Great printer so far. The only downside I have is the imaging when you can. It comes dark in some areas. I will have to update maybe it was the document.

This is my 2nd time ordering this printer. I had problems with the 1st printer, but customer service was easy to work with. I was able to return the 1st printer with no hassle and have the 2nd printer delivered to me without any problems. This printer has so many features that will be a boost to my business.

Wow! I was set on the HP wide format but this went on sale and it is awesome. I read reviews and some had connection issues with Macs but I did not have any problem with wifi connection and our desktop is a 2013 Imac. Very happy with this purchase!

The printer has average print quality but the huge problem is it is designed to make you buy ink again and again and the ink is overpriced. Even if you only print black and white the printer is designed to use small amounts of ink from the colored ink so that they run out quickly and once one of the colored inks runs out the printer stops functioning and won't even allow you to print black and white until you go buy some more colored ink. So again even if you only print black and white you'll have to continually replace the colored inks.

This Epson WF-7840 is a really great printer. It really provides all the features you need in an All-in One device. Setup- Install the software first so you get all the functionality. Connection options: 1. Wireless router 2. Wi-Fi Direct. 3. Ethernet 4. USB You can also download the Epson Smart Panel App to take complete control of your printer. Touch panel – Nice size touch panel makes engaging with the printer very easy. Menu’s are easy to understand and laid out well. Copy- Top document feeder works great to copy multi-page documents. Copy feature works very great from glass or feeder. I love that I can scan oversize documents as well. The layout options are endless as well. Print multiple up, book layout, reduce/enlarge and even remove holes feature. This does more than my fancy copier in the office. Scan- The scanning is incredible. First, you have the option to scan to: Network Folder, Email, Computer, Memory Device, Cloud or WSD (Web Services for Devices) With the Epson software on your computer, you simply put the document or photo on the glass and as soon as you start, the software opens on your computer and shows you the progress. You are then given a choice to edit and then Save, attach to email, send to Google Drive, Send to Drop Box, Send to Evernote, Print or send to One Drive. Fax- Sorry, I was unable to test this feature as I no longer have a landline. Who uses fax anyway, right? Here is where this printer separates itself from the others. You can print up to 13” x 19” paper on this bad boy. Fantastic feature if you need to be printing larger sheets as I do. I had a need to print 11 x 17 spec sheets for work orders and they are 2 sided. This printer fit the bill perfect. Two sided printing in one pass. Love it. Printing black over black takes about 17 seconds. Quality of printed document or photos are great! I also love the power delivery tray. When the unit is power off, or you press a button on the screen, the deliver tray retracts. Then as soon as you send a document, the tray automatically comes out. Nice feature to prevent your documents from landing on the floor when you forget to open the tray all the way. It will even extend further when printing the larger paper size. I have not had this unit long enough to comment on the ink consumption. It comes with standard ink cartridges, but I see Epson offers XL size for colors and even XXL for the black. See Epson’s website for pricing. This is a fairly large printer, but that is kind of what you expect for a printer that can print a 13 x 19 sheet of paper. Overall I really like this printer. Perfect for working from home. If I had one wish, it would be that it came with refillable ink tanks like some of there other printers. ~Reviewers in this invitation-only program are provided products for the purpose of writing honest, unbiased reviews

Large Format Printer That's Easy To Use

Pros: -Fast printing, print up to 13"x19" -Quick, easy setup -Intuitive menu, easy to use, find, and click menu and settings items -Included videos are helpful and show how to do certain things Cons: -Large printer (not in a slim profile) -Ink cartridges are a bit on the costlier side The Epson WorkForce WF 7840 is aimed for the small business market and makes for a great choice. As a multifunction printer with copying, scanning, and fax functions equipped, it has most if not all of what you need. Capable of printing up to 13"x19", you can print anywhere from small flyers and posters to everyday documents. It also offers 2 sided printing, an auto document feeder, 2 paper trays (both with a capacity of holding 250 pages, a total of 500), and wifi direct printing so theres no absolute need for a wireless router at home to print from your phone or computer. I thoroughly enjoyed the look and feel of Epson's printer menu and found it easy to navigate through and quickly find settings and print options. Setup was a breeze; I clicked on the wifi icon on the front page and followed the steps to connect the printer to my router. Once connected to my router, I was able to set it up with my computer and cell phone via the Epson iPrint app. Rated at printing color pages 12 per minute (ppm) and 25ppm in black, I noticed it is quicker in real life situations than other printers I've owned. After printing a poster and some common documents, I found that colors were bright but not overly vivid as advertised by Epson's "DURABrite" technology. Still, compared to other prints from printers of other manufacturers I own, color prints were more vibrant and I liked having the option to print up to 13"x19". Another thing I noticed too was the pages dried a little quicker compared to other printers. Something to keep in mind when printing though is using greater quality paper to achieve better results (if looking to make higher quality posters or flyers, for example). One cool thing about the printer also is how when printing, the print tray that keeps papers from falling slides out on its own! Once its done printing after a few minutes, it slides back into the printer. Pretty neat! Ink cartridges are relatively expensive; this printer has a total of 4 cartridges (black, cyan, magenta, yellow). The standard cartridge for the black ink lasts approximately 350 pages and for color pages about 300 pages each. Also, the high yield (XL) black ink cartridges last about 1100 pages and for XL color cartridges 1100 pages as well. With so many printers and printing brands to choose from, it can be daunting trying to choose the best printer to fit your needs. I found Epson's ease of use to be one of the best and for this I can recommend getting this printer if you're interested in printing in larger formats.

    Big Printer, Bigger Prints

A wise IT professional once told me, “there’s nothing more expensive than a cheap printer.” I should have heeded this advice three printers ago, as I’d grown accustomed to questionable print quality, grainy scanning, and ink cartridges that always dried up when I needed them most. After sending the third strike to its retirement dumpster, I chose to go upmarket. The Epson WF-7840 may surprise with a high MSRP relative to lower-cost options on display at Best Buy, but this kitchen sink of an all-in-one print, scan, and copy solution brings print-shop quality and features to your home or small business. I would like to thank comic artist Abigail Starling, creator of the artwork featured in this review, for giving permission to reprint one of her pieces for use in testing and review. Please visit her website to see more of her work. https://abigailstarling.com/ - Unboxing and Setup It’s difficult to convey how large this printer is. The box seemed oversized at first glance but this 53-pound, 20x17x14-inch printer is in a league of its own. The printer is packaged in a plastic bag with grab handles on both ends, with two persons recommended to remove from the box. I managed it alone but I would advise against this if possible as the unit has a high center of gravity, making it difficult to keep stable when shuffling it around. Though the printer does not include a full manual, only a quickstart guide, the WF-7840’s built-in touchscreen display walks you through setup and initialization on first powerup with graphics illustrating each step. Once complete, a companion app available from Epson’s website (also included on a driver CD in the box) attempts to automatically detect the printer on your WiFi network, but the printer’s setup does not include connecting to WiFi - I had to manually connect in the configuration menu. Once online, Epson’s software handles configuration and adds the WF-7840 to your available printers. You can also connect directly via IP address or network discovery. Of note, Epson does not include a USB cable in the box, so you will need to source one if you plan to use wired printing. Additionally, the 812 series ink cartridges included are only “starter” tanks with limited amounts of ink, though after a couple ink-heavy, large format prints the printer reported high levels of ink remaining. Your mileage will vary greatly with your print volume and quality settings. - Loading & Printing Having two internal trays and a rear feed means three different types of paper can be loaded simultaneously, with both trays offering a 250-sheet capacity of paper up to 11x17-inch (Tabloid) size. After loading, the touchscreen allows you to select the size and type of paper being loaded, with a manual option to enter specific sizes if it’s not a standard one. Favorites can be saved for common loads to expedite this step, and the configuration menu is always available through a touch of the “Paper Setting” button on the front panel. Paper of the maximum print size of 13x19-inch (A3+) must be fed from the rear tray, which has a smaller capacity of about 25 sheets. It is possible to feed larger formats through the rear tray but the sheets must be no wider than 13 inches. When printing, the WF-7840 will auto-select the most appropriate paper source from the loaded options. This can be overridden in the print dialog to specify a tray, but information on the currently-loaded paper sizes and types isn’t sent back to the computer so you’ll need to know what’s available or have the printer take its best guess. When a job starts, the WF-7840’s motorized output tray extends to hold your prints and a tray-retract button lights up on the front panel to rescind the tray; I quite enjoyed this quality-of-life feature. In action, the WF-7840 is remarkably quiet (by printer standards) and very fast. Black and white Letter size prints at draft quality can be shot out at a rate of 26 pages per minute, but even on Normal I was seeing about 10 sheets per minute which is still quite good. Duplexing is available for quick and convenient two-sided printing without needing to re-feed the paper - a feature that I had not realized I wanted in a printer for my home office until I used it for the first time. The touchscreen lists job statuses for all the documents in queue, and the firmware can hold and release jobs on user request under “Confidential Jobs” which is handy for small businesses that will be using this as a shared all-in-one printer. You can also print documents from a USB disk using the port on the front of the printer, adding another print option for those who wish to avoid sending their resume to the printer via the office airwaves. - Wide Format Printing & Print Quality The main draw to the WF-7840 over Epson’s other all-in-one offerings is its ability to print wide-format prints. With a maximum size of 13x19, wide format printing offers considerable flexibility in what you are able to create, with presentation paper output being a major selling point for small businesses. Professional artists may also find use from wide format printing for proofs or even saleable prints - 11x17 and 12x18 are common sizes for prints sold in the “Artist Alley” at pop-culture expos and fan conventions. My test prints for this review were made on 11x17-inch copy paper and 13x19-inch premium matte paper. In a word, the WF-7840’s print quality is stunning. Epson integrates their new “PrecisionCore” print technology here, which prints up to 40 million dots per second with what the company claims delivers professional-grade precision through an advanced print head control unit. The results spoke for themselves - black-and-white printing is as sharp as can be, but what blew me away was printing color images. Though print quality will usually vary based on the paper type used, my test prints came out looking great even on typical office copy paper (20lb, bright white) using “Normal” print quality from a Windows system print dialog. Colors are reasonably bright, resolution is high, and the print area can fill the entire sheet for borderless printing. Ink is not overused, so the sheet dries quickly without the odd sheen or risk of smearing on large areas of black ink. Copy paper will still furl at the corners on such borderless prints, but that’s more a limitation of the medium. I would have been plenty satisfied just from that, but using higher-grade premium matte paper with “High” print quality resulted in one of the richest, sharpest, most vibrant prints I have seen. Not just within the context of personal printers, either - the print output for my test image exceeds that of a professional semigloss print of the same image I used as a reference point. Bold contrasts and subtle gradients are recreated with immaculate clarity. Up close I’m hard-pressed to spot anything beyond the smallest, most insignificant imperfections that disappear from view just a few inches away from the eye. Though I’m sure this print mode burns through Epson 812 ink at an aggressive pace, I would gladly skip the print shop for small batches of prints. Though I can’t convey print quality through photos, I’ve attached direct comparisons to show the difference between the WF-7840’s prints and the professional print of the same image. The professional print was framed and displayed on my wall, but the high quality matte print may be what goes into the frame before I hang it back up.. - Scanning and Faxing A printer this big means, naturally, it’s going to have a big scanner. The scanner on the WF-7840 is huge, allowing for large size copies and detailed scans at impressive resolutions. Both the flatbed and the auto document feeder (ADF) are capable of handling up to 11x17 inputs, and the ADF is a full duplex type so it can read both sides of input sheets. The scan quality is very good, capturing detail and color very accurately, though the output format when scanning to memory cards seemed limited to 600dpi JPG or PDF documents. Full-resolution (1200dpi) scanning eluded me, but this is a niche feature that I’m sure could be located within the printer’s online documentation. Faxing is also supported for the businesses and clients that still rely on this method of communication. The ADF duplexer is supported when sending a fax, though I would highly recommend only faxing from one-sided prints to avoid missing pages on the receiving end. An address book stores common fax numbers and can identify the sender of your inbound faxes. You can also fax PDF documents and images stored on a USB disk from the front panel, bridging the gap from new-school tech to old-school users. - Value & Bottom Line As with all printers, you’ll be locked into using the brand’s own ink cartridges or tanks for the best printing results. Epson competes favorably against competing brands here, as the 812 and 812XL tanks are sold by single color (C/M/Y/Black), with an XXL size black tank available for thousands of sheets. There is also a maintenance cartridge onboard, which is a tank designed to capture runoff from routine ink head maintenance, that will need to be replaced periodically. Inkjets may not be as cost-efficient as laser printers if you print mostly black-and-white pages, but with a modest print volume Epson presents reasonable costs for home users and small businesses alike. The WorkForce WF-7840 is one of the most feature-laden all-in-one print and copy devices I’ve encountered, offering features usually only found on commercial-grade printers that need their own corner of a room and a service plan to operate. With exceptional print quality, versatile outputs, wide format scanning, and a bevy of features useful to small workgroups, this all-in-one really does it all and does it all very well. If you’re looking to cut most of the routine trips to the copy center out of your day, the Epson WorkForce WF-7840 comes highly recommended!

I have had the opportunity to use and own various Printers designed for home office and small businesses over the last few years, but none of them have been as fully featured as the Epson Workforce series. The unit comes packaged well and includes a full set of four ink cartridges (B, C, M, Y), which are a bit larger than conventional small printers. There is now USB or Phone Cord included, so keep that in mind if you are requiring them for your installation if not using wirelessly. The setup process is like many and requires the use of the touch screen on the printer itself. It walks you through selecting your country, language, and basic printer settings. Keep in mind you will need to set aside a few minutes (approx. 10) for the setup to fully complete. The printer begins with a quick check of the scanner bed, and a run through of testing the print heads without the ink installed. If you are unsure how to load paper, or the ink, the touch screen will even provide you a quick walk through of installing them. The printer is about the size of most business class home printers, has two paper trays, and manual feed tray in the rear that pulls out, a scan bed, and a scan feeder. The benefit of this scanner printer is it allows scanning of two-sided documents, which is a great feature for those scanning two sided documents. Set up of the two-sided scan can be done using the intuitive menu options displayed on the touch screen when scanning is selected. You can even scan to a network drive, if you have a NAS storage solution on your network, which I am lucky enough to have. Once you have installed the ink and confirmed the paper size settings for both feed trays, you can then go through the settings menus to setup “Epson Connect” for cloud-based settings. If you have never had an Epson Connect account before, you will need to specify an email address and password, or log in using the printed QR page from the printer. Keep in mind, the paper printed with the authentication code is only good for 1 hour. This provides you plenty of time to get logged into your email account and setup the appropriate Epson connect account. Otherwise, you will just log in to your existing Epson account to being setup using a web portal. I found adding Dropbox and Google Drive accounts were relatively easy, but if you’re not sure how to do this or have an IT team / IT minded friend available to you, feel free to get them involved in the setup process. Epson connect had most of the major cloud-based services available, including Google Drive, Dropox, OneDrive, Box, Evernote, and even email addresses for scan to emails. I was able to complete the Epson Connect process using my iPhone with Safari, so there is not a ton of effort required outside of knowing your username/password for the services added. Scan functions work incredibly well, with single side scans at 300 dpi finishing in about 5 seconds, and two sided scans (using the feed tray on top) taking about 5 seconds per side (12 seconds total if including the page loading). The upload to cloud services was QUICK! I mean super quick! By the time it was done scanning the entire set of pages, it was almost immediately available on the service. In the case of Dropbox, I found the scan pages within about 2 seconds of finishing the scan. I have a feeling it’s uploaded simultaneously when scanning, compared to other manufacturers that don’t start until the scans are complete. I found this incredibly useful for business documents, allowing me to scan, collect my documents, and have them available once I got back to my home office desk. It was the same with Google Drive and with my internal network-based scans; albeit limited by your own network speeds. Either way, this was much more convenient than others in the same space, and I can’t express how awesome it was to see immediate results. Printing was just as great, with most pages printing in mere seconds, and higher quality prints being done in record time as well. I do want to point out a great feature not found on other office printers, is the tray automatically comes out when you print. That’s right, you no longer have to worry about having the collecting tray pulled out, the printer just rolls it out on its own if it’s pushed in. This is great for offices with multiple users and doesn’t require you having to walk to the printer to pull the tray out. The printed documents will simply be waiting for you, saving you a walk to wait for the prints to complete. If you’ve setup the Epson Connect service, you can also send emails to an assigned email address, which can be modified online, to print remotely. You can even print from the cloud directly to the printer, which does require set up of an authentication password. I found print from cloud to be just as quick and is only limited by the bandwidth available to you from your hotspot or network connection remotely. The fax machine gets just as many points as the rest of the functions on the device, with scanning happening quickly, while the unit dialed out and began uploading. Scan quality on the other end is dependent on the destination printer, but with a quick send to my Dr’s office, I can confirm the quality was great! The pages looked like normal copied pages, which work well for those receiving faxed electronically. Scan to email was also very quick! Once you have assigned a recipient email address, the scan begins and is almost immediately received. I tested this using my own personal email address, and the quality was as expected in a PDF file. There is so much I can say about this printer, such as the two feed trays holding a ton of paper, the feed trays allowing for prints to longer page sizes, and I would barely scrape the surface! If you have the appropriate Epson software installed, you gain even more options for print settings for your personal needs. Overall, this is an EASY recommendation to make for small businesses or home offices. Given the newer focus on work from home, this will add just as much functionality as your office printer, with the convenience of home access!

I’ve had my old Epson WorkForce WF-3530 printer for more than 5 years now and have been happy with it, but my old printer lacked a touch screen and other modern features. This printer has an easier-to-use touchscreen and is able to use larger printer paper than legal. This printer is a beast at a height of 13.75”, width of 20.25”, and depth of 17.75.” These measurements are with the printer tray closed (otherwise, add another 8.5”), so make sure you have enough space to accommodate it. The set up was pretty easy to figure out and went smoothly. The only issue I had was finding the menu where to update the firmware. The printer is advanced enough to detect a new firmware version and alert the user, but only stated it was in setting and not where to find it. I am a little puzzled why Epson would not make it more user-friendly and just allow the user to tap update on the touchscreen. As for options, this printer has it all. I won’t bore you with all the functions since it is in the product’s features, but I am amazed that this printer works with Alexa. Also, I am pleased that the printer automatically extends the printer tray so the prints don’t end up on the floor, if you forgot to extend it. The main thing to consider when purchasing this printer is the cost of the ink. I have read many articles about how Epson and other printer companies make their money on selling ink and will update their firmware to not allow 3rd party ink cartridges to work. Even if you find a company that has a workaround, the cartridges may be worthless after an update. I would highly recommend this printer. It has so many features, I cannot think of any it’s missing. The printer has so far worked flawlessly, and I am very happy with it.

DAY 2 of use... spring in the back paper feeder broke and is tearing paper up as it goes through the feed. I maybe printed 40 pages so far USING PLAIN PAPER!! What a waste of money.

This printer is impressive in its ability to be both a high preforming business printer and a versatile home office printer. While the printer itself is impressively compact, considering its entire capabilities, it is very stout in build – especially compared to typical household printers. Overall, the full features of this printer make up for the larger size of it, and I think most people would agree. Initial set up of the printer was a bit tedious. It took a little over an hour to do so. The provided instructions are a bit scarce, but the printer software walks you through everything. (The biggest hiccup I had was when looking up the software to download on my computer, the website took a couple minutes to load.) The paper cassettes (trays) are designed to hold multiple sizes of paper, including stationary prints and photo prints. Between the two cassettes, the printer holds a full package of paper. A “lid” is also included with the lower cassette, for when the tray extends past the face of the printer in order to hold wide format or 11x17” paper. One of my favorite features with this printer is the automatic, paper catch above the top cassette. This keep the prints from falling to the ground, and automatically slides out when something is printed. The size of the touch screen is great, and I found its touch accuracy and responsiveness to be excellent. The ability to tilt the screen upward is very convenient as well. The printer also has one USB port to allow for printing directly off flash drives. This, combined with the generous touchscreen, makes for an easy way to print without direct access to a computer. Another nice feature of this printer is the wireless capabilities, which allows for the printer to essentially be a network printer for all your computers and app enabled devices. The Epson printer app is pretty cool and comes with a handful of printing features. It lets you print photos and documents directly off your phone, and even lets you send scans to your phone (or app enabled device). I did test out printing pictures from my phone and found it to be a very straightforward process with very satisfactory results. As for regular printing, the printer excels in speed and quality of the printed document. The wide format printing is an excellent feature for those who have a need to make large prints of drawings or pictures. I tested this feature by printing a dimensional engineering print for work. The speed at which it printed at was very fast, but it did grab and print upon multiple sheets of paper. I suspect that this occurred because I was low on 11x17” paper, as I did not have this problem when printing from the other tray, which was well stocked with paper. Scanning documents is a quick and seamless process as well. I found the quality of the scans to be better than the high capacity copy machines I use at work, and the software allows for improvements to be made if necessary. (I did not have to make any adjustments to the scans I made.) Last, it is important to point out the high quality of the Durabrite ink used with this printer. This ink is pigment based, and therefore is water-resistant on regular, matte, and glossy paper. (I tested its water-resistance on something I printed, and it proved to be the real deal.) Overall, this is a very impressive performing business printer with a compact design. My only small complaints with this printer is that I felt that the electrical cord could be longer (but a power strip should provide enough extension to make it work in most spaces), and it makes a bit of a squealing noise when printing. Other than that, this printer excelled at every task I tested it with. The speed and quality of this printer is excellent, and I would recommend making the small investment if using it for a business or heavy printing household. CONS: short electrical cord, has a squeak to the printer when printing, may grab multiple pages when paper is low PROS: extremely versatile printer, prints high quality and very quickly, scans quickly, software and app are both easy to navigate, prints on a wide format, wireless, able to print directly off a flash drive, able to print from any device with the Epson printer app installed, water-resistant ink on all paper types (including photo paper), and much more

“I’ve been using the Epson WorkForce Pro WF-7840 for several months now, and I couldn’t be more impressed. It’s become the workhorse of my home office—delivering excellent print quality and surprisingly smooth scanning with its wide-format and auto-duplex features. The dual paper trays and the ease of accessing paper jams and ink make it super user-friendly. Although it’s quite large and takes up considerable space, the productivity it offers more than makes up for it. Setup was a breeze, and I love how fast it prints once it starts—especially for everyday text documents. It does sip through ink rather quickly, and the first print can take a moment, but the overall value, versatility, and solid design definitely make it worth it.”

I've always been an HP person. Never had any issues. I would have gotten another HP printer, but every model that I wanted was out of stock and has been out of stock for a long while. I decided to give this Epson a shot because it had all the features I wanted, and it was in stock. Here is my impression: • Set up was very easy. After removing the packing materials, I downloaded the software from Epson’s website, and installation was completed within 5 minutes. Took another couple of minutes to load the ink and load the paper. Everything went perfectly • I did some test prints. Print speed was good to very good. Print quality was very good. Machine was relatively quiet compared to the other HP inkjets I have owned. • I did some test scans. Scanning was important to me. This has a 11x17 scanning bed, which was one of my criteria (and surprisingly hard to find, since most inkjet printers seem to have a letter sized scanning bed). It also does single pass dual sided scanning, which was another one of my criteria (and also surprisingly hard to find). Scanning was fast and accurate. The built-in scanning software is highly configurable and very intuitive • Having 2 paper trays is nice. I was able to load up one tray with letter sized paper and the other tray with legal sized paper. • Printer is large. Definitely not a compact printer, but reasonably sized as far as I’m concerned. Does not seem huge, but it is replacing an HP Officejet Pro 8600 which is also a large printer, so I am used to larger printers. • Have not tried to print photos or envelopes, so I can’t comment on those. • I’ve only had the printer 1 day, so I can’t comment on long term quality Also can’t comment on ink usage yet. That is probably my biggest concern because some reviewers have said it’s an ink hog. We’ll see. Overall, I highly recommend this printer.
