A great new take on an old classic!

I'd recommend this game to any FF fan whether you are a fan of either the newer more action oriented Final Fantasy entries (such as FF XV) or the more strategic old school entries (such as the original FF VII). This first entry in the remake of VII gives its complex characters the center stage and blends the cinematic story with its action RPG elements beautifully. While I do not mind the Chapter based story I do miss some of the open world feel of the original but suspect that there will be more of return to form with that regard in the following entries due to narrative reasons. At any rate this is a must play for any JRPG fans, FF fans, or anyone looking to revisit this classic story in a new light.

A New Spin on the Classic FFVII

Back in 1997, my friends and I all asked for the original FFVII for Christmas. It then proceeded to sear in our minds a lifetimes worth of nostalgia. There had never been anything quite like it before. 3 Disc's worth of it and a strategy guide to ensure we discovered all the secrets and got 100% completion. Fast forward 23 years later and the remake is released. Instantly, I am reminded of those long nights spent over my friends houses playing until we were told to go to bed. The graphics are now what we envisioned at 13 (with a refreshed fighting system to boot). FFVII is the game remake as the original on PS1 was supposed to be. I now will have dozens of hours of replay until the next chapter is released.

If you are looking for a retelling of the original FF7, then this is not it. It goes through the destruction of Midgar, and then you have to wait for part 2...whenever that maybe. The battle system is great IMO, the story is great(follows the original somewhat), upgrading weapons was wonderful, and the graphics are great. The only draw back for me was Wall Market, and it was not easy to grind to level up your people.

    A Great Remake So Far

I'm loving every second so far. The graphics and cinematics are breathtaking, and it is interesting to see the world "fleshed out" to provide more context to the story where there may have been limitations in the original game in 1997. I won't divulge more on the story for spoilers sake, but I am enjoying this retelling of a cult classic. The gameplay follows an ARPG model with a 'tactical mode', which incorporates pieces of the turn-based system to allow you to issue commands in a slo-mo style; certainly a system that is easy to pick up, at least in my experience. The soundtrack is beautifully done and transitions so well throughout the course of the game. I am biased, and I do love this game.

Bringing out the nostalgic feeling in the first mission of the game was a good touch, but there are new story lines while playing it. Nothing wrong with it, it’s a nice surprise. Battle system is an amazing upgrade that’s enjoyable for original fans and a newcomers. One complaint is that it stayed in Midgar with a ton o fillers that could’ve been cut down to 30%. But in the end it has a great package.

Great remake of a classic game. The graphics and music are great and enhance the story. Plenty of side quests to keep you busy. I will definitely purchase the next installment.

I've waited so long for this remake with rumors of it coming out there for awhile. I'm glad it's finally here, this is the first installment of the game and it's surreal. The graphics are beautiful, the game play is different than the original, where each character took their turn, you can still switch between characters but the fighting is continuous rather than waiting for the enemies or heroes to attack. The story line is different, but has also remained true at its core. I can't wait to experience the whole game. I am really looking forward to seeing all the places and characters that were in the original and seeing it all imagined. I would highly recommend this game

I played the original and loved it despite the graphics, but BOY is this game fun! It has that Tetsuya Nomura flare of cool action and epic set pieces that does FF7 justice. It also offered an amazing opportunity to flesh out the Midgar section of the game and made me care for characters I previously didn't. The deluxe addition was cool, I primarily use the steel book, and absolutely love the CD... which i had to play on my Xbox One ironically since PS4 can't play CDs. And the booklet has quite a bit of substance more so than KH3s. I absolutely recommend this for newcomers, its easy to get into and you'll soon realize what made the original ff7 so special.

If you've never played any of the games from the Final Fantasy Series then this game will be a great welcome into the new mechanics they are employing in recent games. For avid fans of of the series this game does great in filling in some of the time between the events you remember from the first disc of FFVII. Please note, there are story changes from the original that may cause some strife (pun intended) within the community. As for the Deluxe edition, I do not feel like the summon materia was that great of an addition in game, but the Steelbook and small artwork were beautiful, as well as the overall packaging! Steelbook is a must for fans of the original!

I played the original Final Fantasy 7 game back in 1998 when it first came out and it literally changed the way I thought about gaming and have always hoped that they would do a remake and so when I heard that this had come out I was not only ecstatic but I was filled with high expectations and anticipation and this game has not let me down at all it is fun it is engaging it's got some twists that are little bit new to the original but the essence of the game the story The overarching Narrative all of it is absolutely on point and brings back the same feeling that it did almost 20 years ago definitely definitely definitely buy this game you won't regret it

This is what a remake should be. Not just a remastering that updates looks without changing the game at all, but a reimagining of the original. A change to core gameplay that keeps it moving and fleshing out the story and characters to make it more immersive. The game only goes to the end of the Midgar arc, so if you want the full story then you will have to play the original, but it succeeds in making it feel complete. No story moment is wasted and the gameplay ties together cutscenes in a fun way as opposed to being broken up by them. While I wouldn't say this is a must play, I believe that fans of the Final Fantasy franchise will for sure enjoy this.

Definitely in my top 3 games of this year, and a serious contender for #1. They did justice to the OG version in a way that few probably would have expected. They padded out the Midgar section pretty heavily, but I never really felt the game drag much. I went ahead and did a second completionist platinum trophy run of the game, which I don't do for most games. The only con is that the follow-ups are nowhere in sight and they only got through a small portion of the original game in this version. Where they're taking the story in the future is anyone's guess, but so far, I remain hopeful.

I've been waiting for Final Fantasy VII Remake with high expectations since it was announced years ago. It was surreal when I actually held it in my hands. But how did it perform as a game? Did it live to expectations? Yes! I had some reservations about this being only the 'first installment' rather than the entire game. I'm not one for episodic releases. I thought that this game would draw out fetch quests within the city of Midgar while minimizing the actual story. Square Enix pulled it off. I can't go into how some the story changes to some degrees but I will say that where the game 'ends' will have you excited to see where they will go in 'chapter' 2. The visuals are mostly stunning. I say mostly because there are some points where there's pop in or some details were just ignored. The gameplay is FUN and will have you embracing the real-time fights instead of the turn-based action of the original. I suggest that you pay attention to the dialogue that unfolds as you fight certain enemies because there are hints in the conversations. Whether you are new to this game or have played the original and are looking to warp yourself down memory lane, I believe you will find Final Fantasy VII Remake to be worth every minute that you invest within it.

FFVII Remake is one of the greatest games ever made. It takes the part of the story from the first game and expands it to where you can fully experience the city of Midgar. They add new storylines and expanded the game so much it takes a good amount of time to beat the game. The battle system is amazing. It combines full on action with some turn base skills to make you think about what skill/ability you want to use. The game does everything right and this is just the first part in the series of a multiple part game. I recommend playing it if you are a fan of RPG's or the Final Fantasy series.

This is it. I have finally waited FIVE WHOLE years for this. And I got it in my hands. I started playing then I went through the beginning as I would in the OG. Man, it brings back so many memories. The music, gosh, I can’t even to begin with that. The cutscenes, everything, the music, the graphic, the city itself, gosh it’s HUGE. I kept putting it off as long as I could because I do not want to finish this lol. I’m in love with this game. I want to thank Square Enix for making this. I’ll never forget it. <3 <3 <3 If you’re a big Final Fantasy VII fan, you won’t ever be disappointed with this. :)

Honestly, I am so happy to have this chance to play a game i loved from my childhood. It's so beautiful. At first, I was a bit upset this game only goes through about 15-20% of the original game's story. It's going to be a while to see the whole game remade. They added a lot more character development and story. It was frustrating at first but now it's refreshing to see more of a story you love. Been playing on Easy because I want to see the story. I know there has been complaints about Easy being too Easy, but I am having fun with it. I am not good at games as I got older so I play to have fun.

As someone's first entry into the Final Fantasy series, this game was phenomenal. The combat was incredibly fluid, dynamic, and overall just fun to play, The characters are enjoyable, and the game overall is beautiful to look off. My only complaint is how abrupt the ending of the game is. It is confusing to follow due to some of the new narrative changes, but overall it was a satisfying experience. Best Buy was very communicative when it came to the delivery of the product, and it came promptly and in mint condition on the day of delivery. Absolutely excellent service.

Great to "replay" this game. Wonderfully made and beautifully done. **semi spoilers** I am a little disappointed that this isn't a full remake. Storyline-wise this only covers the first 5 hours of the original game. Don't get me wrong I love the game. They added some good content to draw out the game, but If they continue to release at this rate we are looking at 8 games. Hopefully with premade models, this means, we wont have wait as long for the follow up installments. Regardless, Looking forward to supporting this, long overdue, SE cashcow
