With my last new vehicle I ended up cutting the cord to get it out and decided to purchase a new one. It's a must have if you want to be able to mute your detector and have it mounted up high. Not having to reach up to mute is definitely worth the money to me. I don't pay much attention to the lights since I typically have the detector volume on but that's also a nice feature if you need it. Installation can be a little challenging if you've never done it, but it's basically just finding the easiest way to run the cord through the trim.
