If you love the original. You'll get the feels.
||Posted . Owned for 7 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So much feels with this game. Even just opening the case. The intro gave me chills, and so much flash backs. Music is amazing, graphics are stunning and the battling I love. Even though it's slightly different than the original, had its own little charm. Some points were too much but overall amazing. Cannot wait for the other installments!

Fantastic game, but...
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game is phenomenal in many ways. I really love the vibrant world that Square Enix has created from a beloved classic RPG on the Playstation. There is so much to love about this game that I won't list them all here. If you want to see what I mean you can watch any YouTube review of this game. It really does look stunningly gorgeous and the story and voice-acting are top notch. One complaint/concern I share with many who have played this game is the scope of this, the first installment. This game covers such a tiny and honestly unremarkable section of the original game which is disappointing. It is done really well, but it was not really necessary to get so carried away with enlarging on this tiny segment of the story. The original game gets so much better once you are beyond the point at which this new game ends that I think a lot of us fans wish they had gone further into the original story. This also brings up concerns about how much they are going to alter the original story and also how many friggin' installments are they aiming to sell us? I think most of us would have been content with an HD reworking of the original story, with zero changes. Hopefully they don't ruin FF7. This is a good start, but I have many concerns.

Expanded Midgar Story
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A much deeper look into the events of Midgar. What takes 4 hours to get through in the original is stretched into 40 hours, and its beautiful. Very well put together. It made characters matter more than I ever expected them to. The music and scenery brought me back to my childhood. Everything I hoped for in a remake, and I cant wait for more!

A Story you can't miss
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This has been quite a journey and an amazing reimagining of the original story. I was enthralled the entire time. While I played the original, this has changed enough to not know what to expect next. Yet, it still felt similar. Coming back to my favorite characters was quite an experience. If you are a graphics person, you won't be disappointed. This game is seriously a joy to look at and experience. Sound is on point bringing back your favorite songs and remixed. While this may not be the full Final Fantasy 7 experience, it is still a complete game. You will not be disappointed but you will find yourself wanting more.

Loved it!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Game was at the store when it was supposed to be despite coronavirus. Good job Best Buy. As for the game itself as a long time FF7 fan it definitely did it justice; the battle system and story are on point and of course the graphics and sound track are phenomenal. I'm a little iffy on the ending hoping they go somewhere good with it.

Lovingly handled nostalgia + good new elements
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me preface this by saying that I used the first paycheck that I ever received in the fall of 1997 to purchase a Playstation, and the 2nd paycheck to purchase a copy of Final Fantasy VII. I spent hundreds of hours over several playthroughs with these characters, and to see them in beautifully rendered 4k, created by people with as much care and affection for the characters as I have myself, is the high point of April 2020 for me. Not that there was much competition for that high point. This is the first episode of FFVII Remake, and only covers the Midgar section (disc 1) of the original, so I'm psyched for the remainder of the story, even if it takes years. Some notes: A) Play on Normal. Easy is excessively easy, and Classic is easier than that. Hard difficulty (which I'll probably never touch) is unlocked by beating the game on Normal. B) Swap your materia often. Don't be afraid to bow out of a boss fight because you were unprepared - the game allows you to restart from the last moment before the fight began, so you can reshuffle your abilities and elements. C) Keep an eye out for the Cait Sith cameo!

This is a REMAKE, not a remastering.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There isn't a whole lot I can say about FFVII-R that hasn't already been said in thousands of other reviews. Yes, the graphics are amazing. Yes, the reworked tracks from classic FFVII are amazing. Yes, the combat is intuitive and -- while still exhibiting tried and true Active Time Battle mechanics -- the updated 3d-stage roaming during battles is a refreshing decision by the devs... ... but anyone expecting this game to be a verbatim script/sequence of events from the 1997 classic is sorely mistaken. Remake is just that -- while the spine of the story remains the same, much has been added by way of character development, party interaction, and depth of world-building. Hell, the game has been planned to be so large that it will be released in no less than 3 installments, with this game taking place all within the legendary city of Midgar. To reiterate: for those who played the original, and have negative (or even positive) opinions on it, Remake is much more of a derivative and an 'alternate retelling' of sorts, and not just a copy/paste of the original game with better graphics.

Awesome Remake!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Excellent remake/rework of ff7. The story starts off the same, but starts to diverge after the first main mission. Also the late game discoveries are now brought to the forefront. Which helps the story flow, instead of having the jarring changes it does in the original. Combat is fun, with an auto mode that feels more like turn based combat, as well as normal mode for a fun tactical action RPG experience. Lots side quests have been added, with much more character development, even for secondary characters! Materia and equipment are handled slightly differently, but mostly the same! Weapons now upgrade, and materia upgrades faster and is more readily available. But as it's an action rpg, magic no longer always auto hits. The deluxe version comes with a nice soundtrack, not all music, there's tons! But a good selection. As well as a small artbook and steelcase, plus an extra summon materia DLC. Package is about the size of 3 bluray cases. For me it was worth the extra $$. Lots to love. I can't wait to get back to playing it more. Definitly Game of the Year material.

Awesome Remake of a Class RPG
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Beautiful Graphics and Awesome Gameplay Transition. The remake give us a better look of Midgar that we couldn't see back in the PS version. The detail is amazing in every scene except a few. I don't expect Square to detail every little thing in the game because I think they did more than enough. The transition from location to location and battle to location or location to battle are seamless. The only loading screen that I bumped into is when you jump from a major a location to a different one, basically locations that are not "connected". When saving the game, it does take a little longer than what you are used to, but it doesn't bug me. The game auto save at specific check point and you are able to save anywhere and anytime in the game. Perfect for someone like me who like to save very often. I can only play a couple of hours before getting a headache because of motion sickness. Playing classic mode allow me to not to move the camera too much during battle, but it does make the game difficulty easier than intended. Overall an A+ Game for JRPG Lover.

This game is 10/10
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you enjoyed FF7 in any way this is worth your time. The story is fantastic and I’ve enjoyed every minute. They’ve really put the time in to make this enjoyable. Gameplay is mostly good. The game will randomly control the speed in which you play which can be annoying here and there but it’s not horrible.

Fantastic Game!!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great compliment to the original FF7 game! Just remember, it's a Remake, meaning not everything is going to happen just like in the original but the combat, graphics, dialogue between characters, and story is still great! Highly Recommended as this should be a candidate for Game Of the Year....

What a time to be alive!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. How often do you get to relive something from your childhood in today's hectic adult life? The original version has been available on multiple platforms forever now for those who want to play this game the way they remembered it. As for those who want to journey through the story one more time with these beloved characters developed into today's modern engine, this is the game to get! The game does stick to the core story with a twist to keep veteran players on their toes. It's not too obvious if you didn't read up but the game will be released in multiple parts which could be a deal breaker for many. Don't get me wrong though, this first part doesn't extend a portion of the original story just to get a $60 game out the door. It builds heavily on the world we love and develop the characters in ways where you'd wish they were actual people in your real day life. Plus a fully voiced game couldn't bring these characters more to life. Can't be anymore excited on what the next chapter brings.

Amazing!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a must buy for any final fantasy fan! The graphics are gorgeous. The ATB combat is a lot of fun in this game. The music is beautiful. The characters are lovable. And as a person who has played the original game it gave me so much nostalgia. I’m looking forward to the second disc.

Finally a great FF game on new gen
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I liked the changes compared to orginal even it will always be great in own right. Never a big fan of random encounters and going to another screen. And the new combat system is great. Better than 15 when they first tried real-time. I like that it's still turn based with real-time. Disappointed with 15. If they have to remake something to give me a good game all for it. I loved the story and the characters. Now the story is expanded, characters are fully realized given more depth. Not rpg purist, but I played square games since snes played FF 6,7,9,10,12,13,15,. This a great game final fantasy at its best in most ways. Not complaining about multiple releases if that means I get more game, and story. Rather spend my money on a remake than a new Ff. The orginal was a big deal and the work and detail that went into this game shows that are respecting that and not turning into trash. Enjoy it for what it is, I'm happy with the deluxe version, love the steelbook

I enjoyed the story and the graphics. The battle mechanics are excellent and each character has different playing style. The gameplay can take over 30 hours to complete in the first playthorugh.

I LOVE THIS GAME
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Having played the OG in 1997, this remake is a love letter to the classic story of Cloud, Tifa, Aerith, and Barret. The story and content is expanded, combat is intense, the visuals are eye popping, and the charm is overflowing. Let the story take you and enjoy the ride!

Best reimagining of my childhood ever
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The original FF7 was my first Final Fantasy and has continued to be my favorite Final Fantasy through the years. The remake is incredible and does the original justice im every way. I love the expansion on the Avalanche characters and getting the chance to get to know them better and the designs are flawless. The combat is fluid and dynamic making you feel like an absolute legend and switching between characters in combat is seamless so you don't lose any of the flow of the fight. This is definitely one that I want to Platinum, no matter how long it takes. Tifa, Aerith, Barrett, Red Xiii and Cloud are, of course, amazing and the added depth to all of them because of the Midgar part of the game being a full game is great and just fleshes everything out without making anything feel like filler. I want the next part so badly, but I'll have to settle for replaying FF7R part 1 over and over till it comes out.

More like a reboot than a remake, but not badf
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This remake is honestly a love it or hate it experience. Personally, I loved it. It may not be the whole story from the original, but I did like most of the expansions to the story. The gameplay was also fun. It's very different from the more traditional turn based mechanics of the original, but that's fine. Can't really say I'd recommend it if you didn't play the original before though. Main issue I had was that I didn't get all of the digital bonus codes that were promised, so that's a bummer.
