Played the original when it was released and WOW, the story closely follows that and gameplay was a bit to get use too vs the turn base. I’d recommend this game to everybody, if they have a language filter. I didn’t look so I’m not sure.

I have always been a big fan of the turn based combat style that Final Fantasy X had. So I wasn't a big fan when everything was active/live and there was no time to think. FF VII has a mixture of the active time battle (ABT), but you are able to to bring the fight to a halt while picking in the commands menu (Spells, Items, Abilities). This allows me time to think during battles & keep the fluid motion of the game itself going. You can easily get 30+ hours of game play in your first go around (You unlock a hard mode once you beat the game). The story line keeps you interested along with the amazing graphics you would expect from this game. The equipment & materia (magic) is very open & forgiving. Allowing you to play to your style of game & have the opportunity to modify what you have done in the past. I highly recommend this game for any role playing game (RPG) gamer out there.

Bravo to Square Enix on this remake of an already classic game. Beautiful visuals coupled with an awesome battle system equals a stellar experience through the whole campaign. Bravo!

I'm a hardcore fangirl for the FF Franchise and FF7 in general... I had low expectations for the Remake because I didn't know what to expect. Would the storyline be the same? Would it really FEEL like the characters I had come to love? I wasn't let down! The story is fantastic, the game itself has a TON of "after storyline" gameplay... Like... A ton. I'm a big fan of that, we have come to expect that from Final Fantasy and I'm happy to report that you'll get that with this Remake. I'm BEYOND excited for the next parts to come out because mannnnn I can't wait to see how this plays out! The battles took a bit to get used to but now I'm a master. Haha. If you like FF7, this is an EXCELLENT upgrade to current graphics abilities and you won't be disappointed.

I'm going to start this off by saying if you like RPGs or have ever liked Final Fantasy in your lifetime, go buy this game! That should be the first thing you do after reading this review. I will avoid spoilers as much as possible here I played the original at multiple times in my life and I have to say I'm extremely impressed with this remake. Personally, this is a 10/10 for me (with minor flaws in game mechanics, some cringy things here and there, plus motorball the inner game critic in me says 9.5/10, yes I love this game). Now the reasons why: Characters: You get to dive into each character that you truly interact with. In the original the other members of Avalanche had little impact in the beginning, but here, they truly do. I felt so immersed with these interactions that I cared more for them. You dive more into the main characters as well, with the way they interact with each other as well as getting to better know them without diving into information that will be learned later on. The one who truly showed me the best in-depth work was Dr. Hojo. He is so twisted and evil, in a scene where he interacts with Aerith your skin just crawls. I thought he was evil in the original, but here you see just what kind of person he is. Combat: This is the best combat experience I've come across in FF. Each character in your party has perks that come in handy depending on the situation. Once you get a feel for each character, you can set your leader to whom you prefer towards the end and really go all out. The lock-on is a little tricky as it's very easy to engage/disengage as well as to switch to another target and throw off your groove. For those who are new to the FF world, I recommend not going to hard mode right away so you get a feel for the system. Story: The story of this game has me as immersed as Fallout 3 did. I honestly didn't know what to expect from the Remake compared to the original, especially with the extremely long wait, but I was sold quickly. There are some new features to the story, which some purists would hate (and that is okay, the original is honestly a perfect game), but there's so much to take in. I played easy the first go through because I wanted to focus on the story first and I was very happy with that decision. Avalanche, the residents of Midgar, the social media, & Shinra are just amazing. Overall, when I first heard about the remake of FF7 announced I was nervous especially when they said that the game would be segmented. The biggest downfall of this game is the fact that we have to wait for the next installment of this franchise. I'm excited for this series to be brought back to life and I hope that Square Enix doesn't mess this up

    Classic

Music is god-tier, combat gameplay is extremely joyous, with the materia system, providing great complexity and depth. But to fully appreciate the game's combat mechanics and materia system, play it on hard mode, as you will have to utilise most aspects of upgrading and materia combinations to beat the game. The story is great, with loveable, quirky characters scattered throughout, with a great narrative twist to the story that completely transcends the game to something that is more than merely a scence-for-scence remake. The graphics are mostly stunning, with great attention to detail, that lovingly recreate characters and places from the original. And the character voice actors have also done a great job in bringing these characters to life. All-in-all, though some parts of the game, can be tedious, at times, final fantasy 7 remake is nothing short of a masterpiece. It's wonderful to play a game, I played so many years back then, that which, now can still feel so impactful, that I cannot wait for the unknown journey to continue.

This game is a remake of the 1997 smash hit FFVII. For all the classical gamers out there you know what I'm talking about. This game is absolutely phenomenal. If you have seen FFVII advent children the film, then imagine PLAYING the film instead of watching it. This game has taken the original and essentially expanded on the original story. So everything is the same with substantial extras. Characters, (to include minor characters) have been given extra storylines and it instantly immerses you in the world. The graphics are simply stunning. Everything is smooth, crisp and clear. I do have a 4k television set but I honestly don't think it would matter to the casual viewer. The game barely transitions from gameplay to cinematic views and it is LIGHT years ahead of what PS1 orginally produced. The fighting system takes a little bit to get used to but that's the fun of the game. Learning how to utilize each character is great. Be creative and develop your style of play. The ONLY downside to this game is that they didn't release the entire game in its entirety. It was originally a 3 disc game in 1997. They are clearly trying to make extra money off of you. And I am completely ok with it. The game is simply that. darn. good. Now I am a bit biased as I have been a fan of this series for decades but I will say that even first time players will enjoy this game so much that upon completion they will be itching for the next installment.

Probably the best final Fantasy game I ever had. I wish that they could remake Core Criss on PS5 and create a new game that follows the CG movie storyline. Game length is about 38-50hours, content is very juicy. XV royal edition and X/X2 remake are tasty as well.

    Never Played A Final Fantasy

As someone who loves RPGs but somehow never played a Final Fantasy title, I was excited to play this new take on a beloved classic. I loved the fast paced and flashy combat (with all characters too!) as well as the deep options for customization. The story was interesting and the characters were fun, but there is a LOT of filler moments. These moments are suppose to break up the combat sections but I feel there are too many to these. A minor complaint though. Do know this is only part 1 of this complete game though!

This is more than a remake. Feels more like a brand new game with characters based on the classic Final Fantasy 7 game. Graphics are amazing, You could tell they really took their time in making this game as they really took advantage of all the PS4's graphical capabilities as the console is nearing the end of it's life cycle. Action sequence and voice acting are superb. Gameplay is really enjoyable. This is my daughter's first FF game and she was obsessed with it. Can't wait for the next chapter.

FF7 remake's visuals are incredible, it is awesome to see these beloved characters again in such a grand way. Cloud, Barret, Tifa, and Aerith all look fantastic. There's a lot of extra character and charm added to the remake because this game takes place only in Midgar spanning 45 hours compared to the original's 6-7 hour Midgar section. There are some unnecessary extras to pad out the game but I think it was a ton of fun regardless. The new plot elements with the ghosts are strange and I don't really like their inclusion. There are some changed story elements near the end that worry me for the direction that this remake will be taking things, but I am still cautiously excited to see where it goes. The combat is incredibly addicting. FF7R manages to make a masterful hybrid between action-based and turn-based combat with the command menu mechanic. It feels very rewarding to learn the combat as you gradually get better at it and eventually master the game's ATB and party member switching systems. The re-imagined bosses are insanely epic. The new music arrangements for FF7's iconic tunes are mind blowing. The gripping Materia system is back alongside summons. A new feature in the remake is weapon upgrading which makes each weapon viable for the whole game depending on the abilities you choose. Highly recommend this game to FF7 veterans and newcomers alike!

    Just Amazing

I'm currently 14 hours into the game and so far, I've been blown away. I played the original on PS1 but it's not my favorite game of all time or anything. Nonetheless, the incredible attention to detail and the beauty of this game's world, environments and music has brought tears to my eyes more than once. This game was obviously made with the utmost love and reverence for the original classic. Combat is exciting in real-time, though it feels a little like bosses don't always play fair. It's easy to run out of healing items and money in the early-game. The story so far is excellent, and all the main characters from the original are well-written, acted, and pleasing to the eye. I've read there are some changes to the original story but that doesn't bother me. This whole project has such an air of confidence that I can't wait to see where the story goes. It's worth noting that this game covers maybe 25-30% of the original's story, and that more "episodes" are coming in the future. There's no guarantee they'll be coming soon, or even to the PS4 at all with PS5 on the horizon. Some certainty would be nice, but rest assured this game is a complete, impressive package in its own right.

First off I never finished the original but am a HUGE fan of turn based combat and Final Fantasy as a whole. I was a bit skeptical how the action battle system would work, but wow... they really improved the battle system! Not only can you pause to make wise choices during battle but you feel like a major part of the action. Highly recommended!

Despite being only 1/3 of the original game, I still enjoy since it brought back memories of playing it when I was a kid. The combat for is surprisingly good which was one of the things I didn't about FF XV. I'd recommend this game to anyone who's a fan of the original or if you have never played it, you won't be disappointed.

A great successor to the original Final Fantasy 7

This re imagining of the original Final Fantasy 7 is amazing as it has great game play derived from Kingdom Hearts/ Final Fantasy 15 and amazing English voice acting. The graphics were also top notch on the PS4 with some graphical limitations. All of this combined makes it have more of a realistic story feel compared to the original game. Its just very unfortunate that it isn't the complete Final Fantasy 7 experience since its only around 1/3 of the entire story. There will be more parts to this game that will be released but it seems that it could take a few years which is disappointing. Another con is that the game graphics has weird texture issues that has to take a moment to load on both PS4 and PS4 Pro which can sometimes ruin the immersion of the game. Whether or not you have played the original Final Fantasy 7 game, this is an amazing game play experience that you wouldn't regret purchasing.

    Epic

The original Final Fantasy VII was a masterpiece that pushed video gaming beyond what many expected, combining a deep and intricate narrative with a cinematic quality, a beautiful yet perilous world corrupted with evil, and some of the most epic boss battles in gaming history. And despite the remake only expanding upon the first few hours of the game, it perfectly adapts the atmosphere and scale of the original and elevates it to new levels. This is perhaps the new standard for what a remake should do - keep many of the best elements of the original and expand on them heavily, while also adapting its best moments into a modern experience. I won't spoil anything for you, but if you're curious, play the remake as soon as you get the chance, because this is the most epic video game in history.
