The Sony 85mm f/1.8 is one of those lenses that just makes photography feel easy. It’s lightweight, super sharp, and the autofocus is fast without ever getting in the way. What surprised me most is how beautifully it handles portraits — the background melts away with smooth bokeh, and skin tones look clean and natural. It doesn’t try to be flashy, but it delivers consistently great results every time I pick it up. For the price, it feels like a lens that punches way above its weight. If you love portraits or want a reliable telephoto prime for your Sony system, this one is hard to beat.

What can I say? This is hands down the best of the best when it comes to “budget full-frame lenses”. This lens has 100% professional grade optics, Sony is just literally flexing with their extreme attention to quality whilst choosing the elements and their orientation when designing this budget lens. The 85mm to me, is a must have focal length in any kit for both video and photos..if you love super fast autofocus, tack sharp pixels, and most importantly the creamiest, buttery bokeh you can find on a sub $600 lens... Well then you my friend, Need to stop searching and SLAM that ever so attractive and devilishly shy, school bus yellow “Add to Cart” button and thank me later when you get compliments left and right on your workflow and how beautifully the ultra compressed depth of field that you managed to capture looks... This lens is sharp. The bokeh effect is pretty darn good. This is my favorite portrait lens so far and the price is not bad. I’m using this on my A6500.

I tried using my alpha mount 85mm 1.4 lens with an alpha to e mount converter on my Sony a7riii, but did not like the loss of functionality. I wasn’t willing to spend the additional $1000 for an e mount 85mm 1.4 and am so glad I chose to save the money and purchased the 85mm 1.8 instead. This lens shoots beautiful images with soft creamy bokeh. Great Portrait lens.

Great, sharp lens. You'd be hard pressed to tell the difference in photo quality between this guy and it's more expensive big brothers (Batis and Gmaster). This lens is less expensive because there's no weather sealing and it lacks a stabilizer or digital readout. Other than that, no short comings.

This is a beautiful budget lens for 85mm with smooth bokeh. Definitely very close to a professional lens!

I bought this less to replace my 50mm since it wasn’t a full frame lens. I used it on a photo shoot doing some portraits. The picture came out amazing, the boca really made the picture pop. My clients were extremely happy with the pictures. I would definitely recommend this lens to anyone trying to add to the collection, or to anyone needing a great portrait lens.

When you compare it to the G Masters price you think that is going to suck, but let me tell you hey sing amazing len, look for reviews In YouTube, do your own search You definitely do not want to pass on this one.

This lens is not cheap, but for the size and weight, stunning optics and quality why would you pay more for Zeiss glass or Sony GM glass. This lens is worth at least $300 more than I paid . Thank you Sony and Best Buy.

This lens is Great!!! It produces images that are tack sharp, it's fast, and the color will blow you away. I wish Sony would produce more lenses this good at this price point. Don't think twice.. this lens is worth every penny.

As a new photographer, I did quite a bit of research about what portrait lens to invest in and while the 50mm is the most widely regarded – this consistently came up as a favorite among photographers, and I'm happy to share that it was a great option for me. If you shoot outdoors portraits or in large spaces, this is the lens for you. Beware this lens is pretty expensive, so do your research to determine which focal length is going to work best for you.

Purchased this for my A6500. I’d have to say this is my favorite lens for portrait photography. Crisp photos, focusing is silent, love the AF/MF switch, and worth it for the price.
