    Excellent lens for the value

Recently purchased my a7ii and have seen this lens for pre-order for a couple months now. Decided to pull the trigger and could not be any happier with this lens. Images are very sharp corner to corner and bokeh is smooth. The AF motor on this is quiet and quick. Build quality feels solid and does have some weight to it. The lens DOES have some cat eye with bokeh near edges of the photos, but it does not bug me personally as it adds to the character just a bit. Great alternative for the price point in comparison to the G Master 85mm 1.4, or the Zeiss Batis 85mm 1.8.

Truly the best bang for your buck in the entire Sony FE lineup. This lens is extremely sharp and the bokeh is beautiful. It’s light weight and compact. An all around beautiful lens! Must have for any Sony shooter out there!!

This lens is so good for price. I use this lens with my a7 and a6300. With a6300 focus is fast using eye AF and assign focus lock button on the lens. But on my a7 just work as focus lock only. I think this lens produce good enough: sharp, nice bokeh, good color rendition, I haven't see CA, silent focus, fast focus. It takes good photos especially with a7 but not like my 135mm f2.

this is my go-to for all my photos when possible. its very sharp and the bokeh is great! had not too much weight to it. From my research this is one of sony's best lenses outside of the GM series. so I couldn't beat the price. much bang for the buck.

One of the best lenses for Sony full frame. No question. For the value the bokeh and sharpness are on par with the Zeiss equivalent making this a must buy. Not to mention that the 85mm focal length is one of best lengths period. In short, this is an incredible lens for headshots, street portraits, and people but again, there is no limit to what you can do. Just save up get this lens and stick with it for as long as you want, it’s basically the lens equivalent of the a7iii, incredible performance and price, bar none.

My favorite E Mount Portrait Lens So Far

I have mostly been adapting lenses for use with the Sony APS-C line of cameras and with my purchase of the A7 III wanted to get into quality E Mount glass. Exceeds my expectations. Very sharp. Great color reproduction. Great bokeh if you care about that (almost no one actually does.) Eye AF and great autofocus in a lightweight package.

I got this lens first when I bought my A7rii. Don't take my word for it, go on youtube and check out some reviews. It's been an amazing lens. I tested it back to back to back with the Battis 85mm f1.8 and the G master f1.4. The f1.4 is clearly better but its hard to tell any difference even pixel peeking between the Zeiss Battis and this Sony 85mm.

As a portrait photographer this lens is almost a must have. It's sharp and the functions work flawless with the A7II. The custom button on the side is handy. The size and weight also goes perfectly with the sony mirrorless camera. I would definitely buy this again.

The 1.8 aperture does a great job of separating the subject and the background. Bigger than a standard lens but smaller than the GM and lightweight too. Used for a couple of shoots and it always did the job great lens for the price.

Unlike the F1.8/50 which was an okay lens, the 85mm was money. It is sharp and perfect lens for portraits in an affordable price. The G-master or Zeiss version is almost 1k more. You do get some electronic features on the upgraded one, but is it worth the money?

This lens is one of the 'Must haves' for the focal length for anyone that wants to take portraits. The quality is superb and the auto-focus is lighting fast. Family have on occasion used the lens for low light sport photography since the sharpness allows them to crop and get a cleaner image than a telephoto would offer at the same shutter speed when compensating with a higher ISO. It's a bit expensive if you pay the usual price but it goes on sale pretty frequently.

I waited for a while before getting and it, and I am upset with myself. It is my favorite new lens. I love the depth of field and pretty bokeh that it gives me. I wanted a Zeiss with the same 85mm f/1.8 but at half the price it allowed me to get another lens. Some minimal breathing as i use a A6000 but the pictures are sharp detailed and crisp. Everyone needs this in their arsenal, it is very well worth the price.
