Ibpurchased this eufy set end or March 2023. Present day May 15 2023 and they no longer work as they used to. I am not getting any notifications at all. Im fact, i just went to the front yard infront of both cameras and neither of them picked up anything at all. I was in front of them for about a good 30 seconds each and received zero notifications like i used to. Its scary because the other day we had some strangers come up to the house and the cameras did not let us see them approach nor did it record anything like it used to. Customer support is asking for address and proof of purchase for next step in resolving my issue. If next step is replacing them with the same products, i truly hope the next set is not faulty like this one.

    Noteworthy Wireless Camera Offering

Eufy is no newcomer to the wireless cameras – although the name may be new to you. Eufy is part of the Anker brand, mostly known for making quality mobile cables, chargers and data banks. Being familiar with Anker, I was excited to take a look at the Eufy Cam Pro 2 wireless security system. The cameras are attractive and well built. Nothing feels cheap in this kit and all components seem study and high quality. The design is nice, but I hope to see some silicone black covers for the cameras as previous generations have already seen. The base station is a nice compact size. Video quality is good – albeit not as high a resolution as I had anticipated. Though, that’s probably my fault for seeing “2k” and thinking “1440P”. The actual resolution is 2044 x 1080. Overall video quality is great. The included base station has a built in 16GB of storage. Your mileage may vary, but this is looking a substantial amount of storage since the video only records on movement and at set time intervals. I have mine set to activate on “human movement” only and for 20 seconds. This has only proven problematic a few times in the last week. In general, if you’re looking wireless cameras as part as a feature-rich home managed security solution – you may want to stop a take a look at the Eufy Cam Pro 2. For the sec of brevity, here are some quick points: Cons: *Motion detection range seems a little short to me. Support claims a 25-30 foot range. That seems optimistic from my experience. My experience is more like 15 – 20 feet. **Example, while mounted on one side of garage – people walking on other side of a 3 car garage are not detected *Can only record on motion triggers – constant recording is not supported - for obvious reasons, but should still be noted *States that adding local USB storage will be a future option – not currently available **Home base will support high speed USB drives up to 128GB for video storage - no noted time frame *Supports RTSP streams for connecting to a supported NAS or client. I tried multiple methods to get this to work on my home NAS and was unsuccessful. **Although RTSP is a general standard, support states that it has only been confirmed with Synology NAS appliances. Pros: *Audio is good– 2 way microphone is decent *Can be used as part of a complete security system. Eufy offer a complete range of security products to tie into the base station *No monthly fee REQUIRED – this is the big one. Do I think some other subscription based products may have some better features – Yes. Do I want to pay for a subscription fee if I can avoid it – NO. Also note, there are cloud storage options for pretty reasonable fees if this is a requirement for you. *16GB local storage – seems adequate. I hope to see USB or better network storage support in the near future. *Wide viewing angle – 140 degrees – lens distortion is tolerable. *Claims a 365 day battery charge – I haven’t had them long enough to confirm that – but I’d be happy with ½ that

The EufyCam2 is a 2 camera system with a Homebase. The Home base plugs into your router like many of camera systems that are out there. You then “pair” and setup each camera to the base station. The cameras seem to be very well made, heavy, but sleek and very nice looking. The homebase is larger than most home base type units but this one does have a USB connection in the rear that you can use to charge the cameras. I must say that I did have issues with the setup. You have to install the app to start the setup. That was very straight forward and the app seems straight forward functional. I have setup different devices plenty of time and this one seemed to struggle in getting setup. It never would connect to my router even though it was plugged into it! I tried over and over. In the packaging, they sent one of those small pin types reset tools and there is a reset hole on the back. I tried that, it seemed to work. It got right to the point of trying to update the firmware and then it just failed over and over. I finally got frustrated, reset it again, couldn’t get it and went to bed after messing with it for an hour. I woke up the next morning to it being “online”. I tried to do the firmware update again and after 2 tries, it worked! Next, came the cameras. To pair them, you have to go into the app, start to add the camera, it says to put it less than 1m from the Homebase. You then press the “sync” button on the back of the homebase. Again, this, for me was a multi-attempt for each camera. Each camera taking 2-3 times to actually get setup. Not that huge of a deal but there may be some improvements in the setup that can be accomplished with further firmware updates. I did charge both cameras to full before starting because they advertise 365 Day battery life. The mounts make it easy to remove them, bring them in and charge them. Now, let’s get to the good stuff. These are amazing cameras! They do they have 2K resolution which you can change from High, Medium, Low and Auto. I chose Auto as it is adaptive to the available bandwidth. They also have very customizable Motion Detection capability. You can select “All Motion” or “Human” motion. This is helpful when I let the dog out or the wind is blowing but there is not physical person there. The really cool thing here to is that if you have either set and it grabs the clip and defines the “motion” it will tell you it’s “Human”. It will also grab its best attempt at capturing the actual Face of the person! This is so cool and worked very well in grabbing mine or my wife’s face in the clips. This is probably the coolest security feature that I have seen. If you have intruders, it will give you as good a shot at their face that it can. This comes with other very neat features. It has 16GB (about 14.7GB usable) of internal storage that will store your clips. You can manage this storage from within the app. The other cool feature that I didn’t use but you can is the ability to attach to NAS storage. If you have a NAS device on your network, you can set it up for those clips to be stored there, thereby greatly increasing the storage capability. Night Vision is great on these. Audio is on par with other security cams, there is a delay, but it is understandable. The notifications to my phone were really fast and viewing the clips remotely via the app worked flawlessly. You can setup other users to have access here so I plan to give my wife access to it as well so if I am traveling, she can get the same notifications. Things I really like: Human vs all motion, configurable motion zones, great video quality in day and night, military grade encryption. They are also certified as IP67 Weatherproof. Things I struggle with: Setup was a struggle but got through it. I was able to setup the Eufy Security on Alexa but cannot seem to setup the cameras, it doesn’t have the Eufy in their list and couldn’t discover them. Also, it says that the Homebase can work like a wifi extender? How, it seems to have to stay plugged directly into my wifi router? Can I remove it from the router once setup? The manual says nothing about this. I even logged into the support site and no luck, the only docs there are pdfs of what is in the box. Overall, I really love the quality of these and would recommend them highly. I think they have some setup issues to address and doc’s and support could be more available than what is online. All that is easy stuff to fix. The core product is solid, as is the app.

As advertised! eufyCam 2 Pro Security Camera Smart - Smart Image Enhancement - Night Vision(High Sensitivity Sensor) - Motion Detection - Activity Zones - Two-way Audio - Supports Google Voice Assistant/Alexa/HomeKit - Human Detection Easy - 1 Year Battery - HomeKit - Repeater Mode - No contracts or Monthly Fees - 100% Wire-free - Magnetic Mount Safe - 2K - 16GB Local Storage - Military Grade Encryption - IP67 - Anti-Theft Alarm Free eufySecurity App - Live View & Recording History - Instant Notification - Multi-User Access Several how to do it links below. No info at this time on the eufy pro 2 2K system. https://www.eufylife.com/products/variant/eufycam-2/T88411D1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1m8jmwH-5-w https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJ0PeJKonEY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLLE0dRzMpM System is perfect except for one significant item; There are no directions for download or retrieval of the entire 16GB internal files on the base unit. You can retrieve video clips in the view mode and save them to your cell phone through the eufy app. This package uses the new base 2. The USB port in the back has no immediate function at this time. First impressions that this is a quality unit with only the issue with full internal memory retrieval. The directions are clear and connecting/linking all the parts were the easiest of any camera system so far. Two way audio is outstanding but you must cut the mic/speaker if you are in feedback range. For the price this is superior to other products with these features and highly recommended as it has no monthly fees.

Initial thoughts: Eufy states that this camera can run on a single charge for up to one year. That couple with the camera features and the fact there is no monthly fee for services sounds like a winner from the start. What’s in the box?? -The base station -2 cameras -Mounting hardware(for both inside(magnetic) and outside(screw in type) -Network Cable -Power cable for base station -Charging cable for cameras -Quick start guide SETUP: Setup wasn’t too difficult, but I did have some issues. First you have to connect the base station to power and a router via the supplied ethernet cable. You then are supposed to scan a QR code on the bottom of the base station to get it up and going. This did not work for me, you can also type in the code manually which did not work for me. After I restarted the base station I went back in the app and searched for devices and it found it right away and connected. When connecting the cameras, I suggest you do one at a time. To start open the app and following the instruction on adding cameras. You essentially hold the button on the camera for few seconds then it connects. I suggest you then walk to the place you would like to mount it and look at the signal strength meter on the app to make sure it good before you install it. Eufy also recommends that you mount the camera 7-10 feet high out of direct sunlight and away from reflective services if you want optimum performance. Like I stated previously if you mount the cameras inside then use the magnet mounting hardware and if you install outside, use the screw in mounting hardware. One thing to note on the screw in mounting hardware is that it is limiting on the angle so double check the position and angle before you mount it outside. Features: There are a lot of features of this camera and honestly one of the most appealing for me is the no contract/monthly fee. I like that there are no wires to mess with and the fact the battery life is supposed to last 365 days. It also has 16GB of internal eMMC storage. This system also has human detection software that focuses on humans in the image. I confirm that it does connect with apple home kit but if you do beware some of the features will not work and the image quality is not as good as using the Eufy app. I like the 2 way talk on these cameras as it pairs nicely with my doorbell. It also has a 100db intruder siren. These cameras are IP-67 rated as well. The last feature that I would like to mention is the ability of the HomeBase 2 to serve as a Wi-Fi extender. Performance: I mounted one camera on my front porch to watch the driveway and front entrance and the other camera on the back deck to watch over the inground pool and surrounding area. I felt that both cameras offered good coverage angles of my property. I felt that watching the live video was very sharp and accurate as well as previously captured video. The night mode I felt gave the same results, the clarity/sharpness and distance was very nice in night mode as well. You can also zoom in on either mode (live/recorded). The motion detection worked very well and the alerts came within seconds. The front camera detects cars driving down my street and its 60ft from the house. You can adjust the motion detection by increasing or decreasing with the slider or creating activity zones in the app. The zones was a neat feature as the cameras will only send alerts if there is activity in the zones you set. Keep in mind that it does still record all view area but it will only send alerts if there is activity within the zone you set up. The App: The app is super easy to install and use. When you open the app it takes you to a screen where it lists the cameras and the last recorded image. At first, I didn’t understand how to get to the live feed but if you just click play on the video you see for the camera it open up the live feed. Once in the live feed you have options to record, take a snapshot, activate 2 way-talk and muting/unmute the cameras speaker. There is also a 3 line icon that opens to another menu where there is the library of saved clips, turn off/on nightvision, activate siren and access the camera settings. There is an events tab where you can set security modes. There is a Home mode (set as default) where the camera will detect motion, record video and send alerts. In away mode it basically does the same thing but add in an alarm to fend off intruders. There is even a schedule mode where you can set home and away schedules and the it uses your GPS to activate modes based on your location. PRO’s: -IP67 rated -365 day battery life -Wire free -No Monthly fee -100db Intruder Siren -16GB local storage -Very sharp images in day and night -HomeBase 2 serves as Wi-Fi extender -Pairs with Apple Home kit, Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa CON’s: - The provided instructions were not very clear -The outside mounting brackets limit the angle you can move the camera, the magnetic mounts offer a wider and superior angle Final Thoughts: Overall, I feel that this product worked very well and I would recommend this to a friend if they are in the market for device like this. This would be great for people who do not want to mess with a wired system.

    Security at its Finest!

We all want to feel secure and safe whether we are at home or work. This is my first security system and the eufyCam has exceeded my expectations. I loved how easy it was to set up the system and the corresponding app. This system is security at its finest. The system was shipped from China and might've been touched by inspections because I did find residue on one of the cameras. Besides that, the rest of the items were in good condition. You will get the option to use this system outside or inside. Depending on where you choose to install it, there will be two different ways to mount the camera. For interior installation, you will need to use the magnetic mounts. For exterior installation, there will be a screw-on mounting base. The HomeBase 2 is the local storage. You will need to connect this device to a router when setting up initially but you will be able to use WI-FI once all the set-up is complete. One of the features I found prominent was that the HomeBase can be used as a WI-FI repeater. Essentially, this will boost your WI-FI signal. Note that the range of this is 300ft. The eufyCam Security System has state of the art technology to make the average user of this system feel comfortable when using it. This all creates a feeling of security at the highest level. The cameras have smart detection where it will only detect humans and their faces if they are in sight. Along with that, the camera has excellent night vision. The camera also does a great job of detecting humans and their faces at night. The cameras also have a 2k resolution with a favorable field of view. The app is available for both IOS and Android devices. It is very user friendly, my father who is a bit technology illiterate found the app easy to use. There are various customizable settings for the cameras and the HomeBase. Such as toggling the Anti-Theft Detection and detection sensitivity. Unfortunately, there is no PC app at the moment. I feel having a PC application for the system can be beneficial for businesses and for users who are often on their PC at home. Hopefully, a PC app can be a possibility in the future. Overall, the eufyCam Security System provides the security system one is looking for with easy accessibility and customizable features. In the amount of time, I have been using the system, I have had an excellent experience with the system. I recommend this system for those who need that security in their household or business.

Love it!!! Upgraded from an Arlo first edition. I wish I had bought these sooner!! My Arlo 4-camera set up was alright, but I had really bad issues with lag. The Arlo cameras would only pick up motion while someone was walking away..which I found out upon research is a pretty much a common issue across all Arlo cameras. Plus it was super annoying when it would constantly pick up curious insects like wasps and moths throughout the day. However with the Eufy, the software is just so much better— there is no lag when viewing live or in between clips. It even has AI detection which is really nice for the price point.. it knows when someone walks by and notifies you accordingly vs regular motion like trees moving etc. Pros: no lag, set up is fairly easy, it walks you through step by step on how to connect. app is user friendly—a lot of options like theft protection, privacy zones, and being able to customize the length of recordings etc. Comes with 16gb storage (approx. 3 months of recordings). In addition, the Hub can either connect to your router via WiFi or Ethernet. If you need 4 or more cameras, I’d recommend buying them in packs with the hub because they can act as an access point for the cameras! Battery life is amazing so far. With arlo I had to charge every 3-4 weeks or so. I can see this lasting double that at least…but of course depending on how active it is. The night mode is great even without any nearby lights, very clear. Cons: Only con is that I had some trouble connecting to the hub at first. For some reason it kept saying I had no internet connection when it was connected via Ethernet. My internet was up n running, no issues. After like 30-60 mins it finally connected. My two other hubs connected immediately after that. You have to connect the hub first via Ethernet one time before connecting it through WiFi. This concluded my review :) I’d definitely recommend these cameras!

    Great System w/ some Caveats

My 3 of 5 star rating mostly comes down to 1 star deduction for a misleading fact and another star for a combination of little things that I felt added up to a deduction. In use, for the 1 week I have owned the system, I’m pretty pleased with it. I have only setup 1 of the 2 cameras while testing the system and because of some things I learned during installation. I may have to rethink my placement of where I hoped to install the 2nd camera. I’ll start with the negatives as that is what really matters most with anything, but up front, I can easily recommend this system for a number of reasons, which I will put in the positive section. So, the first 1 star deduction award goes to Eufy/Anker for deceptive advertising (I have added images to show). If you look at all the promotional material for outdoor use, they are using the magnetic base, which is by far the easiest setup, also depending on the location of the camera, the easiest to remove/steal (the app does have a camera movement alarm that can be turned on/off, which is definitely helpful). However, all the instructions state that the magnetic base is for indoor use only and the outdoor mount is ball and joint-twist lock- compression style bracket. This reduces the mounting range of motion of the camera. Knowing the competition uses magnetic bases, this is a pretty deceptive move. The indoor magnetic mount has a rubbery surface for added friction to keep the camera in place. The magnets are very strong and that rubber just helps even more. Definitely not suited for an outside application. Cannot see that material lasting through a typical East TN year of weather. The 2nd star reduction list is for these reasons: The recommended outdoor mount base and twist lock is just a glossy enamel paint over plastic. The camera system is rated at IP67. However, the instructions state in the app not to place the camera in direct sunlight, which means it is expected to be installed with some protection in mind. Again, look at the promotional material and it is not done that way. Following the setup guide, 1 major item is omitted...charge the cameras first! One camera took 3 hours to charge to full and the other took 6. Manual states that 12 hours needed for charging and another spot 8 hours is needed, so they definitely were not ready for a "year" of use. On the charging topic, the manual states the cameras can be charged off the USB port of the base station or a standard 2amp USB charger with no preference. And again, the App setup guide recommends differently, only using the base station to charge. Quick Setup Guide vs App Install Manual. Too much back and forth. I all in on printing less and creating digital content, however, there is too much slight change of information between the two manuals. They need to just put a little more information in the printed quick start guide, or just do away with it all together and make it a download, which is available online. And also update one or the other to match the recommendations. Sound Quality is pretty good, it picks up a lot of white noise in the live stream mode and it is present when capturing a screen recording. But it doesn’t seem to interfere with the audio captured from the motion recording. The speaker is down-firing and very audible from my location of placement. Video Quality is good, but I am not seeing a 1080p quality out of it during the live stream or captured motion recordings. Downloading the footage is the same quality. It is good, but its not 1080p recording you would expect from a traditional camera/smartphone. I can’t fault Eufy too much here as that is sort of an industry standard I have come to find in my other security camera dealings...even with 4K being touted. Sure the sensor is bigger so it is letting in more light for a clearer image, but a lot of compression is taking place to make the video feed not use up too much bandwidth/storage and actually make a video clip downloadable quickly. Build Quality I have sort of touched on under the deceptive advertising, however, going further when I unboxed the equipment, i noticed some residue of some kind around the camera housing exposed and there were some smudges on the device itself and the plastic cling lens protectors looked like they had already been taken off and put back on. To some degree it looked like the item had been handled already. This item did ship directly from China, so not sure if customs inspected or not. The longevity of this product will be greatly determined by its placement and seeing that the printed materials have a discrepancy between the advertising and the quality of the mounting brackets, I’m guessing for outdoor use, keep this out of the weather as much as possible. During installation of the base station, which is one of the first steps, the unit was trying to tell me two different things at the same time, so it was playing audio for two different instructions/notifications at once. And during the first attempt to pair the “Home Base 2” with the app the device could not be found. A quick second attempt and the device was found. And that is where the negatives stop for me. On the positive side of thing, installation is a breeze over a wired system which I am most familiar with installing. This system is a hybrid of both wired and wireless systems as it does come with the built in storage, of which I was hoping was upgradeable, but sadly is not. You can tweak the motion detection for longer clips, increased sensitivity, and for all types motion detection instead of just human only. While storage is only 14.7GB formated and not upgradeable/removable, it at least has the local storage option that some other wireless only systems do not and force a paid monthly subscription for any real-world use. The subscription services Eufy offers are quite cheap too, when looking at the competition. Eufy, like other App/Wifi/ based systems, is very easy and quick to send push notifications. The Home Base 2 can be setup to operate only over WiFi instead of the wired internet system, but for my application next to the router was actually the best spot. The Wifi only allows for better coverage as the base station acts as a repeater for the Wifi to the cameras, I have a mesh system so it is a bit redundant, but good to know. The guide states this system can accept up to a total of 16 cameras, I am not sure what that would do to your home bandwidth, but that may be a bit extreme. For 16 cameras, you are typically talking a large footprint, so I would have think the location of the cameras could suffer from connection issues. Not to mention, these have to be recharged at least once a year, so placement will need to be well thought out. While I am very familiar with Anker products, I was not so familiar with their other divisions, and they definitely have an impressive product lineup and the Home Base 2 acts as a hub to add on door and window sensors, as well as, a keypad for arming and disarming. The app has the Home and Away modes and the cameras can function on the recording level based off that. One item I wish the app had was a widget. Android users have quite a custom to quick launch mini dashboard icons for various apps and a widget for arming/disarming would be nice or pulling up the livestream of a particular camera more quickly. One interesting item I noticed in the camera setup guide is they have Crying Detection, since Eufy has other indoor cameras and baby monitors I am assuming this where that AI comes, as it seems a bit strange for what is billed as a Indoor/Outdoor Security Camera. I have tested it out yet, but I am not quite far enough into this current pandemic for my neighbors to think I have totally lost it yet! Overall, I am very pleased with this setup. I definitely have been given pause on where I was going to place my 2nd camera and if I tweak my capture settings for the 1st camera, I may end not needing a 2nd camera outside and will opt for a garage mounting location where sun exposure or weather definitely won’t be a problem. The fact that cloud storage is an option is great and it is cheap at that for what you get. The material states that the servers are based in the US, with this being a Chinese company, that could concern some on the location of the online servers. Choosing local storage, I have not seen anywhere, where anything is being sent to online servers. I did include a screenshot of the “Donate” pop-up that is available as a tab when viewing a video capture. So it appears with local storage information can only be shared with Eufy if one chooses for each individual capture. One caveat if you are thinking about this from a full security suite application, this won’t be hooked into any 911 services, there are other security systems with comparable pricing if you want/need that feature, which it must have if you want a discount on your homeowners insurance. Outside of that I can easily recommend this camera system product even given the other negatives highlighted above. Having said that, you will definitely want to think about your placement of the cameras before purchasing, even more so with just thinking about battery life, but that would also be the same for any wireless battery operated system. But for the Eufy, you definitely don’t want to be 30ft(max) up on a ladder trying to screw the camera back into the mount. In the 5 days I have been using this system I am liking what I see. I do want to tweak the sensitivity and will most likely turn off Human only detection as I want to be alerted when a vehicle pulls into my driveway giving me more time to anticipate someone climbing the stairs to my porch. The default settings and the zone I setup, a person is already at the top step before I get the alert. While it is a fast push notification, humans can walk faster. Hope this helps someone.

I bought this camera 7 months ago and I am very happy I went with this brand. The app is easy to use, I can adjust settings on the camera easily, the night vision is great and you can see clearly, the battery is excellent, it works great with all weather, and I love that theres no need for external storage. The only reason i do not rate it 5 stars is because I noticed some missed human motion but this could be due to how long front yard is. This could be fixed with adjusting the types of motion to be caught as I have it at human motion only currently. If you change this setting, it picks up everything- even leaves moving. I do plan on buying more in the future. Set up is easy as well.

The EufyCam 2 system has two major claims to fame. The cameras are wireless with batteries rated to last one year on a charge, and video is stored locally so no monitoring service or fee is needed. This means no wiring and no monthly fees. This kit comes with two cameras, but the system can handle up to six. The cameras seem very solid and well built. Installation and setup are very straight forward if you follow the simple instructions. You must install the Eufy Security app on your phone or tablet (unfortunately there is no PC app yet) and establish an account. Then the base station has to be connected to your router with the included ethernet cable for the initial setup and firmware update. The cameras are then paired to the base. Apparently, the base station acts as a WIFI extender and can be moved to a different location after this process is completed. This might be helpful if you’re having range issues and maintaining a connection, but the ethernet connection is recommended. During the setup, you name your base and cameras. For example … Joeshome, front door, backyard, etc. At this point, you install the cameras. Both magnetic (indoor) mounts and screw-on mounts are provided. The app will check the connection and let you know to the signal is good enough. I’ve had no issue with range even with the base on my second floor and a camera set behind my detached garage probably 75 feet away. The base has 16 GB of internal memory, and all recorded video with audio is saved locally. I haven’t tried it, but the system claims to be compatible with Apple Homekit as well as Alexa and Google Assistant. The video quality is quite nice and in color when well lighted or in daylight, and it’s acceptable at night when using its own infrared lighting. As with any very wide-angle camera, there’s a lot of barrel distortion. I believe the field of view was stated as 140 degrees. The app is fairly full-featured with control for motion sensitivity, defined view areas for motion detection, alarms, push notifications, home and away modes, schedule by the time of day, live viewing and a talk feature. There’s even a geofencing mode that can be used to automatically activate features when your phone leaves home. The system has the AI ability to be set to only activate and record when it detects humans. That saves a lot of unnecessary video of animals and such. Wherever you are … remote or at home, you can receive real-time push notifications and access the cameras live or recorded events. There’s quite a lot packed into a small and simple to use package, and I would recommend it to a friend as a basic home monitoring and security system. Whether the one-year battery charge is accurate will take some while to verify. If there were a PC app and higher cam resolution with less distortion, this would be near perfect system. As it is, it’s pretty darn good.

I received my Eufy Security system and was very pleased at how easy the setup was. With the base unit and the two cameras I am set for a basic security system. The nice part is it can be expanded with more cameras. Once the system is set up you can view the cameras and video from your iPhone of Android phone. The cameras have a wide angle view and captures a large area. The cameras have a 365 day battery life that is great. The iPhone app works great with push notification that allows you to know when someone enters the cameras viewing field. I would recommend this system to anyone who needs to keep an eye on thing while not home

EXCELLENT WIFI VIDEO SECURITY– NO CLOUD ACCOUNT

Having recently installed the Eufy Smart Video Doorbell, and being highly pleased with its impressive performance, I was very motivated to acquire the new Eufycam 2 Pro Security Camera System as an adjunct to the Eufy Doorbell. This Eufycam 2 Pro Security Camera System is genuinely excellent and very impressive! Eufy is produced by Anker, a well-known and respected manufacturer of cell phone accessories, which has also earned a reputation for excellent customer service. The company is aptly named “Eufy Innovations”, and they are indeed innovative in these excellent devices which are generally superior to competitive products from other companies. Eufycam 2 Pro Security Camera System is a complete kit which includes two Model T8140 IP-67, “Weatherproof” rated, 2k video cameras and a Eufy Homebase 2 Wi-Fi hub. This kit includes all of the necessary camera mounting items, including a pair of screw-on mounting bases (camera attaches via a threaded stud), with an adjustable gimbal mount and friction collar, for exterior mounting applications, as well as a pair of magnetic mounts for interior mounting. The package also includes the necessary screws, plastic plugs and drilling templates to facilitate mounting on multiple surfaces including wood, drywall or masonry. Even the USB cable for charging the cameras and the Ethernet cable for the initial setup of the Homebase 2 are included. This new, Eufycam 2 Pro model camera is an improved and upgraded evolution of its predecessor, the Eufycam 2. The significant improvement is in camera resolution. Where the Eufycam 2 produces 1080p images, this new Eufycam 2 Pro produces 2k resolution video. The camera sensors are Sony Starvis IMX307, 1/2.8” CMOS sensors with a 140° field of view and f 2.4 aperture. A very appealing and compelling feature is that all videos are stored locally on the Eufy HomeBase2 which is connected to the home Wi-Fi network, and is equipped with 16 GB of eMMC flash memory. No cloud storage account is required with an additional, recurring fee, (optional cloud storage is available, if desired) and no arbitrary time limit for video storage is imposed. 16GB of storage will hold many videos for a long time, before overwriting older files. Although cameras generally won’t prevent crime, videos can be valuable in solving crime. Additionally, real-time notifications and real-time streaming of video, enables a property owner to immediately notify law enforcement and potentially provide critical information while a crime is still in-progress and officers are responding. Setup of the Eufycam 2 Pro Security Camera System is generally straightforward. Initial setup and all device configuration and management functions require the Eufy Security smartphone app (Android and iOS versions). The sparse Owner’s Manual instructs you to connect the Homebase 2 to your Wi-Fi router with the supplied Ethernet cable. Thereafter the Eufy Security smartphone app provides excellent, step-by-step instructions, including audio guidance. The glaring exception to the otherwise excellent setup instructions, is that once the Homebase2 is set up using the required (and supplied) Ethernet cable (connecting directly to the Wi-Fi router), the setup process completes without any further guidance for connecting the Homebase2 to the network via Wi-Fi. The process is quite simple and straightforward, but requires the user to explore the app and access “Devices” > “Homebase2” > “Connection” > “Wi-Fi Setup”. The Eufy Security app should automatically offer that Wi-Fi Setup step prior to finishing the setup process, and this important step should also be documented. Adding the Eufycam 2 Pro cameras to the Eufy Homebase 2 hub network is likewise extremely simple and straightforward and fully guided by the Eufy Security smartphone app. Configuring the operating features and options of the Homebase 2 and the 2k cameras is equally simple and fast. The Eufy smartphone app is quite good and functions well and reliably. It is very robust and includes many features, none of which are documented, and all of which require exploration by the user. The Eufycam 2 Pro camera features and capabilities are very similar to the Eufy Smart Video Doorbell camera and also support detection and differentiation of humans from other moving objects in the flexible, user-defined active detection zone. Among the important features and options which should be configured are those of motion detection boundaries and sensitivity, video quality, power management and more. There are some notable differences however between configuration options and parameters for the Eufycam 2 Pro as compared to the Eufy Smart Video Doorbell. The security camera configuration lacks the “Notifications” page, which not only provides for app defined notification sounds, but importantly allows the selection of the “initial view” upon opening a smartphone push-notification of motion detection from the camera. The doorbell camera offers either “Live View” or “Recorded Event”. The security camera has no options, and always opens the recorded event that triggered the push-notification. The ability to immediately access the live stream from the phone notification is quite valuable; you can always review the recorded video later, after checking the live camera feed first. The Eufycam 2 Pro configuration does add a few “security” related options for automated actions based on triggering, motion detection events. I particularly like the option to activate recording from both security cameras, when motion has been detected on one. This has the potential to provide a possibly valuable record from a different camera perspective. Eufy claims a full one-year battery life per charge cycle, based on the default, energy conserving “Optimal Battery Life” configuration mode. That is believable, based on the excellent battery performance that I have experienced thus far with the Eufy Smart Video Doorbell. I prefer the more aggressive “Optimal Surveillance” mode, which allows for clip length up to 60 seconds, instead of 20 seconds. There is also a “Customize Recording” selection for even greater flexibility. By design, the camera conserves battery power by “sleeping” until awakened by motion detection or manual viewing through the app. There is a latency interval while the camera awakens for both video and audio, and there are a few seconds of delay for the transmission of the smartphone alert. Electing to view the live camera feed also encounters an additional several seconds of delay. Additionally, there is no pre-recording buffer in the Eufy system, ostensibly to conserve battery power and extend intervals between recharges. The system operates by the cameras transmitting data to the Homebase2 via a private 2.4 GHz connection. 5 GHz Wi-Fi is not supported. Eufy represents utilizing 256 bit AES encryption both in video transmission and storage on the Homebase2. However, it is not clear if videos being streamed or downloaded (to the smartphone) are decrypted on the Eufy servers or at the endpoint by the app on the phone. For true security purposes, the decryption would have to be performed on the user’s smartphone. Bidirectional audio communication is supported between the cameras and the smartphone app, however it experiences a very significant level of latency. As excellent as the Eufycam 2 Pro hardware clearly is, and as excellent as the Eufy Security smartphone app is with its rich feature set, flexibility, functionality and stability, having complete and comprehensive written documentation compiled as an Owner’s Manual would be invaluable. The absence of documentation obliges the user to search through and explore the Eufy Security app without information or explanation for the many features and options. Hopefully, Eufy will add downloadable PDF User Manuals for each of these fine products to their website. The formatted capacity of the 16 GB Homebase 2 is 14.7 GB. The 2k high resolution video files have varied significantly in file size ranging from less than 1 MB to over 13 MB. Of course, the vast majority of the video files are of no retention value, and are easily deleted through the smartphone app. Any video files which have retention value, are easily downloaded from the Homebase 2 to the user’s smartphone for retention, transfer or distribution. Of course, more cameras connected to the Homebase 2 will produce proportionately more video files, whereby the local storage onboard the Homebase 2 could ultimately prove to be inadequate. It would be beneficial for Eufy to implement the ability to augment storage capacity, such as via SD cards; which is currently unavailable and unsupported . The Eufycam 2 Pro security camera is a terrific adjunct to my Eufy Smart Video Doorbell. The 2k video and still imagery are crisp, clear and color accurate. Infrared video captured during hours of darkness is also very sharp and clear, and the IR emitters appear to have good range for illuminating a decent area. The camera specifications and features are impressive, and integration with the Homebase 2 and configuration and utilization with the Eufy smartphone app are all superior. I really like the Eufycam 2 Pro Security Camera System, and I will likely supplement it with additional cameras. It supports integration with other Eufy devices (i.e. doorbell cameras) as well as Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and Apple Homekit. I highly recommend the Eufycam 2 Pro Security Camera System. It is really an excellent performer. Installation and configuration are extremely easy, and wireless devices have the greatest flexibility and ease of physical installation. Another substantial benefit is that the local storage will accommodate a significant quantity of high-resolution, encrypted videos without the need for, or expense of a cloud storage account.

I already had a couple of Eufy inside cameras, but I wanted some to post up outside to watch the front and back yards. Setup was relatively easy; the hardest part was doing the work to drill/mount them into position. Battery life is fairly decent, though, of course, it depends on what kind of settings you choose. I'd say I have to take our front yard cam down maybe once every 3 months to recharge. But I like that it does offer you that kind of customization to select clip length, how long it waits to record again after recording motion, whether it only captures human activity vs. all activity, etc. The corresponding app, which we were already using with the inside cams, is intuitive and mostly uncomplicated, and there is plenty of storage in the main hub. Every once in a while it will pick up a tree's moving shadow during the daytime and pretend it caught a person, but it's not very common and I can just quickly delete that clip. I'd say the biggest downside I've seen in using these is that even though I set up the specific areas using the app that the cameras are supposed to focus on (ignoring the things outside of those defined areas), it still manages to get triggered at night when cars drive by our house, even though the street is not an area we set up to be tracked. My best guess is that lights from the vehicles are shining on things within the areas we are tracking, and since the cameras record all motion at night (not just human), the resulting shadow movement is triggering the cams. It's somewhat annoying, but it also has allowed us to see some clips of weird/suspicious/funny activity that we wouldn't have otherwise seen. Overall, this has been a good purchase, especially since the storage is local and doesn't require any kind of subscription service, which was the main selling point for me.

If you are new to the world of cameras and home protection this is a great set to start with. It was stupid easy and fast to set up. I was worried the battery life would be terrible but its great. I am looking to add more cameras and eufy gear to my current setup. The app is super easy to use and figure out and all my data is locally stored which is something that's hard to find these days. There is no subscription for using the cameras and features. If you want them monitored by a call center/ call 911 automatically there is a cost for that but its very fair in my opinion.
