printer. That beats all of my previous inkjet and laser printers by probably about 10 seconds (although comparable to the 4720). I tested the duplex printing and it was equally as impressive taking about 10 seconds to print full color duplex print jobs. Once the initial page comes out, color pages come out within seconds of each other. I was honestly blown away by the speed since this matches the commercial printers I’ve seen in downtown office buildings for a larger accounting firm I used to work at. Black and white pages come even quicker and I’d bank on probably no more than 2 seconds per page. Amazing. Quality For quality this one was impressive. I printed photo’s using photo quality paper and the colors were extremely bright and popped off the page. However, I’d say that the quality is not on-par with the professional printer that I have that is built specifically for photos. The difference was that for really sunny shots and bright colors, the colors tend to wash out slightly; but for a multi-purpose office printer I was very impressed. I also use this a lot for my Client’s tax returns and financial statements and I use higher quality dense paper and I have not once seen my A4 paper jam up inside the machine. The quality of the build on this printer is good, and the quality of the printing for tax return and general word processing use exceeded my expectations since I like to provide my Client’s with clear documents. Scanner and WiFi The scanner bed is only for those that use it for A4 or smaller documents, but for me that is my only use so it was okay for me. The quality here was also great and I could not tell the difference between the original and scanned copy. My old scanner had lots of artifacting but this one is very clean and crisp. I also wanted to add how easy it was to setup and use the WiFi. The printer detected my home router immediately and my iPhone was able to connect to the printer just as easily. The setup walks you through each and every step and I was able to get up and going within minutes. The printer did go through about 5 minutes’ worth of firmware updates when WiFi was first connected, but after that the printer usually updates by itself when not in use which is great. I love the fact that the only wire I need for this printer is the power cable and that’s it!!! Noise For me I don’t mind printer noise, and I’d say that the hums and noises that come from this printer is very minimal, but do not expect to not hear anything at all as it is still a mechanical device. I’d say that the noises on this printer is very equivalent to the 4720 if not the same. Ink Usage This printer uses the slim 802 cartridges and you can also use the XL cartridges as well. After about 500 pages of black and white and 200 pages of full color, I still have not received any kind of low ink warning so I think the ink conservancy of this device is pretty good so far. Conclusion This printer pretty much has it all. Speed, quality, and versatility for me to efficiently run my home business. I always hate the task of printing documents because of jams etc, but this printer solved all my printer problems of yore and actually makes printing a joy. I just want to emphasize again, THIS THING PRINTS FAST!!! This is a review for the Epson WorkForce Pro WF-4740 All-in-One Printer that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review.

As I received my package from FedEx, I noticed it was in the latest box design from Epson, it seems very informative for the us consumer about its features which as you know when going out to buy something and don’t have time to the research the box is your only guide and it has plenty of information on all four sides and top of the box. Just the box, alone will help you decide if you want to buy it.it seems to have quite a few good features, here are a few of them it's wireless, it prints, scans and faxes and can also be used with an ethernet RJ45 connection, it supposed to print above laser quality, claims to print 900 pages on using just black Epson 802 ink and 2600 pages with the larger 802XL ink cartridge. color printing it claims to print 650 pages with 802 ink set and 1900 with the 802XL cartriges.it prints 24 pages per minute black and 22 pages per minute in color, it also features double sided printing which in my opinion is a great feature to have in a printer especially with a small business, scan resolution 1200 x 2400dp/ppp, it also features a large LCD Screen 4.3 inches, it uses Epson's PrecisisonCore ink which is economical, durable, and has great resolution, now to the unboxing. The box is easy to open with scissors or letter opener, As I opened the box I see on top the packet with congratulation letter on selecting this product, Installation CD, manual, and quick setup guides. I must say the packet was in a very durable Ziploc bag which to me means they put a lot of attention in to packaging also to protect the contents when storing them, the printer itself was in a durable bag as well with handles for easy removal from box. but you still require some help to Take It Out. once you remove the bag and you are automatically impressed by its look, you must remove a lot of blue stabilizing tape which is what I call it. make sure you get all of it before you set it up. Under the top scanner feeder tray there you will find another packet with standard T802 ink. I made sure to have access to all doors and compartments before proceeding. and now the setup. For the setup you must have a CD-ROM, a usb cord, and if you are going to use the wired option you need the following a standard ethernet (RJ45) wire. Which is not provided. Setup for a person like me was very easy but for the average person it could be a little tricky, here’s why some laptops, like mine don’t have a CD-ROM drive.so here is the method I used to set it up which was still quite easy, since I am going the wireless route, I went to the Epson support site and downloaded the installation file to my laptop and proceeded by clicking on the install file But before that you need to use that usb cable I told you about earlier so the pc and the printer can communicate during the setup process all you do is follow the prompts which will include installing the ink also fairly easy just remember to shake each cartage 5 times before putting it in the printer , it will also do a firmware update which can take up to 10 min depending on your internet speed and its sets itself up. I thought it was simple. At the end, it will ask you to register. Now once it is set up. And you will be amazed with the speed and the quality of the test page. I highly recommend this printer. Best Epson printer I’ve had to date.by the way you can also set it up stand alone, wirelessly through the control center itself on the printer but it does require you know your SSID and password for your router. My only concern was the lack of media for people without a cd drive, the folding out of the output tray extender can sometimes be annoying depending on the angle of the control center (LCD Touch screen). Overall, a winner!

I received the Epson and have been experimenting with it for a week, and finally turned off my Brother laser last night because I have found a perfect replacement (at least for my purposes). It seems that the ease of use and speed benefits of the 4740 outweigh any benefits of the laser, and it uses far less energy, so it's time for that old beast to be put in the closet. First impression: As others have mentioned, the unpacking and install went pretty smoothly, the plastic bag with handles that it rests in from the box made it a one-person job, although it is not heavy at all. I set this up to run on a network that has a Windows 10 and a Windows 7 system, and also tested it with an ipad and android phone and all functionality worked better than expected. Features that were tested: Ethernet and wifi connections, print, fax (send/rcv) over a voip line, 2-sided and color photo printing, NFC, scan to USB, scan to email, email to print, 2-sided ADF scan, and scan to network folder. Most users are not going to need ALL of these functions, but it was helpful to know that there are options for different user's needs. Everything worked great, intuitive to figure out and I was impressed. Install: The install was simple, and very quick, however the Install Wizard screens were almost beta-looking plain in appearance, and the written English was awkward. It could use another pass by a native speaker or tech writer to get that polish that makes a product look more professional. The rest of the software, quick start page, and online manual were great, no complaints! The User's Guide is now a bookmark in my browser, as is the control page screen (Epson connect), although I wish it was able to do more. See Wish list below. A few negatives: during install, the last step is to put some icons on the desktop. Even though there is a "cancel" button, it's disabled and you have no choice but to click "Finish" and create icons on the desktop. Don't tease the user, this should be an option via a checkbox on this final screen. During install, the first thing it did after being connected to the network was to find a firmware update. The only problem was that the wizard was still open on the PC, so the printer and the PC were both trying to get and install it. It didn't cause a problem, but I'd recommend doing this via the printer screens. As for networking, the printer name is labeled differently in the direct connection vs. the shared network connection (in one case, listed as Epson WF-4740, and in the network share, "WF-4740" with no reference to Epson). The result is, it changes how they are displayed in an alphabetical printer list, and it took a minute to figure this out. The timeout for the touch screens by default is set for 1 minute, and during setup, when I was not finished with an entry (in the contacts list or network folder location, for example), it timed out and erased what progress I made so far. If you have to look up anything (ex: password for email setting), it can be frustrating, so I'd recommend changing the timeout to a longer time before doing this step. The setup for the email and network folder were a bit clunky. It would have been very helpful if this were editable from the software on the computer. The keyboard screen was confusing until I figured out that the little globe image was NOT just international keyboard, but it was also the way to switch between a-z and 0-9. (3 way toggle) This was not intuitive at all. Perhaps a different icon here would help. Wish list: As mentioned, it would be extremely helpful to have access to a control page from the PC, particularly for entering multiple contacts and other settings. The Mac software can do this, apparently, but it was not available on the PC or other devices. Nice bonus: The printer has a unique email address, so you can send a document via email to the printer and have it print remotely. Photos/color: Printing photos was very fast, although the color needed to be tweaked a bit. Personally, I rarely print photos without messing with color first, but it might take a few prints to get it right, and that means a wa$te of ink and paper. And frankly, an inkjet is never going to replace a color printer for me, they just don't last - but for printing regular color documents, this was more than sufficient and text and color were crisp and solid. I was frustrated by trying to resize a jpg photo from the android Epson iprint software, and ended up making it into a pdf first for it to fit on the page. It would be nice if there were a "scale" option in the settings, but it is limited to printing full page (borderless or border), 2-up or 4-up. Will continue to mess around with this and may post an update. Scanning: My favorite feature was scanning, not only is is super-fast, but the adf double-sided scan was a HUGE time saver. It created a 2-page color pdf @200dpi in under 15 seconds! I can see this coming in very handy for office organization and I now feel empowered to go down the road to becoming "paperless" (or at least get on the on-ramp). I detest the over-used term "jaw-dropping", but I admit I did silently mouth "wow!" when I tried this. Summary: The speed and print quality of documents, and convenience of the networking, as well as printing and scanning from a variety of devices makes this Epson a big win for me. Aside from a few nits (from an admittedly picky geek gal), I'd definitely recommend the WF-4740. On my previous review, I gave this printer 4 stars. All functionality of this printer is excellent and I would love to give it 5 stars. However, as previously mentioned the ink cartridges are difficult to find and can only be ordered from Epson or Best Buy. No one stocks them. In further review, I must lower this rating even lower. Besides ink cartridges, this printer also has something called a maintenance box which is item T6715. I have been unable to find this kit, so I called Epson directly. They confirmed, despite this printer being sold for over 4 months, they have not made this kit available for purchase yet. Keep in mind, this is an approximately $15 serviceable part like an ink cartridge. It slowly gets used up as you print and clean the heads, and once it is used up the printer will cease to work until you replace it. Epson admitted to me they have a long waiting list of people who bought this printer who can no longer print simply because they are waiting on Epson to start selling this kit. That is unacceptable, hence the lower score. I still gave it two stars because the casual home user will most likely not use this kit up entirely for several months to a year, and hopefully Epson will be selling them by that time and this will not affect the majority of users. But the fact that Epson, through bad planning and decision making, has put any users through this issue warrants a lower rating. I would not recommend this printer to anyone until the ink and maintenance box are available for purchase at common retail locations. Once that happens I would highly recommend this printer because functionally it is a really nice printer.

This is not my first printer from Epson, but definitely the best one yet. First things first, I really liked the extremely informative box that it comes in explaining all the different cool features that this multifunction printer can do. Unpacking the box, I really liked how everything was secured enough to ensure no damage through the shipping process, but at the same time very easy to unpack and set up. Most importantly, I really liked the fact that I didn’t have to start putting together pieces and trays on multi-part cords. All that was required (the starter toner and power cord) was securely placed under the top tray. Setting up the printer with my computer and network was also very smooth, very easy process and had it done in minutes. The extremely clear and precise setup guide was very helpful with anything I wasn’t sure about. I really love the very clear and responsive touch screen.I did have one issue with the paper tray not taking the paper properly, and that the tray has a little wiggle room at the end, but after the first confusion everything else was very smooth. I happened to be setting it up wirelessly, but it would’ve been nice to have had the Ethernet cable and or USB cable included. Setting up the scanner to my computer through my network, through the cloud services, and through email was all extremely smooth and very clear options to help configure The printer quality is very good, speed is pretty decent (is toner after all) but even for color printing, it was pretty good! To round up: Pros: Double paper tray with a 500-page capacity total Great scanning capabilities Love the touch screen Wi-Fi/NFC Cons: Toner printer I really like this printer, and I have it setup in the middle of my office, and It really – truly is a WORKFORCE PRO PRINTER! “This is a review for the Epson Workforce Pro WF-4740 All-in-One Printer that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review.

    Great Design but Learning Curve

This is my 1st Epson after having owned several HP Printers over 25 years between my Wife and I as we have two well equipped home offices. I liked the HP's but it seems they have been failing earlier over the past few years so I wanted to give Epson a try. Out of the box the 4740 did not have any documentation at all. Just the machine, cord and ink. I also noticed the plastic casing had both color flaws and a noticeable blemish above the USB port. All of this made me think I had a lemon and took it back for another of the same model. The 2nd Box did contain a starter manual and the software CD. The color flaws remain and most will not notice so I accept that as an Epson quality issue that does not impact performance. For those who do not want to read this entire review I will give my biggest negative takeaway right away before the positives. Perhaps it is because Epson menus are just different than HP and I have a learning curve but I find the interface Menus to be incredibly long to make simple changes. For example it took me 7 screens to change the paper size in one of the trays. 2nd complaint is the settings for paper have so many details that if they do not match exactly with your PC you get an error. After much frustration the Epson help line had to walk me through the screens but even they had to pause and go ask others for instructions. The on-line manual is 318 pages! As a comparison the HP 8720 Manual is 185 pages. Despite all of this I still gave the 4740 4 stars as the POSITIVES are important to me and my needs and are as follows: 1) Two large paper trays mean separate places for photo paper and regular paper that require less filling than most other Home Printers 2) Large 4" interface screen is great for operation 3) attractive modern design but still small enough for most locations 4) Fast print speeds especially for photos 5) Ink cartridges are easier to install than HP due to packaging design 6) Wireless set up is logical and simple. 7) Print quality overall is excellent 8) Epson Support help was timely and helpful

Great printer for home office or small business

I immediately noticed that the printer is encased in plastic with handles on both sides, which makes it easy to remove from the box. The instructions including a CD, A Quick Guide, and color pamphlet are right on top of the printer as you open the box. The set up was pretty easy using the color pamphlet as the instructions were clear and concise. I really like the large flip screen on the printer, the screen is clear, with easy to follow instructions and the screen will let you know if there are any problems with the printer, updates needed etc. I also like that it has a flatbed scanner and a sheet feeder. Sometimes you need to line up a page on a flatbed when a sheet feeder just will not do. The software install went smoothly though it did not start up once CD was loaded. Once I clicked on the Epson icon on the C: Drive, the install started without a problem. I was able to set up wireless and mobile printing pretty quickly. The wireless function was added without me having to do anything, the printer did all the work since I already have a wireless network setup. I was able to print a test page without any problems. Adding the mobile app to my phone from Google play was a cinch. I like being able to print remotely as this adds a level of security printing to my home. This printer has the ability to print from 2 trays in addition to duplex printing; printing on both sides. What a great way to save on the use of paper. Printing was very fast and my test fax came through without any problem. I had to update the software manually by clicking the Epson icon. The software would not update to the latest version without doing that. Unfortunately, I believe the software update crashed my computer. Make sure you have a backup of your system and a recent copy of a boot disk before installing and updating the software. I would like to see in the instructions or quick guide is whether or not you can print in black if one or more of the cartridges are empty. Many other printers will not allow this and this may set Epson ahead of the game if this is allowed. One other thing I would like to see on future versions of this printer and that is to just shut down once I hit the power button instead of having to confirm it on the screen. That makes 2 steps to shut down the printer. Overall, I really like the printer, the ease of setup and ease of use make this an ideal printer for home office or small business. I would recommend this printer for those with home offices or small businesses as I indicated previously. Because the setup is so easy you will be printing in no time. Unpacking was easy. Helpfull handles on the bag allowed easy removal from the box. After removing all of the blue tape I plugged in my ethernet and power cable. After powering on the printer the screen guides you on how to install the ink cartridges. While the printer was charging the cartridges I downloaded the newest software package from epsons web site https://epson.com/Support/Printers/All-In-Ones/WorkForce-Series/Epson-WorkForce-Pro-WF-4740/s/SPT_C11CF75201 . I opted to manually set up a static IP on my network but the software had the option to automatically set it up for me and printed my first test page. After everything was good an automatic firmware update was installed. So far so good except that there are no photo paper samples included. I have been using this printer for my small drafting business and have been printing a large amount of text and black and white line drawings. This printer is faster and more crisp than my old laser. Regarding color I printed a few snaps from my phone using the Epson iPrint android app. Again I am extremely happy with the output. All you have to do is select the photos you want to print pick your options and hit print. The scanner is a scanner and does a great job at what it is supposed to do. I have included two color and B/W images printed and scanned with this printer. All In all I have had no problems with this printer and I am very happy with its output quality and speed. This is my first Epson printer ever. I have owned a few Lexmarks and Konica Minoltas and have used a variety of large office printers for years. Overall, I am very happy with this printer. Here are some pros/cons/would have been nice to haves. Pros: - Cloud services: keep track of your prints, scans, etc. just like your office printer - Print speed is decent - Two trays for paper - Love the touchscreen feature and the adjustability of the screen angle - Love the ability to scan and email it directly to your account - When a device tries to connect, needs permission first time. Good for shared WiFi networks. - USB scanning/printing available - Double sided printing - Ink saving option - No paper jams (yet... fingers crossed)!! - Email printing capabilities! Cons: - Can't find/use secure wireless networks. Maybe it's just me, but it makes private home networks hard to use with this printer if you can only connect to open wireless networks that require no passwords. The good thing though, is that whenever a device tries to connect, it needs permission the first time. So not every device on the network can directly print to it on an open network. - Ink cartridges very hard to install (I ended up putting my entire body weight on it to put down on the cartridge to push them in. It definitely felt as if I was going to break it at one point). - Email hard to setup. Sometimes stuck in setup mode for a very long time. Restarted printer twice Would have been nice to have: - USB and phone jack cables included in the package. Not a big deal since it's a wireless printer, but in case wireless fails and one needs to default back to wires, it would be nice to have these wires included in the package. - Support for 11x17 paper - I understand that it's a compact printer, but would have been nice to print bigger things. - The cartridge opening can only be opened when the scanning bed is closed, which may take a new user a bit of time to figure out. Labels on the printer would have been nice as not everyone goes through the instruction menu in details - The stickers on the cartridge - it definitely felt as if more stickers should have been removed on the cartridge besides the little yellow tabs (especially since the first 10 min of unpacking includes removing what felt like 100 pieces of blue tape from the printer that were put in to prevent the printer from moving during shipping). Good thing I read the instructions first, or else there would have been ink all over the place. It would have been nice for the instructions to go on the cartridge too for people that skip the instruction menu. Not tested: - Fax (no landline setup) - Other types of paper (cardboard/postcard/card/other sizes besides 8.5x11) This is a review for the Epson WorkForce Pro WF-4740 All-in-One Printer that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review.

This is my first Epson printer ever. I have owned alot of HP printers but they failed well within months after purchase. Here are my list of Pros/Cons for this printer: Pros: - Print from my Android Phone/Tablet. - Prints way faster than my Brother printer i currently own. - Has 2 Paper Trays for different printing needs. - Huge Touch screen display that is adjustable. - Love the ability to scan and email it directly to your account - Uses NFC_equipped devices for fast and secure printing. - It can print and scan via usb. - Double sided printing - Ink saving option - It can be setup to print envlopes for easy mailing if you need to use the post office. - Easy setup with my wifi but some people have had issues with this but none for me as of yet - Easy to install the ink and great sized by the way Cons: - Driver for the printer was a bit tricky for windows 10 but i was able to get it installed so gonna count it as a con. - The printer is a lot louder than my other printer. - The touch screen is great but if anything is touching it when you are trying to use it the screen will display "do not use touch pen or anything on the screen". Next is all of the testing I have performed with the printer: - Once i connected it to the wifi i downloaded the new firmware. The setup was stright forward and easy to do. Ive tried wired and wireless as well as NFC all worked great without a hitch. Using my phone with this printer was so easy I did a few pdf and doc files for testing and printed fast and great quality. Next I setup the system to do envelopes and it did those perfect. Ill be using this feature alot in the future. Last thing I tried so far is top loading for scanning some pictures, they looked great and did not jam or go in crooked. These are a few that I have not tested: -Unable to test fax capabilities due to not having a landline. -Have not tested any other paper besides standard white office paper. In conclusion for the short time I have had the Epson WorkForce Pro WF-4740 All-in-One Printer, it has exceeded my expectations and will be a very good additon for my printing needs along side my other printer. Epson is definitely a brand I will consider buying more in the future. This is my second exposure to an Epson printer (first one earlier this year was for home use) and now have this one installed for moderate use in an office setting. Having been an HP user for decades, I am now a full convert to Epson products! Product was well-packed for protection, yet easy to remove and prep for installation with computer and computer. Prompts on the touchscreen window were simple, easy to read, and intuitive. I was up and running/printing in a very short amount of time. [I chose to use a USB connection for this set-up (not included in box) as shared bandwidth here can be slow.] Printing is fast and almost complete before I even reach for the pages. Other side notes: Having two installed paper tray cassettes is a plus. They hold a generous amount of paper (an entire ream between them), and it’s nice to have choices of how to set up. I have both standard size and legal size selected, but could see where one with plain paper and the other tray with letterhead could be helpful for business use. [There’s a little wiggle room in the drawers themselves, but found bringing the paper supply against the outer paper guide does the trick for optimum placement.] Additional pluses include two-sided printing and a smooth/quick auto feeder for documents being copied or scanned. It’s also one of the few printers that is quiet enough that I can still conduct a phone call while it is printing. In addition, the option to scan directly to an email application is a plus and of good quality; takes out the steps of saving the scan and then attaching as a document. Although an inkjet printer, it stands up to its promotion as being “near laser quality.” In my opinion, inkjets have come a long way and the output here is crisp and clear. Photo paper prints have some hue variances, but are mostly impressive unless you’re a professional photographer. The product is remarkable and has lots of extensive and potential applications to cover just about any business, school, or home-use need. No wonder they call it a “WorkForce Pro” and “All-in-One.” Can’t go wrong, so put it through its paces! From the time that I received my Epson WorkForce Pro WF-4740 All-in-One Printer, I was quite impressed. The printer comes with all necessary functions weather used as a at home family printer or an office based one. I used the printer for my home business while going back to school and I have been left asking for nothing more from the printer. My previous printer wasn’t wireless and only had one paper tray, upgrading to my Epson was quite nice with these features. The dual paper trays came in very handy while working on multiple projects at once. The ability to continue working and not have to stop to change out the size and types of papers that I was printing on was a huge time saver. I will say that I do wish that the printer came with a USB cable to connect as a wired printer not just wireless. The only reason I say this is that when I first received my printer I had technical difficulties with my internet provider, which made setting up my printer difficult until my issues were resolved. On that same note, having a wireless printer is incredibly helpful in allowing me to move around my house with my laptop without being tied down to my desk. The quality of the printing was impressive and I have not had any problems technical difficulties thus far. Setting up my printer was quite easy and the instructions were simple, yet clear. I feel that this printer would be a good fit for just about anyone. The size is larger than my last printer but, you have to expect that with a printer that can do everything that you ask. The only function that I have not been able to try out yet is the fax option because of my home set up. However, if it works as well as the ability to print both sides, scan, and switch between the printer trays, I have no doubt I won’t have any complaints there either. The only issue that I found was in setting up the wireless connectivity with my older computer from the cd, I had to try a few times before I was successful. When I connected to my newer computer I set it up manually and had no troubles, but there is a good chance of operator error there. I absolutely love this printer! From the easy unpacking from the box to all of its wonderful capabilities. First off, this printer was so easy to remove from the box. The printer was in a clear plastic bag that had handles, so that when you lifted the bag, the whole printer and its components came out in one try. The setup was very easy. There was a paper included that told you step by step instructions on how to set up the printer. The printer is not small at all, but it is the same size as most all in one's. It has a nice sized touchscreen that shows all the settings to copy, fax, print, and scan. It has 2 trays that hold 500 sheets of paper. I love this so that I don't have to keep reloading paper all the time. It has wifi so that you can hook up your computers, even if they are not in the same room. It prints super fast. It has 4 ink cartridges that were very easy to install. It has a auto document feeder so that you can copy or scan very fast. I have yet to use the fax other than the test fax it does, but I am sure this feature works nicely. The only thing it lacks is that it doesn't show who is calling on the screen which is a feature I had on my previous printer. Other than that, this printer is everything it promises to be. Amazing product and I can't wait to use it to it's full capacity. This is a review for the Epson WorkForce Pro WF-4740 All-in-One Printer that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review.

This is the best, hassle-free all-in-one printer hands-down in my opinion. Upon unpacking this item everything was neatly in place, and I did not have to rummage through the box in order to make sure that all components were accounted for. After removing the foam crating from the top of the Epson WorkForce Pro WF-4740, everything that was needed to get started was right on top, along with the expert packaging of the printer and its accessories. I enjoyed pulling the sturdy plastic bag (with reinforced handles) that contained the printer, straight out of the box, and being able to transfer it directly to my desk for set up. The all-in-one was blemish free with no deficiencies. None of my all-in-one’s that I’ve used before were this easy out of the box to set up, and I’m happy to say that Epson is my top choice from this point forward. The enclosed Quick Guide and Start Here insert were both easy to read and self-explanatory. I especially appreciated the support video links that were listed on the front of the Quick Guide, and were also easily located within Epson’s support website. Configuring the all-in-one on my WiFi network was such a breeze, I couldn’t believe that I was finished. My other all-in-one, that was recently purchased during January 2017, that still has not been set up correctly on WiFi to this day, and I know for a fact that I followed all installation directions to the last detail. I’m happy to say that I can report the Epson WorkForce Pro as having a hassle-free interface, and after following the instructions correctly you’re done. No more back-tracking to figure out what went wrong and where. My other all-in-one doesn’t stand a chance next to the Epson WorkForce Pro. The lightning-fast printing functions of this all-in-one actually makes working fun. I can’t wait to get started with the scanning and faxing functions of this product. It’s great to have an all-in-one solution that is quick, efficient, reliable, and saves time and money. Terrible Printer - Save your money

This was our first and last Epson printer. It constantly jams and printing is off...we think because it consistently picks up two instead of one pages at time to print. It drinks ink...we go through ink so much faster than our last printer (a HP) AND it's more expensive. Called Epson customer service to see what could be done today and they are sending us a new one, but based on the reviews for this printer online we see that this is a constant model issue and not a fluke. I asked if they had addressed these model problems and if not we could get a refund or a different model and I was told that they had to follow protocol and just send us a new printer. Seems like a huge waste of time and fuel to ship us a new faulty printer to replace our old faulty printer. Epson needs to address what is clearly an issue with this model because the "protocol" in place is a huge waste of time that I'm convinced it is just designed to wear us down while providing the illusion of "customer service." If your product doesn't work, you should supply a refund or a solution that actually fixes the problem. If you decide to disregard this post, I strongly suggest also buying they Best Buy insurance policy for this printer. If we had, I'd be using it and not dealing with Epson at all.

For starters let me say I love this product, not only because it is was super easy to setup, but because the size is perfect in my personal opinion, and so far my printing experience has been delightful. Compared to the regular printer I have now (and I know you probably couldn't possibly compare the two) the speed as to which I receive my print job is fantastic! I was a little worried when I was taking the printer out of the box that it was going to be difficult, or to heavy for me, one because I am 9.5 months pregnant, but also because usually printers are never easy to take out of the box. You usually have to do some turning, flipping, and sliding around. This however had a paper showing you exactly how to take the printer out of the box upon opening it. It was fantastic! The bag that it was in actually had handles and you just lifted the printer right out of the box! A+++ Setup up of the actually printer itself was very user friendly and effortless. Did I mention the printer is in my personal opinion once again designed well. Anyhow it comes with a quick start up guide for those of you who like to read, and see pictures, and then you also have the option to just setup following on the onscreen instructions that are directly on the printers LED screen. I have not yet used the mobile printing feature which I am absolutely excited to use, since I am the coupon queen and the majority of the time I use my phone a lot. I also have yet to use the scan feature to scan pictures that I would like to send off to the store to have reprinted. So as soon as I am able to utilize those two features I will definitely do an updated review. So far the unboxing, setup, and initial printing that I have done I can say I am extremely happy with. I never thought I would enjoy or be so excited to setup/use a printer. “This is a review for the Epson WorkForce Pro WF-4740 All-in-One Printer that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review.”

The Epson WorkForce Pro WF-4740 All-in-One Printer (print, scan, fax, copy - $299) is the first non-HP printer I’ve used on a regular basis and I must say that I didn’t know what I was missing all these years. Out of the box, my first impression is that it is a large unit. At approximately 17x13x20”, it is larger than most printers I’ve used, but not so much so that it won’t fit in either a professional or home office. Inside the printer I found a treasure trove of capabilities usually found in higher-priced units. A large 4.3in color touch panel that is very clear, 500 sheet capacity (split between two drawers), duplex printing capability, quick printing (my observations are about 22ppm black and 20ppm color) and the ability to multitask using the dual paper drawers. Set up was easy and didn’t take as long as some previous units I’ve owned. I was able to set up the unit and connect to my home network in about 20min. Epson offers some direct connect, flash drive, “WiFi Direct”, near-field, cloud and networked printing options that make it easy to meet your specific needs and print your files from nearly everywhere. The only nuisance item is the inability to print to 11x17 (which I use sporadically), but that is overshadowed by the outstanding performance of this unit overall. My family and I have been using this unit for a while now, and we’re really impressed with its performance (my wife has had poor wireless connectivity in her office in the past, but this unit has been rock-solid). I’m not a “spec guy” by any means, so I’m not going to quote a lot of numbers (you can get those anywhere, anyway), but as far as I’m concerned, this printer puts out clear, sharp pages and it puts them out fast. If you are looking for something better than the $79 printer you see everywhere, do yourself a favor and check it out. If you're looking at this printer, you're looking for a strong work horse to have in the office or home. I can confidently say you've found a contender, as this printer has brought me up to speed on the impressive capabilities available today. My first impression was upon unboxing where not only was it safely secured, but thoughtfully packaged with convenient handles even on the plastic. The instructions for setup were crystal clear and well written. I set up the printer in the same room as my computer, but not connected physically. While I wanted to test out the wireless capabilities, due to its size it was not appropriate to fit on my desktop like my smaller printer. What I loved most about setup was the touchscreen. I'm used to office printers having terrible touchscreens that require multiple taps and low accuracy. This screen felt like it was responding before I even pressed down, and acccuracy was impressive. The printer hooked up to my Wi-Fi and synced a firmware update with ease. My computer found it instantly, no installion of the included software required for immediate functionality. My print tests were extremely impressive. I tried several online calibration test pages. The first one I printed out in a way scared me, I pressed print and before I could turn and walk two feet it was ready for me. The print speed was astounding, and calibration excellent. I also have to commend the double sided scanning capability, it's a feature I've looked for in many printers as I aim to digitize all my records. Overall, this was a fantastic and capable machine. My only note for reviewers will be to ensure the size is appropriate for your space, this is a commercial-ready printer and is built as such. Since it's advertised that way, I can say this printer exceeded all expectations even for the price. Jams constantly, wastes 50 sheets of paper a week - I've contacted EPSON customer support twice and this thing is still terrible. It is NOT ideal for small business use. If you hardly need to use it, it's probably great. Once it gets down to the last 20 sheets in tray 1, it will print small amounts on every page (or even rip the pages!) and spits them all out. Sometimes it just does that for fun when the tray is full. I've wanted to return but they kept telling me to "try this" and "try that" and then would make me restart my entire system -- which is no where near ideal in the business world... I've tried all their tricks, and now I've missed my return deadline. Mistake of a purchase. Never buying EPSON again. Photo attached -- it prints like that at least 3 times a day. Loved the look and the color prints nicely, when it prints.. But I'm so disappointed, and I honestly never write reviews -- But hopefully this will help others in the future. Home use would be great, if you need it to print and scan a lot, I recommend looking elsewhere. The video showed it being the only printer in a small office -- this one is just for me to use as my personal and it is not ideal by any means.
