Bought this filter to check out the Bluetooth. I think it is a waste of money as there are cheaper options out there. My Nest thermostat already informs me for a filter change

I had used this for a couple of weeks, but I was very impressed by this filter. It has a built in sensor that predicts how much life the filter has left before needing to be changed. There is an app, in my case using the Android version. The app was easy to install and had no problems seeing the sensor on the filter. It uses Bluetooth to communicate with the filter and the app will receive periodical updates, as well as indicate the outdoor air quality. I would still be using this filter, but I have an HVAC system that's fairly old (24 years) and the excellent filtration on this made my system work a little too hard. Don't let this dissuade you, this is a quality product and works well in most setups. I would buy another if my circumstances allowed it.

With or without the ‘Smart’ aspect of this Filtrete Smart Air Filter, it is still one of the more complete furnace filters on the market. This filter claims to reduce allergens, bacteria and viruses. The fact that it uses an app to monitor the life of the filter is a bonus. The app informs you of the life of your filter in percentages. This will be helpful in preventing you from changing a filter too soon, or too late. I’m pretty certain that I change my filters before they completely expire, due to the fact I have respiratory issues and I’d rather be safe than sorry. This smart filter will give me the peace of mind knowing that it’s either still viable, or that it’s time to change it. Since the sensor slightly protrudes from the filter, I had doubts about getting it to fit in its slot, but it installed with no issues. The app gives you a somewhat useful amount of information, such as: the current life of the filter; air quality levels; tips and alerts; and change reminders. I only gave it four stars because it’s too soon to gauge its efficacy over the long haul. And I can’t know for sure how accurate the life monitoring feature will be. But, I usually buy the higher quality filters to help improve the air quality in my home, and Filtrete is the brand I usually buy, so this wasn’t much of a gamble for me. I like this filter because now I’ll know I won’t be replacing an expensive filter before it’s actually time to do so.

So this might seem like a niche product. A smart air filter? However, EVERYONE needs air filters. Perhaps even more so during pandemics and fires. Beyond being a piece of tech, this filter is a GOOD filter. It has good filtration with the MPR of 1500. It also has good low flow resistance meaning it does not restrict airflow. Next is when the tech part of it comes in. With the app, you can track the filter life and plan for replacements. I am not going to lie, remembering to replace air filters was really low on my list of priorities, but with the app I can see when I have to. It's air your family, friends, and yourself will breathe. Might as well make sure you monitor it!

When I first heard about this filter I was like, what?! An air filter that uses an app and connects to your phone via Bluetooth? No. Yep! There’s a sensor on the filter itself, that once you download the Filtrete Smart App, allows you monitor outdoor air quality and track the life of your filter via the app. It’s amazing to me, all the advances in technology we see everyday, even for something like this, a household air filter! As my husband and I have recently found out, the air filters you choose for your home, does matter - depending on the type of heating and air conditioning unit you have, and what pollutants you want the filter to filter out. It’s also important to remember to change your system’s air filters regularly, and this Filtrete 1500 Smart Air Filter (by 3M) can help take the guess work out of this for you, thereby saving you money. And you’ll save energy too, with better overall air filtration so that your heating and air conditioning system will work at its more optimal levels.

First, the filter is the filter and it works well to filter the air in your home. I use Filtrete filters regularly as they seem to work the best in terms of keeping dust/allergens and smells under control. I was skeptical of the real benefit of this system at first but having had it in the system for a couple weeks I can honestly say it could save you some money in replacing the filter when you need to vs. just based on a timer which my Thermostat already does. The addition of the Bluetooth sensor is awesome and does seem to better track the actual use of the filter vs. just being a timer that's set and you replace the filter. The whole process of setting it up is just as easy as downloading the app, following a few simple setup and pairing steps once that's done you then install the filter as you would any other filter. The only thing that would be better is if 3M/Filtrete could partner with Thermostat Vendors like Nest and Honeywell to come up with a product just like this that pairs to the Thermostat to intelligently monitor the airflow/temperatures, air quality, and usage.

Let me start off by saying that although this has been really cool to use and informative in terms of data collection and viewing, I personally find this to be not a necessity even after using it for awhile now. But that doesn’t mean it’s not a great product for what it’s able to do and do successfully too. It’s just, if you just want to change your air filter and call it a day, and don’t really care about tracking air quality, you’ll be fine with a regular one. I’m not a master at air filters, I simply always just replace an old one, just like any other air filter I replace like a car air filter. And I look at the quality of it based on time and how it visibly looks. If it’s a dark color I know it likely needs to be changed. Smart filters are the future, and it’s really cool to see data. Information is power. If pricing can be lower and standardized in the future, I think smart filters are the future.

I received this product in exchange for my fair and unbiased opinion. I’m also using the 16x20x1 model. The 3M Filtrete Allergen, Bacteria, and Virus Smart Filter would be among the best filters you could buy without the Bluetooth connectivity that allows you to monitor your filter. But since people love Bluetooth, 3M said “Why not?” and now we have a smart filter. I won’t bore you with the details of how the conventional part of the filter works; let’s just leave it at “it’s good.” Instead, let’s talk about the smart functionality. The magic sauce that makes the filter work is a sensor on the air handler (aka furnace or blower) side of the filter. I don’t know if the sensor works via barometric pressure sensing or if it determines filter life by how long the air handler runs, but it’s fairly accurate on gauging filter life. After 2 weeks of the filter installed, there is a slight greying of the return duct side of the filter but nothing I’d consider out of the ordinary. According to the sensor, my filter is at 92% life; I think it’s closer to about 75% life left, however, as the traditional filters I’ve used would be the same color after a week. How do you read the sensor? You download the Filtrete Smart app, set up an account with your email, then pair the filter in-app (completely painless on iPhone). You also open the app to get updates on estimated filter life and your air quality. So is there a drawback to this product? Of course. 3M had a real chance to either make a reusable filter sensor or create a recycling program for the sensor, and passed on both opportunities. Because of this, you’ll see end users tossing out a small coin cell battery and some electronics every month or so. I think this is a huge oversight on 3M’s part. So would I buy this filter again? Probably. It seems to have a long life and works as advertised. I just wish 3M would have thought about the environment when it comes to disposal.

Simply download the Filtrete app from the Google Play or Apple Store, pair the app with the filter, and you are ready to monitor the filter condition. If you are like me, you try to replace filters on a periodic basis but after forget. With the Smart Filter, you can monitor the app and replace the filter when necessary. The filter claims to filter allergans, bacteria, and viruses. This seems particularly important now.

This air filter is one of the best. The first thing that catches my attention is that it is allergen bacteria and virus catching. The next thing that catches your attention is it's tough on unwanted particles easy on air flow, I have seen some that will just block everything. The Bluetooth feature and the filtrate smart app plus sensor that they advertise on the box is amazing. In conjunction with my smart carbon monoxide detector and my smart thermostat I can have the perfect breathable home. If you don't have one of these, get one now. Simple as that.

First of all this is a great filter. We got this just around the time the California fires were raging and the air quality around us was poor for multiple weeks. The old filter was doing its job, but was getting old in the tooth, and once we put this in, inside the house you could barely feel anything. So straight off the mark, this gets great scores for its main purpose. Now, what's so smart about it - its supposed to tell you the outside air quality (presumably from a server off the internet), inside air quality and the life left on the filter. I realize nowadays every dumb product has a smart version, some are innovative and give new life to the product, while others are tagged on features which you could do without or had your needs already met via other measures. This definitely falls in the latter bucket. There is nothing wrong with the it, just that you don't feel you are getting a lot out of the smart feature. Given my nagging, its not like they are pricing this at too high a price either, compared to a normal filter. So, I say why not. The setup is pretty easy, and even if you are not obsessively checking your indoor air quality, it will atleast remind you automatically when to change your filter, given how much use it has gone through. Which is great, because otherwise all you would go by is the number of months its been used. Now the app, is hopefully tracking not from the install date, but the exact number of hours the filter was in use.

The Filtrete Smart Air Filter is a great way to know the quality of the air in your home. Setup was extremely easy and the app is very user friendly and works extremely well. Most people forget to check their air filter or have no idea when it’s time to change. You can check when it’s time to change your filter via the app. It definitely takes the guess work of knowing when to change your air filter. It’s definitely worth it.

Being home during this time of fires and smoke has been very stressful. Not only that, my son and wife have serious reactions to the smoke and allergens in the air. We need to feel assurance that our home is safe from the harsh air these days, which is why I was very glad that this Filtrete Allergen Bacteria & Virus Air Filter has put mind at ease knowing that it is filtering out all of the unwanted particles in our home. The installation was very easy and I was so glad that it was the right size in our ac unit. Upon removing our previous filter, it was covered in gray particles and was only under 3 months. Please be sure to measure the size of your filters, these cannot be cut to fit as the integrity of the entire filter is on the cardboard edges. Thankfully this is 16x20x1 and fit perfectly in our unit. Overall, we are thankful that we can be assure that this filter is capturing the dust, bacteria, viruses and allergens in our home’s air system. I only wish they came in a multi pack instead of a stand alone.
