I've gone through a lot of smart locks and this one is a winner. Only thing missing is AppleKey. With my doorbell off to one side this lock with a camera and doorbell work perfect for my needs with the camera point right down the approach to my front door.

I really wanted to love this lock—it’s convenient and works well overall. Unfortunately, it has one major drawback. Once installed, the interior door knob was so easy to turn that my dog, who had never opened a door before, was able to open it and run outside few times. I ended up having to return it for this reason.

Eufy Triple Duty Palm Scanning Smartlock

I’ve owned a bunch of Eufy products from security cameras to doorbells to locks. The quality and innovation of Eufy smart products is second to none. I loved my fingerprint reading smart lock. I actually haven’t carried house keys in years. I have a Eufy lock on each exterior door on my house. When I heard about the Eufy FamiLock S3 Max with Palm Scanner I really wanted to get one.
In the box you’ll find the inside panel, outside panel, battery, AAA batteries, a box of hardware, a Eufy security sticker, and a quickstart guide. My first impression was that the S3 was a solid piece of hardware and the battery is huge in comparison to my old lock. The battery is a 15,000mAH rechargeable battery which last 6 months on a charge. The quickstart guide directs you to get the app for setup and to a video for installation instructions. Having setup other Eufy locks previously I knew what I was doing but I used the step by step video anyway. I did find the video instructions somewhat annoying since you have to pause and start the video repeatedly to perform each step. I think a step by step instruction method like that used on other Eufy products would have been less frustrating. Installation was however a breeze. If you are upgrading from another Eufy lock the S3 slipped right in place using the prior locks door hardware and deadbolt so you can skip those steps just like I did. Basically you install the outside panel and run the cables through the door and connect to the inside panel. Secure the inside panel with screws and insert the battery and the backup AAA batteries and then your ready for setup within the Eufy app.
The app setup was also a breeze. You simply select add device and follow the step by step instructions. Once added and connected to wifi you are prompted to add your palm. This was surprisingly a nearly instantaneous process. I added one hand and later added the other within the app after setup. I did sync the S3 Max with my HomeBase 3 for added storage and additional AI features and security. Once setup was complete there was a prompt to install a firmware update. This takes a few minutes and then you’re up and running. Of course my first inclination was to test the palm scanning unlocking capabilities. Wow, very impressive! Just hold up your open hand to the scanner and the door unlocks immediately. Make sure you add both hands so in the event that you’re carrying something you just use the opposite hand. Don’t forget the S3 isn’t just a lock. It performs triple duty as also a doorbell and as a 2K HD camera as well so it has you covered. The FamiLock S3 Max also has a screen on the inside panel which with the touch of a button shows you the view outside your door. I think this a great feature as a peephole function which allows you to see who is at the door prior to opening it or having to use the app to do the same. This is very convenient and a great added security feature. If you’ve never had a video doorbell you’ll love the ability to check your cam remotely and the motion notifications are fantastic for added security or just to know when the mailman comes or a package is delivered. If porch pirates are an issue in your area then the cam is a great deterrent too.
They say the FamiLock S3 Max recognizes the unique vein pattern on your hand's palm in just .1 seconds with up to 99.99999% accuracy. From my experience so far this appears to be true. I’ve never had the door not recognize my palm scan and it activates instantly. This is definitely an improvement over my fingerprint reading smart lock which would often fail to read my fingerprint particularly if my hands were dirty or wet. The palm vein reading technology is not affected by dirty or wet hands or even skin conditions. The FamiLock S3 Max is a great product. Highly recommended.

It Doesn't Get Any Better Than This!!

I am writing this review for the eufy FamiLock S3 Max Deadbolt. The S3 Max Deadbolt comes with a built-in 2K video doorbell and palm scanner.
This is one of the easiest reviews I have ever written. Why? Because this is absolutely one of the best, if not THE best product of its kind on the market, hands down.
When I got home and picked up the package, I thought for sure I had received the wrong product. I mean, it was much heavier than I had imagined. So, I put everything else aside and opened up the box. To my surprise, it actually was the eufy S3. I was impressed by how well packaged the S3 came. The quality of the materials, the intuitive packaging…top notch all the way. As I familiarized myself with the contents, I noticed that the only instructions came in the form of a little folded Quick Start Guide. I looked it over and noticed there was a QR code to scan to access an online tutorial, and a rather short one at that. It all seemed so easy and simple. So I watched it a second time and felt confident enough to give it a shot.
I was not prepared for the unbelievably easy and simple installation of the eufy S3! In a matter of about 10 minutes I had it completely installed. Not only installed, but ready to go, save for a few minutes connecting to wi-fi and setting up my eufy account. I don’t know that I have ever had such a non-stressful setup before. It was amazing! 10 minutes.
As I was installing each component, I kept noticing just how well-built the S3 is. The materials, the design, the build…from top to bottom the S3 is pure quality. This is not some mass-produced-as-cheaply-as-possible piece of junk, this is a top-tier level product. And I became aware of why the box was so heavy when I picked it up. You won’t find even a trace of cheap plastic on the S3. I mean, everything about it is incredible.
Back to the setup, I don’t know if I am just one of the fortunate, but my deadbolt hole was perfectly suited for the eufy right out of the box. The setup required no technical skills, no “bunch of tools,” and everything is designed to assemble without stress of any kind. Their research and development team really deserve a ton of kudos for making the installation fail-proof. Everything just went together so easily. The only tool I needed was a Phillips-head screwdriver.
After installing, there is the usual connect-to-wi-fi, setting up an account, etc. And once that is all done, the eufy is ready to use. I wasn’t sure about the palm-scanner feature. To me it seemed a bit too good to be true, if you know what I mean. And way too futuristic. I honestly didn’t think it was going to perform well. I was wrong. To open the deadbolt, all you have to do is hold your palm a few inches away and almost immediately it unlocks. So to prove it’s trustworthiness, I had everyone try to open it with their palm. Worked perfectly. There is a very minor “learning curve” involved, as I needed to learn how to hold my palm so that the scanner could read it.
The video doorbell feature is just as wonderful. Anytime someone rings the doorbell, I am immediately notified via the app notifications. Even if they just walk up on the porch. And this is where eufy deserves the most praise… they don’t require a subscription for the doorbell to send alerts and store photos! It’s free. The photos are high definition, and there is no trying to guess what you are seeing. The photos really are clear.
Everything about the eufy FamiLock S3 Max Deadbolt/Video Doorbell is amazing. From the super high-resolution photos to the no-subscription-required to the top-notch palm scanner, this is top level! If you are really wanting to invest in an electronic deadbolt system with a video doorbell, please do yourself a favor and get the eufy FamiLock S3 Max Deadbolt!

The Eufy FamiLock S3 is a fantastic all in one device that offers a smart doorlock, doorbell and 2K video camera.
Installation is super simple. If you’ve already installed smart door locks before, nothing is different here, it literally takes about 5 minutes to install. If you’ve never installed smart door locks before, no worries. Eufy gives complete and detailed instructions and even offers videos that guide you step by step. With no prior experience, you can DIY this in about 15 minutes.
I love the dual power supply offered here. You get both a rechargeable battery and AA battery backup. So even if the main battery goes dead, you’re not locked out and have access to the smart lock and doorbell, however the video functions will be limited until full power is regained. But this is a nice touch of power redundancy. A first for any smart lock I’ve used.
The construction is nice and solid, the fit and finish is great and the matte black color will work with just about any décor.
The palm vein reader is a first for me and I was super excited to try it out. I will say two things about it:
- Yes it does work incredibly well and very fast when the angle of your palm is correct. It locks or unlocks almost instantly
- When your palm is not at the correct angle, it can be frustrating
For me, I never seem to have any issues with the palm vein scanning. I must have a knack for placing my palm at the correct distance and angle for the lock to scan and unlock instantly. My kids and wife however, don’t have the same luck as me. They only get in with palm access about 50% of the time, usually having to default to their pin code or Apple Home to unlock it. I’ve done it with them as well, and for whatever reason, they just don’t have the same success. They feel that going back to a finger print reader is better, as that worked almost 100% for them. So while I love this lock and it works all the time for me, I wanted to mention that experience for others in my family as an FYI.
The video doorbell feature is also very nice and makes this a great all in one unit for those who don’t have video doorbells, outside front cameras or smart locks. This FamiLock is the solution for all of that. The video is crystal clear compare to other similar products in this space, thanks to the 2K sensor on board. The notifications arrive instantly and you can set all the custom bells and whistles in terms of people or package alerts, loitering alerts which is a first for me and pretty cool. You can set the sensor range and define the area in which you want to be notified of motion or activity and the FamiLock even has a built in screen on the back of the lock where with a push of button on the lock itself, you can see real time what the camera sees. Great for when you don’t have your phone and need to see outside without opening the door. Eufy gives so much custom setting controls for everything regarding the lock and autolock, the video settings the notifications, etc. and what’s also great is that the video is stored locally, not in the cloud.
This is a great all in one solution for front door security with leading edge technology and customization that makes Eufy products some of my favorite.

eufy - FamiLock S3 Max Wi-Fi Replacement Deadbolt with 2K Video Doorbell and Palm Scanner
Easy setup, however, no directions, and require use of the internet or prior install knowledge. We have (3) S230 Smart Locks with fingerprint reader, so the installation was quick, and setup was easy. We installed the S3 Max where a previous eufy deadbolt was installed, so we were able to use our existing deadbolt. There was no need to change it so the installation of the new eufy Familock S3 Max took approximately 5 minutes. We also have a eufy HomeBase S380 (HomeBase 3), the Familock S3 Max automatically added itself to the HomeBase S380. The HomeBase is not required to utilize the Familock S3 Max. You can connect the Familock S3 Max to your Wi-Fi and use the eufy app to control/operate your Familock S3 Max.
To charge the main battery you will need a 5V / 2A power adapter and USB-C charging cable which is not supplied with the lock. Luckily, we already have one.
If you have a storm door, the storm door will block much of the video availability. Installing the Familock S3 Max on the average door will show part of your door frame in the video, however, there does not appear to be a means to alleviate this.
The Familock S3 Max is heavy duty and very well built. My only concern is the battery cover. The battery cover on our (2) S230 Smart Locks simply slip upward and off, so you have no resistance, and the battery cover works as well as the day we installed them. I’m concerned that the Familock S3 battery cover must be pried off, and with time this will wear on the battery cover. The (4) AAA batteries you install as a backup are a great feature. While charging the main battery, the backup batteries will keep the lock up and running, however, you can only use your PIN code access or key to lock/unlock, other functions are unavailable.
Lots of neat features on Familock S3:
From the interior of the door, you can press a button or turn the thumb turn to lock and unlock the Deadbolt. You can also press a button that turns on the 2K video, on the Familock S3, and view whom or what is on the outside of your door. This is a great feature and alternative to opening the door or attempting to see who’s at the door utilizing a peep hole. The camera will activate if someone presses the doorbell button on the lock. This gives you immediate video of who is at the door.
From the exterior of the door, you can touch the to lock the deadbolt when you’re leaving or you can utilize your code or use the key. To unlock the Deadbolt you simply use, the Palm Vein reader located on the top of the lock, use the App, Voice Control, tap in your Password, or use the Keys. You cannot use the palm vein reader to lock the Familock S3 Deadbolt. Using the veins in your hand(s) to unlock your door is extremely quick and simple, yet secure. According to an article I read regarding palm veins, they are unique to each person, just like fingerprints, however, they remain stable over a person's lifetime. This makes palm vein patterns a reliable and secure biometric identifier. Apparently, even identical twins have different palm vein patterns. Palm vein recognition technology utilizes this uniqueness to verify identities, and it's considered a more secure method than other biometric identifiers like fingerprints, due to its resistance to forgery attempts.
You can set locking priorities by utilizing the app. You can have the lock automatically lock, 5 seconds to 3 minutes after the door has been closed. You can also schedule a time for the lock to engage and disengage. Example: engage at a certain time in the evening and disengage at a certain time in the morning. Advantages and disadvantages, depending on your needs and door traffic. It would be more of an advantage to us if you could separate the engaging and disengaging time. We could set to automatically lock at a certain time in the evening, but we don’t necessarily want it to unlock in the morning.
The 2K video is more than adequate for identifying who’s at your door, and again, you can press a button on the interior of the lock and view a video of who is on the outside, without having to use the eufy app. When attempting to set the “Screen Area Setting”, on the app, there seems to be a glitch, no matter where I move the box to adjust the display area of the screen, approximately ¼ of our video is consumed by door frame. I saved it, but it doesn’t change. I also don’t see any differences when changing the Screen Settings Display Mode between “Wide-Angle Mode” and “Full-Screen Mode”.
You can integrate the eufy Familock S3 Max into your Alexa system/devices. We can ask our Alexa Show 10 to show us the door lock, and the door lock video is displayed on the Show 10.
The ability to allow others to enter your home using the palm vein reader or a pass code beats having keys made and given out. We have found the palm reader to be a little stubborn at times. By utilizing the eufy app you can remove someone’s access at any time. The additional advantage is not having to keep up with keys that you have given to family, friends, or workers. You can remove someone’s access without worrying about getting a key back or having to worry about someone losing a key.
For us, the eufy Familock S3 Max is a great addition to our home security.

The latest model of the Eufy - FamiLock S3 Max WiFi Deadbolt with 2K Video Doorbell and Palm Scanner
is one notch or two above all other models. From the moment you open the box, you can tell how much attention to detail and quality Eufy put into designing and refining earlier versions of this smart lock. Everything is intuitively labeled in the order of the installation steps to guarantee a successful installation by customers of any skill level, using only a Phillips screwdriver. The Eufy is different from other brands in that it actually replaces the whole dead-bolt assembly, so if you still want to use a key, you’ll have to use the unique ones that come with it, which is fine since it comes with a few keys that are probably nearly impossible to duplicate. Installation was very straight forward, you can even watch videos on-line or just follow the easy step by step instructions - it only took me about 20min. I did have the Eufy App already set up since I own an Eufy doorbell, but now it’s all integrated, so in with the new, out with the old. The big Li-Ion battery is supposed to last up to six months on a full charge under normal operating conditions - impressive - though time will tell. Eufy also included a pack of 4x AAA rechargeable batteries as a backup power supply, so the unit is still functional while you’re charging the main Li-ion battery that takes at least 6 hours to fully charge.
PROs:
Multiple ways to lock/unlock: Palm Vein Recognition, PIN, iPhone or Android phone App that works via both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, physical key, Alexa or Google Assistant
I would like to emphasize the Palm recognition functionality as it impressed me the most - it is super-responsive, I’d say under one second. You can register multiple palms so I did both left and right hands, for those days when you have all those grocery bags in one hand. You can have your other family members register their palms as well, since you can have up to 50 different ones.
You can register up to one hundred 4-8 digit PINs for you and other people you want to allow access, and the various PINs can be activated/deactivated on a schedule.
Automatic door-locking option thru the App once you closed the door behind you, or just a simple touch of the shield button on the keypad.
Nearly instant notifications and audit logs in the App when the door is locked/unlocked and by whom
Bright and Crisp built-in LCD screen that shows you who is at the door or the package you may have received on your doorsteps; 2K/15fps video quality in the App is also great quality
Solid drill-proof metal casing, with rubber grommet so you don’t damage your door finish
Waterproof IP65 rating that will withstand the elements
Lighted touchpad that wakes-up at the touch so you can enter the PIN
Frequent Firmware updates for security fixes and enhancements
All biometrics information stored locally on the device
No Monthly required for any functionality, unless you want to store your videos in their Cloud
No Major Cons:
No MicroSD memory slot built-in for local storage of videos, but in integrates with the Eufy HomeBase system that provides local video storage for door bells and other Eufy devices,
All in all, I am very impressed with this upgraded “lock and doorbell combo in one” and would recommend it to anyone who is in the market for either a doorbell or a smart lock or both.

I was looking for an more secured WiFi Deadbolt and got Eufy - FamiLock S3 Max WiFi Replacement Deadbolt with 2K Video Doorbell and Palm Scanner. It came with 1 x Video Smart Lock S3 Pro Exterior, 1 x Video Smart Lock S3 Pro Interior, 1 x Hardware Kit, 1 x Charging Cable and 1 x Quick Start Guide. Setup is quick. I have removed the existing deadbolt from the main door and installed Eufy S3 Max using the hardware kit came along with the package. All installation done in less than 30 mins. It fits perfectly on the door.
Build quality is solid and it looks very stylish on the door. I have downloaded the eufy app for notifications and view the recordings. I have configured my palm and checked few times and it worked flawlessly. With accurate, forgery-proof palm vein technology, FamiLock S3 Max recognizes the unique vein pattern on my hand's palm in just 0.1 seconds with up to 99.99% accuracy. All of my family members done the same setup using their palm to unlock the door. All the information are stored locally in device and nothing stored cloud for added security.
The integrated color video screen on the inner lock provides a seamless, app-free alternative for monitoring who or what is at the front door. It provides sharp, clear views from the built-in 2K HD camera and f/1.6 lens that provides detailed footage even in twilight or sunset hours. Goodbye blind spots with the camera's 150° head-to-toe, wide-angle coverage. Battery life is amazing and it can provide up to 6 months of power with the 15,000mAH rechargeable battery and 4 AAA batteries can be added to get extra month of power in cases of battery goes out without charging for a long period of time. Also, touch key based entry can be configured as well.
With the Eufy app, the deadbolt can be controlled remotely and provide access from anywhere and also sends real time alerts for package delivery, persons alerts. It perfectly integrates with Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa and Smart things. I am really impressed with the accuracy of palm readings, amazing video quality, extended battery life and instant alerts during package delivery.

I think these automated door locks are a must-have these days. They're just so convenient while still being secure. No more fumbling around with keys when loaded with grocery bags or fumbling around in the dark trying to unlock the door. With previous models, you had an app or keyfob to automatically unlock the door. Or, if your door lock was capable of it, you had geo-fencing that would unlock just from getting near your door. This lock takes it a step further with palm reading which is somewhat new but just as convenient.
I've had a couple of these door locks and all worked well. Although I did have a major issue with my previous one that cost me a locksmith to open my door. That being said, still enjoy having these locks for both security and convenience.
This one is unique in that it unlocks by scanning your palm. There is a keypad for manual unlocking but this utilizes your palm to unlock the lock. I've seen/heard this technology being used in China for payments so it works but still might be a bit too "new" for some folks. I had my concerns about this just because I hadn't heard that much of it being used state side, let along with unlocking doors.
So far, it's been pretty accurate. I would imagine it would have to be so if it's used for things like payments/commerce. Still though, I was a tad leery about it since I wasn't 100% sure on its stability and functionality. As mentioned before, it works pretty well and I haven't had any lock out issues with it.
Battery life was another thing of concern as well for me. With most door locks you power them by AA/AAA batteries which has to potential to die on you when least expected. This one solves that issue both with battery use as well as a rechargeable battery within the unit.
The camera on this is cool as well. I have a separate door bell cam already so this one may be replacing that as well since it'll be somewhat redundant to have two cameras on my front door.
Overall, I like it and it works well. I know some may have some reservations with this new technology but it works well for me so no complaints.
