I use several room air filters in our home in various rooms. We have a cat so we like to keep the air as clean as possible. The Filtrete Room Air Purifier is a nice addition. This is not a large machine, it's a small table top size which makes it perfect for bedrooms and small offices. We didn't want a large machine in rooms like these and this one is very unobtrusive and if you didn't know it was there, you might miss it. It comes with one filter. This one is a Filtrete allergen reduction filter. It's the most basic filter and it removes airborne allergen particles from a variety of sources. They offer two additional filters if you find you want additional air scrubbing. One is for allergen and smoke removal, the other one is an advanced allergen bacteria and virus HEPA filter. The small size is good for up to 80 square feet, which is a pretty small room. The controls are very basic, really only one slide switch for speed control. While this type of switch works well on something like this, they tend to feel a bit on the cheap side. You have your choice of low, medium, high or off for settings. The low setting blends into background noise and I think it's good for general continuous cleaning. The medium is still pretty quiet but it ramps up considerably more. You will definitely know it's “on” when using this setting. The high setting is quite noisy. Not only does the blower spin way up to create a lot of air noise, it also has somewhat of a vibration that's quite noticeable. I think this is just a by product of the plastic housing, and I can't see using this setting unless I'm trying to move a lot of air through the filter, so for short periods, it's probably fine. Filter replacement is very easy, just pull the plastic panel off at the back. The filter just sits right behind it so there are no crazy clips to mess with or channels to try and slide the filter into. Just pull it out and pop the new one in. Takes literally 15 seconds. There is a change filter indicator that will turn on when the life remaining on the filter is down to 10%. This is a handy feature, and it's nice to have an indication of when to change it. Next to the indicator is a reset button. Use this after replacing the filter to reset the sensor. Using indoor air filters gives a person good peace of mind. Especially if you use it as it's intended and keep the filter up to date. Measuring the actual effectiveness is not something that's easily done without some type of air quality monitor (which I don't have), so I can only claim that the filter does seem to be working great. I believe as long as it's on, it's filtering, and that's a good thing. The size is great for small rooms and the basic features are more than enough. A competent air filter in a small package that looks nice.

Household filters are becoming more popular and this is great for a small room/area or addition to other household filtering. It is also great for your office or work desk. I am currently using this at my bed side to help with filtering my breathing air at night. I started sleeping with an air filter in the bedroom a year ago and it has significantly improved my health as I feel I don’t feel as sick as often and rarely get a stuffy nose. This filtrete filter is great as it is much smaller than my whole room air purifier and much more quiet. At the first setting I can barely even tell it’s on. I usually sleep with the 2nd speed on as it is able to pump more air out without being loud. The third setting is high speed and is too loud for me to sleep with. I would use the third setting for during the day during cleaning or when it’s needed in the room. The biggest perk to me with this filtrete is the ability to choose three different filters. It come equipped with the allergen reduction filter but you can also buy a allergen plus order reduction filter or the advanced allergen, bacteria and virus (true hepa) filter. I will be purchasing the advanced allergen filter when it comes time to change the current filter. I do wish it came with this advanced filter. Finally this does have a change filter light/reset button right on top of the machine. It will illuminate once it comes time to change the filter. I’m not sure if the filter timer resets if is unplugged or the power goes out (time will tell for this). Great filter and machine.

I received the Filtrete Room Air Purifier and was very surprised by the quality and of this small room purifier. It is a very simple unit with a combination power fan switch with three fan speeds. You have the option to use different types of filters to filter out allergens, odors and viruses. The unit has a light to alert you when to change the filter. The FY22 3M Filtrete Room Air Purifier works well for a bedroom or den.

Ran for about 5 days in a small office and did help clean the air as it pulled some dust out of the air, however while quiet on the first two of three fan settings, the unit grew louder after a couple of days. If you want silent, this is not for you.

This air purifier was bigger than I had expected, so check the dimensions if you're planning to put it on a night stand. The rough measurements are 12"x8.5"x6". It sort of has the look of an old school large clock radio, but the front is just a blank. The design is pretty simple: power cord on the back where the air filter and air intake is, purified air comes out the top and there's an on/off slide switch with three speed level settings on the top. There seems to be very little speed difference between levels 1 and 2, but both speeds are very quiet and send out a trickle of air. When you set it to 3, however, it's a different story. You get a lot of air flow, but it's also quite noisy. Measuring the noise level in my room standing in front of the air purifier, level 1 didn't make any change in the ambient level of about 44dB. Level 2 maybe moved it up a couple dB to the 46-47dB range. Level 3 jumped it up to 70dB. It uses "size A/D/H" filters and Filtrete says there are three filter options: True HEPA Allergen reduction + odor defense Allergen reduction It comes with the allergen reduction, but there's a strange note in the manual. It says the included filter uses a cardboard frame, but all of the replacements use a plastic frame with adhesive strips to help keep the filter in place in the device. I have not noticed any problems with the cardboard frame staying in place, so I'm not sure why they would need plastic and adhesive. After a quick search, it looks like you can get replacement HEPA filters for about $50 for 4-pack which doesn't seem too bad. You can also get a Filtrete cut-to-fit carbon pre-filter that may fit between the filter and the retaining grill if you wanted the carbon filtration for not too much extra cost. The instructions say if you run the machine 24/7 the filter will last 3 months. Or, if you only run it 6 hours/day, it should last a year.

it works great in small rooms. I usually eat in my room and depending on what I eat the smell can linger a bit. I had Chinese food with this on and to my surprise the smell went away quickly and did not linger around. it is simple to use. I like that it vents from back and then out on the top. why 4 stars. I just wished it had a remote with it. or Bluetooth or something so you can use phone to turn on and off etc. other than that, for the price it's a great air purifier to have. if you have a small room, area then I do recommend this product.

Nice Small Purifier But a Little Noisy

The Filtrete 80 Qs. Ft. True HEPA Purifier is a nice machine for a small space like a bedroom or office. It fits nicely on a desk but maybe a little too large for a nightstand. Overall the purifier is easy to control. A switch adjusts the airspeed with level 1 and 2 being somewhat similar and semi-quiet. Level 3 is a fair amount louder than the other settings. My machine has a little clicky noise that occurs every once in a while (if it gets bad, I'll contact support). Level 1 or 2 seems good for every day use. The machine comes with the basic filter (there are three levels of filters). Would have been nice to include a more advanced filter with the unit, but for the price-point, the lower filter makes sense. Overall, a very basic air purifier that fits a small room size well.

This is really a simple & easy air purifier that is perfect for the bedroom. There really is no setup. Take it out of the box and plug it in. It has three speeds. The lowest setting is almost silent. The next two are more noticeable but by no means loud. The unit is about the size of a VCR player (for those who remember them :-) ). With a dog & two cats who insist on sleeping in the bedroom with us, this is the perfect purifier to help the air. It's advertised as being for a small room and it really is. I wouldn't bother using it in an average living room area. But if you are looking for a simple to use air purifier good for one room, this works great and couldn't be easier to use.

Upon opening the box, I found this plain, unassuming black plastic box. It is a very simple design and perfect for blending in to the background. We use this in the guest room and it does a great job of keeping the air fresh and circulated. It has 3 speeds. It is pretty quiet on I and II, but III can be a little noisy if you are trying to fall asleep. There is a filter replacement indicator and a variety of filter options available for purchase. Overall, my wife and I are quite happy with this unit and have no problem giving it 5 stars.

    Small but Does the Job

Filtrete and 3M are brands I am well familiar with, and use their products in my home everyday. This air purifier is just the right size for a small room. It runs quiet, is lightweight, has 3 air flow speeds, and its stylish glossy black plastic front panel makes it relatively unobtrusive in any room. Air flows out the top, and there is a filter change reminder light next to the reset button that you would press after you've changed the filter. But of course, there's an app. Installing the Filtrete Smart App on your mobile device gives you another way to remind you when it's time to change the air filter, but also, lets you order and purchance replacement filters directly from the app for convenience. But in all honesty, unless you have other Filtrete Smart Filters for your home, you can use this air purifier without the app, just fine. Changing the filter is easy, and there are three replacement options - basic Allergen Reduction, Allergen + Odor Reduction, and Advanced Allergen Bacteria & Virus filters. Filters last approximately 6 months. It's really hard to tell how much, if any, the air quality in my room has improved. I suppose once the 6 months are up, and the filter is due to be changed out, I'll then be able to see the condition of the filter and what appears to have been filtered out of the air in my room.

I got this little 3M air purifier a couple of days ago and we really like it. It’s a pretty basic model with just 3 speeds and an indicator to remind you to change the filter. It feels decently built and has a clean aesthetic to it. Now as for how well it performs. In regards to the noise it generates, I would say it’s pretty typical for a device of this nature. Very quiet on the lower speeds. On high it's a bit loud as I can hear the motor a little as well as the moving air. The quality of the air filter is very solid. I placed it by my fireplace to deal with some extra stinky wood we have this year. It’s working like a champ! I’m sure that for a small room (it’s suggested for rooms up to 80sq/ft) it would work very well. All in all I am quite impressed with this little guy. If they were looking for something small in this price range, I would absolutely recommend this to a friend.

    Basic purifier from reputable company

As someone without the capabilities or know how to test the actual performance of an air purifier, I can only give my anecdotal opinion and comment on using it. This is a basic, no frills air purifier intended to capture smoke, bacteria, viruses, and dust. This sized air purifier is best intended for a small apartment or bedroom or office (where I use mine).. Inside the box is simply the air purifier. The filter comes preinstalled, and the AC power cord is built into it. Setting up is as simple as plugging it into the wall and switching the power switch on. The device itself is neither sexy (like the more expensive Molekule brand) nor is it ugly. It’s very utilitarian. It won’t stand out which is a good thing. It doesn’t necessarily blend into my room, but it’s not obtrusive and you simply forget it’s there. The size is similar to a gaming console or even a taller VCR. It’s super light. For better or worse, this is not a smart air purifier. Frankly, I don’t like having an app for every single smart home device and for something so basic that doesn’t require monitoring (unlike security cameras) to me that’s a good thing. One less thing taking up bandwidth or having to set up on my phone. The downside is you don’t necessarily know when to change the filter, unless you’re looking at it. It has a light on the top that lights up when it’s time to change the filter, but you obviously have to look at it to notice. The changing of the filter light isn’t triggered by use, but as you imagine by time. It comes on after 6 months’ time. In terms of performance, as I said, I can’t really test it. But I can say that it seems like my office smells better. It’s not as if my office had a bad smell, and this could very well be in my head, but the air “smells cleaner.” There are three fan speeds. I have to say, the medium and high settings create a lot of noise. The fan is loud in a quiet office. I can still hear it at lower speeds, but it sounds more like white noise and blends in. The higher settings, in my opinion, are distracting. But I can see this being a nice white noise to fall asleep to (if that’s your thing) or, if it’s in a small room with a TV where people hang out, I don’t see it being distracting. To be clear, it’s not an outrageously loud noise, even on the highest setting, and maybe it wouldn’t bother you, but if it’s in a quiet room it is noticeable. Last, the filters. If you are looking to buying an air purifier you do have to give some consideration into filters. Otherwise, what’s the point? I’m not yet in need of replacement filters, but I did look into them. By way of example, I have a large Molekule air purifier. It has an extremely high initial cost, and the filters aren’t really cheap either. They recommend replacing them twice a year (like the 3M model) and they cost about $60 to replace them once. So that’s $120 a year. Not cheap. The 3M model, however, has inexpensive filters. They are, however, difficult to locate (if you don’t know where to look). I looked on the 3M website and you couldn’t purchase them there. It was in the comments of the product that a company representative said they were sold at Wal-Mart. The replacement filters are A/D/H filters. Wal-Mart sells a few different versions, where one is for odor reduction and another is for allergens and mold. Assuming you have faith that these work as advertised, it’s nice to have those options to fit your needs. The replacement filters are approximately $18 each or $32 for a 2 pack. Both of which are extremely reasonable in my book, especially when compared to the cost of a Molekule filter. In sum, so long as you take it’s performance at face value, this is a terrific value for an air purifier with relatively low maintenance costs (filters). It’s small and light enough that you can put it almost anywhere (near an outlet of course) and does a decent job of hiding in your room. It can get loud on higher settings, but not so loud so as to being a reason not to buy it.

It’s an air purifier. Very easy to take apart with typical plastic components. Very simple operation with a single slider control to turn off and choose fan strength. At the max setting to move air, it was still not too loud. Actually works well as a white noise machine for my kid’s room where we put it. Have definitely noticed an immediate improvement in his nose stuffiness after implementing the filter. Some possible improvements would be a sensor to automatically adjust fan speed based on air quality, but that would obviously increase the price point of the purifier. For a simple to use, straightforward purifier for a small room space, this is perfectly functional.

My airborne allergies have gotten worse over the years. Recently I changed the whole House filters I've been using which seemed to make a difference. I thought I would try a room.Air cleaner To help a little bit further. I tried out the 3M filtrate brand air cleaner as I was familiar with the name from the filters I've gotten for my house. Unfortunately, it seems that the air cleaner is not as good as the air filters. I plugged it in in my bedroom and used it for a few days. There was no difference after using the air cleaner as compared to just the whole house system. I also have a large room air cleaner from BluAir. That runs on my main level and seems to improve the air quality there. When I looked into it further, It seems that BlueAir’s cleaner uses a HEPA filter that captures bacteria and smaller particles than the filter which ships with the 3M air cleaner. Little surprised to see that the 3M air cleaner has a HEPA filter which can be used, but does not ship with the air cleaner to begin with. I don’t understand why 3M wouldn’t want to start their customers off with the best, then allow them to downgrade if that’s not desired. Instead, I’m left with a bad taste in my mouth (or really additional stuffiness in my nose). I have to purchase a new filter, then wait for it to arrive, just to see if this will help me or not. On the positive side, from air cleaner is relatively quiet and did not wake dyingmy wife or I during the night. It's also small and unobtrusive. It fit easily in a corner. Another nice feature is it blows the air up instead of out, allowing for more flexible placement. While the aesthetics are good, it's hard to recommend something whose function does not.meet the basic promise.

As someone with the trifecta of allergies, pets, and carpet, my home is filled with air purifiers. Unfortunately, most of the best filters tend to take up a lot of floor space. This compact option from 3M turned out to be the perfect solution for the second bedroom in my home. It fits neatly beneath a nightstand, offers top tier filtration (with three different options, depending on what you want to target), and keeps the noise levels to a minimum. Getting it out of the box and into place took less than five minutes. Once I'd gotten the cable routed to protect it from the curiosity of the cat, I turned it on full to let it run for a few minutes to clear the air. It moved a fairly impressive volume of air at this speed, though unfortunately it was pretty far from what I'd describe as quiet. Once I was satisfied however I ramped it down to the low speed, at which it's close to silent and shouldn't represent a noticeable issue for anyone trying to sleep or work in close proximity. After that it took about a day before I started noticing a difference in my allergy symptoms. Admittedly it was a somewhat slight one - however when it's something you're living with constantly even slight differences can add up fast. Given the limited air capacity I certainly wouldn't want to push it much past the 80 square foot volume recommended, but as small air filters go it seems very capable.
