I have had this radar for a little under a year and it just stopped working completely. When you plug it in, it still makes the noise like it is turning on but nothing shows on the screen anymore. Complete Garbage...not what you expect from a $600 radar from escort!

Had escort radars for many years and this is the first one i had 2nd thoughts on first off takeing it off the mount is close to impossible and the same with putting it on. Tried 3 different units to rule out it is a problem with the max it self. Also flaps all over.

I used to be a road warrior way back and I have recently returned to the scene. This Passport MAX is all that! I really like the GPS feature and all it's notifications as well as the range of the actual radar detector. I used to have a V1 radar detector and if you know that one, then yes, you are reading an honest review. I was torn and felt as though I was cheating on a company I used to be loyal to. I am telling you that you won't regret this purchase and even though it's a hefty price, weigh that against a high priced ticket with the points and you won't regret it. I don't do side comparisons or professional reviews but I have done a lot of research and still was skeptical, I bought this and the smart cord direct and I won't look back. The only thing that would prompt me to buy another radar detector would be the same model with Stealth Mode...maybe in the near future? Thank You Escort for the Passport MAX!

    Best Radar Detector Ever

I gave 5 stars even with the Suction Cup Mount that comes with it. So I am using it on a pedestal mount. This is the Best Detector I have ever owned. And I have been buying Radar Detectors from the late 1970's. And when they come out with updates you can Download them through your computer. Already since I have gotten it they have updated Firmware 4 times. Escort listens to the customers Ideas for change and implemented them quickly. They also updated for specific Laser Devices that are new. The MAX is the fasted scan speed detector out there bar none. So when you encounter Instant On or Quick Trigger, the Max has the best chance and Range to Alert to it. Range is outstanding and I highly recommend it if you are a true Radar Detector Enthusiast..

This is the best detector on the market. I have had other Escort detectors and never got pulled over. This one is even more accurate and uses GPS to eliminate false signals you may drive by several times per week. Spend the extra money and pay for "escort live" it's an app for your smart phone that communicates with your detector and alerts you before you even get close (usually a mile away). So if I see a speed trap I press a button on my detector and it alerts other Escort users to the threat. Get this detector you won't be sorry.

Great detector, great features. Love the smartcord. I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 for two reasons... Mainly because I have returned 2 of them because the GPS failed within a week of using them. Third one is fine so far. The second thing I dislike is the app that works with the smartxord, very buggy app. All being said, its still a great detector.

    Great Detector, Very Quiet

The Passport Max was a new release to Best Buy when I purchased this radar detector. I decided to go with this one over the 9500, which was an upgrade from the s2 battery powered model. It was very accurate as far as detecting the police traps and radars, but I have a sound system in my car and could not even hear when the alert went off. I ended up swapping the Max for the 9500 and have been pleased ever since. The quietest setting on the 9500 is the Loudest setting on the MAX!

    Great Idea Poorly Engineered

Better on paper than in fact. Escort Passport MAX "Issues", per discussions with Escort Tech: The speed indicator is 3-6 mi off, depending on the car driven. Can't be retuned, as its tied to the GPS. the speaker isn't really loud enough #open window, normal music use, AC on high, etc.# so you need to Google a 3rd party to get a "stereo speaker" that will attach to the MAX's audio jack. if you buy the $30 item at escort, you need to plug it in separately to a cig lighter 12 V receptacle, if you have a spare. the range is somewhat worse than the Redline. If you opt for the redline, you don't get the red light cam, trap and self learning built in, but must rely on Escort live for a price #after yr 1#.

    Great product, poor quality.

I had the Escort Passport 9500 before and that radar detector was a trooper (no pun intended). Eventually though the suction mount stopped holding and I eventually moved to using double-sided 3M tape and mounting it manually to the dashboard. I recently purchased a new vehicle, so I thought I'd upgrade my detector as well and my good friend had just purchased the Passport Max and swore by it. Online reviews seemed kind of mixed, with some people reporting bugs in the Live app mostly. I bit the bullet anyway and purchased one - this was back in April. Fast forward to today and I've had issues with the Max snapping into the mount bracket since the date I received it. I thought maybe it was just me and I tilted the mounting bracket upwards to keep the radar detector from sliding back off of the mounting bracket since it wouldn't snap in. I asked my friend if his was doing that as well and it wasn't until he started messing around with his that he found that his too would not snap into the bracket either. When my detector is sitting flush (parallel to the dash) it actually slides off of the bracket while I'm driving and ends up sliding around the dashboard so I finally got fed up and emailed Escort. They replied asking for my address and I sent it in and never heard back (this was 13 days ago). I called today and after being on hold for 30 minutes they agreed to replace it under warranty and told me that I would have to cover shipping to them and they would cover it back. It seems to me that if you make a faulty product and it is under warranty, YOU as the company that still decided to produce it should take FULL responsibility for the repair. Another example of a good company, tainted by poor quality control and/or customer service decisions. Outside of that issue, the radar works great and I like the fact that it auto-stores locations where repeat false alarms occur. I find the GPS speedometer pointless, as every car in the U.S. comes with one, so it seems like something more useful could have gone here (like maybe the direction of the detected band so I know if the cop is up ahead, behind etc.). Making it talk is also pointless and when you drive closer to a band it goes down in volume where it would seem to make sense that it tries to get your attention MORE not LESS the closer you get or if you're going to have a GPS speedometer maybe if it doesn't detect a drop in speed it gets louder as you get closer? Just a thought.

I have two Escort Passport Max. They work great in the city. I just got back from my road trip to Disney World. Got popped 94 in a 70 and the Max NEVER went off. I look up and I am going 94 with a cop behind me! Prior to this I thought this radar was invincible. Through out the states I saw state troopers point their lasers at me, my detector never went off. Like I said, I have 2 of these, one for me one for my wife. I am very disappointed.
