This steelbook is simply gorgeous! I already had both of these movies on 4K. But, after seeing this steelbook I just had to have it in my collection.

Worst purchase ever! Beautiful art work and awesome steel book release no doubt. I returned it twice first time steel book had dents all over it and to make it worse the 4K discos came out defective! The second time steel book was perfect but unfortunately the batch was bad with the 4K discs on this one. I ended up keeping it due to really liking the art on the steel book but got stuck with only the blu ray discs. Blu ray looks nice enough for me but that’s a bummer I couldn’t get the 4K discs. Maybe it was just this batch I could of returned it but the steel book don’t come around that often so I kept it. I would still recommend it but maybe I just have bad luck on this one.

While the original Evil Dead may not have aged as gracefully as Evil Dead 2 (and nor should that be expected with the original's budget,) and in doing so, has its many shortcuts highlighted in its transfer to 4K, it remains one of those films- heck, maybe the ONLY film- to have inspired generations of filmmakers to attempt to tell their stories on budgets made largely of friends' pocket change (for better, but largely worse,) because it's now that almost extinct creature where this group of friends managed to solve almost every issue said budget created. There remains flaws in the technical department, and some may, in today's climate, eschew THE scene involving a demon possessed amorous tree (recreated in the amazing Alvarez remake,) but Evil Dead never gives you time to linger on budget limitations; a fast, frenetic assault on your senses, equal parts horror and Three Stooges level violence. Evil Dead 2 serves as both remake and sequel- although, despite that proclomation from those involved, it's best to just attack it as a remake (which causes its own issues when consuming Ash vs Evil Dead TV series, as IT uses the original as its continuation, while the 3rd FILM, Army of Darkness, picks up after Evil Dead 2... I prefer to think of them as 2 alternate universes nowadays, each with their own Ash Williams. There's just not enough Bruce Campbell for one world, anyway). And, if sitting through Evil Dead was an assault on your senses, ED2 is D-Day followed by both atomic bomb drops. This isn't Spinal Tap being able to crank it up to "11," this is Sam Raimi blowing by eleven all the way to "21". By the time Bruce Campbell has a meltdown, seeing everything in the cabin laughing along with him, you'll be right there with him. Evil Dead 2 is STILL, almost 4 decades later, arguably Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell's masterpiece, and between both of the included films, you'll see the beginning of so many knockoffs over the next 40 years, they're too many to list, while serving up maybe a handful of worthy "inspired bys". The 4K restoration is amazing, almost too successfully. These are two films almost best served with age and grain found on VHS or directly duped DVDs/ BRDs- in that regard, I'd urge fans to hold onto those old versions in their collection and not use this as a replacment set, but as an addition/ augementation. These movies definitely deserved this kind of love and attention, but think of it as an Evil Dead family trip to a 5 star, all inclusive spa and resort. You're going to have a great time, and you'll want to revisit it when possible, but home is where the heart is; home comes with every scribble on the wall from your youngest, scratches in the baseboards from moving furniture in, and that one closet that's always just a little too dark, no matter what bulb you pop in, and in these Evil Dead films, home has all that in those untouched transfers. As far as extras, the original Evil Dead is going to leave you wanting, having only audio commentary- which I have yet to listen to, but lists it as "Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert, and Bruce Campbell". Interestingly enough, the old Anchor Bay DVD has 2 audio commentaries listed, with Bruce Campbell being a separate listing from Raimi and Tapert. Unsure if they've been combined, if this 4K has 2 tracks like the DVD, or if this is newly recorded commentary... But, that's it. The Anchor Bay DVD offers more, with the highlight being an outtakes and bloopers reel, although there's posters, TV spots, and a couple other lower desired extras. The shame is the lost of the outtakes/ bloopers. On Evil Dead 2 however, things fare better- surprisingly, outside one of the old Playstation 2 Evil Dead video game previews, it appears all the Anchor Bay extras have been ported over to this Lionsgate release, but a handful of Lionsgate's standard blu ray of ED2 have been removed, replaced, or renamed... quite a few, actually. Still, there appears to be extras here either new or renamed from the old blu ray release, and the extras are plentiful enough for ED2 that they're split between the 4K disc and the included blu ray. So, again, maybe hang on to any old copies you may have for this reason, as well. All in all, die hard Evil Dead fans absolutely should own this but, by nature, neither film lends itself to "being its best" in the high detail 4K UHD offers. It is, much like a real "Deadite" may be, both a beautiful & ugly creature at the same time. Perhaps not how you want to see it at all times, but even at its worst, its still shockingly gorgeous and you won't pull your eyes away. Lastly, this is a beautiful steelbook, as is with most of these Best Buy exclusives. I often "front face" these steelbooks for display, and picking which side of this steelbook to show off is difficult.

Even though both films included here have had a SteelBook releases each, the first one a wide non exclusive release through Anchor Bay Entertainment and the second one having an exclusive to FYE SteelBook release, this would be the first time the films got a SteelBook including the 4K discs. All previously supplements are included with the exception of the Bonus DVD that the first Anchor Bay Entertainment release of the first film had. This release also includes a plastic slipcover that protects the case. A digital copy for both films is included which redeems in 4K in some of the streaming providers. Highly recommended for all Evil Dead and SteelBook fans out there, it is unfortunate the print run was low, but most likely it will rise again!

Some of the best artwork of any steelbook released

This is the premiere steelbook that Best Buy released in 2020. The artwork is phenomenal in both the front and back. It also comes with a plastic slipcover to offer extra protection, which is something that Best Buy will hopefully begin to implement for all of its steelbook releases. Both films look great in 4k, and as a bonus, this includes digital copies of Evil Dead 1 and 2. The only negative about this release is that it didn't include Army of Darkness. Hopefully, that will get a separate release.

This is a really great looking steelbook made even nicer with a transparent slipcover. It's like an extra step nicer than most normal steelbooks, which I can often just take or leave. The designs on this one and Halloween are fantastic though and I hope Lionsgate puts out some more for their horror catalogue movies. This includes four discs - a UHD and blu-ray disc for each movie. The 4Ks look and sound great and they are the same as the solo edition UHDs. There is one minor thing that could have made this perfect. Best Buy had a blu-ray edition of the first Evil Dead with a bonus DVD disc with documentaries and other great content. That's long been out of print and was too limited as a Best Buy exclusive (hmmm. same as this edition, I guess). It would have been perfect and amazing if that bonus disc could be included here, as the Evil Dead discs don't have much bonus content aside from the commentary track. Aside from that, as far as packaging and video/audio quality, this set is fannntastic.

This is a really great Steelbook and I'm glad it came back in stock. My only complaint is that the version of The Evil Dead (first one) that's in this package is one where there are some revisions that have been made after the fact. Examples are the moon in one scene and editing out a person from behind a bridge. These edits look sloppy in the way the Star Wars trilogy does with the Special Edition edits. If this came with the original cut, that would make it an easy 10/5 stars.

Classic Sam Raini films in 4k

Great Double Feature release of the Classic pair of films directed by Sam Raini in the 1980's. These both have evolved as classics, often turning up around Halloween Time in editions made in recent years. Very nice to have both of Raini's movies here. Raini's 2nd made in 1988 is especially fine for fans of camp films. Great to have this released by Lionsgate, and Thanks to Best Buy for stocking and delivering in fine condition.

This steelbook makes for the 4th or 5th copy i own of these films, so I guess you could say I love them lol. Presented in this gorgeous steelbook you get both films in brilliant 4k and bluray. This release is awesome with one of the coolest covers I've seen on a steelbook in awhile. You have to grab this for the bargain of getting both the first and second film in one case alone!

I already own both of these titles on steelbook, but I only bought this one not for the 4K but for the first two films being combined in a single steelbook. I like the way the front and back represents each movie. I just wish it was reversed with 'Evil dead" on the front and "Evil dead 2" on the back. They probably did this so they could use Bruce Campbell on the front to promote it.

The Evil Dead movies are absolute Halloween classics. Schlocky and gory in all the best ways, they really pop on 4K, even if some of the effects are a little dated (they still hold up surprisingly well, though, and add to the charm). The steelbook is beautiful, and comes in a wonderful clear sleeve for protection. This release is a must-have for any fans of the genre.

This set of Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2 is amazing. The artwork is gorgeous and each disc has its own place to sit inside the set! (YAY no stacked discs). I love that it comes with a clear plastic slipcover with all the info and titles so that the actual steelbook is just the amazing art!

Excellent steelbook with great art all around! Even comes with a transparent slipcover which helps minimize fingerprints on the glossy exterior of the steelbook. I'm glad they provide both blu-ray discs and all their bonus content, in addition to the 4K discs (so that's 4 discs total). This one was hard to track down, so good luck finding it.

This review is purely on the steelbook casing itself. The 4k Transfers have been out for some time and reviewed by many others. The selling point of this particular edition is the Excellent Best Buy Exclusive steelbook casing. If they decided to utilize this style of steelbook more, it'd be well received.
