Filtrete Advanced Under Sink Water Filtration System 3US-PS01 - White Summary: A 3M water under-sink water filtration unit that "removes parasitic cysts, reduces chlorine taste and odor, and more." Pros: * Great price point. I didn't realize these units were as inexpensive as they are. * Easy to install. The box shows 3 [major] steps, but there really is more like 6 if you want to break the thing down nicely. Each step takes a few minutes. * Great taste^. See "Use" notes below. Cons: * Instructions. I've done some home plumbing as a DIY'er. The instructions worked fine for me. However, I think someone who isn't so inclined might have been a little daunted. Some patience and a review of parts and instructions will get the job done. The trick would be to lay everything out. Identify all components. Lay them out in relation to how they will be installed and then take it one step at a time. Use: My family drinks lots of water and we consume a lot of ice. We use water and ice from our fridge, but sometimes it's not convenient to do so for larger amounts like pitchers, pots, or when the fridge is in use by someone else (doors open prevent dispensing for safety). We have a separate nugget ice maker for this reason. All that was missing was filtered water out of the tap. I attached this unit to the cold water line on my kitchen faucet. Any quick rinses we do on dishes happen with hot water, and the dishwasher does it's own thing, so it made sense for us to just put it there. It is convenient, close to the stove, and makes filling glasses, pitchers, pots, etc much faster than from the refrigerator. Note: The pictures show a plastic bin under the sink. I had that placed along with a few towels nearby in case I noticed something wrong. While running the faucet (cold) for 10 minutes I did notice water running down one line. I turned off the water, stopped the faucet, and tightened the appropriate fitting, and ran the water for another 10 minutes. No leaks this time. Save yourself some trouble and have these things handy just-in-case. I didn't tighten as tight as I needed to the first time because this was the first time I've lived in a house with PEX and also compression fittings so I was just acting out of an abundance of caution. Also, I agree with the instructions, as inconvenient as it may be for storage, it is a lot better if the filter is easily accessible. I placed mine right on the front and redirected some of the hosings around non-articulating components/structures under my sink. I've also placed a SmartThings water sensor under the cabinet for good measure. So far, I'd definitely recommend this unit. It's easy to install and provides better-tasting water. I've set Alexa to remind me to change the filter and now it is a waiting game. I'll update my review if anything changes. Cheers!

This under the sink filter seems to be a very practical and cost-effective means to ensure that your tap water is safe to drink. The filter was pretty easy to install and set up too. The directions are pretty good. There were a few issues I had with them but otherwise they are sufficiently thorough. (If you decided to drill pilot holes, use a 3/8” bit, not a 3/16” as listed. The 3/16” will likely be too large of a hole for the screws provided. I would also recommend using a level when initially marking the holes for installing the assembly bracket. It’s also easier to install the tubing into the push-in fittings on the assembly bracket BEFORE the bracket is mounted. This helps ensure that the tubing is pressed in the fitting as far as it can go. This is especially important if the assembly bracket installed near the side of the cabinet.) I initially was VERY skeptical of the push-in fittings, but I have had no leaks so it appears they work well; and they are definitely much quicker to connect than threaded fittings. It doesn’t take very long to install the system --as long as you don’t have to clean and organize the space under your sink first, and as long as the shutoff valve at the sink’s input supply is functioning. After the filter system was installed, I did notice a slight decrease in water pressure. I didn’t notice much of a difference in the taste of the water, but I also didn’t have an issue with the taste before the filter was installed. The filter is suppose to last a maximum of 6 months before needing changed. When changing the filter, the filter head on the assembly bracket automatically closes off the inlet water so the water doesn’t have to be turned off before changing. I tested this out and it worked as stated. Only a small amount of water leaked out as the filter was removed, but that’s to be expected. The biggest advantage of this system is the cost. The filter system costs a little over fifty dollars, which includes a filter. Replacement filters are a little less than this, depending if they are on sale or not. For households with poor water quality, this might be a simple solution to have safe drinking water at a reasonable price. For households who spend money on purchasing bottled water, this is a money saver for you.

This was an unexpectedly easy installation for my husband to complete, however be prepared to make a quick trip to the hardware store if you have copper pipes, which are incompatible with this. Also you can only place it on one line, either the hot or cold water, so we just placed it on the cold water line. I have heard about it causing leaks and such, but as of yet, I have not hand any problems with it; just be sure to follow all the instructions for installation and use and it should work as expected. According to the instructions, BE EXTRA CAREFUL NOT TO OVERPRESSURE THE SYSTEM. At first I didn't see a huge difference, but we did a test with water from the bathroom (no filter), and from the kitchen sink(filter) and could taste the difference. This was a great replacement for both our unreliable fridge one, and the ones you can buy to go directly onto the faucet.

The Filtrete under sink water filter system is a great choice for most residential needs. The filter operates at 1.5gpm and filters up to 1,500 gallons of water. Each filter typically lasts about 6 months under normal operating conditions. For high use water systems, the filter will need to be replaced sooner. There is no meter for when the filter needs to be actually changed, but there is a chemical sticker included in the box. The sticker is activated by pinching the small button on the back of it, which releases a chemical into the paper. It takes approximately six months for the sticker to fill with color, indicating that your filter needs to be changed. Filtrete also offers a text reminder service that you can sign up for.  Although if you notice a drop in water pressure, or any other change in water quality, then you should change the filter as early as needed. This filtrete filter is advertised to remove 4 types of contaminants, lead, microbial cysts, chlorine, and any solids over 0.5microns (which typically include; sand, sediment, rust, and soil ). From what I can tell so far, it is doing a good job.Our drinking water is typically over chlorinated, and has a lot of calcium or hardness to the water. After installing the new filter, and letting it run for 7 minutes, I poured a glass of water. I held it up to the light, and everything looked crystal clear. Right away I could smell that the chlorine scent had been removed. The water itself felt softer, and definitely tasted better than the straight tap water. It actually tasted just as good as most bottled waters Just as a side note, this filter is designed to be a great choice for typical tap water environments. However if you live in an area where there is a lot of water contaminants or pollution, then you might want to think about also using a second step for additional water filtration, or try one of 3M's pricier options. Especially, if your area is known to have problems with NSF/ANSI 401 or VOC contaminants.   Installation really is as easy as they say, it takes less than 30 minutes to install. If everything under your sink is easily accessible then 10 minutes is actually pretty reasonable. This water filter is not recommended to be installed on the hot water line, as the water temperature should not exceed 100 degrees fahrenheit. The only thing you need to do to your existing water line under your sink, is to disconnect the cold water line, at the shut off valve, (obviously turn off the water first).  From here all you have to do is mount the filter base close enough to the valve, so everything can still be connected with the supplied hoses. The base only needs three screws to mount it. Just remember to make sure you will have enough room for the attached filter, and hoses. The two plastic hoses that come with the filter are easy to attach. One end of each of the hoses just presses into the base, with it's quick connect couplers. The couplers remind me a lot of the old finger trap toys we had as kids. Once the hose is inserted into the coupler, it feels impossible to remove. Unless you apply pressure inward at the coupler lip, and then pull the hose out, the included instructions have a diagram better showing this process. The other ends of the blue hoses need to be attached to the remaining adapters included. Just keep track of the direction of the water, as indicated on the base. The left hose should connect to the water valve, and the right hose should connect to the water hose dangling from the faucet. Turn the water valve back on, screw in the filter and check for leaks. The cool thing is that the base is supposed to shut off the water flow, when the filter is removed, making replacing the filter extremely easy.  No need to play with the valve or anything else. The water pressure had dropped a little bit after installing the filter, but it was still pretty good, and way better than a lot of those faucet attachment filter systems.   Really for what you get with the ease of installation, filter life, quick filter changes, and great tasting water, you would not expect to be paying such a reasonable price for a water filter. For the price range, this is definitely the best choice!

I can't speak for everyone, but after installing this under our sink and using the water, not even necessarily drinking it, I can easily tell the difference in quality and freshness. Here in the East Bay in California tap water is actually pretty clean already, but this filter is really something else. I'm normally used to the filters that attach to the sink up top, and we also use our refrigerator's water which also has a filter that I just changed out and taste tested between the two, and I'm not surprised that the water from the sink tasted better to me. The filter in the refrigerator is cheaper is possibly why? But regardless, the quality is definitely there, AND it lasts 6 months too! Really great value for the length of time you get from this, especially with how much water is used from the kitchen sink washing dishes!

I love this filter, just got it for the third time. It maintains most of the flow and removes all of the chlorine taste. The filters are reasonably priced, last 6+ months, and are easy to replace. The only downside is my own fault. I didn't see they make a higher level filter that also filters out lead. I wish I had gotten that, will definitely get it when I replace the filter cartridge.

Great Low Cost and Easily Installed Water Filter

Our home's water comes from a private well and for the most part is decent for drinking. In the summer months when there is less rain the water tends to have a bit of an earthy smell and taste, so I was really excited to get the 3M Filtrete system installed. As listed by the manufacturer, it took about 30 minutes for the complete installation. It's pretty simple, there are a couple of screws to mount the bracket and push-type connections for most of the provided tubing. One section of tubing is screwed onto the existing cold water line under the sink. I would recommend laying everything out first and making sure there is room for the tubing and for removing the filter for replacement down the road. DIY Tip - The two pieces of provided 3/8" tubing were a bit stiff when trying to install, so I let them sit in the direct sun to soften them up and make them more pliable for installation. Once all the tubing was connected to the existing cold water line, it's time to install the filter. It's a simple 1/4 twist to engage and you're ready to run some water. I let the water run for approximately 10 minutes to make sure there were no leaks and to rinse the filter. 3M Provides a "time strip" to remind the user to change the filter in 6 months, so I stuck that on the filter and we're off and running! Whether it's psychological or not, the water seems to taste and smell much better and knowing that microbial cysts, lead, sand, silt, etc. is being filtered out puts my mind at ease. Overall, the 3M Filtrete system is an affordable and easy-to-install water filtration system I would recommend to anyone who drinks their well or town/city provided water.

This is a great option for in home, under sink filtration at this price. There are pros and cons though. Pro: Price Relative ease of installation and takes up little space Does make water taste more pure and looks clear Filter change notices/reminders We did gain room in the refrigerator since we now do not need a filtered water pitcher in there, as this makes the water taste just as good without taking up shelf space. Con: Easy install not guaranteed. Had a couple of issues with the pressure/push fittings that did not want to seal. This is similar to some other reviews I saw where the fitting came loose and flooded. I have not had that so far, but did have issues with it on install, so I am watching carefully. While I like the results so far, I am concerned about the fittings issue and will update my experience in a few months one way or the other.

First of all, the filter really works. The tap water in my area is not great. There is a smell and a taste that this filter almost completely removes. So two thumbs up there. The other thing is that installation was unexpectedly easy. Total time was maybe 20 minutes, and I was really taking my time. Most of the fittings are those new press-fit, and there are adapters to tie into your existing threaded connectors. The filter is very easy to get in and out of the holder, so there's no problem with putting this all the way in the back of your cabinets, and the lines are plenty long enough to give you flexibility in where you want to mount it. The only drawback here is that this is in-line with your normal faucet. It's not a separate line for dispensing water. That means you don't have to make any new holes in your sink or take over an existing one, but that also means that all the cold water you run through your sink is also going through the filter. If you just want to use this for drinking water or cooking water, then you're also going to waste a lot of filter capacity by using it for washing dishes or your hands or anything else you use that tap for. I put this in my wet bar, so it's almost exclusively used for water that's going to be consumed. If you're going to put this under your kitchen sink, that's something to consider.

The first thought I had was I did not know what I was doing but the instructions are encouraging and make you feel confident in doing the job. A side note, they do encourage you to see a specialist if you are not sure about the tools and installation. So, the box says it will remove certain contaminants in the water and I can't measure that but the taste is great. I have a filter system in my fridge but having multiple filter systems in the home have been helpful because my other system makes water flow slowly. My friends and family love water, especially during our 100+ degree weather in Texas or after the gym. I wasn't excited to have to drill holes underneath my sink and the filtration tube is pretty large. We all know under sink space is limited so I wish that was a little smaller. Overall I'd recommend this for the home because it has changed the quality of the way water tastes, the ease of setting it up, and hopefully makes my water healthier.

So I had been looking at much more expensive options. I wanted to have filtered water on my basement sink, which is near the Exercise equipment. This is going to do PERFECTLY. First the MAX unit is pretty large, almost 20" in length. So make sure you have room under your sink, to account for that, and have room to remove and replace the filter in the future. Installation is really easy, but the instructions (in my opinion) need one change. It refers to the INPUT installations, as what I would call the output of the filter. It really isn't a big deal, as the pictures provided in the instructions make it EXTREMELY clear on what goes where. Two Screws, and two water connections.. No new pipes, if you can use a simple adjustable wrench, and a screwdriver... you can install this yourself (don't pay $100+ for a plumber). Now after you flush the filter the first time, you are good to go... and I can say I didn't notice any real change in water pressure, and it just works. I am in The Chicago water system from the lake, so I already had good water... but I could taste the difference once this filter went on. It is going to be sometime till I know how long the filter will last from my usage... but overall. Perfect Price, for what it is and what I am using it for.

This was my first under-the-sink water filter. I was a little concerned with trying to install it myself. but the instructions were clear and I did it without any trouble. I like it much better than my old one that was attached to the faucet. This is out of the way and hidden, and the water tastes much better straight out of the tap. I'm saving money by refilling my own water bottle instead of buying bottled water, and I feel good knowing that the filter catches things that ,y town water treatment plant might let slip through. I haven't noticed any change in water pressure, which was a concern when I first looked at this type of filter.

It is a very simple install: Turn off the water. A few drilled holes, guide holes, to mount the mounting bracket. Attach the mounting bracket. Connect the cold water line. (Do not attach to hot water line!) Connect the hose to the faucet. Insert the filter... You are ready to roll. There is a noticeable difference in the taste of the water. My son even says the water feels like water. Not sure what that means but worth a repeat. Definitely sign up for the filter replacements to be sent, that way you don't have to remember when it is due. The filter is good for 6 months.

The Filtrete filter was easy to install. All required parts are supplied. Had a problem with the filter leaking, a quick reread of the install guide fixed it. I could taste the difference in the water. I have a well and the water has a salty taste, this filter took out that taste and the water even clearer. This is a solid investment for cleaner water. We have a whole house water filtration system, but this little filter system does a better job of making better drinking water. I even purchased another one for the bathroom sink. I would recommend this to family and friends.

I've been using the Filtrete for a little over a week. You can absolutely taste the difference and I wish I had done this years ago. We live in our older place and occasionally water has come out off-color. With the Filtrete, we don't have to worry anymore and it means all the water we drink, cook, and wash our dishes with is crystal clean. Installation was easy enough, took under 2 hours. In case you're wondering, there's no change in water pressure. Seriously recommend this to everyone and now I would never live anywhere without a Filtrete.

Lake Michigan Water Never Tasted So Good

We have Lake Michigan water and it is overall pretty good. But we recently installed an ice maker and have been drinking a lot more tap water. I thought it would be a good idea to get a filter installed. The installation was very simple if you have ever done any minor water line work before. If you never have, you will still be able to install. You simply find a place for it under the sink and mount the canister/housing using 2 screws. Then you shut off the cold water line and remove the hose. You tie the filter into the water line then tie the hose into the filter. The filter acts as a pass through for your cold water. The filter hoses use a "push in" hose, so make sure you push them in firmly and all the way. On my first attempt I did not push one in all the way and it leaked and sprayed immediately. I had to shut the water off again and check the connection. I just pulled the hose out and pushed it in again making sure to push it all the way in. Then I turned it back on and checked for leaks and there were none. You then run the water for about 5 or 6 minutes to clear the "new" out of it. I then packed a tumbler full of ice and filled it up with tap water. I took a big swig and clearly noticed a difference in taste. There was actually no taste. It was like drinking from a water bottle. And our tap water normally has a distinct taste, not much but you can notice something there. Hard to explain, but those who drink tap water probably know what I am talking about. I then had everyone in my house try it (they all drink the tap water too) and they all noticed the difference as well. This was a winner and everyone in the house thanked me for the fresher water. The only downside I can notice is that the water pressure from the cold water is slightly down. The hot water is still strong, but the cold water is not. It is not a deal breaker and is not causing any negative side effects, but I just thought I should mention it. Overall I would say that if you normally drink tap water you should definitely purchase this filter. It makes a difference and makes you feel like you are enjoying a nice refreshing clear/clean water bottle but with no waste.

The filter was fairly easy to install under the sink. I had a leak first try, but I found that you have to push the tubing as far as you can push it into the collar then you will be okay. Once installed I had my wife do a blind taste test. Not gonna lie I was worried but it passed with flying colors! Now I can get nice filtered water without having to using large jugs or small water bottles. Definitely recommend for easy filtered water without having to use a separate faucet.
