Premium Quality Detector, APP not so great all

This is the first Radar Detector I have ever finally ever owned as my father back then when I was young has used radar detectors and I always found them interesting and neat to have my own 30 years later which this detector is the king compared to my dad's old ones from back in the old days. Up on receiving the detector and opening the box, I was greeted with a nice premium look packaging, the contents included: - A zipper case that kept the detector nice and secure, the USB Smartcord and a little card slot (like a business card) handy for direct Escort support information - Window Mount with a very strong magnetic to keep the Detector secure to the mount - A quick start guide - Register your product Today card - Congratulations card The Pros: The Zipper case is very nice, its great to have to stow away the detector when parked and keep from prying eyes seeing it in the vehicle and wanting to steal it, as mentioned above, the Window Mount is really strong and well made and now the Detector while I have used it for 6 days now, I am very impressed with its features, the dual antenna's make it easy to pick up the bands and lasers/bands detected within at least 500 to 1,000 ft radius proximately of your location while driving, giving the driver a heads up ahead of time, the false alert filtering that learns your route and rejects repeated false alert locations (Really nice to have!!) and the directional light up arrows that gives a 360 degree awareness letting the driver know where to pay attention on the direction to look at. The USB Smart cord has a USB port on top of the plug, making it easy to plug in a charging cord to charge your phone or whichever also. The Cons: The Biggest negative of this is the app to use with this detector. While I had no trouble setting it up and connecting to it, the app has many many issues/bugs/crashes. Up on reviewing all the alerts on each of my trips, when tapping on the map or tapping on Police Spotted, either the tap inputs are not registering or the app crashes immediately and it re-produced each single time, I have uninstalled/reinstalled the app and still the same results. While driving, the detector never reported speed limits on the detector for my city (Owensboro, KY which is a major urban city, one of the top 10 populated cities in Kentucky) in the first few days of using the app Bluetooth to the detector, however it randomly reported a speed limit of 45 while in the background, it clearly showed "30mph speed limit" Then after exiting off the street onto another street with a different speed limit, the speed limit showed two dashes -- for the remainder of the trip. Next day, I took the detector and used it in my work van where I drive routes out into the county on a very heavy travelled well known Highway (Hwy 431) for about 30 minutes and half way into my drive, 10-15 minutes on this Highway, it finally showed the speed limit but it was showing "56" on the detector instead of "55" for a speed limit which that's the posted limit. Up on coming back into the city, I thought maybe the speed limit not showing up was resolved as it was showing the speed limit on the city streets but it was adding a additional 1mph to each speed limit on the streets, 36MPH, instead of the posted 35MPH Speed limit, 31, instead of 30mph. But after ending my trip, and using it a hour later, unfortunately the speed limits were not being shown again and it had a "--" during my trip home with the app open and running. (See images, sorry if some are not clear as the camera has a hard time picking up the screen really good due to the display that is being used on the detector) Another issue is, unfortunately, I never was able to see crowdsourced warnings, probably due to the citizens in my area possibly not using this feature much, if at all so I cannot comment on this unfortunately which would of been great to see it used by many. Now to name another issue, while using the app paired to the radar detector, BE WARNED, the app is a Power/Resource/Battery Hog!!! I have never seen a app deplete a battery from fully charged in the morning around 6am to 15 to 20% by 12pm (noon). Before using the app, I would listen to online radio streaming Bluetooth to my vehicle for 3-6 hours and my battery by noon would be only depleted to 75 to 80%, upon checking the battery usage on my phone, it was surprising to see the app being the culprit. To sum this up, while the Detector is wonderfully built with a premium build quality and excellent features if I was just basing the review on the detector it self, I would be giving it a 5 because of how great it does, but having to use the app with it and all the issues with the app, im giving it a 3. Upon reviewing the reviews on the Google Play store for the app "Drive Smarter" it was appalling to see the majority of over 500 reviews with 1 star reviews having all different types of troubles with the app, with a average rating of 1.3 from all the reviews, and the 1 star ratings seem to stem back at least the last 2 years with still problems and the developers are aware as they comment back to most of the reviews but I feel like they need to ditch the app and start from scratch and develop a new app and put it through rigorous testing with quality assurance, that aside.... I would definitely recommend the detector HOWEVER.... I would definitely not recommend using the app, in my opinion, its useless, prepare for crashes/bugs/tapping on items may or may not work or useless and just using up your phones resources and deplete your phones battery quick. The radar detector works just as great, if not better without the app.

Mk II is even better with worthwhile improvements

On its own right, this detector is a great balance of sensitivity, road manners and personalization. For those with an original (non-Mk II) model like the Max 360, it has numerous internal and external improvements that make it a worthwhile upgrade. The Max 360 Mk II is now on-par with the Max 360c MK II - just without WiFi. Pros: * Excellent detection range/sensitivity. * Automatic location-based muting. * Direction indication of alerts (in front, from behind, to the left or right). * Convenient and secure mounting with easy removal. * Compatible with a long history of Escort cords and mounts. * Bluetooth connectivity to a useful phone app. * App provides crowdsourced warnings. * Micro USB cable connection to Mac/PC app for firmware and database updates. * Improved venting for better running in hot cars. Cons: * Buttons on top are not easy to navigate blindly if the detector is installed high up on a windshield. * USB-C would be preferred over Micro USB. I’ve been driving with Escort radar detectors for a long time and periodically upgrade to new models when there are reasons to do so. In general, I really enjoy their balance between sensitivity/range and road manners in that they seem to give a long-distance warnings for “real” threats while not being annoyingly noisy for anything only mildly suspicious, with the ability to vary this to your preference. My prior model before this one was the Max 360c which was great, but it was replaced with the Max 360c Mk II a while ago. This new one has all new “guts” of the 360c Mk II which really amp up how well it works. The Max 360c was a radical upgrade over the original Max 360, and this Max 360 Mk II is just as radical an upgrade over the original Max 360 and even the Max 360c. It’s like they took the step-up Max 360c Mk II and only removed the WiFi which is really only useful if your car has a WiFi hotspot which mine doesn’t. Since I already had an Escort Max 360c installed and this one is compatible with the mounts and power cord, it was a simple swap of the detector itself. If you don’t have an older compatible model like I did, the mount in the box suctions to your windshield and has an angle adjustment to get the detector level. The provided cord connects to the detector with a telephone-style plug so it won’t disconnect accidentally. The other end plugs into a standard 12v outlet (aka the cigarette lighter socket) but you can purchase other cord options. The provided cord has a nice remote control feature as well with a warning light and a Mute button. If your power socket is easier to reach than the top of the detector, you can see and mute alerts from there if you want. You can even turn off the main unit’s display and have all visual alerts happen at the remote. I bought the optional direct-wire cord to hard-wire the detector into my car’s fusebox since my car’s only 12V socket is in the trunk. After mounting the detector on your windshield with the provided suction cup mount and plugging in the power cord, just tap the power button and you’re ready to go. The default settings are great for most people but can be changed in the app later if you want. My favorite part of this detector series is that as you drive and the detector alerts, you can tell the detector to ignore that particular signal the next time you’re nearby. It will use the GPS location and the specific frequency of the signal to determine what to ignore next time. You can also use the Mark button while the alert is going off to store a particular location or condition like a patrol car that isn’t using radar. Now that it’s set up and working, you can take advantage of the App and the detector’s Bluetooth connectivity to the phone. Install the free app and pair your detector via Bluetooth to the phone. Now the app and the detector work together for more control and features. Even though you can change all settings using the detector’s screen and the buttons on the top of the detector, the app makes this a lot easier. Another huge advantage of the app is that you can share your threat markings with other drivers anonymously, and see all shared threats from other drivers. These crowdsourced warnings supplement the detector’s already great sensing capability. The app also has a map view showing your proximity to all nearby shared threats so you can best prepare or adjust your route. While the app is not required to use this detector, it does add a lot of convenience and value. When I park in unknown areas, I like to take down my detector and stow it in my glovebox to keep it out of sight. Removal of the detector is super easy with the magnetic mount and the easy to find clip on the cord. Most products these days get firmware updates to improve or extend their functionality. This detector is no different. There are free Mac and PC apps for updating the firmware and the built-in threat database of the detector. When you are notified of an update by email or by browsing the support web site, you simply remove the detector from your car and plug it in to your Mac or PC with a Micro USB cable. That connection will power the detector and connect it to the app on your computer for updates. A few minutes later, unplug it from your computer and put it back in your car. The “c” version of this detector has built-in WiFi to do all of that directly when connected to your home WiFi or your car’s WiFi hotspot, but it’s not something you’ll need to do often so I don’t miss having that capability in this model. Overall, I’ve been really impressed with the performance improvements in this Max 360 Mk II detector. It seems to start up faster than my pro Max 360c, the app connects quickly and reliably, and most importantly, it has improved sensitivity and range without making any additional false alerts. Whether you’re upgrading from a prior Escort model or getting your first one, you won’t be disappointed in how well this detector works!

Good detector with a learning curve

So i haven't had a radar detector in some time. Basically the late 90's!! I abandoned it due to price and so many false alerts. So when i got the opportunity to try again i took it! Install installation is quite easy - connect the mount to the center glass and plug in the RJ11 phone style adaptor and plug into the dash. The plug does supply a USB-A for your phone at 2.4A so no big change there. On the plug is a built in red/green led and mute button. I do really like the mount - its magnetic to the detector and is easy to take the detector down and store and even easier to put back up! Be advised if you have a dash cam - you may need an adaptor. I choose to wire into my rear view mirror with a 3rd party adaptor. Once you get installed you download the app - this has several setup options and is easier than the small device screen APP the app helps setup and connects via bluetooth. I kinda have a problem with this -as my vehicle is the priority. So i felt i was missing out on a few features during normal operations I did have to plug the detector into my PC for update as well - no big deal and only took a few min Operations- I live in a bigger city and did again experience a ton of alarms going off due to what I presume are motion doors and other signals - a mode switch does seem to help minimize this a small bit. But i'm not worred about speeding in town. Off the to highway I just completed a 3 state drive on the interstate with mode in highway still had a few WTF moments where the device would just ping out and nothing in sight. I also got pinged LASER but i saw the car before the device triggered. I guess i need a little bit longer with the device to learn its behavior - but I did travel about 350 miles with no ticket and felt fairly confident for the duration of the trip

Usually a MKII version fixes most issues?

I’ll start by saying that I did not own the first version of this radar detector. As the title states, one would think most bugs would be fixed before releasing a MKII version of any product into the consumer market. As with most new electronic products, there are certainly some positives, and also some negatives to this radar detector. Let’s start with being positive. I love how this attaches to the window with the quick release suction cup. You don’t need to remove the suction cup when hiding the detector because it uses a pretty strong magnet to attach the radar to the mount. This makes it extremely quick and easy to remove the radar and put it in your console or glove box. I leave my power cable attached and just set it in the center console when I leave the car. The radar also turns on automatically when you start your car so it’s ready to go with minimal fuss. I also really like the design and how it looks. It feels solid and well built and actually looks pretty cool. The buttons are also really easy to memorize and use quickly while driving. The front screen and directional arrows are bright (adjustable) and easy to see which direction the radar is coming from and what band is alerting you the time. You can also adjust to your preferred color scheme in the settings. The coiled cable for power feels great as well and even has an extra USB port so you can charge your phone or other devices. Nice touch! Lastly, the unit even tells you when you are coming up to a photo enforced radar traffic light. This seems like it would be obvious for a radar detector to do, but I was nonetheless surprised when it happened. All of that said, I feel like the negatives outweigh the positives by a little bit. I get many false X and K band alerts while driving around. Granted I leave it in the AUTO mode pretty much all of the time, unless I am on the highway for hours. It is by no means horrible and frequent. The alert volume can easily be adjusted and the sound (beep) for alerts doesn’t bother me. In the short time I have tested this out, I have yet to pass an officer that is obviously shooting radar, so I can’t honestly comment on how quick it sees a radar gun pointing back into traffic. The Drive Smarter app can be a good help if you are using a dash cam. If you are using the Escort 360 MAX MKII alone, there is simply no need to create an account and use this app. If anything you want to be using LESS apps while driving. If you have a compatible dash cam, you can view your clips in the app, if you don’t have a camera, you can already view all alerts, mark areas, and make easy adjustments from the 360 MAX itself. One other thing I noticed, is that when I used the drive smarter app map, the posted speed limit at the top left corner of the map screen was set to 50 MPH on my personal 25 MPH neighborhood street right by my house. That made me drive around my neighborhood a little to see if it did that on other slow streets, but it went right back to 25 MPH as soon as I turned off of my street. Yikes! I guess that means don’t trust the posted speed limit to be correct on the map of the drive smarter app. I’ll end by talking about the initial setup out of the box. Lot’s of hiccups. I initially tried to load the “Detector Tools” that are needed to update the firmware onto my iMac, but it failed to see the detector when connected so I luckily had a Windows laptop and I finally got it to initialize correctly. That was after I received a prompt to update the software from within the software that I just downloaded and installed. An additional three drivers as well? Talk about perplexing. Once I figured out how to get power to the unit in my office (to update) and Detector Tools was connected, I had the option to click on a button and begin the update process. After all of the changing computers and loading software and drivers, I finally clicked on the button to update and it prompted me with the message that I was already up to date. All in all, there are many hassles with this package if you dig into the software side of it. If you only update the firmware when needed and use this in your vehicle all by itself, it is a pretty good unit with some problems as mentioned.

Thanks for letting us know about the issues you had with Detector Tools, we will look into this. Note that when updating you should only connect a USB cable to the detector, not the power cord.
Enabling K Notch in the preferences menu will reduce K band false alerts from certain vehicles. I also find that AutoLoK is a good SEN mode for reducing K band false alerts. Note that stationary X and K band false alerts will be learned and stored after repeated passes by them (with AutoLearn enabled, the default setting). It typically takes 3 passes then you will see a "Stored" message on the detector. Subsequent passes will display as grey and without alert audio.

PROS: Windshield hook attaches easily and has magnet for radar for easy removal/attachment Display is bright, easy to read directional radar detections Audio alerts are loud, easily heard Able to detect from behind and in front with wide angel ranges Power plug allows for an additional USB connected device to charge/use Has K, Ka, X, Laser, POP, TSR and Multa CD/CT Has Oscillation Protection, TSR and Multa (These are very important for Radars) CONS: Horrible out of box settings, Requires tons of customization App required to always be running to capture alerts, notifications, etc. App smart drive mode doesn't turn off after quitting app, had to hard stop it Always has to be plugged in, no battery, short cable length Speed limit indicators/trackers are always off I was in the market for a radar scanner to try out and decided to try this one as it was within my price range. Right out of the box it became obvious I would need to study/research all aspects of this device as the material that comes packaged with it is really no help. Out of the box, it directs you to a phone app and setup the link was easy enough. The latch to the windshield works great and I really love the magnetic part for quick remove/attach of the radar. The power cable is custom RJ-11 connector so be sure to never loose it. Its short length makes it bulky right in the middle of your view when driving. I do like it provides a USB connection into the plug for those like me who only has 1 outlet. The required setup/customization cannot be expressed enough with this radar. Right out of the box I would receive false positives while driving. The first few days it was a mess, picking up alerts from buildings, road pop transmitters, etc and missing police vehicles that were literally siting on shoulder tagging cars. Each night I would read up on each radar band, setting trying different combinations. Until finally about 5 days in I found the best settings for my environment. Now it works perfectly spotting not only the necessary bands but also detects POP, TSA and Multa. (If you dont know what those are, its a must nowadays) I spent a week total of testing, in day/night, city/highway, and 1 hour up to 4 hour increments. There is a ton of customization that is not only required but a must to make this a worthwhile product. Other customization settings like the Speed MPG indicator or the GPS tracking are nice but dont seem to properly work. I was in an area that has a speed limit of 25, yet it shows speed limit of 28. I was driving at 22MPG yet the radar was showing I was going 26MPG. In the end I just disabled those features as they were annoying. The requirement of always needing to run the app on your phone is not great. Even if you set it to just run in the background it will drain your phone. The app is a must to understand the alerts being received, to customize the radar settings and keep record of those speed traps. In the end I had to have the app running on screen to quickly see what radar was doing. Its distracting and disappointing the radar does not record everything internally so you can just look at it later when launching the app. Speaking of that, if you are not running the app, it will not record any of the alerts so you will have no idea what went on during your drive. It does not keep the data for when you launch the app later. Overall trying to rate this was very difficult. On the one hand, this radar is powerful able to detect all the bands, has Oscillation protection along with TSR and Multa. However on the other, unless you actually go into those settings and turn these features on your radar is worthless. Also requiring to always run the app and no battery must always be plugged in is a huge disappointment. If you are a beginner entering into the radar market, then this one is not for you. Unless you are willing to study and customize each setting to fit your environment this radar is at 20% efficiency. On the other hand, if you are a mid to expert in radar knowledge this is a must have as its impressive with all the bands and capabilities it has.

Even though I do not speed very often, I do find myself going over the limit after exiting the highway. I have been using apps to help locate potential speed traps. However, I found many are not identified and a radar detector would have been welcomed. Escort is one of the top radar detector manufactures and I was excited to try the Escort Max 360 MKII out. The detector first needed a firmware update which was easy to do. I was surprised that this detector still had a micro-USB connection for updates and a propriety connector during use. I would like to see Escort update this to use a single, multipurpose USB C port, but that is a minor complaint. During the first few days, I noticed a lot of false Ka and K alerts. However, I noticed the radar would remember (stored) some of the problem areas and learned to ignore the false reading. I really liked the speed trap warning and location indicators since I can confirm many are accurate. I did have one incidence the radar detector did not give me a warning, but I was passing a police officer which had someone pulled over. It is possible that the radar gun was turned off during the stop, but I thought I should share the experience. I was hoping to test how quickly this radar detector can pick up a signal, but I did not have any way of testing this. I was pretty happy with the Drive Smarter app. The app has a lot of additional features and can even alert me of upcoming speed checks from other people’s detectors (assuming they have a compatible detector and the app loaded). Pros Warns about speed traps Able to learn to ignore false alerts Great directional warning Many options in the app (Drive Smarter) Cons Still has quite a few false K and Ka alerts Still uses micro-USB port/propriety cable Overall, I would recommend this radar detector. I like how this detector works great right out of the box, however has many customizable features. I just wish Escort would update the USB port and ditch the propriety charging cable.

Very good Radar/Laser detector with one downside

Escort Max 360 MKII - This radar detector is almost the same in terms of features as the Max 360c but it is $50 less than the Max 360c as it doesn't come with the wifi. I decided to go with the 360 instead of 360c as I was ok with downloading and installing the firmware from the computer. Pros: 1. Longer Range performance - Escort has done a great job in increasing the range on the new Max 360 MKII which is almost comparable to Redline Radar detector which are more powerful. 2. Radar and Laser Detector - Its good to have not just Radar but also Laser detector. Both of them bundled together is an advantage. 3. 360° awareness, Signal strength indicator and colored directional arrows - The detector picks the signal from any direction and displays it using the directional arrows on the Top (Front), Bottom (Rear) or on the sides when the signal is detected. The Signal strength indicator shows how far the signal is. When the signal is closer to the car there are more bars displayed on the Left (Front) and Right (Rear). This is extremely helpful to know where to look for and helps us stay focused on the road as well. 4. Quite ride due to False alerts filtering - The rides have so far been quite. Most of the False alerts from the cars with anti-collision or blind spot monitoring sensors are filtered out. Especially the Blind spot filtering is really good. If you don't want the false alerts from the Blind spot monitoring system make sure the K-Notch is turned on. There are still a few anti-collision alerts that doesn't get filtered. On an average for a 20 mile journey (Depending on if we are in a highway or city roads) we might be getting around 1 to even sometimes 4 or 5 false alerts. We cannot complain as the system is learning and trying to be more smart in filtering out most of the false alerts. 5. Over speed alert - We can configure this alert in the app on what speed (over the speed limit - 5, 7, 10, 15, 20 or 25) should this alert be displayed. Since it is both visual as well as voice prompt, it is really helpful. Usually when we use the Google Maps or Waze we do not get the voice prompt. So there are chances we are overspeeding as we don't look at the screen. This Radar detector comes handy with this feature. I simply love this. 6. Drive Smarter app - There are plethora of options to play around with starting from adjusting the display color to the display details like displaying the frequency of Radar signal to over speed alert, to change the alert notification sound and much more. Also it is possible to get shared network alerts in advance through other connected detectors on the network. Cons: 1. Cable - The Cable is a greatest design flaw i would say. Especially since the Radar Detector is mounted on the windshield and has the magnet holding it, since the cable is like an old telephone(RJ11) cable that is wounded, it pulls the Radar detector down as my 12v connector on my minivan is inside the glove box and the cord is not that lengthy. Almost my detector has fell down 10 different times so far to only get me more upset. I saw on the Escort website that they do sell the Straight Smart cord for 35$. I reached out to the customer service and explained their problem and I said that i am not ready to pay for the cable. The agent said she cannot provide me a free cable. I requested to speak with the supervisor and i was told i will be contacted by the supervisor. The next i got an email and after explaining my problem, as an one time exception they shipped me a straight cable. I wish Escort provides the straight cable to everyone as this cord is really small and also pulls the detector down. Final Verdict - Even though i have seen the cops only once in the last 2 weeks, it did not detect any signal. It doesn't mean that the detector is not working. This detector or any other detector will detect the cop car only when they are using the Radar or Laser gun. I have seen the Detector picking up signals in the School zone. I could have marked it so that we don't get any false alerts in the future but i did not do it as it was within the first few days after i started using this detector. I am not someone who overspeed. I usually use the cruise control but sometimes I override the cruise control or take manual control of the car depending on the situation and even once i had got a speeding ticket before few years. If I had this detector then it would have saved me the speeding ticket as the cop said he was almost monitoring my speed from behind for over a mile. I am not suggesting that someone should use this to break the law but this detector can be used by someone who doesn't overspeed or sometimes overspeed without their knowledge. This detector will definitely save some money on the long run for these people and save them from getting the points added or even from the fines. Just the only call out is Escort should start providing straight cables instead of wounded ones.

Setup was easy, mount suction cup on dashboard and attach device by magnetic holer. Positive things are notifications of red light cameras, storing pouch and beeping gets little bit silenced by itself. Also you can install phone app which gives you lots of notifications and information, and I belive it comes with one year free of membership. I don't use app much since I have a habit to switch my sim card between multiple phones. More negative things to list, and here are they: Lots of fake alers for me which are the biggest issue itself for radar derectors. Often beeps like crazy but I could not see any emergency vehicles, speed traps or anything else that might cause alerts anywhere around. So yes it detect police but at same times scares you when there is no police around. Design of device is little too big for my own taste compared to previus radar detectors I owned, and my complaint goes on power cord which is short for my car since my power plug socket is located low, and right above is raised display on the way to windshield.

Thank you for your feedback. Over time MAX 360 will learn and store fixed location false alerts which are then silenced. You will still see them greyed out on the screen, but they will not sound.
Using Auto or Auto LoK SEN modes will also greatly reduce X and K band false alerts. To further reduce false alerts from vehicle collision avoidance systems, enable K Notch in the preferences menu. Note that we offer optional straight and direct power cords on our website which may work better for you in your vehicle. cedarelectronics-escort

So recently I bought the Escort 360 MAX MKII. Now, last month, I purchased a Uniden R8. Both detectors were purchased at the Saginaw, Mi Best Buy. I wanted one detector for each of my cars so that I would not have to keep moving my one detector back and forth between cars. As much as I like the Uniden, I wanted to try something different and hopefully comparable to it for the other car. The MAX 360 MKII looks on paper to be pretty much the equal of the Uniden and it is a lot cheaper. Well, I really like this detector a lot. It gets LESS false alarms than any other detector that I ever had. It seems to have sturdy construction and lots of features. I also paired it to the Drive Smarter APP but, since I live in a rural area, community alerts are almost non-existent so I cant say much good or bad in that respect. All in all, I am very happy with the unit. I did struggle whether to give the unit a 4 or a 5 rating, but I decided on 4 for one reason. The Escort seems to have a bit slower trigger time on both K and KA band than I would like to see. A slow alert response might hurt you when the police are using instant on. I have witnessed this on several occasions when compared to my other detector. Ideally, you want a super-fast trigger alert time and long-range detection so you can pick up the police when they are targeting the car or cars ahead of you with instant on. A quick blip of KA alert in front of you with a medium or high signal strength and in a frequency known to be used in your area should be enough to get your attention that it might be instant in front of you and for you to check your speed. That being said, the Escort does have super long-range detection, just a bit slower on trigger time than I would like to see, it might be OK but I need more time to be sure. The jury is still out on that. That said, it is not throwing false alarms all the time like the boy who cried wolf. Which I like a lot about this detector. Bottom line is, while no radar detector can guarantee you no ticket but will this detector help to protect you from getting a speeding ticket? I say yes.

You got to turn on a lot of settings that are disabled for the everyday person, but once you do that it works like a champ. Has paid itself off 4X already. First 2 Years. The instructions tell you to download an app that is being phased out. You will need to download "Drive Smarter" instead.

This is my first radar detector I’ve had in over 20 years. So I really don’t have anything to compare it to. My review is as if I’ve never had one. Ya know. So out the box it’s comes with a very nice travel case. I’m guessing you can take this on the road with your or vacation which never thought about until now. I rent cars for work and vacation so making sure I don’t get a ticket is a huge plus. All I did was mount the suction on my windshield and hooked on the radar detector which also has an almost club to it so that the magnetic piece doesn’t have to do all the work of keeping it mounted. Once I plugged it in it turned on and I started driving but hubby noticed that the app made the detector more functional and gave a lot of details for cops and speed. So I did and I put in the address we were driving to. At first it would go off and we would look around. If we didn’t see a cop after 30 seconds of beeping we would silence it or mute it down by the plug in which is very convenient. If you don’t speed a lot this isn’t for you. But I often don’t pay attention to how fast I’m going and this little guy tells you which direction the radar may be coming from so I feel better about my speeding. Lol

I've been using the Escort MAX 360 MKII for about a month and have found that it is a marked improvement over my older MAX 360 MKI in several ways. The first and most important to me is that the number of false warnings is markedly lower, particularly in areas I freqquently drive through. Usually, by the third time I drive through an area that triggers false alarms, the MKII has "Learned" that area and no longer falses. The second is the MKII seems to detect KA band signals about 20% earlier than the older MKI. Recently, I was traveling on I-80 when the MKII detected a KA signal in front of me (like all 360s, it tells you which direction the signal is coming from). I slowed down and started to look for where the signal was coming from. Remarkably, it was almost 2 miles later when I finally passed the offending state police cruiser, A new feature I especially like is the magnetic lock to attach the MKII to the windshield cup, which makes removing it and placing it in an inconspicuous place a snap. The older MKI was used a physical connector that made removing/replacing the unit from the windshield cup a bit fussy. The one con is the signal tones, which sound a lot more like my much older Escorts. The MKI tones are decidedly less annoying and more distinct as to which radar band is being deteced. After three decades of radar detector ownerhsip, I have found that Escort detectors have consistently been at the top of detection range even over other brands costing much much. That's not to say the Escort brand is cheap, they're not, but you get what you pay for and if it saves you from even one speeding ticket, it paid for itself in terms of time, money and aggravation.

This radar and laser detector works so well that I've recently purchased a second unit so now I am able to keep one in my personal vehicle and my work van. I haven't had a ticket in 10 years -- this is part of that feat. Great product, you won't regret it. Keeps you safe and alert.
