Improved water taste after filter installation

We live in Arizona and we get hard water here, well at least where we live in AZ, can't speak about the whole state. We moved here last year after living in Memphis, TN for 5 years. The water there was so much good tasting that it spoiled us. We expected same quality here but were surprised to see how weird tasting water we get. We were fed up of the water so much that I had to start water service at my home. Although, it doesn't cost us much if we refill it ourself (about $1.50/gallon), it's a hassle to refill those heavy 5-gallon jugs. But then I saw this awesome water filtration system by Filtrete and immediately grabbed it because I had been thinking about getting it since a long time and boy, has it changed our life. I'm so glad that I got it. I have not done any testing myself but I can taste the difference in our water. It makes all the water that flows through it taste fresh and pure, no chemical tastes or bad smells. Now I can use water straight from the tap just like how we did in Memphis. This might prove cheaper and definitely more convenient than hauling around water. And since it mounts under the sink, it goes completely unnoticed and leaves room for other items.
Installation was very easy. It took my about 20 mins for complete installation. All the hardware included were sufficient for an under sink install. I was surprised the fittings worked so well without adding teflon tape or anything. The unit is particularly tall, so you need to make sure you have enough room to not only install the filter but also to remove it from its holder, and extra 2.75 inches I reckon. The filter is very easy to replace- no tools required. It does drop water pressure by some amount which is noticeable but I'm ready to make that sacrifice, just because the water quality without this filter is horrible, not just for drinking but for other purposes as well. The splash from our kitchen faucet has made our countertop very rough because of hard water. So, there's no way I'm going to run that faucet without getting the water filtered. I like the fact that cartridge replacement will be a lot easier.
Pros:
- Easy to install
- Not made from harmful chemicals
- Replacement filters are inexpensive
- Removes lead
- Improved taste
Cons:
-Reduced water pressure
I’m saving a ton of money not buying bottled water. It beats my weekly trip to the water store for the 5 gallon jugs. And now the whole family can just go up to the cold water and drink whenever they want. Overall, I'm very much satisfied with this water filtration system and would definitely recommend it.

The 3m filtrate Maximum cabinet water filter is great.
I live in a suburban area and our water is undrinkable. It smells like chlorine. When we cooked with it, we could taste it in our food. When running the water, the chlorine was so bad it would burn your nose. We used our filtered water from the fridge, but when your making Tea it takes 5 minutes to fill the pitcher. Not any more Thanks to the 3m filtrate water filter.
It comes with everything you need to add it to your sink. Install time took me 15 minutes.
Before beginning make sure your current application uses 3/8 lines and connectors and you will not have to make 5 trips to the hardware store like I usually do. If you need to resize with adapters have these on hand prior to starting.
I used the included hardware and was finished in a snap. My advice is to use the nylon plumbers’ tape around your threads to add leak security to your application.
After install I ran the faucet for about 10 minutes to flush the filter. When it was done, I checked for leaks. The leak proof adapters in the filter head worked great. (see note)
I then put it to the tastes test. WOW! What a difference. The chlorine was gone, plus it filters lead, microbial cysts, odor, sediment and sand. The filters last about 6 months. I was invited to join their text reminder club, via an included card. But when I tried, the program had ended. Not an issue, I just set a reminder on my phone.
After the install I did notice that water pressure was less by about 25 percent. Again, not an issue for us.
We now use the water for drinking and cooking and are very happy with the addition of this unit.
Note: I am a little worried about the press in tubing into the distribution head. If it should fail when you are not home, there could be damage, as there would be nothing to stop water from spraying full blast. I would have made the head unit accept 3/8 copper connectors or even plastic to ensure this does not happen. Despite this, I would highly recommend this to family and friends.

Easy to install. The water tastes good but it does reduce flow quite a bit, probably by half.

I normally drive to my local water refilling station to get my H2O, but due to the virus I have remained home only going out when it's essential. I never owned a water filter, so this review is based on my first experience.
The set up was very easy. I turned off the water and I attached the faucet water hose to the filter head. I later connected the water supply hose as well. I attached the filter and I was done! Easy Peasy. I did notice low water pressure, but I expected that. The filter is small. I was still able to organize my stuff as I had it before.
The water filters are inexpensive too. I want to avoid going out as much as possible, so I placed an order for 2 more online. So far so good.
It removes lead and harmful chemicals and it tastes better too. It also gives me peace of mind knowing I don't have to go out when I run out of water. I highly recommend it. It is inexpensive and a good time to buy one right now due to the pandemic.

Great Taste

I was tired of boiling my water in a kettle and leaving it overnight to cool down so that I could filter it in the morning with one of those portable water filtration pitchers. Yeah, that was my true water story and the nuances of getting great tasting water without paying a water service company to deliver. I know what you are thinking, overkill right. Boiling the water and then filtering it. The truth is Portland OR, has great tasting potable water due to its proximity to mountain sourced springs, tributaries and rivers within the area, however in 2014 we experienced a boil notice alert and ever since then our family has been boiling the water prior to filtration to avoid any risk on our health. There is a better taste to water when we did that until of course we obtained the Filtrete 3US-MAX-SO1 with 3M technology. Now I get the same great taste of water without all the rituals from the night before. Here is a list of my highlights with this product.
Simple Installation
The installation was a cinch! Even the most inexperienced person can do this. I was relieved on how simple it was to install. You really only need a screwdriver, small wrench, plumbers tape, and 15 minutes for setup. Really! Of course having an electric drill, hammer will add to a more quicker installation experience. Great for apartments since it will not cause any irreversible damage to existing pipe
Function
I have a table top dishwasher that ran on a cold water faucet setting, but now has to run on a hot water faucet setting. That has been the only setback. Besides, it will not have enough pressure to run the machine and my dishes do not need filtered water. I can tell the PSI changed when the cold water is running. The waterflow is slow and steady, not weak at all. I am very happy and satisfied on how convenient it is to have water straight from the tap. It's like old times in Portland.
Taste Experience
Refreshing and clean. Quality taste without the rituals.

First off, I'd like to say that this is a good quality filtration system. Before this we were using a water pitcher with a filter. It still had that tap water taste. We live in an area where the tap water isn't really all that bad but when you spent most of your life drinking spring water, you notice differences. This system makes the tap water almost tasteless, as strange as that sounds. I love it because we were already saving money by not buying bottled water but now we can clear some space in our fridge and we don't have to keep refilling a pitcher. We drink a lot of water so it was a minor inconvenience especially when someone would forget to fill it. Now all we have to do is turn on the tap.
Now on to the installation. I am no stranger to plumbing. I am a DIY-er as much as I possibly can be. This was difficult for me to put in. First of all, you are working under the sink which can always be a challenge. Second there are a lot of obstacles to work around when you have a deep sink, garbage disposal, etc. I had to really work to figure out how to install this system to get the proper height, allowances for the tubing, and have it close enough to the cold water line, which in our case, was right behind our disposal. I figured it out but it took me about 45 minutes to do everything. I was expecting about 15 minutes. That being said, we had a tight configuration. Others may have no issues. I would just say that before you purchase this product, read the installation instructions and verify that you will have a good place to mount this.
The filter is supposed to last up to 6 months or about 1,500 gallons. I haven't done a cost comparison yet, but just running the numbers quickly it would seem that the savings are big. It is also pretty easy to change the filters. It's just a quarter turn, pop on and off.
I would say this is a worthy investment if you are tired of buying bottled water or using a pitcher. Nice product.

We have well water at our home and have been buying 1 gallon bottles of water at the store. It's a waste of plastic but we didn't want to drink directly from our well water. The Filtrete Max is a convenient and compact unit. We tested our water with a home testing kit before and after the installation. We found the water after the installation of the filter to be much higher in quality and much better-tasting.
The installation was easy as it comes with standard connections. Once the bracket is installed under the sink, all you have to do is connect the hoses and you are up and running.
The package contained an offer for text-based messages to remind you to change out the filter but it seems that this program has expired. They should offer this as a value-add since the price of replacement filters is high (as with any filtration system).

Worried about water quality? Short of a full blown RO system the Filtrete Maximum Under Sink Water Filtration System 3US-MAX-S01 will let you sleep at night.
Installation instructions and included items along with the proper tools were all that are needed for installation. I am a little above average in plumbing work and taking my time while enjoying a frosty beverage or two I managed to stretch this out to an hour, install only, not including gathering tools and emptying the base cabinet.
Know I have clear ice cubes from my tray and the water tastes, well like water, the chlorine taste is all but gone..
I would recommend this as a clean water solution..

This under ink water filtration system is perfect! It is very easy to install and what I like about this system is that the filter itself does not need to go into an external housing but simply attaches to the unit by screwing it in. No more unscrewing a separate housing and spilling water everywhere while getting out the old filter. With this Filtrete unit just unscrew the self-contained filter and screw the new filter in. No mess, no fuss.
Perhaps most importantly the water taste quality is excellent as well. I highly recommend this filtration system.

Handyman was at my house when this arrived so I had him install. 5 minutes later he told me I could have easily done it.
One thing to note- This is for COLD WATER ONLY. It is not rated for warm or hot water.
Anyway, I doubt I have lead in my water but one never knows. This has been on for a week now and I can taste the difference. The nasty red schmootz at the bottom of water glasses is now gone.
What I REALLY like? I don't have to keep an extra container in the fridge and I can fill the coffee pot without waiting for the slow drip of the brita.

If you have basic plumbing skills, this is a breeze to install. I like that fact you only have to change the filter twice a year. Flow rate is still good but it is reduced a bit from before installation. (Better than getting water from the fridge filter) The filtered water doesn't taste much different but it is nice having piece of mind that more junk is filtered out. (Brita still makes water taste better IMHO) Also still waiting to hear back from customer service on a question I had (very slow to respond ~Week)

I’ve never had an under sink water filter before, mostly because I thought the only ones that existed were outrageously expensive and required extra faucets and tons of upkeep. It turns out I was very wrong and this is where this Filtrete filter comes in.
What’s in the box:
You get the filter, two tubes to connect to your cold water line and the faucet line, a few adapters to fit to 3/8 inch standard under sink pipe, and a cool little sticker that tells you when it’s time to replace the filter.
Install:
It really couldn’t be easier. The filter screws to the side of your cabinet, the tubes use a couple adapters to connect each end of the filter tubing to the sink pipe. The other side of each tube connects to the filter using a push to seal, meaning you just push the pipe in the hole and it self seals.
I didn’t have any problems at all hooking things up not did I run into any leaks.
Use:
My biggest problem with this filter is the decreased flow rate caused by using it. It’s definitely a noticeable difference switching between the filtered cold water and unfiltered hot water. It’s somewhat understandable given this thing filters almost everything out of your water, but if you have poor water pressure to start with this could pose some serious problems.
Summary:
I think this is a great product to add to get your sink tap water crystal clear and lead free. The only drawback being the slight drop in flow rate using the filter.

I sent a water sample to my local municipality but it's been 3 weeks so I guess I'm not getting the results. I suppose this filter is as good as any but I really can't say how well it reduces contaminants. The Filtrete replaces a Brita three cartridge system. One filter is much more cost effective and the Brita cartridges were expensive. After swapping the filters I did not notice and difference in taste or smell.
Installation was simple and just took a few common tools.
My complaint with the Filtrete is that ALL of the cold water is filtered. The Brita had a separate spigot which I much prefer as I don't need filtered water all the time. I remedied the issue with a few parts from the hardware store but don't feel I should have had to. I probably wouldn't have got the Filtrete If I had know the connection method but if you want all of your cold water filtered go for it.

Most of the year we have some of the best tasting water in Texas. During the Summer we get water from a couple of alternate water suppliers. The alternate water suppliers often have an algae taste and smell which the city "counteracts" with a lot of chlorine. I have filtered water in our kitchen and decided to add this filter to my bar. The bar is where I am most likely to get water to drink since the ice machine is there.
This filter was a snap to install with the push on flex line fittings. It took only a few minutes to complete. When I turned the tap on to flush the filter there was a loud whistle coming from the filter. This noise was present every time I turned on the tap to near a full flow. The second day the noise was present but diminished. On day 3 the noise had vanished.
I flushed the filter for 15 minutes (as opposed to the recommended 5 minutes). As I drank my first glass of water after the installation I first noticed that the chlorine and algae smell were not present. I then noticed a plastic odor and taste. After a couple of minutes my tongue and lips began to tingle. The tingling remained for quite some time. I have flushed the filter and tasted the water daily for a week now and the taste, smell and lip and tongue tingling remain. I have compared this to my kitchen filtered water and unfiltered water and this taste and smell is not something coming through the other taps. This is not at all what I expect from a water filter.

Great Water – Worrisome Connectors

I wanted to have good tasting filtered water from my kitchen sink’s faucet and the Filtrete Maximum Under the Sink Filtration System does a good job of doing that. My wife and I hated trying to fill up our coffee maker or our water bottles using the filtered water from the refrigerator. Now we can fill up our water containers using the kitchen faucet which is so much easier.
Everything I needed to install the filter under my sink was included with the filter. The directions were quite straight forward and there are several videos out there in case you would rather watch them. The installation relies on the use of several push on type connectors and one compression fitting so the entire process does not require a lot of work or special tools. I had mine fully installed within 30 minutes with minimal issues. One recommendation I have is to make sure your filter mounting bracket is not near your faucet’s retractable hose. The head of my faucet has a rather long hose that is stored under the sink when not extended and this could be problematic if it tangled with the filter’s mounting bracket.
Once I had the filter installed I ran the filter for several minutes and noticed a slight reduction in the overall water pressure. The water flow was still adequate enough for us so it was not a major issue. I haven’t had the filter long enough to know if the water pressure will continue to drop over time but I plan on replacing the filter at 6 month intervals just in case. The water tastes great and I have confidence in the Filtrete’s filter doing its job removing any contaminates.
Concerns: I have no concerns with the quality of the filter or the quality of the water. But having done some DIY plumbing in the past I would have been much happier if they would have used or given me the option to use pre-made braded water lines with screw on connections versus the plastic push on connectors and compression fitting supplied with this system. During my installation when I first turned on the water one of my push on connectors leaked until I reseated it. Push on connectors have been around for a very long time and for the most part have been reliable but it still makes me nervous using them around my kitchen cabinets and floor.

I love drinking water and it is important for me to drink clean water. My water from the refrigerator is filtered and that’s where I mostly get my water from. When I cook I use water from the kitchen faucet. Now with this 3M Filtrete water filter, I can have filtered water for cooking and for my coffee and tea.
Installing this filter system was pretty easy. There’s an installation video on YouTube with Matt Muenster from DIY Network and he walks you through the steps. The kit comes with everything you need. Finding the space underneath the sink is probably the hardest part. Find a spot that will be easy for you to change the filter when needed. You need 2 1/2” clearance under the filter cartridge for inserting and removing the cartridge. Make sure to insert the tubings properly or leaks may happen. Make sure that you insert the tube in the correct port (output and input). Other than that, it’s simple.
I noticed that this filter system decreased my water pressure quite noticeably. Because this filter is connected to the cold water supply, now even washing the dishes uses the filtered water. The filter replacement is not cheap at $46, twice a year.
Overall, I think this filter system does the trick for its price point. It’s good enough for what I need it for and that’s filtered and better tasting water for cooking and water for making hot beverage. It taste a lot better than the straight faucet water.

Great filter. Easy installation. So far we filled up about 15 gallons of water and no issues. The only thing to note about installation is the screws supplied aren’t great. I used my own. Also don’t forget to date the filter when installed to remind yourself when it needs to be changed.

Much Better Tasting Water

This filter was easy to install, if you know some basic plumbing techniques. You need a drill to mount the filter bracket and a wrench to unscrew the nuts for the water lines. That is basically it!
I really like this system, because you just have to unscrew the filter and screw in a new one. No making sure to have the water shut off and using a wrench to unscrew the base. This helps prevent water going all over the place.
We have a strong chlorine presence in our water. This filter gets rid of the chlorine taste and the water actually tastes good now! With city water you never know what you are actually drinking, so we have always used bottled water. Now we don’t have to worry because of all the different things that this particular system filters out. I can now drink right from the tap.
There was no change in water pressure after installing this system, which was a concern of mine. I highly recommend this product. However, I took off a star because of the expensive of the replacement filters.
